Weird iTunes problem when a song ends.

Has anyone had this problem recently?
Ever since I installed iTunes 7, I began having two problems, one was the music sounding scratchy and stuff, but that is solved. My other problem might sound a bit confusing. When a song ends, it will say that it is still playing, and it will either say it has 1 second left in the song, or 0 seconds. It's not some huge issue but I can't stand it, because I have to select a different song in order for it to go away. This would only happen every once in a while though.
BUT, I have installed the most recent version of iTunes 7. Ever since I installed that, it became worse. Whenever any song ends, it does this. This is where it's getting to annoy me.
Is there anything I can do?

... frequently - one song will begin playing over another.
That is, the prior song will not have ended, and the
new song will begin to play. This lasts anywhere
from 3-25 seconds. This began when I moved to the
first 7.x upgrade, and has continued since then.
Have tried to unistall 7.x and reinstall the last
6.x version, but have been advised the song list was
created with a newer version and will not allow
songs to play.
Is this discussion thread monitored by anyone from
Apple?
I have this same problem. For me it is very specific and consistently repeatable. Today I bought and downloaded Beethoven's Diabelli Variations. This album is 34 songs (in iTunes terminology). The way Beethoven wrote it, some of the songs are supposed to have no delay between them, and most are supposed to have a short period of silence between them. The ones that are supposed to be played with no delay "step on" each other for 5 seconds. (The last 5 seconds of song A are still playing while the first 5 seconds of song B are playing.) Surely Beethoven groans in his grave whenever he hears this, because I sure do. It sounds terrible.

I keep getting the error 306 cannot connect to the iTunes Network when downloading songs on iTunes. I've tried all the troubleshooting steps from the forums and my technical issues are still unresolved. I have Windows 7. Please help!!

iTunes Store loads partially or returns "Error 306" or "Error 10054"
Proxies, parental control settings and software, security or filtering software, or a bad iTunes Store cache can cause this.
To address proxies, Remove Internet Options proxy settings  ( http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1490 ) and connect to the Internet without a proxy.
    To reset iTunes Store cache:
In iTunes, choose iTunes > Preferences (Mac) or Edit > Preferences (PC).
    Click the Advanced tab.
    Click the "Reset cache" button.
Click OK and see if the issue is resolved.
    Adjust Parental Controls in iTunes:
    Open iTunes.
    Access iTunes preferences:
On a Mac: From the iTunes menu, choose Preferences.
On a Windows PC: From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Parental Controls tab.
    Remove restrictions on Parental Controls.
For more information on parental controls or content filtering software, see iTunes 10.5 for Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store.

  • ITunes crashes when selecting songs for importing from CD - any clues?

I'm running XP Pro on a Dell Latitude 620 with the latest version of iTunes.
When I put a CD in, iTunes shows me the tracks. But as I am selecting tracks to play (double-clicking on them), randomly iTunes crashes. Not immediatly repeatable, but it always happens within 5 minutes or so of selecting songs.
    Any clues out there?

I had removed a couple of those artists and later replaced them with  backups from a separate hard drive and it didn't help. I was going to ditch and replace all of them today to see if that made a difference. However, before I did, I thought I'd check a couple of things as far as renaming the artists was concerned. So I added a number to one problem artist's name, then tried opening it in the 'Artist' list. It worked fine.  I went back, removed the number, and tried opening it again. Worked fine again. So I checked the other problem artists, without altering the names. They all open just fine. Problem solved! Well, not solved but mysteriously gone away, at least for now.
I think you're right about a faulty link being the problem, and I suppose something I did reestablished that link. Don't know what it was though, so I'm afraid I can't offer a solution to anyone else with a similar problem.

  • Bizarre problem when skipping songs

    Hi everyone,
first of all I apologize for my probably poor Engilsh, I'm Italian.
    I own an old I-Pod classic 30Gb (firmware 1.2.1).
It has always worked fine until some days ago.
It started behaving in the way I'm going to describe.
I always listen to my 15Gb of music in shuffle mode, often at the start or in the middle of a song I decide to skip to the next one, because I'm not in the mood to listen it or whatever.
In these few years, when the song I skipped before shows up again in the shuffle mode, it has always started back from the beginning.
Now, instead, the skipped songs always start from the point in which I decide to skip them.
I know, I'm not very clear. I'll try to be clearer with an example.
    - I listen to "Song number 1"
    - at 0:48 I decide to skip "Song number 1"
    - I shut off the I-Pod
    - I reset and restart the shuffle mode
    - "Song number 1" appears when it's its time and start from second 0:48 instead than from the beginning 0:00
The thing that amazes me is that it started doing that no more than a month ago.
Can you please help me shed some light on this issue? It is very annoing to have all these songs starting from a point in the middle or towards the end.
Thanks in advance for your time and attention.
    Best regards

    Hello Marqo,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I am not entirely sure on this one, but I have a feeling, the "remember playback position" option may be ticked for your music files within iTunes. To change this, locate each file, right->click (control->click on a Mac) on it and choose "Get Info" from the Shortcut Menu. When the window pops up, head over to the Options tab. Make sure there is NO check mark next "Remember playback position." Then hit OK when you are finished. Then sync the updated changes to your iPod.
Again, I don't know if this is really the issue, or I am forgetting some other option that may be causing this, but at least it's a good place to start.
    Hope it helps.

  • Duplication Problem when importing songs

When ever I try and import songs via the "import folder" option it seems that the songs always have doubles which I have to go through and delete manually. I also want to point out that I consolidate my library to copy all imported songs to another location. But is there anyway I can fix this problem?

the thing is, I have an external hard drive which I use for all of my songs/videos/pictures and stuff like that. So I have itunes automatically copy all songs to a specific folder on my external, that way after it imports I have everything organized in that specific folder. It doesnt always duplicate songs like that...but when I import 200 songs at a time and it copies half of them, thats still 100 songs I have to go back and manually delete.

  • Strange problem when transfering songs

    Hi Everyone,
I have a very strange problem when i transfer songs to my iphone.
When i transfering songs maually (dragging them from ITunes music library to my iphone) i can see that they are in my iphone (at "On This iPhone"),
but when im looking in my iphone (in the music library) im seeing only 70-80% of the songs.
And the strange thing is that i can see them if im searching them!
    Please help.
    Thank you!

I'll have to rephrase my question. Close this one.

  • I can't be the only person who has this problem - when a month ends on a Saturday I can't drag events into the next month and instead have to cut and paste - a real pain in the butt. I thought there was something called "scroll" but I can't find that

I can't be the only person who has this problem with iCal- when a month ends on a Saturday I can't drag events into the next month and instead have to cut and paste - a real pain in the butt. I thought there was something called "scroll" but I can't find that.

Yeah that works, but, it involves a click on the event, a click on edit, a click on the date, keystrokes, plus, since you can't see the next month you have to have a calendar in front of you so as to put it to the right date. It's easier just to cut it and advance the month and paste it, once you are in the right month you can move it around helter skelter willy nilly no problems. Although now that you mention it I will try it, maybe it is easier than cut and paste as I don't really care about the date, as long as it gets moved into the right month I can drag it around all I want.

  • I've imported several CDs that are "collections", with songs by various artists.  Only a PORTION of the song info appears in iTunes, and, when a song is "clicked-on" to play it, a message appears that the "song could not be found".  Any ideas ?

The CDs are imported into the "iTunes Media" folder, under "Compilations".   Each CD has a folder, with the name of the CD.  However, EACH SONG in the folder is assigned a sequential number as a prefix before the song's name.  For example "2-1 Sunshine of Your Love."  This prefix, I believe, prevents the song from being imported into the iTunes library.  The song's name appears in the iTunes library (with the number prefix), BUT no other song info (artist, CD name, time, etc.) shows in the iTunes library.   I am NOT designating these CD's as "complilations", but somehow, iTunes is arbitrarily assigning them to this "Compilations" folder, and then assigning sequential numbers to each song.    I am confused.  (My only remedy is to MANUALLY remove the prefix number from each song in the CD folder, within the COMPILATIONS folder, then "re-import" it into iTunes.  Cumbersome.)    Thanks in advance for any opinion, tips or guidance.

The numeric prefixes in filenames are probably the optional disc number, followed by the track number. iTunes will pick up the Compilation flag from the Gracenote CDDB database if you ripped the tracks with iTunes, or the flag may have been set earlier if these are existing tracks you have imported into a new library.  The iTunes naming convention is <Artist>\<Album>\[<D#>-]<T##> <Name>.<Ext> where Album Artist is used instead of Artist if not blank, and Compliations is used instead of Artist when Part of a compilation is true. Empty Artist or Album values are replaced with Unknown Artist or Unknown Album respectively. With Windows, file and folder names are limited to 40 characters. If more than one file is added with the same details subsequent tracks get suffixes to separate them.
If iTunes can't find a file that usually means that it has been moved after it was added to the library. Select a single broken track and press CTRL+I to Get Info. Look on the summary tab at the location that iTunes expects to find the file. Where is it really? Post back both paths and I might be able to figure out what has happened, and suggest a fix.

  • ITunes Problem when importing Audio CDs

Since I updated my macbook pro a fortnight ago, I have been having trouble importing audio cds into iTunes.
When I insert an audio cd into my superdrive, iTunes opens as normal. I receive a pop-up message that asks if I want to import the contents of the audio cd. I click "Yes" and the audio cd icon immediately disappears from the iTunes devices list.
I then have to eject the audio cd, re-insert into the superdrive, and I receive the same message in iTunes again. I am able to successfully import the cd the next time.
When initially importing the cd, if I select "No" when asked if I want to import the cd, I can then select all of the tracks in the Audio cd device list and then I can select "create mp3 version".
I tried the same procedure on my wife's macbook pro, and iTunes simply freezes and won't proceed. We both updated our macbook pros about the same time.
If anyone can please offer any insight into this problem, please let me know. I would be most grateful for anyone's help with this issue.
    Respectfully,
    PugetSounder

No insight I'm afraid, but I have exactly the same problem as the first one you describe. I don't think it happens every time, but most times the first insertion of the CD is as you describe - iTunes asks if I want to import, I click "Yes", and the CD disappears from the left hand column in the iTunes display. When I eject and re-insert, it always works. This must be a bug in iTunes. Can anyone explain it? This is on a MacBook using the latest software - but I don't think there has been an update in the last month (maybe I just forgot).

  • Playlist stops when current song ends

Hey, this is probably a dumb question, but something happened to my iT for W and all of my playlists/library/everything stops after the current song ends, and I have to manually click on the next one to get it to play. Any help for this, please? It's getting to be really annoying.

Never Mind-kill the topic. I figured it out.

  • Itunes Problem with loading songs

I'm trying to load songs into my itunes. I select "File" then "Add File to Library". I have to do it 4 songs at a time. If I select more then 4 songs the stupid program just goes back to the main screen and loads nothing. I've updated my itunes to the latest version. No change.
Is this a "Feature" of the software or just a bug?

You can go to File -> Add Folder to Library, and then highlight a folder, and iTunes will import all songs that are in that folder, or subfolders of that folder, that it can recognize the format of.

  • How can I get song titles to appear in iTunes library when transferring songs from iPod to iTunes ?

My old computer crashed.  Trying to recover music from iPod.  Can transfer music, but not song titles.  Titles appear in 4letter mpg formats.  What am I doing wrong?

Provided the files were properly tagged then iTunes should pick up the data when the files are imported into the library. The main problem is usually any files in .wav format.
See also Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You seem to be most of the way there already but there are a couple of scripts mentioned near the end which you could use to recover ratings & playlists.

  • Same Ipod recognized twice by iTunes, crashes when deleting songs off iPod.

I know that others have had this issue but there was never an answer and it was awhile back so I figured I'd post a new message. Everytime I sync my iPod it is recognized twice by iTunes. What I mean by this is that it looks as if I am syncing two iPods with the same name at the same time, although upon examination there contents appear different (when looking at the color bar that shows how much of the iPod is video, music, other, etc...) In addition, if I attempt to delete a song or songs off of the iPod, Itunes crashes but with no error message, just straight to the desktop, no questions asked. I know this is not a problem with drive letters as I have already checked that out and Windows is only recognizing the iPod once as the Q drive and no other drive shares that letter. Can someone please help? (or will my question end up in the iTunes message board graveyard of unanswered problems like so many others?)

so yeah i just tried that... didnt work. I changed the drive letter from G: to I: and no dice. This is all after i used msconfig to disable all third party services that automatically load at windows start up. Yet once again, those weren't the problem. So i completely uninstalled itunes, redownloaded, and then reinstalled the newest version with the third party services still disabled. Once again, itunes crashes : /
my friend is coming over in a bit and im going to see if i can successfully connect to her itunes. Only other options right now i feel i have is to pay apples sorry *** $30 to help me solve this over the phone.. or i can restore my ipod, then try again : ( any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated : )

  • Weird error message when loading songs to Shuffle

    Hello,
I'm getting a little bit p.o.'d with the Shuffle I bought for my husband for Christmas.
Here is what's happening and what all I've done since last night...
Happening: I get the Shuffle to show up in the iTunes source list and can load it with 5 songs and then each time I try and drag another song onto it, I get the following error message:
"The iPod "MyPod" cannot be updated. The required disc cannot be found."
When I select the Shuffle from the source list, the songs I tried to load and received this message with show up with a grey circle/dot next to the number that the particular song would be in the Shuffle's list.
At first I thought maybe it was happening because a long time ago I had another computer and burned a disc of all the songs I purchased from the iTunes Music Store and then dragged into iTunes library on my new computer. So then I bought a new song last night and the same thing happened, same error message.
Here's what I've done so far:
I have removed/reinstalled iTunes 6 and the iPod updater. A couple times last night when trying to restore the Shuffle to factory settings, it didn't show up in the updater. I've trashed the plist files, repaired permissions, removed the iPodDriver.kext file, as told to do so in an Apple article.
I'm getting a wee bit frustrated and am hoping to get some help from all of your people here on the discussions!
I also noticed that none of these problems happen with my iPod Mini, just the Shuffle. Since I just got it yesterday, I will phone Apple support this morning when they open and will post back anything I learn, but I'm hoping someone here can help me (us) out before having to deal with Apple---I'm about to pull out my hair here and that's just not a good look for the Holidays, you know?!
    Happy Holidays everyone!
    Mary

    Hi srb,
Actually my iPod Mini is called Mary's iPod and the Shuffle is called MyPod. They both show up in iTunes now and I found a "workaround" to get the songs on the shuffle, making a playlist and having the shuffle autoload from that list.
Thanks for the feedback and happy holidays!

  • Unusual iTunes problem when restoring iOS firmware(s).

As the topic says, I am having a very strange issue with iTunes and restoring iOS to not only my iPad, but also to my iPod Touch 2nd Gen. So far the only way I have been able to remedy the problem seems to be manually removing iTunes and all API's and/or Frameworks via Terminal; and then re-installing iTunes. For the last several months I have been using iTunes 10.1.1/2 and when I've had to restore my iPad, I have ran into the following problem:
I put my device info DFU Mode to update and here is what happens, it extracts the software as usual and proceeds to restore. It gets nearly to the end of the restore, approximately 97-98% in iTunes, just before the Verifying Restore phase. And it simply hangs there, I have let the device sit for 10+ minutes and does not move. As I said, the only way I can fix it is to completely remove iTunes and re-install. And here is where things get even stranger yet.
A day after I had previously restored, I had to restore again because the iPad AppStore would not open properly on my iPad, and also on the previous day I had uninstalled/re-installed iTunes. And the hanging problem once again occurred, I am not sure why, _*but it seems like every time I restart*_ my MacBook Pro something in iTunes becomes corrupted for some reason and the only way to resolve the issue is a(n) uninstall/reinstall of iTunes.
If anyone has anything to add to help with, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

From iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, and 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Use the steps to troubleshoot security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
