Weird MAC Crash; anyone who can decipher the log for me?

My Macbook Pro (mid 2009) with a recently clean installed Mountain Lion experienced a weird crash. I have never had one like this: suddenly the screen turns white and informs that the computer has been restarted due to a problem. As I restart, the log below pops up.
I had several software running behind: Safari 6.0.2, VLC media player, Microsoft Mac Outlook, Soulseek Mac, and Text Edit.
I have no idea how to decipher this or where to identify the problem. Is it a virus? (I have firewall ON) Or worse: is my hard disk dying?
Any help in troubleshooting this appreciated!!
Many thanks!!

That panic was not caused by third-party software. If it's happened only once, and is not repeated in at least a few thousand hours of use, a reasonable choice would be to ignore it. Machines don't work perfectly. They never will.
If the problem is recurrent, the possibilities are (1) a damaged OS X installation; (2) a fault in a peripheral device, if any; (3) an internal hardware fault; and (4) an obscure bug in OS X.
You can rule out the first two possibilities by reinstalling the OS and testing with non-essential peripherals disconnected and aftermarket expansion cards removed, if applicable. Sometimes a clean reinstallation (after erasing the startup volume) may solve a problem that isn't solved by reinstalling in place, without erasing.
If you've recently upgraded the memory, reinstall the original memory and see whether there's any improvement. Be careful not to touch the gold contacts on the memory modules when handling them. If necessary, clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol.
The Apple Hardware Test, though generally unreliable, will sometimes detect a fault. A negative test can't be depended on. Run the extended version of the test.
In the category of obscure bugs, reports suggest that FileVault may trigger kernel traps under some unknown conditions. Most, though not all, of these reports seem to involve booting from an aftermarket SSD. If those conditions apply to you, try deactivating FileVault.
Otherwise, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. You may have to leave it there for several days. There isn't much point in doing this unless you can reproduce the panic, or if you can't, it happens often enough that it's likely to be repeated at the store. Otherwise you may be told that nothing is wrong.
Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you know how to restore, and you have at least  two independent backups.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

I want to hand on my water damaged and not working iPhone are the notes that were on the handset accessible to anyone who can get the handset working again?

It's possible, I suppose.   Unlikely, but possible.   Someone would have to be extremely driven to fix your broken phone specifically to look at your notes though.

  • I need some people who can test the following for me - Wake on Ethernet Acc

    Hey there,
i am sorry for crossposting but i need someone who can confirm something like a bug in 10.6.2 SL.
    What you need:
Two Macs running 10.6.2 SL which are in the same Network.
The following settings need to be activated on both Macs:
    1. System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> *Wake on Ethernet Access*
    2. System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Computer Sleep set to never
    3. System Preferences -> Sharing -> Screensharing and File Sharing
What you need to do is simple. Start both Macs so that they see each other in their finder.
Now connect with one Mac to the other and wait a bit until you can see the folders of the distant Mac. As soon as those folders show up, click on the "Screensharing" Button on the upper right side of the finder. Enter your PW (if set up) and wait until you can control the other Mac. Now simply go to Apple -> Sleep on the Computer you just connected to via this screensharing session (by using this screensharing session and not the keyboard or mouse of this distant Mac). After this Mac went to sleep close the screensharing session.
Now you need to wait for 2 hours. You are not allowed to start or use the Mac you just set to sleep.(The other one which you used for connecting to the other Mac may be used just as normal).
Now here is the point where all of this gets "interesting". Because you enabled "Wake on Ethernet Access" the Mac you just set to sleep will wake up in about 2 hours to perform a sleep proxy announcement. Usually this Mac will wake up for 15 seconds without turning on the screen. After 15 seconds it should go back to sleep.
What i found out: As soon as you set your Mac to sleep by using a VNC Tool like this Screensharing App (i.e. because you are not in the same room/city/country as the other mac and you cannot put it to sleep manually with the attached keyboard) the Mac will wake up but will NOT go to sleep again. This makes the whole Back to my Mac and Wake on Demand feature useless as it was designed to safe power and not to start a Mac (that was set to sleep by Screensharing) after 2 hours without automatically put it back to sleep.
I need some proof that i am not the only one with this problem so i would really appreciate your help in this.. it will cost you 2 hours where you cannot use your second mac but it might be really useful to me if you have the same issues.
What i already did while troubleshooting:
-Reinstall the Firmware of my Cable Modem and Router
    - Restart every of my 3 Macs which behave like this
    - Reset PMU, SMC, NVRAM, PRAM and everything that is possible on every Mac
    - Reinstall the OS (only thing i installed were the updates to 10.6.2) on every Mac. Same issue on a clean fresh install.
Thank you and happy new year from germany everybody
    greetings
    André

*Important notice for Macbook/Macbook Pro/Macbook Air Users:*
The "Wake on Ethernet Access" Option is only working when the Mac you just set to sleep via Screensharing is *connected to your power supply* *and its lid is NOT closed.* Please consider this in your testing.
    Thank you!

  • I need someone local who can write the software for a new application.

    Hello:
I need someone to write the program for a new application.
This person should be local to the Pittsburgh area.
I'm not really sure if this is the right forum for this as I am not computer literate.
Any help is appreciated and I live in SW Pennsylvania.

This isn't really the right place.  But you can try elance.com or others like it.
    Good luck.

  • Where to find the logs for cronacle queues

hi i m using redwood explorer 7.0.3 . Someboday had hold the cronacle queues . it was giving the message queues held by operator . But we don't know who held the queues. Can anbody tell where we can find the logs for these queues i.e who made changes w.r.to Cronacle queues.
    Regards,

    Hi,
Yes this can depend on your system configuration
To view the current settings of all parameters, you can:
Use the Redwood Explorer and navigate to Configuration > Environment > Schedulers > SCHEDULERNAME > Parameters..
Use the SHOW PARAMETERS or SHOW ALL command in the Redwood Shell.
Look in the Master agent trace file.
also check the operator messages in cronacle.

    A 15" mid-2009 MBP RAM specifications are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.
As has been pointed out, OWC is an excellent source for Mac compatible RAM.  Crucial is another first rate source for Mac RAM.  RAM from either vendor will work just as well as any purchased from Apple with the bonus of being less expensive and having a lifetime guarantee.
    Ciao.

If Photoshop crashes the should be a System crash report generated by your OS. For example Windows

  • Made a form in which colleagues can add revisions(+1 row) and amendments (1a,b,c). Once filled in, and opened again the amendments disappear. Anyone who can help?

    Hi everyone,
See picture below. Part of a large form I made for work. Got a little problem though. Adding a new row with the button 'add a new revision' is working perfect (also when saved and reopened). But when I add amendments with the + button on the right (a,b,c), these disappear when I save and reopen the file. Anyone who can help?
    Thanks!

Ok, I've checked your form and there are some problem in your design.
You should use better namings for your objects!
It makes no sense to name to tables with repeatable instances the same.
This can cause problems with repeated objects and also requires the usage of the slow resolveNode() method.
I've changed a few object names and so I where able to shorten many of your current scripts.

I have some comments and a suggestion:
Have you tried your setup with a SD/CF combo card reader (like the Lexar or Kingston FCR-H63)? Does the card appear on the desktop when first plugged in?
Did you need to fool around with any kind of power issues in installing this card in the x4 PCIe slot of the MacPro?
Suggestion. Have you tried one of the fixed in this article to cure the BT issues in MacPro 3,1?
    Good luck.

I'll assume that you are referring to purchasing a book in iTunes. If that is the case, you can transfer the purchase with the phone, or you can sync the phone and iTunes.

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in  mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan.

downloaded acrobat reader 11 onto my Mac Book Pro, it can open the file but will not print. Get a message that says PDF cannot be printed, however, I forwarded it to someone else and they could print it, no problem. I called HP and spent an 1hour with them and then called Apple support and worked with them for 3 hours. No one can figure it out. Is there something wrong with this version? the pdf was created in 2004. Do I have to pay to get Acrobat?

Let me give you a slightly different perspective than everyone else here.  You are using an unsecured wireless network, which means that all your network traffic is easily available for viewing by anyone else using that network.  That's bad.  Very bad, for you, unless you absolutely trust everyone who lives within range of this network.  So stop doing it.
As to the Mac not connecting, wireless networking is simply too complex for any reasonable answer without more information.  There are many possible error points, and as often as not it's the Mac that can connect and the Windows PC that cannot.  Since you can't give us any information about the configuration of the neighbor's network, and can't make any changes to it, we can't do much to help you troubleshoot it.

  • Zombie email message won't die! $1 bounty to anyone who can solve this.

I have a message that absolutely will not die. I've tried everything I can think of to delete it, but it keeps coming back. I've tried moving it from one mailbox to another, killing it with the delete key, killing it by cutting it (Command-X), but it lingers on. At this point, it only shows up in the index with a subject and date, but the content of the message is gone. I've tried rebuilding the mailboxes a number of times, but it always reappears. I've tried logging into my various accounts through the web interface, but it doesn't exist on the servers anywhere, it's only local as far as I can see.
In my last attempt to get rid of it, I scanned my ENTIRE HARD DRIVE for the string of text containing the subject line using grep, and narrowed it down to a few files in the ~/Library/Mail folder, which I deleted through the Terminal using rm. I then re-opened Mail and rebuilt the mailboxes, and the email STILL appears. It will no longer let me move the message to another mailbox, however, but I can't get the damned thing to disappear.
I will PayPal $1 to anyone who can come up with a solution that doesn't involve recreating my Mail accounts. May the game begin!

    Hello,
Are you using an IMAP or POP account?
Anything you do in the Terminal, Finder or some third party Mail app enhancers will very often mess up the index, which appears to be a symptom of.
I think you should force a reindexing by deleting the Envelope Index. With IMAP or Exchange account, forcing reindexing requires removing the account folder. See:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/4.0/en/14019.html
Ask any questions needed to get comfortable with doing this.
