Weird message while repairing permissions

Hi,
I was repairing the permissions on my MacBook Pro and during the repair I got the following message:
ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root/Library/Preferences".
2007-10-29 17:36:07 -0400: ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root/Library".
2007-10-29 17:36:07 -0400: ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root".
Does anyone have any idea what this means? I have no idea. Thanks

There are numerous but innocuous messages reported by Disk Utility when repairing permissions. See the following: Mac OS X 10.5- Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore.
These messages will occur each time you repair permissions, and they may be safely ignored.

  • Obscure error message while repairing permissions

OSX 10.6.3. While repairing permissions, I spotted this strange message: Warning. SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices..." has been modified and will not be repaired."
Seems a little strange. I've done nothing exotic that would modify the system in such a way.
Anyone have an idea what's gone wrong?

  • Weird Message from Repairing Permissions

Had a new iMac for about a month.
For a lark I did a repair permsissions - mainly as a speed test.
I got a message that "CoreServices...as been changed. Unable to repair"
    (Yes, "has" was mispelled)
Hovering over the line showed that the file in question was in Apple's Remote Desktop .App
I wouldn't necessarily care, but this screams security issue.
    I have installed:
    Rosetta
I partitioned with Boot Camp, but I have not used it yet.
The only non-Apple Apps are a driver for a USB sound interface
    Adobe PhotoShop Elements
The older version (PPC)of Microsoft Office (2005?)
    Quicken and Turbo Tax
    Is this a common error?

  • Odd Messages While Repairing Permissions

Had that annoying spinning beach ball today, so I used software update and then repaired permissions after. Never had a message like this before in all my mac years:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/lppaswd" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    No other permissions were repaired.
Um . . . HUH? I have two firewalls on this thing and have to approve even outgoing print jobs manually. I'd be surprised if I had anyone get n here, but anything is possible. I sync to mobileme and my iphone and ipod video. Have a wireless keyboard and mouse, but no other bluetooth devices. My wireless network is hidden and secured with a password. . .
I'm the only user, the computer is only a few weeks old.
Should I be worried? Should I be deleting something? Would love some thoughts and opinions!
    Thanks in advance!
    Sharon

A commonly known situation. See Mac OS X 10.5- Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions reports issues with SUID files.
No, you need not be worried.

    Permissions repair complete

It sounds like you used the 10.5.1 update using Software Update.
Download the larger 110MB file of 10.5.1 directly from Apple and this will most likely take care of all but one SUID warning.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1051update.html
The remaining warning is normal and will cause no problems.

  • Message after repairing permissions on MB wit Leopard

Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
This message came after I repaired permissions on MB with Leopard - any idea what it means and is it important or not - something to do with Remote Management which was selected at start up - can tis be deleted or removed and what is remote management anyway - I was not aware of it being in the Tiger OS version beofre I upgraded.
    Thanks
    RC

It's normal. Other people are getting it too. Just disregard it for now.

  • Weird Msg after repairing permissions

    hello
    I am on Lion OS,
I repaired permissions and got the following message
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
What is it.? and do I fix it?

You can safely ignore this message. It is accurate, but not a cause for any concern.

  • Warning message when repairing permissions

I Just repaired permissions and the usual large list showed up. But this time I got a message that says:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreService...ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I navigated to that site and could not find a SUID file. Does anyone know what that stands for and could this be a problem?
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Rich

    Thanks Macjack,
I seemed to get that response after updating to 10.6.7 and my confusion is that when I go to Core Service Folder in the Library, I don't even see any SUID File at all? And this is the first time I have ever received a warning that a file has been modified and not repaired. Have you seen a warning like this before?

  • Little Glitch while repairing permissions.

I have been experiencing a little glitch when repairing permissions, and it has been a while now.
The problem appears with all utilities, from Disk Utility to Applejack and so on.
The type of error is the following:
: for architecture i386 object: ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes malformed object (unknown flavor for flavor number 0 in LC_UNIXTHREAD command 27 can't byte swap it)
: for architecture i386 object: ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/Resources/iTunesHelper.app/Contents/MacOS/iT unesHelper malformed object (unknown flavor for flavor number 0 in LC_UNIXTHREAD command 13 can't byte swap it)
After this, the repair keeps going and glides till the end.
Maybe it is not very important, but it is definitely annoying to know that something in your system is not 100% right....
    thanks

    Andrew:
The Blue and White G3 will support the latest release OS X. I suspect you mistook it for a Beige G3, like I did at first, which does not natively support OS X, and will need XPostFacto.
    Good luck.

  • Message in Repairing Permissions

Leopard 10.5.2, running Repair Permissions in Disk Utility. Got a message saying: "found ACL in library not expected" or something pretty close to that. Does anyone know what this might mean? I can't find anything in my Library that might give me a clue.
    Thanks for any insight.

    It's benign; ignore it.

  • Error message when Repair permissions

"System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAge nt" has been modified and will not be repaired."
This is the message I get when running Repair Permissions. What is it and how do I fix it. I thought the issues was with Office 2004 and removed that but it remains.

That error is a result of the Remote Desktop software update.
There are numerous threads in here about this already.

That means that a recent version of Apple Remote Desktop is installed. Ignore it and any of these other messages.

  • Error while repairing permissions

    Hi,
I am getting an error when trying to repair permissions on my Powerbook harddrive. When trying it with Disk Utility, after a while I am getting the following:
"Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility"
When running "sudo diskutil repairPermissions /" in the Terminal, I am getting the following error (after a while):
"* malloc[411]: Deallocation of a pointer not malloced: 0x50a680; This could be a double free(), or free() called with the middle of an allocated block; Try setting environment variable MallocHelp to see tools to help debug
: for architecture i386 object: ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes malformed object (unknown flavor for flavor number 0 in LC_UNIXTHREAD command 27 can't byte swap it)"
Any idea what is happening and how to fix it? I am planning to upgrade to Tiger soon. Might this be something that would be fixed by the upgrade (I am NOT planning to do a clean install), or should I fix it before upgrading?
    Thanks for any help!
    Ingo Weiss

    Ingo,
There's a workaround offered at the top of this forum page. Another solution offered on the web is to remove the i386 binaries from the Universal (FAT) binary distribution of iTunes. You can use lipo to do this or search the web- someone created a GUI frontend for lipo. For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the application. The problem persists for some in Tiger.
I haven't upgraded iTunes to 6.0.2. I'm running 6.0.1 and receive this error when I verify permissions.
: object: ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes malformed object (inconsistant sizeofcmds field in mach header)
Disk Utility doesn't stop but the error is thrown. We all may be waiting for an Apple fix.

  • Weird message while updating iPod

I got this message while updating my iPod. Then a playlist titled "On-The-Go1" appeared with two copies of the one of my songs. Which appeared on my iPod. Then when I disconnected my iPod the music section disappeared off my iPod and I had to go into settings >main menu > then turn the music section back on. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening again?
