Weird mouse click behaviour
Hi,
I don't really know how to explain this. Somethimes, in some situations, my mouse clicks registers twice. Like sometimes I can't minimize an applicatireaon by clicking on the taskbar entry, because the click registers twice and the application minimizes but right after that restores too. It happens with both right and left mouse buttons. Sometimes can't bring up the rigth click menu in thunar, because it appears and right after that disappears, but if I rigth click elsewhere,in an another application, it works. So it happens only with certain elements of the gui, it isn't that everywhere I click, it counts twice, only with a specific menu, or with the taskbar, or with an icon on my desktop - but can drive me crazy.
With equinox gtk engine it happens more often than with clearlooks engine
I observed this behavior with Linux Mint Debian Edition and with openSUSE with certain themes, and now with Arch. I don't think it is a hardware error, because it appears only with some elements of the desktop, not everywhere everytime, I don't think my mouse knows that I want to minimize firefox and decides to mailfunction just to drive me crazy
Does anybody else observed this? Has anybody an idea how can I fix it?
I use Xfce, but when I tried LMDE, I used Gnome, my apps are up to date, the mouse is a A4tech G6.
I have the same behavior along with an additional clause that sometimes mouse clicks will not register at all.
I am using i3...so I do not think its DE/WM specific. Been looking at xev...but it doesn't show up anything.

Z8000 mouse click behaviour is not consistent
The mouse is very elegant and practical for the type of business , I just have this weired behaviour on my Tecra Z50-A Windows 8.1 , the problem is , the mouse Left click is switching to right-click after few clicks, if I take my hand off the mouse and try again, the Left click comes back to normal and so on, after few clicks the click switches to Right-click until i take my fingers out of the mouse and put them back!
The HP product solution finder didnt detect my mouse, I believe due to not supported product (then why it is in the product support page????)
Any help or guidance here is much appreciated!

Hi,
I have a requirement where I am displaying list of LinkToURL elements pointing to some URLs.
Now I want mouse left click to trigger action of "Save Target As" action. (Normally, this is present in "Right Click --> Save Target As")

Strange mouse click behaviour, (GTK?) buttons don't work
Hey,
I have had this problem since the last major upgrade, which included Kernel, Xfce, Xorg. Sadly I can't pinpoint this problem, that's why I wanted to ask if anybody else has the same problem and they have figured out what the cause is.
Essentially this mostly happens with the Xfce panel, while clicking on a Laucher button. I click on a button, which works, then release mouse1, but then the button seems to be still pressed, as if mouse1 was not released. When the mouse leaves the area, the button "pops up" again, but when hovering over the button again, it looks like pressed again, even though it's not.
That's not all that bad, but what happened recently, is while using Eclipse some (very random) buttons simply won't work at all. All this while they seem pressed, even though mouse1 has been released. I then have to use the keyboard to activate the button.
I don't mind the Xfce problem so much, but I need Eclipse for work, and it just can't be the solution that I have to use the Keyboard when a button doesn't seem to work. The problem seems to be limited to button-like (including Tabs) GTK GUI elements. No problem with Qt yet.
This is a laptop computer, with a normal touchpad and a USB mouse attached to it.
And my mouse is NOT broken, as I have tested with a number of different mice and even other OSes on the same machine with same hardware configuration!

m.This may be related to the issue where buttons in Flash embeds don't work. You can probably 'fix' the issue by downgrading gtk2 to 2.16.5.

Okay, not sure where to post this but this seems to make the most sense.
I have this recurring problem and cannot figure out what is causing it. It makes my mouse instantly double click with just one click. It has done so in the past and then gone away. I can't figure out what caused it to stop, as I've restarted my system a few times and this has not seemed to correct it so I don't think it's that simple. I've gone in and tweaked the mouse settings in the Sys Prefs as well as in the Logitech Control Center. It's completely maddening in that almost everything I click gets double clicked; windows minimize all the time, emails get deleted or marked as just because I go to do one and it double clicks and deleted or junk marks the next in the list. You get the point. I can't figure it out and wonder if anyone else has experienced this or knows what I might try in an attempt to correct this.Having the same issue and am pretty shocked that there isn't more coverage in here. This forum http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=791775&page=3 has a full breakdown of testing etc so it's most likely an SL problem... sheesh.

Since this morning OSX won't register the position of my mouse pointer. All the hover triggered events (link highlights, Expose Hot Corners) won't work. OnClick events do work correctly, but it is kind of annoying not being able to use hot corners.
Any ideas on how to fix this?Something is up with the 10.5.6 update. Bluetooth mice pointer is erratic, but buttons all work fine. Mouse is fine (Great: ROCKETFISH) on all other Macs. Mail.app, SyncServer and other non desrcript and arcane named processes are sucking the goodness out my MacBook 2.16 Mid 2007. Fans are going much more than it ever did...battery is being drained by processes I never evoke. Crashes from BAD_ACCESS plagued me on 10.4.11 so I took the plunge....bought Leopard....and spent days trouble shooting all the messes it casued...had to search for Mail.app update....never showed up in the software updater process....that is not acceptable....I have bought new hard drives, thinking it was a faulty drive...not enough free space.....nope. Spotlight was eratic at one point. I run Disk Utility and ONyx regularly and often the permissions are wrong on a big scale....run it again and the same ones are wrong again....run it off the Installer Disk....Get everything apparently tickety boo....then the Bad Access thing reals its ugly head again....I am tired of being a beta tester...this is not my bling thing toy...it is my living and I spend more time doing trouble shooting than work....Genius guys are a misnomer....Apple is starting to drop from the top of the tree and is looking rather fetid mixed with the compositing leaves....enough CRAPPLE give me the good Mac stuff once again....System/Finder 3.7 wasn't this bad. Who needs a million bells and whistles if you can't the 'trailer hitch' to work? Tech tool shows all is well.

Mouse clicks occasionally stop working
I am currently deploying a Java Swing application, and sometimes the end-user encounters an unusual problem whereby they open the application and mouse clicks have no effect. The mouse movement is still tracked fine, as buttons and menus get highlighted as expected when the mouse passes over them. I searched for information about this problem, and learned that a work-around is to click the middle mouse button. This does indeed restore the mouse click behaviour and all continues to work fine after that.
So then I thought I might simulate a middle-button mouse click during my application start-up, in the hope of remedying the problem before any end-user actually sees it. The result is that instead of remedying the problem, I actually cause it to happen every time! The application gets into a state whereby mouse clicks are ignored, and clicking the middle-mouse button restores the mouse click behaviour.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and know of a way to prevent end-users from experiencing this problem? Here's some example code that demonstrates the behaviour:

HELP - mouse click no longer working - Tiger bug?

I had a weird issue with Tiger (10.4.10) on my PowerBook G4 this evening. I was dragging a file to the trash, and "dropped" it onto the dock by mistake, just missing the trash. I was slightly to the left of the trashcan. I expected the icon to jump back to the desktop, as the place I had dropped it was invalid, but to my surprise, as I moved the pointer across the screen with the mouse button unclicked, a ghost version of the icon was still attached to the mouse pointer.
I was unable to click on anything, as the OS still believed for some reason that I was dragging this icon around. I used the keyboard to reboot the laptop, and when it came back up, the mouse click was not working - I can drag around, but can't click on anything. This is with the on board trackpad. I also have a bluetooth apple mouse, which exhibits exactly the same behaviour.
I've rebooted several times (and shutdown and removed the battery), zapped the PRAM. Nothing has helped. I've tried logging in as a different user, but the click still doesn't work with the on-board or external mouse. It's like something within the OS has been corrupted, but I don't know what I can do. I have loads of data on the laptop, so I am not rebuilding. There is something on the help pages about resetting my PowerBook PMU, but I don't think this should be required.
This is a major, urgent issue for me, as I can't use the laptop until I figure out how to resolve this.

RobinThanks for the feedback. Since resetting the PMU fixed the problem, it's not a bug but some conflict in the original setup.
If you want to report this to Apple, either send Feedback or send bug reports and enhancement requests to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering. -

I have a JTable. I added a mouse listener to it! The problem is that I cannot count the mouse clicks correctly!
I have:

e.getClickCount()
but I only get 1 click, despite the double click I made!
Does the table mouse listener erases the preceding event and never gets to count the second click? I got the behaviour of two single clicks!

Rui Vale... the the milli between the events... if they are say 40 milli or less the action is a double click...if not restart the chronometer...You can use other listener to...it depends on what you want to do!

About a month ago Firefox would stop responding to the clicks of my mouse after a click or two. Minimizing the page and reopening, or clicking off to another window and back, sometimes gives me another click or two but it always freezes again. I'm on an iMac G5 PPC (from around 2005) desktop running OS 10.4.11. I have a Logitech mouse and loaded a newer driver, and upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12 but the problem persists. I also tried running in Safe Mode but this did not fix the problem, and tried both the original Mac mouse and my Wacom tablet but neither fixes the problem.
Same problem FF3.6.13 WinXP. I had this before but it went away. Upgraded from Firebug 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 tonight and the problem returned; not sure if that's coincidence.
Weird thing is, it's not just that Firefox doesn't respond to the mouse clicks. The click goes right through Firefox to whatever's underneath. However, only the top FF window is affected. If I have two FF windows open, alt-tab into window A, then into window B (both maximised), then when window B stops responding the clicks are picked up by window A.
With window B not responding but over window A, if I click where window A has a SELECT, window A receives the mouse event and the OPTIONS appear over window B.
Only alt-tabbing to another non-Firefox window fixes the problem, and only temporarily. -
Mail does not respond to mouse clicks properly
This bug in Mail started in Lion, and has continued (or possibly worsened in some instances) in Mountain Lion. Has anybody heard of a fix?
Basically Mail acts like it is freezing, but in fact is not handling mouse clicks properly.
1) If Mail is "behind" another active app window, clicking in the content area of the Mail window will not activate the window until you click a SECOND time.
2) Once you get Mail to respond by clicking it the second time, if you click back and forth between it and the window in front (e.g. between safari and mail, the clicks DO register, but Mail acts as if the click position is offset from where you actually click. The offset seems to vary and I haven't found a consistent link between the offset and where I click in mail or the other window, or the relative positions of the two windows.
3) When you try the 2) trick on elements that can scroll, you realise that as well as an offset, Mail is trying to "drag" instead of respond to a click, so the list of mail folders pulls and bounces back, or the list of mail scrolls, or sometimes if everything lines up, an image of an envelope appears and moves as if you are trying to drag an email from one place to another.
4) Clicking on the title/button/toolbar of Mail ALWAYS brings it to the front...
5) If you bring Mail to the front by repeatedly clicking on the content area (and yes, sometimes it takes more than one click...) and as the FIRST thing you do after activating the window, click one of the buttons in the toolbar (e.g. the trash or delete button), it will depress, and stay down, as if you have done a "press and hold" instead of a "click". Clicking on the button again will complete the action, but clicking elsewhere in the title bar will release the button and the action will not occur, just as if you had held the mouse button down and dragged off the button before releasing, which is appropriate behaviour IF you had held the mouse button down in the first place...
6) If you activate Mail by clicking in the content area, then clicking a second time in the content area, then continue to single click around the content, it behaves as if it is one step behind you, responding as if the LAST click is the click you just made. Interestingly the "button down state" seems to persist, because for instance clicking on a succession of emails will highlight each email in turn, but the content of the email on the right will not update with each click, only updating when you "break out of the cycle" with a double click or a title bar click.
These are all REPRODUCIBLE, even after a restart.
They ONLY happen in Mail.
I have tried mouse, track pad, turning off bluetooth, so I don't think these things are related.
SO...
I THINK that MAIL, since Lion, has an issue with its event handler, where MouseUp events are either lost or mishandled, so that clicks are being registered as drags, or the "button down" state is not updated or something...
With the above description I feel the Mail programming team should be able to track down the bug in minutes and fix it.
Apple - feel free to get in contact with me and I will let you access my machine via remote desktop or teamviewer or something to see the bug in action.
It is time to fix this annoying behaviour.

Worked out that 2 and 6 are related - the offset isn't an offset at all - it is the thing you last clicked on!Okay, I tried deleting the Finder preferences first (along with a handful of other preference files that I knew were no longer needed), and it seemed to help--at first. But eventually, all the same problems started happening again, so I concluded that it was necessary to just start with a fresh (empty) preferences folder. As you know, this is a pain to deal with, but I limited my pain by moving all the old preferences files into a folder on the Desktop rather than simply deleting them. That way, I could just put back any missing preferences that were too hard to recreate. Restoring all of my preferences with new (uncorrupted) prefs files will be an ongoing process, but the good news is that this effort (so far) seems to have solved the problem. Mail is responding to all my clicks, even when I switch between different apps and different spaces. :-)
Now that things are working correctly, I notice that when I switch between apps and/or spaces, the selected app (or the frontmost app in the new space) will show an active state for its window, whereas before, the selected app didn't update to show that it was active--it kept the inactive state for its window. I'm no expert, but it seems to me that this might have something to do with the windowserver process, so it might make sense for the next person who stumbles on this thread to start by deleting any preferences files that begin with com.apple.windowserver. Just a hunch, but it's worth starting there before you do a complete flush of all your preferences.

Response to mouse click by combo box list and underlying clickable label

we developed a label responding to a mouse click by opening and thereby displaying an associated help text. The label extends a project specific hierarchy of labels and thus implements MouseListener, of course. Now we encountered a strange problem: It occurs when a combo box is placed above such a label in a panel. By clicking the combo box a selective list drops down and covers the label. As soon as a mouse click is performed on a list item directly covering (i.e., right in front of) the clickable label not only this item is selected but the help screen associated with the underlying label is displayed, too. So the mouse click is processed twice: as proposed by the combo box and unwantedly by the label. This behaviour could not be reproduced on other components being placed below a combobox. So the label itself seems to be the cause but we cannot imagine what could exactly be the reason for this double reaction. Perhaps anyone heard of something like that?
We are currently working with IBM Visual Age for Java 2.0 (Java version 1.1.8 with the according Swing version). The clickable label reflectively calls methods of a model to determine whether help is available and if so later on to open this help text.

DaniloThank you for your response. I tried both to check the focus and to consume the event. But I had to learn that labels are not able to catch the focus. I also was not able to consume an appropriate event of the combobox. So I finally solved the problem by extending JButton and implementing ActionListener. Thus my labels are actually buttons but I changed their appearance and behaviour so one cannot distinguish them from labels.

MBA Mouse clicks not registering?
I've got a weird one with my son's MBA (2008), running Mountain Lion. It's not recognizing mouse clicks from either trackpad or external Magic Mouse. This is happening from boot- normal boot, safe boot and booting into tools menu.
He was playing minecraft when it went out and nothing I've tried since has got it back- basically lots of reboots and reseting NVRAM and SMC.
I don't have a wired USB mouse to test that with at home, and I don't have an external USB drive with enough space to create a mountain lion rescue disk at them moment- at least not one I'm milling to mess with (backup drives). I'll pick up an 8GB thumb drive later and give that a try however.
Any thoughts appreciated- likely a trip to the genius bar, but that's best avoided- closest one is an hour away.This is kind of a dirty rotten problem. Your submenus are inside the main menu right? So when you click on a submenu item (i.e. menu1A), you are also clicking on the main menu (menu1). Technically both click events fire (menu1a is first, menu1 is second). A better way to think about it is: If you are doing construction on your bathroom you are doing construction on your house since the bathroom is in your house. Confusing, right?
To fix this, you want to "cancel" the click event for menu1 if you click on one of the sub menu items. Add this line into each of your sub menu functions:
e.stopImmediatePropagation();
So one of your functions would look like this:

Back to my case,here's the system info that might be related:
-All drivers updated.
-CS4 and CS5 both updated to newest version, though issue actually happens regardless whether it's CS4 or CS5, newest patch or a bit old.
-Logitech MX518
-Win 7-32bit/I930/R6950/Asus P6TD/Crucial 4G/Dell 2311H
And here's what I tried before, not solving the issue at all.(i.e. all threads above are not containing the solution)
-Update to CS5, degrade to CS4, update to newest patch, roll back to old one.
-Adjust various options in the preferrence like OpenGL drawing and temp file location.
-Reset the preferrence, reset the plugin or even clear all 3rd party plugin,reset the temporary files folder of the system.
-Purchase a new mouse,try with old graphic card which is R4870 and 8800GT,try with only 2G ram, try with smaller monitor.
-Reinstall the creative suit completely with using Adobe Cleaner to clear all the residual info/files/reg of photoshop.
None of them work, and issue persists.
Generally the issue is like someone pulling you mouse while holding the left mouse key or releasing it against you holding it, resulting a tons of unwanted execution (random box, random erasing, messy brush, expanding or reducing your selection area, namely destroying the work).
There's no precise way of reproducing the issue, though the way I test wheter my action works is by crazy moving mouse and clicking, which sometimes will cause random area to be selected even if I only click the mouse(and actually I invert the mouse and make sure that the cursor is not moving at all)
It's affecting all tools with which you need to have some kind of clicking in it, which consists of most my workload. Literally when it happens, it's cancelling whatever I do and I have to waste same amount of time to get rid of those actions. This is driving me nuts really.
Sorry I can't provide with more details though I know it could be rather usefull if I remembered when I for the first time had this issue and what I did around then

Does it only happen ONLY with Photoshop or do you see the same problems with other apps? I really don't think it's a Photoshop problem, given that you're seeing it in two different versions, and that a lot of others virtually never see the problem. Adobe would be out of business if everyone was seeing this kind of mouse madness.
You've updated drivers... Does that include any BIOS updates or driver updates for the motherboard itself?
Have you used a tool like AutoRuns to determine all of what's starting and running on your system?
People with as much trouble as you have often work very long and hard, well beyond a point where they should consider a punt - e.g., wipe the system completely and do a fresh reinstall of the OS, or even go so far as to buy a new computer. I'd probably take the old one out to a deserted spot and shoot it up pretty good, myself. Just remember to keep in mind that your time is worth something. If you spend tens of hours of time trying things, diagnosing things, undoing errors, etc. that's time you could be productive if the problem weren't happening.

JEditorPane - mouse click simulation doesn't work

I have a little problem with my JEditorPane. I want to implement the posibility to put signs on a document loaded in a jeditorpane and save them. One solution is to save the position of the scrollbar, but because the font size can be changed it will not be working. So I want to simulate a cmouse click on the first row of text from viewport to put there the caret and take after that his position. The problem is that the simulation for the mouse click donesn,t work. The event is simulated, but the caret position is not changing.
I tried also using Robot class, but this implementation give me a serie a mouse events and it moves the cursor to the requested position and it's not the behaviour that I want.

If tou run this code you can observe that when the "PUSH" button is pressed the jeditorpane receives a mouseclick event, but the caret position is not changing.
Strange is that when you click with the mouse over the editor pane the caret position is changed and I don't understand what is wrong.
Can you help me please?You can use viewToModel() method to get caret position for x, y location. No need to click.
