Weird Mousepad Clicking

Today my mousepad started clicking differently. Instead of having a solid, deep click with a sound as it goes to the bottom, it now barely goes down and makes a muffled sound. What do you think is wrong? Should I open it up as see if dirt got in there? I like my Macbook to be in perfect condition, so I'm being a little anal about this.
Thanks

You should not open the machine up, because even if you did (and even if you voided your warranty by removing the non-user-serviceable battery to access the underside of the trackpad) you would be completely unable to see whether anything had gotten into the trackpad. The thing to do is take the machine in for examination at an Apple Store or AASP. There's a chance that the trackpad tension can be adjusted quite easily by a technician.

  • Mouse/mousepad clicks and taps not always recognised.

I've noticed recently that I have an issue with both my magic mouse and my mouse pad, effecting both left and right clicks on the mouse and mousepad, and taps on the mousepad too. I've noticed the issue across many of the main applications I use, such as Mail, Adium, but is more apparent in Safari, or other browsers, where mouse clicking is used more.
The issue is that not all mouse/mousepad clicks and taps are recognised on the first click, even when the mouse icon changes with link rollovers etc. It is more apparent when changing between application windows or after opening a new window/tab/page in Safari. Closing/minimising windows is effected etc, as is selecting items on the Dock. In all cases when this happens, a second click/tap always works.
I'm guessing that it is a problem with Finder, maybe caused by another program or something. It's really annoying actually!
    Any ideas?

But when I click (either right or left) the computer ignores me.
    I can only assume that:
    * mouse is somehow broken - although clicks feel okay, or
    * computer is somehow broken and can't tell clicks are being made
    So, what do I do?
Buy a new mouse for £50?  Or adjust something in the computer?   No idea which is best, and HP won't help as the computer is just over one year old.
Try moving the USB receiver closer.
You could also try uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers from Device Manager, then the original driver then the updated driver from your Update page on the HP Website.
Also try running a virus scan using Malwarebytes if you can, Malwarebytes Home Page
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
    2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.
    Kudos if I helped!

  • Weird right click problem

Okay, this started mid day yesterday, and I can't find any topic on it. When I right click on something (i.e. folder, file, or even the back button in Safari) it acts like a double click. I haven't installed anything new lately other than Quicktime and itunes update this morning. I checked my Keyboard & Mouse setting in the system prefs, and everything looks fine there. Any suggestions?
Oh yeah, I even tried loggin in as a different user and it still happens. Tried running Disk Utility.
    Thanks!

    Glad to hear that!
    Enjoy your Mac

  • Very frustrating problem with mousepad, clicker, and cursor.

Hi, guys. Anyone who could help me with this would have my sincere appreciation.
Recently (in the last week), my three-year old MBP has been giving me ****. Sometimes the problem is around, sometimes it isn't, but tonight was the last straw. I can hardly use MS Word to type anything, which is very frustrating since I'm a writer.
When I move the cursor over something, sometimes it will select whatever it's over even though I didn't click. For example, in Word, it will click some random space in the middle of the page and automatically put the typer there. Another example- when I use iTunes and I want to select a specific spot in a track I'm listening to, it won't "click out". So when I move the cursor, even though I've clicked out, the cursor will still drag the music backwards or forwards. Another thing that happens, is I will unintentionally open a document or program, even though I did not click, but the cursor was over it. One other thing- if I'm on the Finder and there's nothing on the desktop, sometimes the cursor will start making those gray selection squares and even though I keep clicking out, it keeps making new ones.
Is this a virus? Is it a hardware problem? Any ideas?
Thanks for the help. My MBP is up to 10.5.something.

Couldn't find an edit button, so I'm double-posting, sorry. Anyway, recently, I've been restarting when the problem gets too unmanageable and every time I've restarted, it automatically ejects my disc somewhere between blacking out and the log-in screen.

  • Weird mouse click behaviour

    Hi,
I don't really know how to explain this. Somethimes, in some situations, my mouse clicks registers twice. Like sometimes I can't minimize an applicatireaon by clicking on the taskbar entry, because the click registers twice and the application minimizes but right after that restores too. It happens with both right and left mouse buttons. Sometimes can't bring up the rigth click menu in thunar, because it appears and right after that disappears, but if I rigth click elsewhere,in an another application, it works. So it happens only with certain elements of the gui, it isn't that everywhere I click, it counts twice, only with a specific menu, or with the taskbar, or with an icon on my desktop - but can drive me crazy.
With equinox gtk engine it happens more often than with clearlooks engine
I observed this behavior with Linux Mint Debian Edition and with openSUSE with certain themes, and now with Arch. I don't think it is a hardware error, because it appears only with some elements of the desktop, not everywhere everytime, I don't think my mouse knows that I want to minimize firefox and decides to mailfunction just to drive me crazy
Does anybody else observed this? Has anybody an idea how can I fix it?
I use Xfce, but when I tried LMDE, I used Gnome, my apps are up to date, the mouse is a A4tech G6.

I have the same behavior along with an additional clause that sometimes mouse clicks will not register at all.
I am using i3...so I do not think its DE/WM specific. Been looking at xev...but it doesn't show up anything.
Here's my Xorg.0.log, no errors as such, some information about using evdev for the mouse at the very end.

  • I have this weird right-click popup menu that displayes all of the options for FF:

So sometimes when I right-click my mouse button this popup menu with all the options possible comes up... I have a picture if you need.
P.S. It's not an addon or plugin; this happens to my friends computers and new Firefox installations too.

This issue can be caused by an extension (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Weird Mouse Clicking Issue

Okay, not sure where to post this but this seems to make the most sense.
I have this recurring problem and cannot figure out what is causing it. It makes my mouse instantly double click with just one click. It has done so in the past and then gone away. I can't figure out what caused it to stop, as I've restarted my system a few times and this has not seemed to correct it so I don't think it's that simple. I've gone in and tweaked the mouse settings in the Sys Prefs as well as in the Logitech Control Center. It's completely maddening in that almost everything I click gets double clicked; windows minimize all the time, emails get deleted or marked as just because I go to do one and it double clicks and deleted or junk marks the next in the list. You get the point. I can't figure it out and wonder if anyone else has experienced this or knows what I might try in an attempt to correct this.

Having the same issue and am pretty shocked that there isn't more coverage in here. This forum http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=791775&page=3 has a full breakdown of testing etc so it's most likely an SL problem... sheesh.
C'mon support. Get on this. There can't only be a few people with this problem. Sorry if this posts twice, my left mouse button sometimes double clicks

  • Play button double click !

hi . i had my ipod nano with my headphones in my back pocket. i sat down on my sofa , i realised and took it out . now for some reason if i press the bit imbetween play and backwards it feels weird and clicks like twice , also sometimes when i press play it clicks twice and ( not the clicker sound just the sound of moving down. call me a perfectionist ( which i am ) lol . it just quite annoying because it feels weird . but it does still work . please tell me if there is a way of fixing this or should i just shut up and stop worrying ?thanx

please tell me what this diagnostic thing is . i also have an older ipod but the screen is broken . this morning while i was listening to my ipod nano it skipped onto the next song while i was half way through another. i also noticed that while i was viewing a photo there was a weird black line on it , i went back and tried again and it had vanished. also when i turn it off and lock it , then i un-hold , it it doesn't always turn back on and sometimes i have to press a button even if i havn't had it turned off for ages. ( if i send it to apple what do you think they would do. ?
    thanx

  • Safari in 10.9.4...problems with clicking

Updated last night to OSX 10.9.4...noticing that Safari is acting weird when clicking upper chrome links and Favorites Bar links.  When I click anything it opens up the drop down menus real fast and close it so I have to click again to keep it open and get want I want.  Slowed my click speed way down, but it still does that...it aggravating!!  Any ideas on how to stop this when I'm browsing in Safari?

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Multiple Ultrabeat instances cause pops/clicks unrelated to system performance

    Hi folks,
Recently I started having the oddest of issues:
I haven't used ultrabeat in the longest of times. I opened up a few old projects with multiple ultrabeat instances and was getting some weird pops/clicks on transients when multiple Ultrabeat instances were present.
If I mute them, the problems persist. But as soon as I rid the project of all but a single instance the issue goes away.
I do not have any disk/memory issues, and can confirm as much since most of my current projects involve running multiple (and massive) Quantum Leap/East Wst libraries (of the 24bit variety) without any issue. System is a 6-core Mac Pro with 24GB of RAM of lots of fast disks on Lion (current) with Logic (current). Audio I/O is a FF800.
I have no idea why this is happening or how to go about fixing it. Anything would help!
    Thanks!

I'm tempted to say this isn't an I/O buffer issue... as it happens at any latency setting... (from 32 to 1024) and only with Ultrabeat in use on multiple tracks.
I'm currently running a project that has 10 Play instances (covering some 20GB of samples), Kontakt running Steven Slate drums, and a number of other Logic Softsynths and they all run fine - even with multiple Ultrabeat instances.
It's in-fact only the Ultrabeat instances with suffer the clicks and pops on simultaneous transients. No other tracks suffer the issue, including massive string and piano libraries running at the same time.
If I mute the Ultrabeat tracks - the rest of the instruments sound fine. If I unmute a single ultrabeat instance but multiples are there.. that instance will exibit the artifacting. At some point, I'll post a sample.
My current workaround is to simply bounce one fo the Ultrabeat multi-outs down to audio tracks and cut/splice/mix there. The problem is gone... but it's still a problem. I can return to running my sessions at 32 or 64 samples of latency.

  • Weird sound on left speaker

    Hello!
After 30 - 60 sec my MBP making some weird sound click. It's coming from left speaker.
I search from Google and I made 'disc check - mayby my HD needs repair. OK, then Disk Utilitie said "Volume header needs minor repair". Reboot on Install CD and made Disk Repair. OK, now it's everything OK... BUT that weird sound is still. Every 1 - 5 min it's clicking.

    I found that link: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/audioupdate2007001.html
Mayby it's problem with audio? How I can install it to 10.4.11? This update is only for 10.4.10

  • How do I stop my MacBook Pro from buzzing?

My MacBook Pro occasionally makes these weird buzzing/clicking noises even when it isn't on. After awhile, it usually stops but sometimes it takes longer to stop. It sounds like it's coming from the vent thing connecting the keyboard to the screen. Is there any way that I can stop this from happening? What should I do? Thanks!!!

I was able to use an old Linksys wireless router and the touch gets an IP, etc. with no problems but I can not get my Touch to work with the WRT54G. Any ideas?

its possible to have a bad power supply that has too much AC ripple on the output which can make the screen do weird things

  • Now Windows 7 won't install..

    Hey everyone
You may need to know the previous issues ive had in order to fully understand my situation.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2290449&start=0&tstart=0
Pretty much, no hard drive will work inside the macbook pro except the stock drive.
I've been going with the stock drive. So today i decided to install windows 7 so i could play like the only game i have for windows. I go through the bootcamp setup, partition the drive (which took quite some time). Then i booted up from the windows 7 install DVD. Go through setup and it copies files in just a couple seconds, then i get to expanding files, and it hangs at 0%. Then i get an error message that says "windows can not install required files. File may be corrupt or missing".
So i booted back into OS X. Delete the partition, recreate it, then try again, same results. I figured that the disc might be bad, so i burned another install DVD (i bought W7 from the Microsoft website), and this time it freezes at the "setup is copying files" (the black screen you see immediately after the DVD boots). The white progress bar gets to maybe the 1/10th mark. After hanging for several minutes i get a message that says that there was an issue communicating with hardware, and that i should disconnect any external devices.
But i have none connected! Except for the power supply.
Me having all of these issues is starting to worry me. It's like the computer works, yet sorta doesn't at the same time, and it would be nice if everything that should work would.
If i took it into apple, they wouldn't deem anything wrong with the computer. All the diagnostics (disk utility, tech tool plus, drive genius, S.M.A.R.T. Utility) say that the drive and computer are fine, although there is a weird mechanical click that the hard drive makes every several seconds.
I'm convinced that after the issue with getting other hard drives to work, and now installing windows on the hard drive that does work, that there is some underlying issue here. I love this computer, but i would love it more if everything would work like it is supposed to.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dan
    P.S. - I have installed (successfully) W7 on a mac before!

I did take it to the apple store when i couldn't get any other hard drive to work. They just told me that if the stock drive works then the computer "works" and that there was nothing they could do.
Mac OS 10.6 runs fine, but the inability to switch hard drives (yes, they were formatted properly, and i tried different ones of different sizes) and now install windows is just weird.
