Im hoping its not the CPU.  ;(

hi
do you have any standoffs behind the motherboard making a short curcuit?
any screws lying on the motherboard?
any loose cable in there?
try to clear cmos.
maybe try safe mode jumper j10 and j11.
i believe its better to post one time to many than not posting at all and just have a bunh of problems someone might have a good answer to.
good luck

Some Weird noises from my MacBook Pro mid to late 2014

Maybe you could describe what kind of "weird" noises you are hearing? Everybody's perception of weird is not the same, and something that you may think is weird may have a logical explanation. But we can't even begin to diagnose it without a little more to go on....

  • Weird noises from HP Pavilion m7

I hear these weird noises coming from my speakers on start up and shutdown or even going on youtube. I Reinstalled IDT high definition driver couple times cause Hp Support Assistant upgraded my IDT drivers and my BeatsAudio doesnt work. When i reinstalled it, it works but when i restart my laptop it makes this weird almost-like static like noise. Is there anyway to fix this?
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp57501-58000/sp57966.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios Menu ( usually f10 ).  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load, then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button.
    Restart the notebook.

  • Weird noise from CPU

A few nights ago I awoke to hear my P-book G4 making a loud crackling noise so I freaked out and shut it down. After restart the next day it booted fine and then just booted up to a blue screen. I Waited until today and I tried to reboot off of the startup disk, and it spit that out and then all of a sudden it restarted normally but made those crackling noises again. THe noises have now stopped and I am running disk utility on it to see if that helps but does anyone know anything about this issue and if so could I have some help. Thanks

Denny: Replace your hard drive. The optical drive can't possibly make crackling or grinding noises without a disc in it, and it can't slow the operation of the computer to a crawl or prevent a normal startup from the hard drive. A failing hard drive would account for all the symptoms you've experienced, including the awful noises. Replacing the HD is easy; instructions for doing so are right in your Powerbook owner's manual.
I hope all your data is backed up, because any grinding noises you've been hearing could have been the read-write heads in your hard drive plowing furrows into the surface of the platter where your data used to be. You'll be very, very lucky if you're able to recover everything important from that drive. The more you try to use it, the smaller your chances of salvaging anything from it will become.

  • IBook will not power on suddenly, weird noise from CD drive

    Hello!
My iBook G4 (800 MHz, 512MB RAM) was working fine yesterday, then suddenly this morning it wouldn't power on. When I press the power button, I can hear the hard drive start spinning, but there is no chime and no screen. It just stays black.
The optical drive also makes a strange noise. Usually when you start it up, you can hear the CD drive make noise like it does when it ejects a CD. But now, it sounds very strange. If I had to guess, I would say that it sounds like it is going out.
I have tried to start without the battery and have reset the PRAM and PMU multiple times without any luck. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Here's the troublshooting guide from the service manual:
    "Startup
The computer will not power on
    1. Remove any connected peripherals.
    2. Try known-good power outlet.
    3. Try known-good power adapter and power cord.
    4. Remove battery.
    5. Reset the power manager by pressing the key combination Control-Option-Shiftpower.
Warning: Make sure you do not hold down the "fn" key when resetting the
    power manager.
Warning: Resetting the power manager will permanently remove a RAM disk, if
present, and all of its contents. You will also need to reset the date and time
(using the Date & Time control panel).
    6. Disconnect internal keyboard completely. Inspect connectors. Restart with keyboard
    disconnected.
    7. Remove any additional RAM and AirPort Extreme Card.
    8. Try known-good DC board.
    9. Verify power button is connected properly to logic board, if power button is not
functioning correctly or damaged, replace the top case.
    10. Replace logic board."
Now that #10 would be about U28 or the GPU. U28 is that site I sent you. The GPU sits under the option-Apple key and you can put pressure on it from underneath that area. There is a large heat spreader that sits on top so you have to come from underneath.

  • Another weird noise from my 2011 15" MBP (6750M)

Whenever I scroll down a webpage in Firefox with some graphics on the page, or another OSX window on top of Firefox, I can hear the gfxcard (left to the trackpad) making a noise that is clearly in sync with the scrolling I do. I can hear it when in a quiet room well enough to be aware of it.
    Anyone experiencing this?
You can test for it by scrolling a webpage in Firefox while there’s another window on top (see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STico7bHXl0 ). It only happens with certain applications, e.g. scrolling in Safari doesn’t produce this sound. English isn’t my native tongue so my characterization of it will be lacking, but I’d would describe it as dense crackling in rapid succession.

You're fine.  You're probably hearing the voltage regulators twitching because you're putting a load on the GPU.
FFX4 uses your GPU if hardware acceleration is turned on. (Preferences > Advanced)
    Safari doesn't (yet).

  • Very weird noise...

I was using photoshop on Windows with my MacBook Pro and all of a sudden I hear this noise that sounds like it's loading something. Most of you know that with a MacBook Pro that when loading takes place you can hear it in the centre / left side. Usually the only noise that is coming from the right is when you insert a CD. I have no CD's in my drive and I never heard this sound before. It just randomly started happening, never moved / bumped my MacBook, was just using photoshop.
The noise would get louder then it would slow down stop for 5 seconds, then go back up... and it's freaking annoying.
Should I System Restore or something? I have no idea what to do.

For some reason it's not letting me edit so I keep having to reply. Anyways, when it's not making the weird noise from the right side, it now makes this deep quiet noise in the centre, it sounds like an idle engine, literally. What is happening to my laptop all of a sudden!?

  • Macbook Pro making loud and weird noise

Okay, so I was just watching some videos on youtube and I fell asleep. Even the battery drained to zero% and hibernated. Then after around 7 hours when I woke up, and turned it on again then it started to make really weird noise from inside like hmmm I couldnt figure what was the problem, either the speakers? Fan? Hard-disk? Superdrive?
Then I turned it off and turned on again. It was quiet for a moment until the log in window appeared and started to making same noise again. Then I cleared PVRAM or something holding down Command+Option+P+R and Power Button then it is kinda fine now but still loud enough to bother people.
It seems like some wire or hmm something is stuck inside some moving part inside it but I am not sure. I just keep my Macbook Pro on the table all the time as a desktop I have never had such problem before.
Help please? What do I need to do? It's a

You said at the start that the battery discharged completely...did you plug the MBP in and recharge?  Does the MagSafe show it is charging or running on AC?
Does the noise sound lik a clicking, sound the hard drive stepping motor makes?  Or is it more of a hum, or a grating sound?  If the latter it could be a fault with a fan or a bad bearing in the hard drive.
    How does it perform otherwise?
Might be a good candidate for a visit to the Apple genius bar and have the techs run some diagnostics.

  • Satellite C665 - Noise from Adaptor

    Hi there,
I bought this Toshiba Satellite C665 from JB HiFi Australia about 2-3 weeks ago. Today I suddenly heard some weird noise from the adaptor. I really don't know how to describe the sound, but I did recorded using my mobile.
The weird noise lasted for about 30mins. Now it stopped but I am a bit worried - whether it is safe to use this adaptor or not.
Is this just normal for Toshiba adaptors?
Should I take it to Toshiba and get someone to check it? Will you guys charge me service fee for this?
And I don't know who I should contact in ANZ.
PS. I can upload there recording if needed, the mp4 file is just about 132K.
    Thanks,
    Soph

    Hello Soph
Unfortunately I cannot give you some precious answer but I never heard noises on my adaptors.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.
In worst case they can order new AC adaptor and replace it.

  • Weird noises coming from DV3-4110ej laptop

    Hello everybody ! .
My laptop was sent to repairs few weeks ago due to weird noises (which i can only describe by words=>sound like long ' bzzzzzzz
' sounds which will not last the whole time, but every 2-3 seconds (for about 10-15 seconds, maybe more) ) .
According to the technician, the problem was in the hd, which was replaced, but still, the noises didn't stop.
I've already tried formatting the new hd,defragment, tune up (by hp), read that it has something to do with the AC unit - connected it to the battery - no good.
about the comp (if it may help) :
    1 . DV3-4110ej , model number XM719EA#ABT
    2. os : Windows 7 64 bit
    Thanks in advance !
    Roei.

Here is a link to the Maintenence & service guide.
I would have to listen to it before saying it is the fan. Hard disks are sealed units and are usuallly relatively quiet.

  • Macbook Pro is slow/laggy and makes a weird noise

    Hello members,
I have a Mid-2010 Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion with all the latest updates. Everything was fine until 3 days back, when it started acting up. Moving the cursor was extremely laggy, and starting up any application takes forever. I also noticed a weird noise, more like a phone pulse dial, coming from the front. It repeats itself every 3 seconds, so I first thought it must be the HDD failing. But I have run all sorts of hardware tests but every test seems to infer that the HDD is working fine. Is it possible that the HDD is failing even though it doesn't show up on any test? The Apple store nearest to me is more than a 3 hour drive away, so it's almost impossible to go there in person. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance.

  • On start up disk slot makes weird noise

this isn't my question but its my friends mac makes this weird noise like dvvv divvv when on start up coming from disk slot

It is normal to make some DVD drive "access" noise at startup. If the drive still works (reads CDs or DVDs), don't worry about it - until it doesn't work anymore!

  • Why does my Mac make weird noises?

It's a late 2011 Macbook Pro, and for some reason, it makes a weird noise.. kind of like beads jiggling inside. It happens when i tilt my MacBook forward, and backwards. It's a brand new one. It's coming from inside.

I have the exact same problem and it's been a week or so. It kind of just makes those weird noises out of nowhere and scares the **** out of me. Did you end up at the Apple Store or were you able to fix it up on your own?
