What sort of machine are you using? I'm seeing similar things with the default podcast settings on my MacBook Pro. I've tried with a mic plugged into a Griffin iMic and with our normal setup of a studio mic plugged into a mixer (which is plugged into the line-in port). Both setups worked great with my PowerBook, but sound horrible with the MBP

  • Weird noises and voices when I make a call

Hello. I use Skype all the time at work. I usually make international calls and sometimes receive calls. Now and then, when I make a call, I can hear some weird, very loud noises in my headphones. It's like bits and pieces of conversations mixed with crackling and bumping sounds. Meanwhile, I can also hear the phone ringing. The noises stop when the other party picks up. The problem is they are very loud and my ears hurt every time because I keep the volume pretty high so I can hear the clients answering (the volume of the conversation automatically depends on the country I call) . What could be the problem? It happens with different headsets, different computers and different internet connections.

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Just to confirm, you have -not- installed the CoreAudio standalone driver -and- the one that installs with ProTools? This can certainly cause problems.

  • Help to get rid of background noise in GB3 when recording voice on Sony mic

I am recording my voice into GB3 using a Sony ECM-MS907 condenser microphone connected to the line-in input on my iMac (core duo 20"). I use basic vocals with no effects.
My voice records fine but there is a background noise underneath which I can't seem to get rid of. It is also present if I use the built in microphone. I don't think it is room noise as it is pretty constant throughout.
I have added a backing track which helps to mask it but this is not really satisfactory.
Any ideas how I can record without this apparent interference?

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
Classically USB microphones do not work with Premiere Elements (any version) for use with its Narration Tool. Have you found otherwise?
Where is the noise - in narration clips produced by the Narration Tool or from imported audio files added to numbered Audio Tracks and/or soundtrack?
From what you wrote, it appears that the audio noises are confined to the narration being produced with your microphone and Premiere Elements Narration Tool. Is that correct?
Under fx Effects there are audio effects that you can explore to reduce noise. See Reference Effects Adobe document for a description of the fx Effects audio effects.

If you use the same microphone and create your narration in Audacity and import that narration into a Premiere Elements project, do you get noise in your narration?
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder
Besides making sure that your microphone is compatible with Premiere Elements, have you evaluated your narration recording techniques...how close are you to the microphone, room noise level while recording, etc.

  • How do you deal with weird noise when overlapping identical files in multitrack?

Sometimes when I'm editing I put two files (or two parts of the same file) "over" each other for various reasons - e.g. wanting to x-fade to a different version of the same file.
However, because the files are identical, if they are even a tiny tiny bit out of sync a weird noise is heard when they play and when they're overlapped.
I think this is called "phasing" and I know Audition 3 has phase correction tools which is great, but it seems to only correct cases where the left and right channel are out of phase in a waveform.
Does anyone have any techniques to recommend for correct this when it happens in multitrack view, apart from painstakinly moving the file a few bits to the left/right until the noise finally goes away (which takes ages and sometimes doesn't even work)?
    Thanks!
    Chris

If they truly are the same identical clip, then start by lining up two of them the hard way and then place markers in the clip, exactly where the next clip will line up. In other words, align the first two, and then where the second clip overlaps, place a marker exactly at the end of it, IN THE FIRST CLIP. Then, when you have to do it again, each copy clip will have the same line and you just align each new one. Hope this made sense.
There is also a feature to duplicate clips and you can choose between even spacing or just duplicate (end to end). If you calculate the distance from the beginning of the first clip to EXACTLY the beginning of the second, overlapping clip, you can input that into the option setting and it will do all the work for you...as many times over as you wish it to.

  • Weird noises, vibration and battery?

Okay, so I've just recently noticed that when I tilt my Macbook Air OS X, version 10.9.4, (schoolcomputer) doesn't quite work as usually.
First off, my usbports doesn't work - none of them. This happened like a week ago, and i've never used all of them, just one.
And then tonight when I tilted my mac to the sides there was weird noises sounding, like when you shake your keys.
After that my whole mac started vibrating, and it still hasn't stopped.
And my battery was at 4%, but then suddenly changed to 8%
oh yeah and also, it gave me an electric shock earlier yesterday, but it was only one and nothing happened afterwards, so I just shook it off.
Is it broken or what's happening?

You should make an appointment with an Apple Genius, bringing both the computer and power adapter with you, and discuss your options.

  • Color Laserjet Pro M277dw making weird noises when printing

Hello Everyone, At my office we bought the Color Laserjet Pro M277dw printer last week, and since then everytime we print, the printer makes really weird noises. We checked inside but everything inside looks to be okay . Here you have the link with an audio I recorded with the sound it makes. Thank you very much and it would be great if you guys could help us to find a solution! Best, Lorena

Grinding can only mean physical damage to the printer.  You need to isolate the sound and replace the part to resolve the problem. The good news is that this is a new printer and will be covered by the warranty.  Contact HP directly and have them run you through the options.  It shouldnt cost you anything, but you do need to contact them directly.

  • High Pitched Noise When Recording From iSight Camera

I apologize if this has been asked before. I did a search on here as well as with Google.
Whenever I record a video clip using the built in iSight camera I notice that there is a constant high-pitched noise embedded in the clip. You don't hear the noise during recording, and otherwise the audio is crystal clear during playback, but I can't seem to figure out what is causing this noise. Video clips I import into iMovie don't have this problem. Has anyone else experienced this problem? How can I prevent this from happening with future recordings?

    Hello obsidianspider
I am sorry to report that you are one of about ten people who have posted here about audio noises during video recordings with MacBooks. I listened to your YouTube clip, and I believe you are hearing something. I can hear the muffled "thumping" of background noises being amplified because there is no voice or other close sound being recorded in your video, but my old ears do not hear anything high pitched in your video (or anywhere else for that matter.)
I am sure Apple is aware of the issue, but with so small a number reporting this issue among thousands of MacBooks sold, I understand why there is not yet a kBase technical article on this subject.
I expect that Apple searches its warranty & repair work for quality issues and trends, but, if you have not (and do not) contact Apple or your retailer for service on this issue, please report your problem via MacBook Feedback so Apple can accurately record the magnitude of this problem. Unlike posting in this user forum, "Feedback" reports go directly to Apple.
We users who post here have found no solution yet, so the problem appears to require professional service for resolution.
However, if you are willing to try a test, please post back and tell us whether video or movie clip recording applications other than Apple's give the same audio noise you hear when using iSight with iMovie. Apple's QuickTime Pro has already been tested and found to exhibit the problem.
If you have access to an external microphone that can be located away from your Mac while you record video, you could also test to see whether you are recording a physical sound coming from your Mac or electronic noise being produced within your Mac's circuitry.
If you want to read the suggestions we have offered for minimizing your audio noise in video recordings, take a look at the suggestions offered in Eemma's thread, which was the first to report this problem. The suggestions for minimizing noise start here:

  • When recording, strange noises and audio cut offs

When i open garageband and record a basic track (no other programs running), randomly, a scratchy noise that kinda sounds like a distorted, heavy metronome, comes from the left speaker or left headphone.
This noise is not recorded, but comes out very loudly in the monitor.
Also, when recording a basic track, the output audio will completely shut off from the monitor and from everything, but Garageband continues to record and the recording is not affected. This is a huge problem especially if im using a metronome or layering tracks. This does not affect iTunes or anything, JUST GarageBand
please help! should i bring it into a MacGenius?

    Hi ladyshade666-
Does it make this noise if you run the Mac with only the mouse, keyboard and monitor attached?
Are you absolutely sure the sound is coming from within the Mac? I have had a couple of FireWire disks that when connected inject all kinds of noise into my amplified speakers. I turn the drives off when I am in the studio.
Reverse polarity is very dangerous and will cause early demise of power supplies. You may also get yourself electrocuted. It may very well be the noise-causing difference in tour scenario.
I think your first call should be to an electrician.
    Luck-

  • High pitch noise when recording audio using internal mic

The issue I am having is with the internal mic. When recording audio using quicktime or garageband. It is a high pitch noise that stays whether i am speaking or not. The fix i found was to lower the input volume of the mic in system preferences. However, this causes my voice to be recorded so low that audio is barely usable unless volume is all the way up. Looking around the web I found this gem:
    http://www.usingmac.com/2009/6/18/recording-speech-with-garageband-2009
This help me get rid of the high pitch noise for Garageband. The noise still there for Quicktime. Any ideas on how I can keep the same mic input volume with out having to listen to the high pitch noise?
    Any help is appreciated.

Did you do the usual stuff, such as reset PRAM?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
There are some sound settings in PRAM, although I think it's only for sound output.
Also, as a test, I would create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
Log out and log in to the new account (do not use Fast User Switching). In the new account, try recording something using QuickTime, and note if this problem recurs. If it does not, you have eliminated a few possible causes, such as a problem with the overall system installation or a hardware issue, and isolated the problem to something in your normal user account.

  • Loud Noise When Recording, Portege M780

    Hello,
I just got my portege a few days ago. When recording a video using the toshiba recording program, there is a very loud noise together with my voice in the recorded video. Would anyone have experience with this issue? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply . I've removed the cover when doing both tests I mentioned. The earphone I used is at good condition and I don't see any problem with it. I've also reinstalled the iOS as your instruction, but still no luck, the video sound still has noise.
I've decided to export the video file to my PC to see if I can hear sound better or not, as it's hard to hear and sound except noise with the external speaker on my iPhone even at maximum volume. On my PC I had to increased playback volume to 100%, set volume booster to 300% and applied noise reduction plugin (I use Media Player Classic on Windows 7) to get an acceptable sound (still noise but better than the original). If I don't boost the volume, it's hard to hear anything. I don't expect it to be crystal clear like the voice memo (using the bottom mic), but too much noise like this is really bad.
So I think it appears to be a hardware-related problem. I will later consider to send it to a phone repair shop or keep it and accept this bad video sound problem . In Vietnam we just have Apple authorized resellers but don't have any official Apple repair shops, that's why I'm still confused as I don't really trust those phone repair shops to handle my iPhone. Anyway, thanks again for your comment .
P.S: it maybe a little off-topic, but do you know any video recording app that using the bottom mic ?

  • Crackling noise when recording

I am using an IMAC and the Steinberg CI2 interface to record and I am getting a crackling sound when recording. Does anyone know what this might be?
    Thanks

i have a similar problem with a yamaha mw12cx usb mixer and a macbook pro. i set the audio preferences to the specifications in the owners manual 44.1 khz on the input and 48 khz on the output and the crackling noise immediately went away. this worked for about 15 minutes of recording a narration but when the crackling started again, i couldn't set the output at 48 khz, it would change right back to 44.1khz. am i going to have to break the recordings up into 10 minute pieces?

  • Weird noise  when opening macbook

Hello. I'm asking this about my mums macbook actually, and she doesn't live near me so I have only heard the sound on the phone! However, you know the whirry start up sound that you hear when you wake the MacBook? It has suddenly become different. It goes on for longer, and sounds like some kind of a glitch, it's short bursts rather than a continuous tone, and it stops after a while. She says everything else seems to be functioning as usual. Any ideas please?

Hi, and thanks for the welcome
Nope, no disc in there. I got her to turn it all off and leave it a few hours and try again, but the weird noise is still there.

  • Weird noise when starting up Macbook Pro

    Hi there,
When i start up my MBP, I hear a weird noise that wasn't there before. It sounds like a CD changer changing CD's. I checked and there is no CD in the CD drive. I don't know if it is an HD problem or the CD drive problem. I ran a hardware test and there were no problems found. Here is a video of the noise:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqKbdVHzsNc
Please give any advice you can. It is making me worried so please let me know. I will take it to the Apple store if this is an issue. But it might have always been there, I just never paid attention to it.

    seannlim wrote:
The rep said it was normal? Apple support said it wasn't so hopefully they will swap it for a Hitachi. Hitachi drives don't make that noise right?
I will pass that to eliaz for his input as he had a new MBP also, but from history Hitachi is quieter.
Sound issue aside. What is really important to look out for is that all these drives are slot loading and dust will come into the drive opening very easy. Typical case is that you will loose dual layer dvd burning capability and get bad burns. Solution is to invest in a cleaning disc. If that does not work then it's an exchange of the drive that is needed.

  • Noise when recording through new sm58 mic

    Hi there
Just got an Sm58 to replace my crappy old mic. I have it plugged into a behringer ub502, which is in turn plugged into imic, and then into my Titanium PB G4 for recording using GB 3. The sound is great but there is noise, every time I record. It's like a crack or pop that comes sometimes every couple of seconds and sometimes every ten seconds or so. It's impossible to enjoy listening to anything with this noise, and I am having no luck getting rid of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance
    dajama

Sorry, Dajama, I read a lot of threads here. I had seen your post mentioning the thing that shall not be mentioned and associated it with a different thread. An interface of some sort is obviously required, and the iMic, unless it's defective, should work fine with your set up (I used one myself a while back)
There were some lengthy discussions about USB interfaces and clicks and pops in the GB2 forum last year, but a common denominator was never found. I experienced it only once myself, and did not have a USB interface hooked up (only a USB keyboard, which could have been a common denominator, except I never saw the problem again after that single incident)
    Sorry I don't have a useful suggestion B-(>
