Weird one!! ipod is showing as a playlist in itunes!

Hi,
I bought 2 X 4G 20gig ipods last Feb. I installed itunes and spent days adding 500+ cd's !! I then hooked up the first pod (mine)and filled it up, then connected the second (LOU's ipod). I remember we had a few problems with the second one (showing as a corrupt disc, in the system tray) and it eventualy had to be re-registered (i think...This is where the following problem may stem from).
There is a playlist which shouldn't be there titled 'Lou's Ipod'. This playlist was never made by me or Lou (there are 5431 tracks in this playlist!)It sort of appeared after connecting Lou's ipod.
I once deleted this playlist, and when the ipod was re-connected, it was wiped clean!! I think the ipod updates from this 'playlist' and the main Library!!! But this is the other weird bit..there are tracks/albums in the main library that are not in Lou's playlist!
It's like there is an itunes within an itunes. When the ipod is connected, i still get the picture and the name of the ipod further up and they still flash red!
I can't remember if this playlist got added to my ipod (i have since sold mine to buy the 60gig version), but i don't think it did. I have V3.1.1 on the ipod and V 6.0.4 in itunes.
Hope someone can make some sort of sense out of all that !!

  • I have one playlist on iphone4. how can i add new playlist without deleting old one. i do not have old playlist in itunes any more.

I have one playlist on iphone4. how can i add new playlist without deleting old one. i do not have old playlist in itunes any more. When i try to sync iphone with itunes it says that this action will remove my old playlist and all songs.

"it says that this action will remove my old playlist and all songs."
Are you connecting to a different iTunes library than you normally connect to?  That will erase the songs and playlists since the iPhone can't be connected to multiple libraries even if it is in manual sync mode.
If you no longer have access to the original library that your iPhone calls 'home', then the only way to save the playlist (and the songs on your iPhone) would be to use a 3rd party application to extract your iPhone contents to this new iTunes library you're trying to connect to.

  • Song shows up in playlist on iTunes, but not on the iPod Touch

So I bought a song from iTunes on my iPod Touch, and so it shows up on the "Purchased" playlist, and I can listen to it. So, I sync up to my PC (or my wife's MacBook Pro, doesn't matter) and using iTunes, I add the song to a playlist of my current favorites. I then sync the iPod. In iTunes, it shows the song as part of the playlist, and shows that there are 24 songs in it. But when I unhook the iPod and look at that exact same playlist, the new song does not show up, and it says that there are 23 songs in the playlist.
I have already tried deleting the playlist, creating a whole new one, and I can put any song I want in there, except for this one. ??? Anyone heard of this before?

If the song is in iTunes, and it is in a playlist that you auto-sync your Touch to, then the only things that might cause this problem are:
1- Is this new song un-checked in iTunes? If your Touch is set to sync only checked items that would prevent it from syncing. If that's the case, just enable the checkmark next to the new song and re-sync.
2- Is this playlist a smart playlist that is forced to be limited in size? If so, there is a bug with the 3.1.x OS such that smart playlists that are limited in size will have different contents (and sorted differently) when you compare the playlist on iTunes vs. on the Touch. The solution in this case is to disable Live Updating in the smart playlist definition, then the two versions of the playlist will agree.
3- Is the new song tagged as "Skip when Shuffling"? If so, and if your Touch is in shuffle mode, then the song count in the playlist will not include songs that are designated to be skipped.
See if any of those three things are what is going on. If not, then perhaps you need to reset or restore your Touch, but I doubt that.

  • Ipod not showing up in finder or itunes

I had to replace my old ipod and got this new 5th generation video one. i synched it once and haven't done it again in about 3 or 4 months, now it won't show up in finder or itunes. Tried reseting it... nothing. have upgraded to itunes 7.1.1, still nothing. i can't restore because it doesn't show up anywhere...any suggestions?

I uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime, then reinstalled
iTunes. Then I reset the ipod once I connected and
VIOLA! Now it works (2 trips to apple store and 1
    replacement ipod later!!)
Not to sound lazy, but not sure I want to go tthrough all of that?...
I have 3 connections chords, and two other iPods that show in iTunes no problem. This 5th gen video iPod will just not show up in iTunes or mount?Tried all the solutions posted around and nothing. It is fully charged (does charge etc.,) just won't show on the computer. It is a friend's iPod that I manage, so something might have happened while not in my care?
Anything else....? I've spent way too much time on this...

  • IPod mini shows up as corrupted in iTunes but works on another PC

I know this is a long shot, but I'm having some issues with my iPod mini and am hoping someone here has heard of this before. When I tried to sync my mini up with iTunes v7 I got a message saying that my iPod was corrupted and that I should restore it. I did this and it didn't correct the problem. After trying several different fixes that I found on the support page I gave up and purchased a new iPod nano. When I connected the nano I got the same error. Upon further investigation I discovered that my mini and the nano work perfectly fine with iTunes on every other computer that I've tried. I turned to a friend for help and we discovered that my computer isn't recognizing that my mini is formatted - it's showing the system file as RAW instead of FAT32. When I connect it to another PC it shows the correct formatting. I've tried everything that I can think of and still can't figure out the issue. If anyone has had this type of problem and knows how to fix it I would be very grateful for your help!

hmmmmmm. by any chance do you have a digital camera?
i'm thinking it's plausible here that you could be getting a Windows drive letter confusion on the PC, where the PC is thinking that your ipods are a camera (or some other device with onboard memory storage).
that's actually also consistent with relentlessly getting some messages telling you to restore the ipod (even though the ipod is showing up as perfectly fine on the PC).
working on that theory, let's see if these documents are of any help:
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore"
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear

  • Updated iTunes and iPod software  iPod not showing up under devices in iTunes

Updated software since computer said there were updates.  Now I'm having trouble with iPod not showing up under devices.  Have gone through all the steps under troubleshooting.  Nothing helped.  Had this same problem periodically in the past, as well.  Itunes also says I have an app I reinstalled today due to it not working properly, and it won't synch with iPod.  (earlier today, iPod was showing up and synching properly, but this app wasn't getting downloaded to the iPod.  Just shows up in iTunes.  HAve tried restarting computer, iTunes and iPod, but no luck.

Thank you but I have tried this and it still does not show up.  I even tried to delete itunes and reload it but the computer says that it is not able to delete itunes.

I have connected my iPod Touch to my new computer.  It synched, but does not ID it in the sidebar.  It is as if it isn't there.  Please help!  Thank you.

    Is the sidebar showing?
If you  have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar. The sidebar is where Devices appears. and Control+B to show the Menu bar

I've had to reinstall iTunes several times in order for it to recognize my iPod (30GB 2006 vintage).

  • How do i get my ipod to show up in the new itunes

I just recently got a new computer and just installed the latest version of iTunes, and I also updated the software for my iPod.  Now my iPod won't show up in my iTunes or in mycomputer. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

If you don't see anything when you connect your ipod it's meybe something wrong with the USB cable, If you have another you can try that.
try to shut down or restart your ipod and then connect it.

  • Ipod wont show up in windows or itunes

Just bought a 30gig vid. ipod and installed latest version of itunes. I tried to transfer songs but I can't even do that because my ipod, even though connected via USB cable, won't show up in "My Computer" or on itunes. I tried to reinstall itunes but it said can't stop ipod services. Same thing happened when I tried to repair it and restarting the comp doesn't help.
PS It lets me charge when plugged in my usb which is not a 2.0
    Any suggestions?

yea, i installed latest version of itunes, but even if i wanted to, my comp won't let me repair or uninstall itunes via control panel nor using the setup.exe (it says that ipod services cannot be stopped) i tried to stop the services manually but it didn't work either.

  • IPod not showing in my computer or ITunes

I have had my IPod video 30Gb since Christmas 2005 and have had no problems at all with it until now... The last time I connected it to my PC it just showed the battery charging symbol and it never appeared in ITunes. I am doubly confused because my husband has the identical model (albeit 3 months younger) and his still works fine. I have tried resetting my IPod, using a different USB cable/port, reinstalling software and nothing. I would like to try restoring my IPod but don't know how to do that if it isn't recognised by ITunes.
Has anyone else had this problem; if so how did you solve it?

    Hey!
    Have you seen this yet.....
