Weird outline occuring in resized pics in Lightroom 1.x

Hi,
I have a question regarding pics that are exported in Lightroom. When I'm done editing, I click on the export button and change the sizing dimensions to 1000x1000 so that I don't have to open it up in photoshop again to resize it. Whenever I do this, it creates an odd outline around some parts of the pictures. Here's an example from last night
http://digitalremix.net/upload/uploads/1/ninja_2010.jpg
If you look at the rear exhaust tip, you'll notice a white outline around the edge of the tip. The same occurs on the ZX6R lettering on the side of the bike. The only way around this, is to export in the original dimensions and then resize again in photoshop, but that's an extra step I'd prefer to not have to do. One of my friends experiences the same issue with lightroom, using the same version as me, which I believe is 1.4. Is there any way around this?

Ah, the resize problem:

http://lagemaat.blogspot.com/2008/08/lightroom-artefacts-even-show-up-when.html
This has to do with Lightroom/ACR's scaling algorithm. There is nothing you can do about it but using a different program such as LR/mogrify or Photoshop to scale your images. It doesn;t show up in many images for me, but when it does, it is a major annoyance.

• Can i resize pic in iphoto

Hi, is it possible to resize pics in iphoto? At the moment I use the email facility to do it.

What do you want to resize?
File -> Export:
The Jpg Quality setting will impact the file size - expressed on kb or MB
The Size setting allows you to specify a target size in pixels for the Photo.

• "DSCF0019.RAF" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Why is this occuring on my iMac with Lightroom 5?

“DSCF0019.RAF” could not be used because the original file could not be found.
Why is this occuring on my iMac with Lightroom 5?
Is there something I've done that causes some images to go missing?

Why is this occuring
The usual reason is because you moved the file to another location using Finder. No way for LR to know that unless you tell it by clicking on the exclamation mark icon in the grid view and then clicking "Locate".

• Partition failed: A problem occurred while resizing Core Storage physical volume structures

Hi everybody,
I have just installed Yosemite on my iMac and everything works right.
iMac 27" late 2012
3,4 Ghz intel core i7
32 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
3TB Fusion drive.
Now I need to create a bootable partition to install a copy of Mavericks because some FCPX plugins do not work on Yosemite.
To create a new partition I use Disc Utility, but each time I try to create it the mac show me this error:
partition failed A problem occurred while resizing Core Storage physical volume structures
Why?
What can I do?
P.S. FCPX does not work on a virtual machine, so I have to install it on a new partition
Thanks

Ditto here.
Same problem - I have a Apple_Corestorage partition that can't be unlocked.
You have to do this command to free up the Corestorage partition
diskutil coreStorage delete logicalGroupUUID
In your case, it'll be:
diskutil coreStorage delete E2CDC5FC-DA6E-4F43-B524-8925ABB23883

• How can i resize pics for wallpaper?

can i resize pics to fit as wallpaper without it stretching?

Maybe there is a better way, but I can offer you my
Screen resolution for iPhone 4 is 640×960 and for the iPhone 5 is 640×1136
You should make a picture 640 pixels wide and of reasonable height, minding the lowest row of icons. Very high picture will be distorted.
The wallpaper can be prepared using any picture (camera, Google, etc) by resizing in your computer or with the help of special app (I use the free "SimpleResize").
If you use the computer, then send the ready picture to yourself by email, then save it to the Camera Roll.
Use Settings>Wallpaper & Brightness>Choose Wallpaper>Photos>Camera Roll
Good Luck

• How can I process pics in Lightroom that have uploaded from my IPad?

How can I process pics in Lightroom that I have uploaded from my IPad? I have managed to copy pics from the IPad into a file located in My Lightroom Pictures (and located on an external Hard Drive), which is where I put all my pictures. I an see the file in Finder and can even work with them as a Project in IPhoto, but nothing happens in Lightroom.

Hi johnhb2,
To import photos from your iPad into your Windows computer, I would suggest that you use the steps in this article -
iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
Note that by default the pictures are placed in the “My Pictures” folder. Once imported you can see your photos there and use whatever application you want to view or manage them.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best,

• Possible to resize pic according to own width and height ratio?

Hi there
Usually when resizing (or exporting) a picture, iPhoto automatically chooses an appropriate combination of width and height for us. For example, if I wanted to reduce the width to 320 pixels, iPhoto automatically updates the height to 240, making the resized pic to be 320x240.
However, I need to resize a picture to become 300x300. How can I do that? When I type in 300 for width, iPhoto keeps automatically putting the height as 225, making the picture 300x225, but I need 300x300. Is there a way to manually choose how I want to resize the pic?
Thanks in advance.

teriyip:
What you need to do before exporting is to crop to the size ratio, in this case square. Then you can put in 300 in one dimension field and the other will come in at 300 also. There's a square option in the Constrain menu.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

• Problem exporting pics from Lightroom 2.7 to PS 5.1

I need some help!
When I installed PS 5.1 on my new computer, I began working on
pictures from a recent shoot. I start with camera RAW in Lightroom then export to PS 5.1
. I have not had a problem before, but must have
gotten my settings wrong or something. Exporting works great,
no problems. But when I go into
PS 5.1 to tweak them, they look entirely different. Example: The vignette I added in LR looks 'streaked/not smooth' in PS. Also the skin doesn't look smooth.
What have I done wrong? Why is it looking weird in PS? Thank you for your help! I've got to finish these pics and can't figure it out.

I don't use PS much, but I remember that if the percentage zoom isn't some nice value like 50% or 33.33%, etc., the image looks "rough". So that may be your problem. How does the photo look if you look at it 1:1?
What are the values set in your Preferences/External Editing for PS CS5?

• Do I need to resize pics?

I'm about to upload a ton of pics to my website. I'm simply going to drag them from iPhoto to iWeb.
I got a new Cannon xti and took almost 1,000 pics on vacation. I'm probably going to put about 300 of those on the website eventually.
Each pic is about 2-4 megs in size each. I used the process multiple files in Elements 4.0 to cut them by approx 1/2 size to about 1-2 megs each.
Do I need to make a separate folder and then further resize and use more jpeg compression to make them reasonable for a website experience,
-or-
does iWeb automatically compress/resize them so that they are optimized for the web?
Tips on managing photos would be appreciated.

Kraftsims:
When adding photos to an iWeb photo page, they are resized to 800 x 600 pixels for the slideshow. You don't have to do any pre-resizing, iWeb does it all automatically.
If you add a photo to a non-photo page in iWeb, it's best to resize it to the exact size you want it to be displayed before hand. You can use Resize! to do that for you. Just select the pixel dimensions and 72 dpi for the resolution. When you add the photo to a page it might get resized by iWeb and have a border around it. If you want to keep the image as a jpg and not have it converted to a png file, go to the Inspector/Graphics pane and under the Stroke menu select none and turn off the shadow. Then in the Metrics pane of the Inspector click on the Original Size button.
If you add a border and shadow or resize the photo in iWeb it will be converted to a png file for uploading and display. Some PCs with older broswers may have trouble with that type of file. To check out how PCs might see the site go to http://ipinfo.info/netrenderer/ and past your site's url into the space provided. It will then show you how it may be seen by the PC with different browsers.

• Photo Stream does not sync when I export pics from Lightroom to Uploads folder.

I am using a PC. When I export pics from Adobe Lightroom to the "Uploads" folder iCloud does not sync with my phone. If I export pics from Adobe Lightroom to any other folder and then move them to the "Uploads" folder everything works like it should. Is this an iCloud glitch or is this me? Thanks in advance.

Updating PhotoStream automatically after making changes to pictures in Aperture is something I'd be interested in as well. As far as I know, this can't be done right now. Has anybody come up with a work around for the moment?
Thanks!

• Windows in Photoshop CS2 doesn't show outline when being resized

When I resize the photo image, I loose the outline which matches the workspace color. How to I change the outline color?

Do you have the nView Desktop Manager enabled?
(right click on your desktop to see if nView Desktop Manager is listed)
If you do you might try turning it off, and then restarting windows xp and see if that makes a difference.
If that's not it or you don't have nView, then perhaps some other utility on your system is modifying the windows behaviour.
Added:
If you have an older display driver it might be under NVIDIA Display when you right click on the desktop.

• WinXP: Resize pic for digital photo frame with PS Elements

PS Elements 5
Preloading a small memory card for a photo frame to be given for holiday gift. Not familiar with these frames.
This Digital Photo Frame is a 16x9 aspect, 800x480 pixels.
In PS Elements, I crop each pic to 16" x 9"
Then resize photo to 800 pixel width, constraining proportions it sets the height at 450 pixels, resolution 72 pixels/in. Seems I am wasting the frame real estate.
Change the crop tool for 15" x 9"
Then resize photo to 800 pixel width, constraining proportions it sets the height at 480 pixels, resolution 72 pixels/in.
Each photo comes to ~ 400k.
Questions:
Which above crop/resize/resolution is best? or alternate?
Will the frame make use of the 400k pics, or should I reduce quality to something less?

<[email protected]> wrote in message
news:[email protected]..
>I would enter 800 px by 480 px in the crop tool, lets you crop and resize
>in one step. • Logic pro 9 Instrument issues/ weird sound occurring!!

Hi guys,
I need some help here, I think I have a big issues here with my logic instruments. I just installed Logic pro 9 about a week ago, it's working fine until...
today when I load some of the Logic instruments (such as EFM 1 Synth, ES2, ES2 syth, or any other sytnh) from the library, there're some kind of strange/weird sound, kind of growling synth sound going on (weeeewww gurrrrrrrrt!), the volume level is also peaking out because of it. I still could play the instruments, but the weird growling sound doesn't stop, & the volume peak out even more!. the only logic instruments that works fine are Evb3 tonewheel organ, Utrabeat & Ev88 Electric piano.
Same things happen with most of my ESX24 instruments ( such as pop horns, guitar, orchestral, etc) weird growling sound (wew grrrrt).
Does anyone know what's happening???
Thank you

Hi Eriksimon,
Yes, indeed the noise stop when I bypass the instrument.
Yes the noise seems to have a steady defined pitch & the character of the noise is the same as the affected instruments.
No I haven't try to load different presets at that time (it freaks me out already!)
No I don't think I've made any tweaks/ adaptation to the environment (could you give me example?).
*But Just now, at this moment, I just try to open & run my Logic 9 again & load the problematic instruments, The Noise's gone, I tried every instrument that has that noise problem (try different presets now) , it works fine, the noise gone (it surprise me). BUT STILL I'm afraid that this noise will occur again.
Do you have any idea ?,
Thank you

• What dpi & quality when resizing pics in PSE for use in PRE?

For use in Premiere Elements 7:
When resizing my digital camera pictures in Photoshop to the reduced sizes 1000 x 750 you recommend when panning & zooming, there are a couple of additional choices.
One asks for the Resolution in dpi. Should it be 600, 300, or less?
The other thing is: Convert files to ??? JPEG max quality or standard or what?
I'm still a beginner at Premiere, so please don't get too technical!
Thanks, Elisabeth.

Do not worry about asking questions.
As for the .PSD's, these are Photoshop's native file format. They are uncompressed, and can contain Layers of several sorts. Now, I do not use PSElements, so do not know how it would differ from the full version of PS that I use. PS also does NOT have a SlideShow feature, so there could be major differences here. [See, you asked a question that I cannot answer!] If PSE does not list .PSD files as sources for SlideShows, then totally disregard my earlier comments on that workflow. I do all of my SlideShows in PrPro, which does Import .PSD's and in more ways, than PrE does.
Now, JPEG is a compressed file format. This means that some of the data is "thrown away," when the file is Saved_As JPEG. How much will depend on the "Quality" settings. The higher the Quality, the less data is discarded. The inverse is also true.
Now, there are two considerations, regarding image files for Video. One applies only to .PSD, and both apply to JPEG. The main one is the Image Size. This will be the horizontal and the vertical sizes in pixels, say 720 (h) x 480 (v). This applies to both (actually to TIFF's, PNG's, GIF's, TGA's, etc, but we're talking about JPEG and PSD only for now) file types, and applies equally. The Quality setting is the degree of compression. Higher Quality = less compression. This is where PSE is saying to use the higher Quality - in the compression settings. PSD files are not compressed, so this does not apply to them.
Hope that this clears things up a bit. I'll try to track down whether PSE can use .PSD files, but if you have the program, you might want to check the Help (F1) files, under File Formats, and also under SlideShows.
Just for clarity sake, here are the "codes" in my post:
PS = Photoshop
PSE = Photoshop Elements
PrPro = Premiere Pro
PrE = Premiere Elements
Good luck,
Hunt
