Weird pauses during download/upload visible on speedtest

Hey Everyone. I'm seeing a weird thing happening when running a speed test over at Speakeasy.net (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Every time I do it I'm seeing several weird pauses during the download & upload. The ball moving across the page stops for a beat and then picks up again. I do not see this happen on my powerbook (wireless) or my pc.
any ideas whats going on? I have a d-link DI-634M router (but it did the same with an old router) and I'm on a high speed cable connection. Also. I'm running 10.4.8
any help would be appreciated.

Hmm, that one account, that helps!
Is the Interface you're connecting with at the top of the list in Network Port Configurations?
If it is, then try trashing...

  • OS X Mavericks has paused during download.

I am attempting to download Mavericks on the my MacBook Pro.   I am currently running 10.6.8.  The icon in the doc indicated that the download was waiting.  This lasted for more than 15 min so I suspected that the process was hung.  I restarted my computer and now the icon indicates that the download has paused.  I am not sure how the "un" pause the download.

I read the helpful hints:  Issue with Mavericks download and resolved my issue by holding the cursor over the dock icon.  This presented a pop up where I clicked on "resume".  All is well.

  • Weird pause during speedtest - Safari Only not FF

I haven't been able to figure out this issue for quite some time.
When testing my connection speed at speakeasy.net/speedtest the flash speedtest will pause/freeze for a second or 2 and continue in mid test.
This does not happen on my wifes machine. It also happens when I switched service providers to FIOS (which is amazing by the way).
When I run the same test in Firefox I do not have the pause.
See an example of this from my previous provide (fios is 4x faster than this). Also ignore the SNAPZPRO demo watermark.

what would cause this in Safari but not in FF?
    Anyone?

if safari works fine on your wifes mac then it is pretty clear that the issue is with safari on your mac, to troubleshoot this issue you will need to try from a new user account, reset safari
best to try reset safari first
f it works fine in a new user account issue is with your user account and need to try trashing

  • Pause during download

I tried to download OS X Lion.
Unfortunately, during the process, the wifi connexion has been interrupted.
Now, the wifi connexion is OK but I read (above the Lion icon appearing in the Dock) : "OS X Lion - en pause"
What can I do to restart the process ?
    Thanks for your help

Hi Brett and welcome to Apple Discussions,
This has always been a problem with folder actions, even before Automator came along. Your solution is one way round, but as you probably recognise it's a bit hit and miss.
Another commonly suggested solution when using AppleScript folder actions is to get the size of the original file and loop until the size of the copied file is the same before running the rest of the action.
I wouldn't fancy trying to do that in an Automator workflow, but it could be done with AppleScript.

  • A file paused during download now appears in Launchpad.  How to remove?

The Software updater offered 3 items to upgrade.  After it started I paused one of them - I couldn't stop that one altogether.  Now the paused file appears, as paused, in the Launchpad.  I can't find the file-in-progress in download folder or elsewhere.
How can I remove this, and clean up Launchpad's display?

If you click and hold on the icon of the paused download does it jiggle and display a cross in the corner. If so, click on the 'x' to delete it.

  • Greetings, I have been trying to download Lion but unfortunately in pauses during download and will not continue.  All of the specs seem to be in line for what is needed to download. thanks

    Hello
If anyone has any info on downloading Lion would be greatly appreciated.  The download is in a constant state of pause.  I cannot get it out of the pause phase into active download.  Anyone having similar trouble?
    thx

See if either of these two things help.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.

  • Recover apps that i deleted from app list - it was paused during download

Hi, I had just updated to OSX 10.9 (works great) but had a Mavericks download ready for installation in my App Store "Purchases" list.  I started the download in my purchases list because I wanted to create a USB startup disk of Mavericks.
What I then did was pasue the download to check on things and when I wanted to continue with the download I accidently deleted the puchased app of Mavericks from my App List.   The OSX logo in Launchpad is shaded and showing that it is "Paused".
Can you please let me know how I can get the Mavericks download back into my Purchased List so I can continue with the download "or" tell me how I can remove the pasued item in Launchpad.
    Thanks,

Found answer to my own problem.  Went into App Store account and was able to unhide the application I accidently deleted.  Worked just fine

  • Changed radio mode to 5 ghz using AirPort Utility, but download/upload speeds are unchanged.

I'm using both a Macbook that is 5 ghz compatible as well as an Airport Extreme that is able to transmit 5 ghz. When I switched my radio mode from 2.4 ghz to 5 ghz and ran speed tests, the download speed was at 2.7 mbps each time...in other words, switching to 5 ghz made no increase in my download/upload on the speedtest. Is there a reason for this?
Does the speed of my internet have an effect on how fast my wireless can transmit?
    Thanks!

People have been talking about how their internet speeds have increased dramatically with the use of the 5GHz option.
Unfortunately, they don't have the correct facts that they need. As John says, your Internet connection speed is limited by your ISP.  Even the slower 2.4 GHz "g" speed on your router is likely much faster than your Internet connection will allow, so having even higher speed capability with 5 GHz on your network buys you nothing as far as the Internet connection speed is concerned.
Simply stated, a router cannot "speed up" the Internet connection. That is controlled by your ISP. If you need faster Internet connection speeds, you need to check with your ISP about a faster....and more expensive....plan.
Where 5 GHz can help is on a local network between devices. Say, you want to copy a file from one computer to another, or from a computer to a hard drive over the wireless. In this case, 5 GHz will allow the data to transfer at a higher, faster rate than a 2.4 GHz connection.
The result is that it will take less time for the file transfer to occur using 5 GHz on your local network.

  • Oprah podcasts still pause during playback

Quite a while ago I asked about the weird hesitation during playback of any of the Oprah podcasts, but, although several people reported having the same experience, no one had an answer.
Well....thought I'd bring the subject up again and see if there was any answer to why this is happening, and how to correct it.
Basically, after about 20 minutes into any of the podcasts offered by Oprah's soul series, my iPod will lock up and pause for a while. Nothing can force the iPod out of this mode while it's paused... you just have to wait until, whatever is happening, finishes. As the program progresses, these pauses occur more frequently and the duration of the pause increases as well (sometimes lasting for a minute or longer).
BTW, the podcasts play fine, without hesitations, on iTunes within any Mac...only when played thru an iPod does this occur.
Of course, all other music, and podcasts, play back normally, without pauses.

I've identified two different Oprah Podcast series, I assume you are referring to the *Oprah.com Spirit Channel* (also known as *Oprah's Soul Series* ) with episodes: Kathy Freston from 18th August and Rodger Kamenetz from 26th August, is that correct?
If so, I notice that there are audio-only Podcasts & video Podcasts, so we need to know which episode types are causing the problem, audio, video-small screen or video-large screen. I'm currently downloading (as I write) the episode *Rodger Kamenetz part 1 - small screen* as a test. Are you trying to play the large-screen versions of the videos on your iPod?

  • Weird problem during synchronization !!!??

    Hi all
I came accross a weird problem during synchronization. I am into customizing MAM2.5, and in testing phase. I created 600 local measurement documents and tried to sync. Nearly half of the documents got successfully posted at the back end and got deleted from the hand held. Nearly 250 documents were not posted and it stays in the hand held. On multiple synchronization also it is not getting moved but it says "synchronization successfully completed". The state in the upload syncBO (040) shows the state of these documents as "S" that corresponds to synchronized documents.
any of you had come accross this problem?? any thoughts??
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
Now that a new development, If the device was restarted manually please do a client data reset. Settings-> client data reset.
I know you have tried doing this before but I want you to check the following.
This will ensure that the data in the client and the middleware are consistent.
Check the MEREP_MON when you perform the first sync.
Download requests must be sent from the client to the middleware (They will be in I-Finished status after processing) and the response will be found in O-Waiting. When you perform the sync the second time all the data is sent to the client. Now the data in the client and the server are in-sync. Now if you change any data and sync the data should be sent to the middleware.
If it still doesnt work your only option is to reinstall MI on the device and start from scratch.
    Let me know.
    Best Regards,
    Karthik

I’m in Queens N.Y. area, The way I see it Verizon Fios has OVER PROVISIONED, OVER SOLD their own network and switches are overloaded with bandwidth that can't handle. So they throttle down everyone’s speed, on the local Central office hub. As the hour of the day 7PM the speed is being gradually being slowed down to about 7Mbps for me.
As the hour approaches I have been running tests between a few servers transferring large files for a few hours, my results were: as the hour approaches the speed gradually decreases until it’s caped at 7Mbps. but the upload speeds are unaffected. It’s like Fios provisioned download speed is exhausted. PC directly connected with a CAT6 1Gigabit LAN cable to ONT. So the bottle neck is the central office

  • G4 times out during downloads

My G4 times out during Software updates. I only have dial-up and computer times out after about 2 hrs. I then have to start all over again to try to download. Is there a download that will let me resume where it left off. Ex. a security update of 80 mb. times out around 50 mb. Please help if possible , I need these updates.

There are a few browsers out there which can resume the failed download
and not have to start over from the beginning; of course, since I've been
lucky lately, and my standard Firefox 3.0.16, Safari 4.0.2, Opera, & Camino
appear to work OK and not time-out, I am not sure if these offer that feature.
Most can pause a download and cancel it, too; before it is done.
The Safari browser (not sure if the feature is an option or plugin) is said to
be able to support the resume interrupted downloads function. The part of
the browser known as the 'download manager' in the download window is
often part of the key to resuming downloads if they are interrupted. See an
example of this as shown here. It should be familiar:
    http://www.askdavetaylor.com/howto_resume_interrupted_download_apple_safarifirefox.html
Also, Cyberduck, a freeware browser for several platforms, offers this
function as part of its standard fare. Cyberduck: http://cyberduck.ch/
Under its Advanced Transfers feature, the promo write up says it can
resume both interrupted download and uploads. It is a 12MB D/L file.
Perhaps there is a dialup setting you can use to extend the time
sessions, so it won't time-out as fast.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Error "A web exception has occurred during file upload" when trying to import ESXi image file into Update Manager

I'm encountering this error and not sure how to fix, I'm quite new to vCenter so please bear with me.
I'm trying out vCenter 5.1 with Update Manager 5.1 right now.  No license key has been entered and I still have 50 odd days to try it out.
2 ESXi hosts are being managed by this vCenter, and they're both running ESXi 4.0
I'm looking to use Update Manager to try to upgrade the ESXi 4.0 hosts to ESXi 5.1
I downloaded the image file VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso from VMWare website, and is looking to import it using the Update Manager so I can update the ESXi hosts, but I keep on getting the error:
    File name:     VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso
    Failed to transfer data
Error was: A web exception has occurred during file upload
I tried importing it by using vSphere client to connect to vCenter server both remotely and locally, with firewall disabled.
    I've read http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1026602
I've disabled firewall, and there is no anti-virus program on the server.  I've also restarted the machine several times, to no avail, I didn't reinstall update manager because the whole Windows and VCenter installations are clean from scratch.
I logged into the vSphere Client using Active Directory credentials, and I've made all Domain Admins (which my account is a member of) part of the administrator group on the vCenter server. I can't log in using admin@System-Domain because it tells me I don't have permissions for it, I still haven't really had the chance to figure out why that is and not sure if that makes a difference.
Also, I'm fairly certain I'm using the right image file, as I've burned some DVD's used that image file to upgrade some other ESXi hosts.  Unless there's a special image file I need to download?
I'm at lost on what I can do to make it work.  Please advise.
    Thanks.

The ISO file you mentioned is the one for vCenter Server. What you need is the "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.1.0-799733.x86_64.iso" (or VMware-VMvisor-Installer-201210001-838463.x86_64.iso) for the ESXi host.

  • HT4943 Error during download - I keep getting this error message when installing or updating apps

I subscribed to wired magazine and I am trying to download the first mag, however I keep getting an error message stating "error during download, try again later". I also get an error message when trying to resume paused updating of apps. I've tried turning ipad2 off and then on again but this doesn't  work. Can anyone help?

There are all basic troubleshooting steps that have worked for other users in the past that were having problems downloading and updating apps. YMMV .....
Tap one waiting icon only if necessary to start the download stream.
You can also try deleting the waiting icons - tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles - the tap the X on the icon to delete it. Then try to download again.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again.
