Permissions repair complete

They will never be fixed since they are not errors. The Permissions database has changed but has not been updated by Apple.

When you see one of these with an l in front of the Permissions (a symlink) even if it's not on the list, just ignore it. You can also generally ignore any Permissions errors that return even after "Repairing."

No. What is true is that there are no viruses currently affecting OS X.

If it is not complete, delete it (using the delete icon)
If it is complete, but not posted, incomplete and delete (using the delete icon)
If it is complete and posted you can't delete as transactions have gone to GL, so create a credit memo to effectively reverse it out.

  • How to save my bookmarks in a protected folder(google has an add on for favorits which will never be deleted) in case of harddisk format or computer crashdown?

how to save my bookmarks in a protected folder(google has an add on for favorits which will never be deleted) in case of harddisk format or computer crashdown.

The built-in Firefox Sync service allows you to store your settings, including bookmarks, on a Mozilla server. This isn't accessible as a file like Google Drive; it can only be used by connecting another copy of Firefox to your Sync account. You can read more about this here: [[How do I set up Firefox Sync?]] (I haven't tried it myself since it changed recently.)
The cross-browser Xmarks service is more focused: it just does bookmarks. http://www.xmarks.com/ (I've never tried this one either)
If you prefer working with files and you have a Dropbox or similar account, you could in theory back up your Firefox profile folder, or more particularly, the bookmarkbackups subfolder. I haven't tried that myself. To find the folder:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
A window should launch showing your currently active settings files. The bookmarkbackups folder should contain dated .json files which can be used to restore your bookmarks to another copy of Firefox.
Alternately, someone might have created an add-on for saving Firefox bookmarks to the cloud another way, but I haven't heard of one.

  • Firefox opens automatically with two tabs, one of which will never close and can't be used, how can I fix this issue?

I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.8 and Firefox 5.0.1
I have had this issue for a while and was hoping that the newest release would solve my problem, it didn't. I looked online for solutions, none of which fixed the issue
*Some pointed the finger at the extension Invisible Hand, which I never had.
*Some suggested putting Firefox into safe mode, this solves the problem, but since it stops me from installing any extensions this is not a workable solution.
*It was advised that I create a new profile, which I tried, this did absolutely nothing, the blank page appeared again after a short period of time and still can't be closed or clicked on, and this was before I added any add-ons. Which leads me to believe that the issue lies with Firefox.
Though on a side note when I quit Firefox, with only my current tab and the "tab that can't be closed" still open, Firefox notices that there are two tabs open and warns me that I am going to be closing both. The only work around I have found is to set the "tab that can't be closed" as an app tab for the current session, but when I open Firefox the next time, the app tab which was the "tab that can't be closed" can now be closed and a new "tab that can't be closed" appears as if it were a new blank tab, just like every other time I open Firefox.

I started in safe Mode. I have the default theme. Starting in safe mode still gave me the same problem. I went back to the normal Firefox and still had the same problem. Yesterday I restarted my computer for 11 Windows updates. I am not going to spend all day starting and restarting my computer and removing my History and whatever else. Firefox should have a direct contact to it's users, to assist them instead of having their users work for them as forum responders and trouble shooters. This has already taken up way too much of my time.
I will say in normal Firefox the additional NEW TAB had no URL in it, but it did have the 12 icons on the page. In Safe Mode it had a URL that began with Chrome and it had a blank page, it didn't have the 12 icons as in normal mode. I don't have anything Chrome on my computer.

  • Permissions NEVER get Repaired...

I run DISK UTILITY and "verify permissions" then do "repair permissions".
If I run Disk Utility again (immediately afterwards) there is a whole list permissions to be repaired again.
So I did "repair" and rebooted the iMac.
Launch Disk Utility... Again, a long list of fixes.
All of the issues are this:
    SYSTEM/LIBRARY/core services...
    SYSTEM/LIBRARY/framework...
    SYSTEM/LIBRARY/remote management...
This is a recent issue. I'm thinking that one of the kids may have downloaded something buggie, a website, etc...
    Any ideas?

    OS 10.6.8
    Thanx

Fret not - the apparently unrepaired stuff is due to DU not being 'informed' that the items have been moved, usually during updates. As long as the message at the end of the list says "permissions repair completed" there's nothing to worry about.

  • HT4623 Lost all my data to this update. stuff i will never get back. not happy.

Just did the new update and upon finishing, i got an error msg, -1 or something and it said my phone could not be update, which doesnt really worry me. But to even get my phone back working i had to restore it, Because all i had was the plug in symbol.
Well i restored my phone, lost all my music, because i manage mine manually, also lost all my PDF files that i had stored in my ibook.
So end of the day. im ****** off. and annoyed with these updates that we get that pretty much 50% of the time, screw you over.

Your Mac is well equipped to take care of your files, Time Machine is solid, and you already have it.
Mac Family Tree have done you a disservice, no doubt. AutoSave would have been nice if it had worked. But you compounded it by making no backup provision. Your data is important to you, not MFT, it is a wise choice to take care of safeguarding it rather than relying on them.
I feel for you, it's not a good way to learn just how important backup is.

  • I have an older macbook, OS X 10.5.8. Am I just going to have to face the fact that I will never get my itunes on my new iphone?

I just upgraded to the iphone 5 and I am incredibly frustrated that my Macbook can't update itunes anymore which means I can't put music, pictures, or anything on my iphone. To be honest, it'd be easier to take the phone back than to pay for a new computer. Is there anything I can do before I just give up and take it back, or am I just stuck with a 16gb iphone that can't hold any of my music unless I buy it all?

Purchase Snow Leopard and install it, then upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, and you'll be all set with your iPhone 5.

  • HT4641 I emailed my document in word format I tried it 3 times now my iPad is stuck in a loop continuously sending the document which is never getting there

How do I stop the endless loop it is eating up capacity for normal email send receive functions

Sometimes a cold re-start is necessary.
On your iPad double click your Home button to reveal all apps that are running in the background.
Tap and HOLD on the Mail icon until it wiggles and displays a "-" button then tap on the "-" to turn OFF Mail (I recommend shutting all apps off at this point).
Then, click and HOLD the Home Button and the Sleep Button until the Shutdown dialogue appears.
Swipe to shutdown then wait about 10-15 seconds and restart your iPad.
Open your Mail app and navigate to your mail account locate the Drafts Folder and delete the offending mail document and try again.

When I repair my permissions, this never gets repaired.  Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Also, can anyone tell me why my disk permissions are constantly being changed?

It's a recurring message. It's innocuous and of no concern. It is the result of the ARD installation you did. Just ignore it.

  • Is "Broadcast Safe" necessary if the output will never be broadcast?

I'm doing a project whose final output will be a set of DVD's which will never be broadcast. I really like the color look I've achieved for my clips, but when I check my scopes, they're outside broadcast safe, both up and down. If the output will never be broadcast, do I need to adjust these for broadcast safe?
Also, to get the best for the output, which settings for YUV, etc. should I use to have the DVD's match what I'm seeing in FCP?
Just a bit of additional information, I'm making the assumption that most if not all of the ultimate viewers of the project will be viewing it on modern HD sets. Does that also make a difference to my final output settings?
    Thanks.

You must view FCP's output on a calibrated, professional broadcast monitor to assess the "look".
Computer monitors do not provide a true indication of how your movie will appear on a consumer television.
Try to find two consumer televisions that are accurately and identically adjusted. It is very unlikely.
While there is some degree of tolerance and there's not much chance of you blowing up someone's TV these days, you should at least use the "Normal" settings in the broadcast safe filter.
As an example. whites and yellows that are too bright can "crossover" and cause an annoying buzzing sound in the audio as well as being unpleasant to look at.

  • HT201250 After Time Machine has backed up my files, can I delete my originals from my Mac and do something in Time Machine to ensure it will never automatically delete them from the backup in the future?

I'm new to using Time Machine - I'm making my first backup right now - and I have a few concerns.
So let's say my precious photos are taking up most of my Mac's hard drive space. I back them up with Time Machine on an external hard drive. After that, I want to delete my photos from my Mac because I want more space and my photos are now stored in the external hard drive. I have a few questions about that.
First, does Time Machine's backup system follow the same concept as having extra storage (so would this be a reasonable decision to make)?
Second, if it does, then could I access/open these photos from Time Machine's backup anytime I want?
Third, would I need to use the restore backup function of Time Machine every time I want to open my photos are there alternative ways of accessing my photos, like through opening directory paths to the photos?
Lastly, when the external hard drive becomes full and Time Machine wants to delete my oldest backup files, what can I do to ensure that these photos will never get deleted unless I manually do it? Like, is there a way to lock and secure these files? Or, is it like if these photos are the only copies saved in the backup, I can rest assure that Time Machine will never delete them?
    Thanks

Since my new external hard drive is have a lot of space, I'm thinking of splitting it for Time Machine and external storage.
This is a common mistake and I highly advise against it.
1: TimeMachine saves states of changes and thus requires more room on the TM drive than the boot drive it's backing up.
2: Something happens to the TM drive, loss, theft, dropped, power surge, etc., you lose both backups.
3: The storage drive might become a portable need, with it being on the TM drive, now your increasing the risk to the TM backup that something could happen to it along with the storage drive, due to increased movement.

  • Shows "space background", but never get any further in install

So I, just got my copy of Leopard today, but I can't use it!
I am trying to install it, and it shows a grey screen for a couple of seconds, then the screen shows the main space background theme. It never asks for languages, and I can hear the HD spin every now and then (like it's trying to do something), but the installation will never get past the screen.
I've tried everything I could think of: I put my original Apple Drive back in, disconnected all devices (except keyboard and mouse, airport) and have tried booting several times. It is not a hardware issue, as it never says anything, I have a 1.66GHz G5, >1GB RAM and I don't know whats going on here. Please help!
    -Parker

I am having the same issue. I am in the 10.4.10 - drop in the Leopard disc and click the "Install" icon. It asks me to restart and I type in my password. It restarts and then comes up to the "cosmic" screen and stops.
The next thing would be making a language selection and it doesn't get that far.
I know about the language selection screen because I used this same Family Pack Leopard DVD to install it on my Mac Book (2.0GHz with 2GB Ram).
I let the Power Mac sit for a LONG time and it does nothing.
I have tried it with the Bluetooth keyboard and mouse keyboard away from the machine and a wired version of each (the only way to get the DVD out by the way is using the wired mouse).
I am going to try some other things (unhooking everything else - printer, etc...), but this doesn't seem right.
Again, Power Mac Quad Core Intel box, with 2GB Ram, 5 internal hard drives (4 raided and installing to the 5th) with nothing else really special (upgraded graphics card, but it was from the factory).
I'm not happy since I took it upon myself last night to buy the Family Pack of Leopard, iLife '08 and iWork '08. $400 for nothing at this point since I don't want to install more software on my machine until this upgrade goes well.
Ideas? Apple - if you're listening, PLEASE pay attention to your computers and take a break from the iPhone for 5 minutes. I know it's making you a ton of money - but come on!

  • Verify & Repair Disk Permissions never get completed

I tried so many times on Verify Disk Permission, and Repair as well, however, both never get to complete the whole scanning process. I don't know what to do with it... Please help!!!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    Hi KM, et al,
I have a silly suggestion. Maybe if you corrected permissions by hand, it would fix the problem. Try the following commands:
    sudo chmod 644 /usr/share/man/man1/more.1
    sudo chown root:wheel /usr/share/man/man1/more.1
You must execute the command as a system administrator and when prompted for a password, give the admin's password. I'm not sure what effect that will have though. /usr/share/man/man1/more.1 and /usr/share/man/man1/less.1 are actually hard links to the same file. On my system, changing one changes the other, which I don't believe is POSIX compliant. (but I haven't looked that up) Maybe that's one of the anomalies of linked files on HFS+ filesystems. However, I'm able to make the change on my system so it's certainly worth trying.
I don't really know what's happened to your systems but it's certainly not something that should cause you to reinstall. At the very worst, you should be able to get a single copy of the file and recreate the links. The first step is to figure out what state your systems are in. What do you get when you execute the following command:
    ls -l /usr/share/man/man1/more.1 /usr/share/man/man1/less.1
It would be most useful if you post the output you get before you try the fix in my previous paragraph.
