Weird problems that make my iPod unusable

So I've had my iPod about 6 months now, and just recently I've been having issues with it. A couple weeks ago it mysteriously wouldn't turn on. I tried the 5 R's, tried everything I could think of and let the battery drain as a last resort. I put it in the refridgerator for a couple days and let it sit for like 4 days after that. It ended up working again just fine. (By the way, the temp in the fridge was well within environmental standards for the product.) At least I thought it was just fine. I did notice that when I turned it on, either sometimes or all of the time--I didn't pay close enough attention--it would pop right on and not display the Apple logo for a few seconds. This made me think that somehow when I was turning it off, it was just going to sleep or something instead? Just a thought.
Anyway, last night I was listening to my iPod in bed before going to sleep. I turned it off, then tried to turn it back on a minute later and it would not. I tried restarting it, but instead of displaying the apple logo and working again, the screen flickered for a millisecond and shut off again. This happened nearly every time I tried restarting it. This morning I plugged it into my computer and it wouldn't show up. Once, when I plugged it in, I got a pop-up on my screen saying it detected a new USB device and that I needed to install the drivers. I put the iPod CD in and it wouldn't work, so I gave up on that. This afternoon I randomly hit the button on the ipod and it turned on. However, the batter was almost completely drained, even though it was full last night and I obviously wasn't using it since then.
Just now, I tunred it on, off, and now it will not turn on again. It does the same screen-flicker kind of thing.
Note that today after it started working again, I took the opportunity to restore the iPod and re-upload my songs. I thought that might stop the bugs. Apparently it has not. I have the newest version of iTunes. As far as I know, the iPod has suffered no trauma.
Well, I've done my best to fully describe my problems. Please, someone help me if you can. I can't really send it in as broken because it seems to randomly work. I really thought restoring it would work... Anyway, thank you for reading and for any help you may be able to give.

Im having the same problem with my 30gb 5G Ipod! Tried the 5Rs and the weird thing is that some times it just start to work fine! Unfortunately the last time it didnt.
I already tried the disk mode thing and the disk mode works for 10 secs (its not a battery issue, right?) then it keeps looping into the Apple logo over and over again.
Im already getting mad cuz I did not backup and I dont want to lose all my files!
Since I live in Brazil its almost impossible to send it to support before my warranty expires. =/
So what am I supposed to do? Help me!!

Apple would have to strip so many features out of iOS 7 to make it work on your iPod that about all you'd have would be iOS 6 with different icons. So as the others have said, this is not going to happen. If you want iOS 7, you'll need a newer iPod.

  • Weird problem with my 3G iPod

    Hi,
I have a 3rd generation iPod and I'm having a weird weird problem with it.
For some odd reason, whenever I try to play a song, my iPod resets completely. I can scroll and look at my songs, but once I start playing it, the iPod stops and resets, as if I did the "play/menu button press" procedure.
I cant hear 1 song, even though I have a few hundred in the iPod.
Also, whenever I connect it to the computer, the computer does not see it and The "Do not disconnect" icon appears on the iPod for like 3 seconds and then goes away.
Does anyone know the problem and how I can fix it?

    Hello,
Try restoring your iPod (through the iPod Updater). If you can't get it to restore, then try these steps:
Eject your iPod from computer (for now).
    Close Updater and iTunes programs.
    Restart the computer.
Put your iPod into disk mode.
Connect your iPod to your computer again.
See if the iPod Updater recognizes your iPod
Or, if you are still having issues restoring, try doing the other Five R's:

If you are on Windows, have you tried checking out this article?

  • I'm having this weird problem that I have never experienced before.

So, my charger isn't charging my Macbook Pro. Yet, under the battery thing on the toolbar it says "Power Source: Power Adaptor" so it's showing the charger is working just fine. And its not showing the orange light at all, but when I take the plug off of my computer it shows the orange light yet its not even connected and the percentage is 6% so its not adding to the charge (and luckily not decreasing the battery level). So, how can I fix this problem? Anybody experience something like this?

Either the Charger or battery is going bad, as you may have guessed. You can try an SMC & PRAM to see if those help, but aside of that... SMC: SHIFT-CONTROL-OPTION-Power and pressed and let go at the same time. PRAM: OPTION-COMMAND-R-P hold these and turn on the computer but keep these held down until you hear the startup sound twice.

  • Iphone 4, having a weird problem /: can't seem to fix it!

So i have been having my iphone for a while, i have no warranty on the phone now. I have this weird problem that when i scoll down my messages and stuff i can see the outline of the message kind of show rainbowish colors that sort of show a bit when i scroll, right near the border of the message. its kind of annoying at times, also there are times when i press the home button, right when i get to my wallpaper, the outline of the letters when i text are there like very very faint, they disappear after for a while but then come back sort of like a glitch, and i cant fix it at all. then i would see faint horizontal lines, i would notice them when i use the camera, they disappear also. can anyone help me with this or suggest something?

Screen lag is normaly the LCD itself. But try restoring the iPhone. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Are there any apps that make it now possible to scroll with Mountain Lion ?

I just gave up on a project that required me to be able to scroll through a Senate bill. I'll probably go back, but it just shouldn't be so difficult, so painful. and I'm not talking about the bill's language. No, it's just Apple's decision to do away with the USEABLE search arrows that existed before Mountain Lion, and, yes, I know that you can use the little up and down triangles--sometimes--for this purpose.  I have written to Apple about this on more than one occasion, but I never felt that this would do any good. Anyway, I came here to see if anyone knows of an app that has been developed to overcome this strange, almost malicious, behavior of Apple's. Are there any apps I can use on my iMac for scrolling? If not why not? I know I have a lot of company in my disgust with Apple's behavior, so I have to there is some prohibitively difficult problem that makes such a fix impossible. Is that the reason why no one has come to the rescue of Apple's suffering customers?

For very long documents in PDF or on a web page, I just lean on the space bar for big jumps (Shift-spacebar goes up), or on the down arrow keys for short scrolling. If I'm on my laptop, the trackpad provides both large jumps and fine control. If I'm on my desktop, I love my scroll wheel mouse.
In apps like Word, you can't scroll with the spacebar because you need it to type spaces, so I just use the Page Up/Page Down keys. On short Mac keyboards you press Fn+Up Arrow or Fn+Down Arrow to page up/down.
There are so many more and better ways to scroll now compared to the 1980s when the only way was to click-click-click over and over again on stupid scroll arrows. If it stopped scrolling it meant you had to re-aim the mouse because the mouse slipped a little and the arrow is no longer hitting the arrow. If you wanted to scroll up, you had to move the mouse quite a ways because the arrows were on opposite ends of the bar. Scroll arrows were the worst and least efficient way to scroll and I don't miss them at all.
I'm glad we have so many superior alternatives now where, unlike scroll arrows, you don't even have to look at the screen to scroll quickly and accurately. Today, the only good use for a scroll bar is to tell you how far you are through the document.

  • Weird problems with ipod classic 80gb, hdd's gone?

Hi, hope u could help me.
Excuse my not fluent english, I'm not british/american so I will try to make myself as clear as possible. Thanks
First of all, got iPod classic 80gb, systems Vista/XP, was trying to cope with this problem on both computers, but ran out of ideas, so decided to make a topic on Apple forum.
Few days ago my iPod was working fine, then I put some stuff on it (put them in 'Notes', using iPod as a pendrive) and weird things started to happen. Maybe it has something to do with it, don't know, but will try to write as many details as possible.
When I connect my iPod to the computer (i tried on 3 computers), every time my Windows doesn't recognize an iPod (computer sees something has been connected, but doesn't see what). So if I go to 'Computer' I even do not see an iPod disc.
I can't open iTunes when iPod is connected, but once I disconnect my iPod, iTunes opens immediately. If I open iTunes before connecting an iPod, iTunes works fine but it can't see an iPod as well. (I used an option with checking connection with iPod but it sees nothing unfortunetely).
Later, when I want to disconnect my iPod using 'safe remove hardware' it doesn't work, just hangs.. so I have to unplug my iPod and once I do it, it immediately appears 'USB xxxxx now can be disconnect safely' (something like that, very similiar to the iTunes case).
When I disconnect my iPod, it just hangs showing 'Connected, do not disconnect', sth like that, so I got to restart it and then works fine.
My iPod works fine without connecting to the computer, everything is just fine.
Any ideas? Already tried to reset settings on iPod and tried to re-install iTunes, but I guess problems lays somewhere beetween iPod and computer which doesn't see my iPod.. Also I tried to re-install USB slots/drivers, didn't help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers, Robert.

When I had Windows XP on a Lenovo, I also had a U2 20Gb iPod...The problem was, believe it or not, the battery! I took it to ipodrepair in Toronto, and they said there was some servo or switch that was blown. It couldn't charge properly and when it was connected to the computer, it went into limbo - not able to charge, not able to load the ipod.
So, check with repair if you can...It may be the battery, even on a new one!
    Good Luck!

  • Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes... getting beyond P/Oed!!!

Computer AND iTunes don't recognize my iPod touch.  Comp thinks it is a camera or something.  iTunes won't bring up devices at all.  I've already uninstalled iTunes and QT and reinstalled after problem that happened when I updated iTunes - updated iTunes completely demolished my computer's ability to recognize the sound card and computer had NO sound at all.  I had to uninstall iTunes, QT, AND my sound card and reinstall them all.  Sound worked fine, but now I can't sync my iPod.  Computer recognizes that "something" is hooked up (thinks it might possibly be a camera) and I get that "open with" window.  In "my computer" it shows that there is an "iPod" connected, but it is pictured as a camera.  In iTunes my username is no longer appearing (although account info is there) and NO devices whatsoever get listed.  There is nothing wrong with my USB ports or cable.  And of course Apple won't help anyone unless you pay them to. ... I am getting beyond P/Oed!!!  You pay hundreds for a product and all you get are headaches with their stupid bug infested software and no support at all.
Can anyone out there help me clean up this unbelievable mess Apple and iTunes has created in my computer?
    Thank you.
    Evie

After three completely wasted days trying to figure all of this out I finally got it fixed - on my own - by reading dozens and dozens of rogue posts in indie forums from people that refuse to dish out money to have a company TRY and advise possible fixes on their own glitches.
(here's a novel idea - fix the glitches Apple.  Or - don't send out updates filled with bugs in the first place)
Everything (several applications) had to be uninstalled in a very specific order and then restarted , then it all had to be verified with manual deletions of leftovers, and emptying the recycle bin, then another restart, then iT had to be reinstalled again and the system restarted again, and two more update downloads. Holy!!!
I love my little iPod touch, but I honestly must say, when this kind of thing happens (and it has several times now when I try to deal with iTunes or Apple), it makes me want to flush it down the toilet.

  • NFirefox will not allow me to click on a link without switching to another program first. The version is 3.6.8. This problem makes Firefox virtually unusable. Help!

Firefox will not allow me to click on more than one link in a sequence. After one click, I am forced to switch to another active application before returning to Firefox and clicking on another link. I have seen this problem posted by others, but I can't find an answer by Mozilla. Since this problem makes Firefox virtually unusable (version 3.6.8) I would hope that Mozilla would offer an answer ASAP. Until then, I'm stuck with Explorer.

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. If you iPod is defective, within warranty and not abused, Apple will exchange it at no cost.

    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
      - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar

  • Weird Problem With My Ipod. Can you help?

I'm having a weird problem with my ipod and I hope someone here can help. I have a Nano, 4 GB. I got it back in June, so I haven't even had it 6 months yet. Ever since I "updated" the software, it hasn't worked right. It kept freezing on me and saying I had no songs on it. Finally when I reset it through iTunes and loaded brand new songs in it, it froze half way loading. I loaded it for a 3rd time and now it's making a weird alarm sound for no apparant reason. The buttons are stuck and I can't shut it off. It just keeps making this sound and it won't stop. When I reset it by holding menu & select, it resets, is fine for about 20 seconds, then starts back with this alarm. Is there anyone that can help me with this?

    Mine was the similar condition.
When I reset iPod nano by holding menu & select, it resets, is fine for about 20 seconds, then starts back to the screen of black and white state.
    It keeps endless loop.
It happened on the way of iPod nano firmware update to 1.1.1. from 1.0.2.
Instead of completing firmware updated, the above symptom happend in my case.
I could exit the above condition by pressing both of SELECT &
    PLAY button 5-10 seconds long.
    It manually change DISK Mode.
The following subject was useful for me.

  • When are they going to bring out an update that makes ipod work properly?

Every version of iTunes I've had has caused my PC to crash. It still isn't able to convert more than 4 WMA files to Mp3 without crashing, today it decided that I can't drag and drop whole folders, I have to do individual songs, and that's after reinstalling an old version of iTunes because the latest updates for iPod and iTunes made my PC crash over and over (around 10 times before I could actually use it and uninstall the update). If I'm listening to iTunes and I open a webpage with quicktime, *Blue screen* + multiple reboots. When will Apple stop messing about and bring out an update that makes iPod/iTunes actually work?

Did it ever occur to you that the problem might be your computer & not every version of iTunes that has been released to date?

  • My iPod Nano 4G is has weird problems

I have recently found out that a virus has been on my laptop for a while. I didn't know until I scanned my laptop to find it. The problem is with my iPod Nano. I have my iPod Nano for sometime but recently I think there is something wrong with it. I scanned my iPod with AVG to find nothing wrong with it. Everytime I plug my iPod to my computer, the iPod folder would pop up (when I got itunes running also). The iPod folder has weird things I have not seen before.
    1. There is a folder called iPod_Control (I have not seen this folder before) and I want to know if it is suppose to be there because when I removed it, it comes back again after I plug back in. Also the folder is always hidden, don't know why.
    2. The iPod folder have the "date modified" section where it tells when the iPod has been modified. It says date modified 2064 and 2072 which is wrong because it is not even those years yet. So what happened there?
    3. The last thing is a file called .metadataneverindex. I am not sure what that is. I am not a computer expert but I don't think that should even be there. There was another file just like that one under a different name which is not there anymore.
I have restarted my iPod Nano to fix the problem but it did not work. I am not sure if these should be there. I just want answers to my problem.

Whatever you do don't delete those files, however they keep coming back because your iPod needs them.
the folder you didn't see mush have been there when you updated your iPod's software version to 1.0.4.
If you're using windows xp here's how to disable your iPod folder opening everytime you connect it on your computer.
On my computer you'll see your iPod right click it, go to properties-> go to the Autoplay tab-> Every menu i.e. Music Files, Pictures etc. select take no action.
    Then try re-connecting your iPod.
