Weird problems with ipod classic 80gb, hdd's gone?

Hi, hope u could help me.
Excuse my not fluent english, I'm not british/american so I will try to make myself as clear as possible. Thanks
First of all, got iPod classic 80gb, systems Vista/XP, was trying to cope with this problem on both computers, but ran out of ideas, so decided to make a topic on Apple forum.
Few days ago my iPod was working fine, then I put some stuff on it (put them in 'Notes', using iPod as a pendrive) and weird things started to happen. Maybe it has something to do with it, don't know, but will try to write as many details as possible.
When I connect my iPod to the computer (i tried on 3 computers), every time my Windows doesn't recognize an iPod (computer sees something has been connected, but doesn't see what). So if I go to 'Computer' I even do not see an iPod disc.
I can't open iTunes when iPod is connected, but once I disconnect my iPod, iTunes opens immediately. If I open iTunes before connecting an iPod, iTunes works fine but it can't see an iPod as well. (I used an option with checking connection with iPod but it sees nothing unfortunetely).
Later, when I want to disconnect my iPod using 'safe remove hardware' it doesn't work, just hangs.. so I have to unplug my iPod and once I do it, it immediately appears 'USB xxxxx now can be disconnect safely' (something like that, very similiar to the iTunes case).
When I disconnect my iPod, it just hangs showing 'Connected, do not disconnect', sth like that, so I got to restart it and then works fine.
My iPod works fine without connecting to the computer, everything is just fine.
Any ideas? Already tried to reset settings on iPod and tried to re-install iTunes, but I guess problems lays somewhere beetween iPod and computer which doesn't see my iPod.. Also I tried to re-install USB slots/drivers, didn't help.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Robert.

When I had Windows XP on a Lenovo, I also had a U2 20Gb iPod...The problem was, believe it or not, the battery! I took it to ipodrepair in Toronto, and they said there was some servo or switch that was blown. It couldn't charge properly and when it was connected to the computer, it went into limbo - not able to charge, not able to load the ipod.
So, check with repair if you can...It may be the battery, even on a new one!
Good Luck!

  • BMW 335i ipod interface connection problem with ipod classic 80GB

Hi all, i have a 2007 BMW 335i with dealer installed ipod interface, and i been using it since, it's simply i just connect ipod with the cable in the glove compartment and leave it there, and it charges and stanby, when i start up the car the audio jumps right to where i left off on the ipod and it also let me control it with iDrive. after about one and half year of usage, i think there is something wrong with my ipod or i dont know for sure, well here is the problem, when i start the car it will play music from the ipod and i can control it from iDrive and everything but after about 5-10 mins, the music stop, and my iDrive shows weird playlist, and i need to unplug the ipod and replug again to have it connect and then it will stop by itself, after 5-10 mins, any of you guys have a bmw with the ipod interface have this problem?? i dont really know if it's my ipod problem or my bmw ipod interface problem. anyone can help me with this? thank you!

That is most likely going to be a problem with your iPod, not the interface.
Have you tried Resetting the iPod? (hold down the menu and center buttons for six seconds).
If that fails to work, try Restoring the iPod in iTunes.

  • Using Firewire Adapter With iPod Classic 80gb

I have an iPod Classic, 80GB. I have a car adapter that uses a firewire cord. The firewire plugs into the lighter and then the other end plugs into the iPod. Can I use the firewire even though the iPod came with the usb cord? Just wondering as the wall plug adapter that i have has the firewire slot, too.

The firewire plugs into the lighter and then the other end plugs into the iPod.
I'm not sure what you mean by that. No firewire cable I've ever seen plugs into the car's cigarette lighter socket.
What exactly are you trying to do? If you are simply trying to charge the iPod via the lighter socket, then a firewire connection has nothing to do with it.

  • IPod Camera Connector won't work with iPod Classic 80GB?

I am trying to connect my iPod Classic (80GB) to my Canon 40D camera--to upload my images directly from camera to iPod. When I try, I get a message saying "Accessory is not supported." My local Apple store genius said that the iPod connectors only work with older iPods. I find it hard to believe that they'd eliminate such an important capacity on a newer version. Is he right? Or is there a way I can make it work?

I have sent Apple feedback a couple times in the past few years asking for the camera connector to come back and work with the ipod touch. The more people ask, the better.
Is it true that the new version of the SDK will allow apps to access the USB interface of the ipod touch? If that happens, then maybe some third party company can make something similar.

  • Using Video with iPod Classic 80GB

    Hello All,
I am James I am a new user with the iPod, I have a Classic Black Colour, 80GB. So far I use it for muisic, Photos and wanted to watch movies. Does it support movies at all? I put some video clips in mp4 format, itunes converted to a suitable format but then When I watched it, I could only hear it with a picture displayed and no movie loading. Is this normal? or am I doing something wrong?
Another thing is that I don't have a proper user manual? Do you know where I can download one?
    regards
    James

On your iPod go to "Videos / Video Settings".
Then select "TV Out" and either set it to "off" or "ask".
Also, make sure you are accessing the video through the videos menu. If you have a video mixed in an audio playlist and you access it through that, you also won't be able to see the video.

  • [PLEASE HELP!] Problems with iPod Classic 160GB.

Okay, I was about to sync my iPod Classic 160GB and go to bed. I plugged it in and everything was good. I am not sure if it was syncing yet, but it fell off the cord because my HP laptop moved. I wasn't worried at the time, The apple screen came up so I pressed Middle Button+Menu to reset it, then I plugged it back in. When I plugged it back in it said I had to format the drive in G.. The screen of the iPod said Connected Eject before disconnecting and had the circle arrows like when it is loading. It seems to be working fine when I unplug it.
But anyways, When I unplugged it a second time (I did click Disconnect in the toolbar on the actual device, not in iTunes) it didn't work again, and it brought up the grey apple screen again, then went to the language. so I plugged it back in. Then I said OK to the reformat. I clicked Default settings to the format and left the Volume Label blank because I don't know what that is...
It said WARNING: Formatting your iPod will delete all files on it, or something along the lines of that. so, I said okay, I'll just resync it, just get on the reformat. When I clicked format it said that it couldn't format my iPod... So, once again, I disconnected it, ejecting from the actual device in the toolbar, and it was absolutely cleared asking me for the Language. It keeps doing this every time I plug it in, and even when I switch USB slots. it wont read into my iTunes either.
I am really sad, and please answer because my iPod is basically my life, this is my worst nightmare come true.
    PLEASE ANSWER QUICK, Thanks...

  • Unusual syncing problem with ipod Classic

I recently bought a new 160 Gb ipod Classic and the first one that came seemed to sync all my music but as soon as I removed the cable I got an Apple screen and an unresponsive ipod. Eventually Apple swapped it for a second ipod. I found it difficult to get this one to work properly although the hard disk on this one hadn't failed like the first one.
I did have to restore the new ipod at least twice and after the second time I decided not to sync all my music at once as before but selected a few genres to start with and it worked fine so I gradually selected more and more genres each time I synced it until I had all my music on the ipod. So all was fine.
After using the ipod for a couple of weeks or so with this I decided to try and sync the ipod by selecting All the music rather than by genre. As all the music was already on the ipod this didn't take very long to sync. As I normally play the music on random shuffle I selected shuffle and what happened next I've never seen before but the track that was about to be played appeared on the screen but didn't start playing. As I pressed the play button the track wouldn't play but the ipod jumped to the start of the next track and just kept doing that without playing anything.
I then stopped this and decided to sync the ipod as before by selecting all the genres. When this was done the ipod then played normally as before. While this is fine I'd like to be able to sync my ipod by selecting all the music as I've been doing for years with my old ipod Classic 80 Gb. Is there anyone who can explain what might be causing this problem to occur?

Ok here goes, after 6 weeks of restoring, resetting, putting device into manual scan, manually resetting, downloading itunes older versions, newer versions and all around fighting my ipod; I have had the same results. When restoring through itunes the ipod is "still named", now one would think when doing a full system restore on the ipod via itunes it would do a full restore and the name would be no longer existent, so not the case. I have gotten multiple error messages, this is the most prevalent, "The "ipod name" cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified", another is in order for this ipod to work you must restore with itunes. I am thinking that there is problem with the new software, you see yesterday I set up a computer that has XP and itunes 7, the sync went without a hitch, no freezes, no long pauses, no problems. Then I made the mistake of hitting the button to update itunes "newer version", rediculous mistake. All of the problems are as pevalent as before, ipod will not sync, manually I can add movies and music but no more than 264 songs will add. My question is, why did Apple create this very nice, durable large player if they do not have the capability to serve they customers with the correct software?

  • Serious problems with ipod  Classic 30 gb

    hello everyone,
a friend has given me an ipod classic 30gb that is broken to see if I can fix it. It does something that I have never seen ... when I plugged the ipod in to my mac last night it lit up with only 10% luminosity and the message in English that the battery was very low and to not disconnect (the battery level was at about 10% approx.). I left it charging all night and this morning the battery was at 45% approx .. I tried to restart the iPod by following the instructions on the Apple web site (moving the hold switch and then press the center button and menu simultaneously). It then lit up with white apple logo on a black background (luminance 100%) followed by the list of languages to choose from ... BUT ... It won´t let you choose the language or move or reposition the cursor... and then it immediately turns itself off... and then after about 5 minutes, it restarts and shutdowns all over again by itself. but again with no possibility to make any changes in the settings.
Is it just a matter of the battery? Should I leave it charging until 100%? It has been plugged in for about 4 hours more now but doesnt seem to move past the 45% charged signal of this morning.
    Any suggestions, ideas?

Sounds like the ipod is having issues, and it's not able to talk correctly to the processor responsible for the battery charging. It could be indeed a battery issue, but only a professional could tell you...
If you wanted to have someone look at it you can try a service like iResQ.com.

  • Problem with Ipod Classic

    Hello
I have an ipod Classic 160 GB. Recently I had to re-contruct my itunes library. I have synced the library and the ipod 3-4 times. Each time itunes seems to transfer the recordings and podcasts without any difficulties. However, nothing is coming up on the ipod. There are 30-40 60 minute "songs" (lectures and sermons) and 1700 podcasts. Previousy I had 100 plus "songs" and 2700 podcasts. The ipod is telling me now that 148 GB have been used. The ipod must be stacking each sync on top of the previous one.
I am lost. Can anyone help?
    Thank you.
    George

Have you tried plugging it into iTunes again to Sync it again?
    Phil

  • Problems with iPod Classic and iTunes

  • Sync Problems With Ipod and External HDD

Ive just got a new 4G ipod after returing it because of HDD problems and when i try to sync with itunes, it manages to sync a random number of songs (ill get to that later) often about a 100 and the says "Ipod could not be written or read from". The thing is that i use an Lacie 80Gb External USB 2.0 Powered Harddrive as my Music library. Also it seems not to be USB timeout because ive tried to power both the External HDD and Ipod with an external powered USB 2.0 Hub. Ive found out that the number of songs that syncs each time depends on the songs, because it seems that some songs cannot just be copied (ive tried to copy them through finder and it dosent work either, but moving and/or deleting them works) and they arent in anyway different(what i know of) to the songs that manages to be synced to the ipod. None of the songs have any kind of DRM restrictions.
Ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Use An External USB 2.0 powered HDD as main media storage

Ive had it on my Ibook before and then moved it to the HDD because of Space Shortage, and then just added as ive aquired more music. Idon't Really Remeber but i think it worked before without any hiccups. oh well otherwise i can just delete those files because theyre only single files here and there. but its quite irritating because they don't seem to have any kind of corruption.

  • Weird Problems with iPod 30 gig..

My 30 gig iPod video is a little over a year old and today it did some weird stuff. I went to turn it on and it froze up so I reset it and it froze at the Logo screen. I kept resetting it and sometimes the logo screen would light up, turn on and then I could scroll through a menu and it would freeze up on a title and I would have to reset it. A couple times after resetting, the logo screen would come up all black except for a thick white/static strip through the middle. Does anyone know whats going on ?

May need to try a restore since reset is not helping.

  • Weird problem with iPod

I recently bought an iPod (refurbished), and this problem showed up as soon as I first used it. I then reset the unit and the problem was gone. It is back, but I refuse to have to keep reseting my iPod. Does anyone know an answer to this?
Here is the problem: When I go to the top of my artist list (IE: A perfect circle) and choose a song to play, the iPod will just go through all of the songs in the folder as if they were unplayable. This happens up to a certain point of going down the alphabetical list. It also messes up random cd arts.
Does anyone know what is wrong here?

I have had this problem before, where it wont play certain songs (i have even had a song that reset my ipod whenever i played it). I think that the problem may be that the song is not the correct format for the ipod but somehow managed to copy itself on there anyway. So you could either:
    a) try recopying the song onto your ipod.
    b) right click the song and chose convert selection. I know that if right click does not do it there is a way to convert the song to the proper format, then recopy it to your ipod.
    Hope this helps...

  • Help with ipod classic 80gb 2nd new ipod not working

I need some help with my ipod, this is the second ipod I have had in the same number of weeks the first one worked fine for about 8 days and then when syncing one night it froze and then would not disconnect, I searched the support section and worked how to reset the ipod which | did many times, in the end I restored the ipod to the factory settings and synced again the end result of this was that the ipod would not turn on despite everything that I tried. The apple log would appear and the ipod would then try desperatley to switch itself on with the apple logo appearing and disappering all the time. Apple have replaced the ipod and I have fully charged the new ipod synced it this evening all was ok, the ipod synced and then told me to disconnect and the same thing is happening again I have tried to reset multiple times and all that happens now is the apple logo appears and disappers it will not switch on or off, itunes keeps telling me that it cannot recognise the ipod at this time and the safely remove section on my task bar on my computer is telling me that the ipod has malfunctioned. can anyone help? am I doing something wrong someone suggested that I should have downloaded itunes once I had my ipod and not before, I have about 20GB of music in itunes and I was not aware that you needed to use or own an ipod to use this music storage system
    HELP
    Thanks in anticipation

well it looks like you might have a tech issue here; try to return the ipod and choose a different store and buy one ... also try to uninstall itunes totally, back up your songs on a CD or DVD, and then re-install a fresh new copy of itunes ... this might work ... good luck!

  • Need Help ASAP!! with iPod Classic 80GB

This is my first apple product and it is not giving a good impression. I need help eargently!
I Sync 2969 songs onto my ipod for first time 2 days ago using latest Itunes it worked great and i was happy just my ipod didnt have all the album art, so the next day i plugged it in and put all the album art to the correct albums which went fine, then i wanted to add another album. I clicked sync to update the library on my ipod and it started transfering at a sluggish speed simular to this 1....2....3....4....5....6 etc it eventually got to 196 out of 1248 and stopped and 2 mins later itunes crashed. so the only way i could remove my ipod was to pull it out without ejecting it i then tried to look for the songs and what do you know it said on my Ipod 0 Music..... I was gob smacked i put it back in, in hope for it to sync again but ever since then it continues to do that, but i can manually transfer max 4 albums by drag and drop, at a time before itunes crashes. I am seriously going to throw it in the bin soon if i cant get it working and i will never ever buy an apple product again, i love the idea of the iPod but there to faffy! compared to a standard MP3 player..
PLEASE HELP ME i have tried restoring it many times, ive tried resetting it holding menu button and select button. and i have also tried another way were you restard the ipod and during the apple logo you quickly hold play which formats it..
please help me!! apples help lines are useless!

You do understand that this is a user-to-user forum? That we're all volunteers? And this is a weekend? You may need to be a bit more patient.
If I had an answer I would be happy to try to help. When you say you've tried "restoring" it, do you mean that you've hooked it up to your computer and pressed the "Restore" button in iTunes? If not, that's the next thing you should try.
I know you've tried a few things but it wouldn't hurt to go through the standard trouble shooting steps:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    Best of luck.
