Weird RAM problem- installing
Hi- I have 4 different ram chips. They are all the same and the correct type for the macbook.
Whenever I install any of them, 2 are 512 chips, 2 are 1 gb chips, the computer seems to turn on but has a blank screen and the sleep-light indicator blinks white. I have tried different combinations in the slots and all are the same.
However, when I put the original chips back in, the computer seems to work fine. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!
MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7) Running XP thru BootCamp
The only possibilities that I can think of are
a) are you sure that you're pushing all of the RAM modules in as far as they need to go? That was my problem when I first installed my 2 1GB sticks of RAM in there. Make sure that you push firmly, and that they go back far enough.
b) are you sure that they're all the correct ones for the MacBook?
c) if not, then you may have some bad RAM, and you may need to contact the company that you bought it from and get it replaced.
Sorry of those seem simplistic, but one can never be too sure! Good luck!

Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
Problems installing Adobe Air and BBC iPlayer Desktop
I'm running Windows 7 32 bit on an ASUS netbook with 2mb ram. I installed both Air 3.7 and BBC iPlayer Desktop using Google Chrome. I downloaded 3 BBC programmes. Two ran fine but the third wouldn't start and I kept getting a message to try again later. I deleted this programme and downloaded it again, with the same result.
So I uninstalled both Air and the BBC iPlayer Desktop, the Air exe file and the two folders at the following locations:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\AIR\ and
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\BBCiPlayerDesktop.xxx
Since doing this each time I try to install Air either on its own or with the BBC iPlayer software I get the message part way through installation:
"Sorry, an error has occurred.
An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
I have run the Microsoft Fix it programme and still get the same result.
I have tried everything on your Trouble Shooting page apart from the bit about the elevated command prompt, but as I'm the sole user and administrator, that seems unnecessary.
I have closed Chrome and tried installation using Windows Explorer but with the same result.
I have tried all the above with Microsoft Security Essentials running and disabled. And I have tried the same with Astrill on and off.
I have had a response from the BBC with much the same advice as appears on your trouble shooting page.
Here is the Air installation log, followed by the MSI log.

I really can't figure out this problem. Search the internet tried all kinds of things, nothing help so far.
I have a Macbook Pro (Lion originally installed) running on Mavericks (all latest updates). SSD installed and the DVD tray is replaced by the original HDD.
The laptop wasn't running very smooth anymore so decided to give it a fresh Mavericks install (even though I know it's not really necessary for mac, it helped, everything is much faster except a weird internet problem came up).
After freshly installing Mavericks I couldn't get into my google account anymore, just wouldn't load. Tried Safari (use this normally) and Firefox and Chrome, this last was gave a SSL connection error, both Safari and FF said the website couldn't be loaded because the server didn't respond. For Gmail I use Mailplane which is just stuck on a white page. I tried repairing the keychain, repaired disk and disk permissions, cleaned browsers, turned off firewall and antivirus (Shopos) started in safe mode, checked time settings which were all good. Nothing of this helped. I even ended up creating a usb bootdisk for Mavericks, formatted the disk and reinstalled from the start just Mavericks and nothing else, started Safari, still the same problem. As even this didn't help I figured it's not worth reinstalling all software so put back my backup.
Now I ended up somehow only being able to use Gmail normally in Firefox, Chrome still gives SSL error and Safari can load the inbox, but I can't open any messages. I get the error there is a problem with the connection. If I try in Basic HTML mode it surprisingly does work.
You would say, just use Firefox, finished...but the thing is that sometimes random websites won't load in Firefox, when I load the same site in Safari it works perfectly.
O yes, I also tried the connect to my iPhone and use the Cellular data network, then it's no problem using Gmail in Safari normally. You would say it's a router problem, but I have another Macbook Pro (just one model later running Mountain Lion) this one works perfectly with every browser. Also my iPhone does everyting logged into the WiFi network.
You can understand I really have no clue what's going on here, I don't see any logic. I can only think of a hardware problem in my Macbook, but don't see how that could cause these problems.
I hope someone is ably to help me ?Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2. -

to boot from your original grey Mac OS X Install DVD, you’ll need to hold down the C key as you start up your MacBook Pro.
Which model MacBook Pro do you have, and which version of Mac OS is noted as being on your grey installation DVD? (It can be found on the lower left of your Mac OS X Install DVD.) -
Ram problem! (msi z68-gd80,g3)
Hey there.
have a problem with my new ripjaw x series ram 1866. ( and all other ram)
Tried installing all 16 gb of it earlier today and apparently only the first blue and black ram slot work.
Before i updated my bios to the newest one the pc wouldn't even load it would automaticly restart, but after getting the newest version of bios the computer keeps running but no signal to the screen.
I tried mem test on all 4 sticks by using them on the first two slots 1 black and 1 blue and there are no errors.

Did you test @DDR3-1333 // 1.55V // CR=2T?
Also, please read the >>Posting Guide<< and provide full system specs (especially precise model names/numbers of the memory modules you are talking about here).
How and where do i change those settings? Am a total newbie so you'll have to be patient with me..
In the overclock setting of the bios tried changing the volt to and freq to what you said but after changing that even the working 2 didn't work.. so i had to reset bios. -
Weird RAM/Scratch Disk issue
Having a weird memory problem with Photoshop CS4 on my G5 Quad.
Let me see if I can explain this properly....
When I open up a file in Photoshop, I notice that the available space on my hard drive reduces (info at the bottom of any Finder window). Essentially, it's using the scratch disk.
I would expect this with a very large file that exeeds the amount of ram in the machine. But it does it even with files of 5-10 Mb. It appears to me (just a guess) that Photoshop isn't using RAM when opening or manipulating a file. Though I have more than enough to open it.
Even when I close the file, or "purge all" from PS's edit menu, my available disk space does not come back. Only when I quit out of Photoshop completely, will it come back.
Make sense?
No other application seems to be having this issue. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
I've run Apples Disk Utility, and everything came out fine. Ran TechTool Deluxe, and no problems there either. Hoping maybe I'm just missing some piece of the puzzle first, before I uninstall/reinstall Photoshop.
System specs:
G5 Quad (2.5 GHz)
4 GB RAM
OSX 10.5.8
Photoshop CS4 (11.0.1)
Memory usage set to allow up to 70% (but doesn't seem to matter what I set it to)This is normal.
Photoshop needs to allocate scratch space for data, in case it needs to write that data to disk later -- otherwise you would randomly fail with "out of scratch space" in the MIDDLE of an operation.
Photoshop is using RAM, but needs to allocate the scratch space, and make sure the allocation succeeded.
And yes, RAM and scratch space get reused, so rarely decrease.
Other applications that deal with datasets larger than RAM will have the same issues.
And technically your OS swapfiles do the same things. -
Hi to all!!
That's my (new) problem:
after an incredible reanimation of my "dead" Mac Mini (it wasn't turn on at all except the white LED at the front), now the system can't read the total amount of installed RAM Memory.
This Mini has installed 512MB in 2 banks of 256MB each. I'm sure of this because I opened the Mini and I seen this 2 banks. But:
- in Mac OS X, system recognizes only 256MB (and, in System Profiler, Bank #1 results empty)
- in Windows, system recognizes only 224MB and Intel Video Card see 32MB of video memory instead of 64MB
Other details:
- Apple Hardware Test DOESN'T reveals any problem!
- Windows memory diagnostics (from Windows Vista install DVD) also DOESN'T reveal any problem
- MemTest86 and another RAM tester reveals, at the opposite, RAM problems in several sectors.
This Mini has been previously repaired from an Apple Center for the same problem, and they have replaced both RAM banks. It's possible that, again, RAM banks has became faulty?? And, over all, that 2 faulty RAM banks DOESN'T cause any Kernel Panic or Windows 's BSOD???
If it can be usefully... also the built-in Wireless Card has stopped its work, in Windows and in Mac OS X: WiFi card is seen from the System but any WiFi Network is found....
Please help me!!
Thanks to all!Your best bet is to get the RAM replaced by high quality to spec RAM*:
http://www.macmaps.com/badram.html
If the same RAM tests fail again, then you can likely suspect the RAM slots themselves were never repaired.

Problem installing trial version of After Effects CS4
Hi,
I'm trying to install the trial version of After Effects CS4 on Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 32-bit Operating System, Processor 2.4GHz, RAM 4GB.
At the initializing stage it gets to 90% on the 'Checking System Profile...' dialog box, something flashes and then it freezes.
I've downloaded it a second time in case of corruption.
I've rebooted several times and retried it with no other applications running.
I've run updates on any existing adobe products I have.
Any ideas? I've never had problems installing adobe products before.
Thanks.Not your fault, known issue.
a) Download the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility and install it
b) Download the CS4 Cleanup Utility from Adobe's support pages
c) Run the CS4 Cleanup, electing to remove all debris from your failed install
d) Manually uninstall all instances of Adobe AIR products (Acrobat.com, Adobe Media Palyer) using Add or Remove Programs
e) Launch the Microsoft Installer Cleanup and look for instances of Adobe Installer 2.0. Have them removed. Optionally, have it remove other Adobe stuff that may have been left over from CS4.
f) Try to install CS4
Note: The cleanup utilities will not remove anything physically, only clean out the installer, so they pose no danger to your system. You will only lose the ability to uninstall those programs from Add or Remove Programs.

Nokia E72 Memory (RAM) Problem
Hi everyone,
I recently installed Opera Mobile 12 in my phone and have been facing RAM problems a lot lately.... After I surf the internet for sometime, i frequently get the messege showing ''Memory Full: Please Close Some Applications and Try Again''... Its not that I faced this in earlier versions of Opera Mobile but it was less frequent and multitasking was easily possible.... Now, other programs (like whatsapp, mobipocket reader, music player etc) cannot be run along with the browser and most of the time I minimize the browser, it exits and often, it exits while i'm still browsing.... Sometimes, when I get the memory full error, my theme disappears and the default theme of my phone loads up instead.... Can I work a way around this problem?? According to my mobile guard, the Opera eats away around 30-35 MB of RAM... When i boot up, I have around 45 MB of RAM available.... Can I increase my free memory so that I can browse, chat and listen to music side by side with none of the processes getting automatically killed?? I've tried workarounds such as the ''KillMe'' app to close unnecessary processes and although it frees some RAM, the problem still persists... Please help...
-TirthaHi tirtha2chester,
Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums.
Have a look at the following link:

It has some advice on how to clear up memory, give it a go and see if it helps.
Also have a look at some of the threads on these forum with other users having similar problems:

1. Reinstall the 2 factory RAM modules in the top slots and be sure to push real hard on each module with both thumbs to ensure that they are fully seated.
as per > iMac: How to remove or install memory
2. Run the Extended Apple Hardware Test,
as per > Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
3. If the Hardware test comes up clean, recheck the spec's of the third party 4GB modules and only if they are correct, reinstall them in the bottom slots again (pushing real hard) as described above.
4. Re-run the Extended Apple Hardware Test. -
Problems installing Netweaver Developer Workplace 2004
Dear Netweaver experts,
I have severe problems installing Netweaver Developer Workplace 2004 on windows XP.
I used sapinst for installing the Java sytem (Menue Java System->Oracle->Custom Installation).
After running through 34 of the 35 phases during which the sapinst tries to start the freshly installed J2EE engine I got the error :
CJSlibModule::writeError_impl() CJS-20057 Starting J2EE Engine J00 of SAP system J2E failed: after 84 s the state of the engine changed from "Starting" to "Stopped".
and changed my memory setting using the configtool.
Afterwards I tried to start the server in my MMC and it seemed to be running.
INFO
Execution of the command "D:\usr\sap\J2E\JC00\exe/startsap.exe 'name=J2E' 'nr=00' 'SAPDIAHOST=K-0017553'" finished with return code 0. Output: STARTSAP continues...
But when I had a closer look at the Process table at the MMC I saw that the server0 wasn't running
(Server 0 stopped Exit Code -2).
Now I don't know how to proceed.
Does someone of you know how I could get my J2EE server running ?

Problems installing Adobe Elements 4.0
Wow, do I love my Macbook Pro. No waiting to order it. Got it 3 weeks ago at the Apple Store. No noise, no problem installing my old files .etc.
However, tonight I tried to install Adobe Elements 4 two times. Both times at the last seconds of installing I get a message to try installing again. Is this a known issue with intel Macs? Or do I have defective software?
Thanks for any info about this.
Nancy
733 Power Mac Mac OS X (10.4.1)is it best I pair the upgrade and just put another 512 MB in second slot, or can I put 1 or 2 gig in that slot and get dual channel performance?
That's a good question which often leads to a lot of debate. Most benchmarks show the effect of dual channel is minimal, probably because with most applications memory is not the bottleneck, other sub-systems like the hard drive or graphics are.
It really depends on what you're going to do with the computer: if a lot of Elements 4 work under Rosetta with many windows open etc. I think you'd be well served by going to 2GBs of RAM. If intensive use like that will be minimal, and mostly you're going to "iLife it up," e-mail, surfing, etc. then you'd probably be happy adding another 512MB. Over time as more programs go Universal the overhead imposed by Rosetta will be less & less of an issue.
When shopping be sure to check out OWC (Other World Computing) for their pricing on genuine Samsung memory (I'm not a fan of their "no name" brand). Apple uses a lot of Samsung itself, as well as Micron which you can buy from Crucial.com. Others will have their own favorites to recommend, of course. -
Problems installing any Adobe CS software
Hello.
I wanted to try out Photoshop, inDesign and Illustrator CS5.
I already had photoshop CS4 installed. However after installing windows 7 64 bit (I had windows vista 32 bit before) I have huge problems installing any adobe product.
I had to install photoshop over night and the next day it wasn't even ready. At the beginning of the installation it says it would take about 15 minutes but after reaching 20% it already says 155 minutes. before having windows 7 64 bit I had no problems installing photoshop CS4 but any adobe product I try to install now (either cs4 or cs5) needs extremely long to install (if it even finishes) I usually cancel because I have o hope it will actually finish since "needed" time is constantly growing during the installation.
My System :
- windows 7 64 bit
- intel core2quad 8300 (4x 2.5 Ghz)
- 7 GB Ram
- some medion motherboard
- not the best drive but still enough. (360 GB)
I'll try to burn the data on a DVD now but it can't be that my drive is that slow.
If anyone has the same problems, or have some advices / solutions, please answer,
thanks in advance.I built a new computer so installed clean... but I have read that installing Win7 over anything else (upgrade) does not always work well compared to installing onto a freshly formatted drive

Problem installing Oracle 9iAS on Win2000
Hi everybody,
I have problem installing Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2.a on Win2000.
The process instalation stops when the instalation bar shows 100% complete and copying welcome.html . After that, other processes should start, but it does not happen.
I have installed in an other machine an Oracle 8.1.7 release 3 and I set up parameters as described into documentation. I didn4t applied any patch because I was using release 3 already.
I have 1GB RAM , 1.5 Gb of virtual memory , 2 processors 1,3 Ghz,
and 10 Gb on HD target on both servers(Database and Application Server).
Does anybody have a sugestion ?
Thanks.Kevin, I don't which version of 9iAS you are trying to install, but as far as I can tell no 9i versions of the application server are certified against Windows 2003, only 10g is certified against Windows 2003. So what's probably happening is the installer doesn't recognize Windows 2003 and thinks it's a non-patched version of Windows 2000. You should either install Windows 2000 SP1 (minimum) or install Oracle 10gAS.

Problem installing DevelopmentSuite
Hi!
I've got a problem installing the Development Suite. When I try to install it, after the installation type Oracle Universal Installer tells me, that I should have at least 128 MB ram in my machine. Now I've actually 512 MB installed. What could be the problem?
thxIt is an error and I'm unable to continue installation.
Do you know how Oracle Installer checks the installed Memory? Maybe it's a bug of a tool or similar... So I can fix it.

How do I use elvis to record data from a pasco rotary motion sensor
I want to use a pasco rotary motion sensor (a rotary encoder) with ELVIS to record angular velocity. I have a LabPro system which I could also interface. But I was hoping to keep the hardware less complicated by wiring the sensor directly to ELVIS.
