Weird screen artifacts replaying video recorded using Camtasia

I record a screencast using Camtasia using the default Techsmith Screen Codec 2 codec and it plays back in Windows Media Player just fine. I can also drag it into Sony Vegas and edit it just fine. When I drag it into Premiere Pro CC I can replay it, but it doesn't render right. There is a weird problem with things like dialog boxes where only parts of the dialog show at any given time and tend to be revealed as the mouse is moved around. Here's an image...
It looks like keyframe issue to me. Anyone know what's going on?

Certainly Camtasia can export .mp4 files, but I'm recording directly to .avi using my choice of codec. Rendering video out of Camtasia would add an additional (and very long) step to the process and would also reduce quality by compressing twice. I wouldn't think that Premiere Pro would need to necessarily "support" a codec. If a system has a codec and is capable of compressing and decompressing to and from it, then I would expect a program like Premiere to just work. The other video editing software packages work with it.

  • Quicktime - New Video Recording using Canon HV30 - Codec?

I'm using Quicktime Pro 7.4.1 with a Canon HV30 connected via firewire. In Quicktime preferences pane, the HV30 is the video source with "Device Native" as the Quality setting. Though, I can't see a preview in the Quicktime window while recording, it does appear to record footage. When I stop the recording, it says that I don't have the codec to view the footage and sends me to the Quicktime plug-in page on this site, but I have no idea what I need.
Considering some of the codecs (if not all of them) cost money, I'd rather not buy something that won't fix my problem. Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: Oh yeah, the camera is set to HDV 1080i60 video standard. When I switch the camera to SDV, the Quicktime preview returns and everything works as expected.

I am using Quicktime Pro on an iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.5. Quicktime will work with iSight but not with my PS3 eye (usb webcam). I am able to choose the PS3 eye from Quicktime preferences and the video screen will show up with video from the PS3 eye (so I know that Quicktime recognizes the cam). But the error dialogue box appears immediately.
Other information - I am using macam.component for Quicktime and the PS3 eye works perfectly with Macam.

Has anyone received this error before?
I have not, but I do not use PS3 eye. If it is a "UVC" (usb video class) device, it should work with any Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later _without additional software drivers_. Some unnecessary drivers can conflict with your Mac's software.
If desired, you can remove the file macam.component from /Library/QuickTime and restart Mac to see if the PS3 eye can work with QuickTime without the additional driver.

  • Weird screen artifacts after QT update

Ran the QT 7.1.5 / iTunes update this morning on my 10.3.9 Power Mac G5 and now I'm getting strange video artifacts. For example: the toolbar area of Firefox is no longer white - it's a crosshatched gray, almost like I was running in lo-res, but the main browser window looks normal. Other programs exhibit the same type of artifact - but only in certain parts of their windows. Also, the "hand" cursor looks like it's made up of dots, like pointilism. Everything works fine, just looks weird.
I repaired permissions, reapplied the 10.3.9 combo update, and reapplied the QT 7.1.5 update. No change. I can go into the Display preferences and switch from millions of colors to 256 and back again - and then things look fine, until I quit and relaunch the program. Then the artifacts are back.
Anybody have any ideas? I hope I've explained this sufficiently. I have a screen shot of this but don't know how to post it.
    Thanks!

I'm running KDE as well. Guess I should have mentioned that. I'll try to downgrade the "xf86-video-ati" to see if that helps.

    Hi macosxlover,
    Those are the instructions.
    Open iMovie
Move the slider to the camera (use it as a drop down if more than one cam is available)
Press the record button to add the video feed as a clip.
    Edit as required.

  • Video stutter and artifacting -TM700k video imported using rewrap2m2v

    Guys,
I imported a video shot in TM700 to my iMac late 2006 model running snow leopard, using the Automator tool of Alan Somersault -rewrap. While playing the resultant movie .m4v file I am getting a lot of video stutter and artifacting and the movie also quit couple of times while playing.
    Any suggestions on resolving this?
    Thanks

The movist application actually drops frames during playback to avoid the stutter you've described.
This of course is good for preview. The only other way (within consumer segment) is to get a computer which support hardware accelerated playback, i.e. a later Mac models. However, as hardware acceleration is early, stutter still occurs for some applications but that will improve over time.
If you want to go the free route, use Rewrap2M4V to rewrap the video files to a more friendly format and then use MPEG Streamclip to actually convert the video to a less compressed format.
If you want an "all-in-one" solution, try VoltaicHD for ClipWrap.

  • Psychedelic screen artifacts during video

During video playback, the pod started "messing up" the image. At first, it was the centers of the letters on the beginning credits blacking out. Then, areas of solid black were being replaced by pink and purple -- well, this video was encoded as grayscale so there is no purple. This video had previously played fine on the Mac and an older video ipod. To see if maybe the video file itself had become corrupted, I tried a different movie (in color), one from iTunes store. Video on this one was totally psychedelic, and then the frame began shifting. "Horizontal Hold" was slipping, if you are old enough to know what that means. Lol.
A reset of the pod fixed it up. Anyone else have a problem like this? I just hope it doesn't keep recurring....

Make sure you're running Touch software 1.1.2.
You might want to restore it once with 1.1.2 to see if that helps.
I've not really seen this since the pre-1.1.2 days...

  • Recording using a written script

Before I produce my training material I write a script that contains what I am going to say.  I then record the materials and read the script at the same time.  However, so far I have found this approach a little awkward because my script is on paper and I keep having to turn from paper based script to my screen.
I have been considering recording the audio component of my training material first (using the script) and then play it back to myself while recording the visual component.  Although this seems like a better solution I still have one issue.  As I read the script I run through it using the product I am delivering the training for.  This allows me to get the timings sorted.  But when I am swapping from a paper based script to the PC things can get a little muddled.
Any suggestions for a better way of producing these recordings?
    John

    Hi John
Normally we find the best approach to be the way Hollywood movies work. You record the main action without audio. Certainly you might speak it out as you move through it in order to get the timing close. Then add the audio later. Captivate has the ability to present the Script (entered as notes on the slide) on screen along with the action as you record. This method breaks apart the action that is recorded first so you can focus just on the action, then you shift focus and work on narration.
Recording both at the same time is difficult at best. I've been creating some training videos recently using Camtasia and using that approach. It's cumbersome and there are LOTS of re-records as I fumble, mumble and stumble repeatedly over words while recording.
    Hope this helps... Rick

The I mac I purchased last year has a built in cam.I would like to know if I can do a short video recording using this cam.I know this is mostly used as a webcam, however I would like to know if I can do a recording on it.If so how to go about? Will the recording be like a webcam recording (not in full flow but cartoon like) or will it be  like recording on a handycam, atleast to an extent? I dont want the discontinuity woth short pauses inbetween, that we see on webcams.

You can see if you like it by using PhotoBooth's video function, the film looking icon to the left of the record button.

  • DIGIDAL VIDEO RECORDER

I am working on my final year project building a Digiatal Video Recorder using LabView. If you have any information of how to get sampling my analoq signal that requires a very high frequency will you send it to me.
    Thanks

Are you looking for what type of hardware you will need, or do you have hardware and are looking for code that will do the acquisition? If you need hardware, you said that you need to sample at very high frequencies. How high? National Instruments have many boards to choose from. You can go as low as 100 ksamples/sec up to around 10 Msamples/second. If you are looking for some code, there are a few good shipping examples that will do analog acquisition. If you select Help >> Find examples (this is for LabVIEW 6.1) >> Hardware Input and Output >> DAQ >> Analog Input >> General - there are around 20 VIs with varying applications that will help in developing an analog acquisition.

You can also check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later

    Hi j2399123,
It sounds like your screen recording is doing what it was designed to do, capture what is happening on your screen, with optional voice over with the microphone.
Screen recording is for recording what you see on the screen, it is not a "video capture" option, like for capturing a movie with sound that is playing on your screen.
For the QuickTime recording options, check out "Recording with QuickTime Player" in
Mac Basics: QuickTime Player creates, plays, edits, and shares video and audio files

Using Azul media player app on my ipad  Apple tv will only display sound but not video from movies.  Any ideas on a fix.  I set mirroring to on but it still does not display video.  It will display photos and video recorded from my iphone.

Here are the steps for AirPlay:
Before starting Azul from your (running iOS 5.x/6.x) home screen where have have all your apps we need to turn on mirroring
On your iPhone 4S/5 or iPad 2 or 3, double-click the Home  Button to view your recently-used apps.
Swipe all the way to the right to until you see the  icon.
Note: If the icon does not appear, go to the "If AirPlay Mirroring is not visible or available on your mobile iOS device" section.
Tap the  icon to see the list of available AirPlay devices.
Enable AirPlay Mirroring in this menu by tapping on an available Apple TV, then sliding the Mirroring slider to ON.
Now you should be seeing your iPad/iPhone on your TV.
Start up Azul now and using the settings icon on the top right corner go to the option that say "TV out" ON.
When you do that you will see an Orange screen
Now click "Done" and play the video you want to watch and it will AirPlay

  • Recording the screen with a video camera

Can someone help me be able to record everything on my screen to my video camera? Can I use a firewire to do so? Is there a specific application i require? What I DON'T want to do is record my screen straight to the computer (this will be processor/space intensive) plus I already know how to do that? Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Forums!
I'm a little confused. You want to record your screen to your video camera? Point the camera at the screen and press record on the camcorder. Viola.
I suspect what you want to do is not that simple, but that's the answer to the question you asked
IF you have a recording device with a _video in_ (which is something that camcorders typically don't have!! - other than the lens, I mean...), you'd need to convert the video out - which is the DVI port.
So, if it were me, I'd use my DVI-to-video adapter, connect the DVI output to my DVR (the one on my TV), set the DVR to that input, and record that way.
    Hope this helps...
