Weird sounds on start-up

Got a problem with my MacBook Pro here. Just appeared today,
On every startup I get a lot of "system sounds" running. You know... like when you connect a cable, or connect to a network, or get a notification and so on.
I've heard the sound before sometimes but not this frequent. It's killing me.
I'm afraid there is something wrong with my macbook that could escalate to something bad.
There was also a problem with the network for a 15 minutes the first time it happened.
Heres a recording of the sound:
http://soundcloud.com/fingar-b/system-sound-problem/s-WMDTS
See what I mean? (oh.. there it was again).
Have anyo... (and again).
Have any of you had the same problem?
Can you recognize the sound?
Am I dealing with a catastrophe here?

Probably just an app making that sound - not one that I have running, as I've never heard it.
Skype, maybe?

  • Weird sound in start up and No bootable device

    Hi,
Since last night I cannot start my laptop. When I try to start, it makes a weird sound and then no bootable device. The Hdd test and bios does not recognise the hard drive either. I tried forced restart and also tried reseating it. But it still makes the weird noise in the start up and no bootable device. Please heLp.

Sounds like the hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hdd.

  • Weird sound when starting up/wake up

A macbook bought sometime late last summer, have had a few problems, but all were software errors and are solved. but recently it has been making weird noises when you turn it on, or wake it up. the sounds seems to be coming from the disc drive area and sounds like its trying to eject a disk, it "trys" two or three times. it was dropped the day before and has a small little chip on the bottom right corner. does anyone know if they noises are normal? or if i should take it into the apple store to get it checked out?

Ummmmm... the computer was dropped and now makes noises? That's not normal. Have you tried to insert a dvd or cd into the optcal drive to see if it still works? Sounds to me like you'll be making a trip to the Apple store....but don't expect that they're going to warranty anything....they'll know it was dropped.

  • Macbook Pro V10.6.6 making weird sound

My Macbook pro has started making this weird sound suddenly starting this morning. It's coming from the right side and the sound is very hard to explain. It's somewhat krrrrrrr, something like an electric, static sound. It's hard to hear at times but it can get quite annoying when it gets loud. It comes and goes. I tried restarting my computer but the sound still remains. What could that sound be? I hope all my internal hardware is fine
    Please help me out here!!

Try doing a SMC reset, it may take a couple of try's. The instructions are:
    *SMC RESET*
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    • On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    • Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    *PRAM RESET*
    • Shut down the computer.
    • Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step
    • Turn on the computer.
    • Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    • Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    • Release the keys.

The 13" retina MBP has two fans, left and right near the hinge and about 2.5" each from the edges of the case.
My conjecture is that one of the fans may be failing.  An appointment at an Apple store genius bar is the best option.  The evaluation will be FREE and a fan replacement (if that is the problem) should not break the bank account.
You might run an Apple Hardware Test:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11342
This may confirm my suspicion or perhaps find a different problem. Note that an error free result should not be viewed as being definitive.
    Ciao.

  • I have a stuck CDR disk in my MacBook. I have tried everything and nothing works. When the computer starts it makes weird sounds and also when I try to eject it. Nothing Works! Please Help.

I have tried everything and nothing works. When the computer starts it makes weird sounds and also when I try to eject it. Nothing Works! Please Help.

I had that happen with a MacBook. It turned out that the metal case above the slot was slightly bent down.
Putting a flat blade screwdriver in the slot and gently twisting it to move the metal case up allowed it to eject. Don't put it in too far you only want to bend the case not the drive.
The case can get bent down by picking it up with your thumb pressing down on the case above the slot.

  • Powerbook "turns on" no display, weird sound?

My G4 will not start. The familiar chime comes on when I press the power button, and it sounds like it will start. However, no video shows up and no hard drive activity seems to be happening. When I held down the power button and shift key together, the little lid-button light blinked a bunch of times, and a weird sound happened (sort of a low beep)
    Any ideas?

  • Weird sound coming from above F1-F3 keys - locks computer up

I just got my MacBook Pro back from Apple and they did not fix the problem below (although, they fixed a number of small things, thankfully, like the bad speakers, crash from sleep, flaking keyboard paint, etc.). I am taking it back in today and need to figure out how to best describe this problem or point them in the right direction, since it was not addressed.
About a week ago, my MacBook Pro starting making this weird sound above the F1-F3 keys, something resembling a loud hard drive accessing sound or a sparking sound. When this happens, the cursor turns into the colored spinning beach ball, locking up my ability to interact with my computer. This continues for maybe 5-10 minutes. Then the sound stops, and the beachball goes away. But, it could come back anytime. This makes working on my computer virtually impossible as there are times it happens 3-4 times in an hour. It comes randomly, at any time. It seems some likely if the computer has been running for awhile and is overheating, but it has been known to come on bootup sometimes, as well.
No idea what his is - I already had the Main Logic Board replaced and it didn't help, so it must be another component up there underneath the F1-F3 keys.
    Any expert advice? Thank you.

    hi Andy
ok i've just learned how to operate the console...
and the noise just happened at 8.52 though there is no record at 8.52 !

though i did scroll back earlier and though i can't be certain it was happening at the this time i saw this suspicious entry repeated hundreds of times.  i'm a complete novice on console - this is just on the start-up screen - not tried any of the side menus.
will try in safe mode next unless you think anything below is the culprit!

  • Weird sound during playback of recorded track

hey guys, how are you all doing?
so i got a new pc rig, which is quite fast, and have started using adobe audition for recording purposes.
    i use a soundblaster audigy 2 soundcard
when i record one track and then play it, theres a weird sound at around 25 seconds which becomes louder and then stops suddenly. it also creates a delay if i'm recording multiple tracks. here's a sound clip of the noise:
    http://www.savefile.com/files/2151778
please tell me how to fix it.
    any help would be appreciated

    Thanks.
I found a solution which works at least between 50 bpm and 177 bpm:
Add a volume fader. Connect the output of the volume fader to the input of the tempo fader and set the input of the tempo fader to volume, then record the volume fader. Moving the volume fader moves also the tempo fader and changes the tempo.
During play back, the volume fader reads the recorded automation data and updates the tempo fader in real-time and the tempo of the song is changed.
For this you don't have to activate tempo recording in the project settings and the possibilities to graphically edit automation data are also better.
Additionally you can add varispeed to set the speed range from 25 - 88,5 bpm up to 100 - 354 bpm.

  • 865 PRO makng weird sound

Yep, as stated my 865 pro is making a weird sound. It used to sound like bliss (near quiet...ish).
It all started when i installed Pinnacle Studio 10. It felt like it was working the cpu hard (p4 pres 3.0ghz), but from then on it sounds like the fan is making a weird sound? You know the sound of a fan when its slowing down and then speeding up, like a whirring sound. Whats going on, It can't be on its last legs already i've had this for about 2 years. What do you guys think is wrong with it and how can i fi the noise?
    Many thanks
    Andy

I advise u to send it for repair/check. If it is still within the warranty period that is.

  • The harddrive makes weird sound and is dead!

    Hi
I bought this fancy car stereo with a aux input so I could listen to my iPod in the car. Whoever had the car before me had a magnet attached to the dashboard, for holding onto her cellphone. Well I looked at my iPod, I saw a metal cover and figured it would be perfect to have it on that magnet. Well, 2-3 trips later my iPod won't play anymore and when I try to turn it on it makes this weird sound as if something is scratcing in it, internally. Then that white screen comes up with a sad iPod-smilie. When I plug it to the computer it just keeps trying to start up, repeatedly.
    Have I destroyed my baby?
    This *****.

yup. its dead. this just happened to mine, oh, a couple weeks ago. its probably not due to the magnet, though. when i took mine in they said it was most likely because of some kind of physical trauma the ipod had been through, sudden or over time, such as dropping or just being moved around a lot. if your ipod is under warranty, though, you shouldnt have any trouble getting a good-as-new replacement at the store. when i went there was a pretty long wait, but once i got there it proceeded very quickly. i must say, i expected some kind of long ordeal, but all that happened was i showed him the noise it was making and the sad ipod icon, he said "ok", did something on his computer real quick, and went into the back and got me a replacement. if your ipod isnt under warranty anymore i suggest reading whatever information you have on ipod support(i dont know if you saved the little booklets in the box or not, i did). i read it all before i went in, and most of it is just protecting themselves in case they treat you like crap(which may have been the reason i expected them to), so i wouldnt get your hopes up too much if your ipod is no longer in warranty.
    good luck

  • Midi not out/ weirds sounds

Hi , when i hit rec i have weirds sounds from my exrternals instruments or when i start logic.
Does anyone know this problem ? Is it a bug ?
    Thanks for help
Imac fusion drive 2,7 intel core i5, os 10.9.1, Logic pro X 10.0.6

It's probably one of the recent Apple updates that hosed your Logic performance, try turning of Airport and see if that fixes the problem.
Don't know if the Logic 8.02 + OS 10.5.3 fixes the problem as I don't use wireless, just a big ol' honkin' cable.

  • Weird sound when entering optical-in cable

My new PB 17" hi-res makes a weird sound when I insert the monster optical cable into the optical-in jack. The sound it makes through the speakers is the sound of air getting released under pressure, at a very high sound level.
The optical cable is attached to a Sony DAT recorder. If the recorder is on before inserting the cable, the weird sound comes immediately when inserting, if the DAT is off the weird sound comes when powering on the DAT. The same happens when taking the optical cable out.
Since this happened the first time the system sounds where gone (like when you empty the thrash bin etc.). After a restart I sort of got them back. The only system sound I get is a very tiny, short bleep, verry different from before. Also now sometimes several keys on the keyboard produce a sort of bleep (not mechanical I think) when I use them.
Anybody experience this too? My previous PB 17" (G4 1,67) didn't have this weird sound, whether the DAT was on or off.

Mac_Dutch, I think that as long as you have the Dat recorder on you will get this sound. This is feed back the same as plugging in a Guitar into and Amplifier that is turned on..
On restart you will notice a similar sound momentarly as the computer either comes awake or restart as it boot up and starts all the process...Cheers...Don

  • High beep + bass makes weird sound, Inspire P580

    Hello,
I switched rooms today. And now when I turn on the 5.1 using the audio controller, I get a very high beep. Before, the beep wasn't this loud. And also when I turn up the bass, it makes a very weird sound. I check everthing, everything is plugged in correctly but I don't know what to do. I know it's not the software.
    Hopefully somebody can help me.
    Thanks by advance
    Jascha

I have a GigaWorks S750, today i turned on the speaker to listen to my computer, i started the music and i only hear big distortion, i turned of the music and found out that the speakers putting out a frequent beeb, and as i turn up the volume i get a tone of higher and higher frequency beep but not a louder beep, the subwoofer just makes some short noises sometimes.. and i have checked all the cables and they are ok.. i listened directly from my soundcard with my headphones and it sounded ok, i also tried my headphones by putting them into the headphone port on the decoder and it sounded as it should there two
i am almost sure this has something to do with the electronics in the subwoofer to do, cause i dont belei've 7 speakers would stop working at the same time.
This is so bad, i had just gotten my Xbox360 today and now i cant use it on my suround system.
