Weird stroke occurence

I am going crazy trying to figure this one out. I am using InDesign CS3 5.03 Windows XP. I have created several picture boxes with a black .25 pt stroke applied to them. However, the top of the picture box is missing the stroke in every picture box. So, in essence, I have a picture box that appears to only have 3 sides. Does any one know what is going on.

You, or someone else, deleted the top segment in the frame. Go to Object > Convert Shape > Retangle.

  • OBIEE Answers - Weird error occurence

    In Answers, I have defined a few items and when they are all hidden the request gets executed fine. If I unhide even a single one of them, then I get the following error:-
    Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).

    Its really confusing and so any help in this regard will be appreciated
    Thanks

    I found the solution to my problem:
    1) First fix: There were blanks at the end of month names... That fixed the problem for several requests, but not all
    2) 2nd fix: In the time dimension I used month_number as the primary key, but it is month_name that is used for drilldown and is show to the user on the web interface...
    It was pretty simple, yes...

  • Weird Screen Occurences

    iBook G4: 1.07 Ghz Processor, 768MB RAM, 27.82 GB HD
    Screen:
    1) has become "color pixilated": splotches of color from icons and background al over the screen, but they aren't viewable and don't appear to be in any rational order,
    and
    2) will seem to "quadruple up": screen will not be clear because the images on it (i.e. background, open windows, etc.) appear to replicate and move over enough to make nothing on the screen viewable really.
    The only thing that seems to fix this problem is holding down the power button and restarting the iBook.
    Under 3 yr. warranty through May 2007, and under additional double warranty from 2 previous repairs (after the first one is when the screen problems began to arise, which is why it was sent back exactly one (1) week later).
    Any ideas as to what could be going on? I probably will just end up bringing it back to the Mac Store in Albany, but asking my Dad to bring me the 50+ miles to the store is not something that I enjoy doing too too much. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks a bunch.
    -Joel

    Well, we brought it back a bunch of more times and Apple just replaced it for me. There was something just inherently wrong with that one laptop, but this new one seems to be working Much better. I would just like to say that this is exactly what AppleCare is for, and I'm most grateful for it 'cause it saved me about $3,000 or so with all the repairs plus the value of the new one!

    With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
    what version of iPhoto are you using?
    what system version are you running?
    were the prom pictures on the iPhone 3 to begin with?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
    did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
    are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
    how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Objects with stroke acting weird

    I am trying to align an object with a stroke to margins. Dimensions include stroke weight is checked off. But the stroke aligns, not the object box.
    The image has a stroke, the outside of the stroke aligns and not the object box. So if the stroke is changed or removed, my image alignment is now off.
    I never noticed this behaviour before, so I am assuming it's something that has been changed. Or I adjusted a default way back when and forgot about it. Is there a fix I'm missing?

    Gex,
    As I (mis)read the OP, that would be expected behaviour, which might bring the number of reasons back down to 741; or, which might on the contrary confirm that it is indeed the 742nd:
    When you set the stroke to outside, which in appearance corresponds exactly to offsetting the path by half the stroke weight, you convince Illy that you actually want to move the appearance of the path outward, and she is already convinced that a fill should go to the centre of the stroke as always, so when you expand it, thereby replacing the actual artwork by a simpler one with the same appearance, she complies with what she genuinely believes is what you want.
    You could have fooled me, and I believe we might see more complaints if it worked the other way.
    I am with Illy on this, but maybe I am getting too old, too.

  • Java.lang.NoSuchMethodError weird occurence

    Hi..
    I know there are hell a lot Qs on "java.lang.NoSuchMethodError"..But I checked almost every java forum and none of them answer my situation correctly..
    Initialy I had two files
    1)test.java
    public class test{
    public static void main(String a []) {
    System.out.println(";");
    2)javac.java
    public class javac{
    public static void main(String a []) {
    System.out.println(";");
    I compiled both the files.Both were working fine. After some time I recompiled test.java.This time it gives
    "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main"..The same file on recompilation...
    But the other file javac stil working fine(I din dare to recompile it since now whatever file I compile has this problem)...
    Im sure this is not a classpath problem or else we might getting NoClassDeffound error. Also there is nothing wrong in the main method declaration.
    Anybody can explain this behaviour?

    paulcw thanks for your replies...
    But I think you misunderstood my issue...
    OKI ..I still have the problem so let me explain it properly..
    Now I have the file test.java with the following content which I already compiled and can execute also...
    import java.io.*;
    public class test{
    public static void main(String a[]){
    String record = "0001 - LE1 - 850 - bytes - JPEG - JAL - 128X96 - 128x96_1k_jpg.jpg";
    String [] spiltvalues = record.split(" - ");
    for( String i: spiltvalues )
    System.out.println( i );
    On execution:
    D:\Data>java test
    0001
    LE1
    850
    bytes
    JPEG
    JAL
    128X96
    128x96_1k_jpg.jpg
    Now I move the source to some other directory(the same file) Im not changing anything.It compiles fine.When I execute I get
    D:\>java test
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main
    Now I copy the test.class of previously complied,sucessfully executed class file to D: and replace the class file which cannot be executed.
    D:\>java test
    0001
    LE1
    850
    bytes
    JPEG
    JAL
    128X96
    128x96_1k_jpg.jpg
    So this cannot be a path issue also. Both cases I haven changed the source even if I have changed please see the source I have posted..I don find any mistakes in the code.
    Im nt sure if something wrong with my javac/java exes...Before I reinstal I want to find the problem..
    Your reply is appreciated..Thanks..

  • Weird occurence with sending mail to trash

    When I send an open email to trash, I get an irregular pattern of black blocks that flashes across the top half of my screen ? Anyone else ever see this ?
    Looks like Ill be going back for phone #3.

    Is it like a black and grey checker pattern? I have noticed this when I try to scroll through an email or webage that hasnt fully loaded yet. Maybe when it is putting the open email in the trash it hasn't loaded the email behind it that it is going to display next. You say it flashes, does the next email or empty screen display after the "flash"?
    Maybe try a reset to your phone.

  • Weird Glitch in my E90

    Hey Guys,
    I've had my E90 for the better part of a year now and I never had a problem with it. If anything, its the best phone I ever bought. Anyway, about a week or two back, the phone froze (it does that very rarely) and I turned it off. When I turned it back on it took longer than usual. When it rebooted, I noticed that all my messages (Inbox, Drafts, Sent Items, Email Messages) have been deleted. I also had Worldmate installed and that was deleted too.
    Yesterday I needed Worldmate so I went to the "Download!" menu, where it told me it needed to refresh the catalouge data or something like that. Anyway, it starts refreshing then gives me an error message "Some catalogs failed to load". The files all appear (Fun & Achievement, Internet, Security, Communications, Others) but when I click on one of them and see the applications, I can't go back, I have to go Options --> Exit to be able to go back. Also, I tried to download Worldmate and another program. It downloads, then it asks if I want to install, and when I accept, it freezes for about 5 seconds and doesn't install.
    I then went to the Installations Menu, where I found all my applications showing but not Worldmate. Inside Application Manager, I only see 2 of my 6 installed applications. Then I found out that I can't even remove/uninstall software. Everything else works fine.
    In summary, here are the issues I have:
    - E90 V 07.40.1.2 Froze, rebooted with messages and 1 application deleted.
    -Unable to install applications
    -Unable to remove/uninstall applications
    By the way I am using a Mac and don't think I can use PC Suite to install and uninstall applications. If there's a way to do that on a Mac, please let me know. (The glitch happened before I switched to mac.)

    Hi, I've experienced some of the strange occurence you mentioned one time or another but not all at once, the only time I've lost apps is after I made an upgrade to latest FW 210.34.75.
    That's when I discovered one of the bilingual dictionary was deleted without a trace, even backup & restore didn't help, freeze & rebooting also happened once in a while but I didn't notice any weird effect.

  • Stroked type in ID not aligning w/stroke in PDF

    I have a weird situation, and I'm thinking it's related to the particular font, not anything in InDesign, per se.
    I have some black type with a tiny (.05pt) stroke applied in ID (CS5.5). Everything looks fine on screen. However when I export a PDF, the type doesn't align with the strokes — it's as if different kerning/tracking has been applied to the type, but not the strokes. It's not all the type, and not on every line, but most of it has this "ghosting" or "halo" look to it when you zoom in to the PDF.
    We've run similar type treatments in different fonts, and this didn't happen. I've tried a variety of PDF export settings (Press Quality, PDF/X-4, 1a) even exporting to IDML and bringing it into CS4. I'm not changing the fonts to outlines (I've read threads about how outlined text w/strokes caused issues) and there is no transparency. (As a test, I did try Isolate Blending and flattening, but that rastered all the type into jaggy bitmaps.)
    There's also something I haven't normally seen (because I don't normally look) but it looks like the font is listed twice in the Fonts list in the Document settings — once ansi encoded and once again with Custom encoding.
    This is what makes me think it's the font.

    This is how it appears in Acrobat X:
    The font is Cochin LT Std (OT) Roman. This is how it's listed as an embedded font in the PDF:
    For what it's worth, because it may be related, I've seen weirdness with some fonts when rendered in a PDF before. Sometimes it appears if the type is improperly kerned. (We started seeing that, rarely, when we moved to CS5 from 4 and started using PDF/X-4 instead of 1a.) I've actually seen it on occasion where the letters transpose, as if there were negative kerning amounts in the hundreds applied, the letters appearing on top of each other and in different order. (CS2 & 3)
    All these instances look as they should in InDesign, but the aberrations appear in the PDF (typically viewed in Acrobat, but also visible in Illustrator and Preview).
    Further testing suggests that the stroke and type are rendered independently of each other. If I open the PDF in Illustrator, I need the font installed for the type to render properly. However if I turn the font off, the type is rendered in a substitute font but the strokes are not — they are still rendered as outlines in the shape of the original glyphs.

  • Color Swatches in Toolbar for Fill and Stroke are not working properly.

    The color swatches in toolbar for fill and stroke are not functioning as they should.  When I select an object on the artboard, the swatches display fine in the toolbar for what they should be.  However, when I double-click on those swatches from within the toolbar to modify the color, the color which comes up is #000000 instead of the actual color it should be.
    I am using 16.2.1 (cloud) for Mac OS 10.8.2
    I've submitted a bug report, but want to know if anyone else has had this issue and what they did to resolve the issue.
    Also, the eyedropper tool is buggy and occasionally places the #000000 into an object instead of the characteristics the eyedropper is selecting.  I don't have any hidden layers or weird groupings, it just randomly decides when it is going to work or not.
    I've never had these issues on previous versions of illustrator and have been proficient in all versions since 2007.

    Double click the eyedropper, and turn on appearance, is off by default.
    For your #000000 color problem that also likely is related to appearance setting. You may have for example have some with #000000 at the character level, and another color at the type level.

  • Stroke thumbnail view in brush presets panel in CS6 doesn't represent pressure sensitivity

    Everytime I open photoshop the stroke thumbnail shows up with lost settings.  I can hover my pen over brush presets and press ctrl+F1 and it will change back but when i open up photoshop cs6 it does not show what the brush setting are with the stroke thumnail and I have to do it again. I know how to correct it temporarily but I would like a permanent fix for this as it is quite annoying. I have tried to open it with just my pen from my tablet and it does not help. I am running windows 7. cintiq tablet.

    Hey JJMack!
    Thank you for your response! Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be my issue. I actually think I may be running into a bug with PS6. It seems like the stroke thumbnail preview might not be receiving the information that there is pressure sensitivity turn on my cintiq.
    Here is an example below..
    As you can see here the brush I have selected obviously has pressure sensitivity and PS6 is recognizing that. But for some reason that information is not being communicated to the stroke thumbnail preview.
    What's even weirder is when you go into that brush's presets the preview below shows the stroke thumbnail fine!
    I am wondering if maybe I have some weird preference turned on hidden away somewhere... or if this is an actual bug with the program.
    thanks guys!

  • Why are my Illustrator images getting thicker strokes when I take the bounding box and make them smaller?

    Why are my Illustrator images getting thicker strokes when I take the bounding box and make them smaller? This has never happened to me. I'm not an expert at Illustrator, but I do know some fundamentals.

    Thank you for responding so quickly. No apologies necessary - I know this Forum isn't McDonalds - don't expect an answer to be served up right away. You helped me out with a big issue yesterday.
    I am using a mac - OSX 10.7.5
    I have Adobe Creative Suites - CS5 - Illustrator version is 15.0.2
    The contents I am placing are all  Vector - Illustrator files
    But, I wonder about some of the vector files I work with.  Could a "line weight/thickness" be 'assigned' to the drawing and screw things up? I used 'simple' linear (line) drawings from SolidWorks that have been converted to ai files. It's just weird because I checked the stroke of the drawing and it's not out of line.
    I am attaching part of some box labels. You can see how the drawings, of the products, on the 'left side' are "thick" after embedding them. I think the "Global Logo" was pasted into a template not linked that's why it's okay. But look at the Quiet Thunder logo - it looks terrible. These labels are only 2.25" X 6.5", so its important I keep the images lightweight.
    Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Stroke showing on text, even when disabled?

    This is very odd.
    I have done this a thousand times, and not had a problem. Basically I tried putting a gradient into text, and nothing happened. I tried it on a shape, and it worked fine. So I went to the appearances panel and added a new fill for the text. It worked, but even with the stroke disabled, there is still a weird glitchy outline around the text???
    I tried exporting the file as  PDF to check if this is just showing up in program...but it shows up in the outputted PDF too!!!
    Anyone have any idea what is going on??? Please see the screenshot attached. Thanks for your help. PS you will need to click the image to enlarge it to see what's going on.

    Thanks both of you. This worked.
    However, now whenever I add a gradient to text I have to always do it by going to the appearance panel and adding a new fill there to get the gradient to show up at all. Simply selecting the gradient button with the text selected, or selecting a preset gradient from swatches now does nothing, the text remains black.
    I then, as you suggested, have to double click 'characters' and remove the solid colour fill.
    Kindof odd?
    Thanks again for your help though

  • The result of sorting Chinese is weird

    I am evaluating Oracle 9i's Chinese sorting feature.
    I insert several Chinese records into a UTF-8 database, set my client session's NLS_SORT parameter to one of the Chinese sorts Oracle 9i supplied, then retrieve the ordered result.
    From the view of a native Chinese user, I find the result is weird. It is sorted based not on Pinyin nor on Stroke count. So what's the matter?

    Select * from SChinese order by Chinese;
    And

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Barry,
    Thanks for your prompt reply.
    At first I created a table with a Nvarchar column in it. Then I populated the data from the above table to another table with a varchar column. The ordering results are the same.

  • Typography with a thin stroke and a fat problem...

    ok... <sigh>
    My client chose this thick type that didnt look good and asked me to thin it out. I decided to do it by adding a 0.25 stroke inside all the fonts i didnt want bold (its like 70% of a 6 page document). When i was sending the pdf to the client i had to export it in pdfx1a because it was the only type of pdf that didnt show this weird shadow underneath. Well, document is on the printer and thats done, I hope it doesnt become a problem when printing. MY PROBLEM NOW is that i need to convert this document into a PDF that can be distributed through email. I have tried everything. I have converted to outlines and the file is huge. I have converted to jpg and that was just a plain mistake. I have used all the pdf formats and it still shows that weird shadow. Its like the type is embossed. PDFX1A is the only way it works well, but the file ends up huge in size. What is happening here? How can i fix this? please help!
    thank you in advance...
    Intermediate graphic designer with a rookie situation...

    The problem is that the outline of each single character is output to the PDF as a *vector object*. So you now have a document with lots of vector data; and vector data cannot be compressed as easily as a bitmap (JPEG, for example, only works so well because it *throws away* large parts of the data).
    In addition, you can see the difference between outlined and regular text *on screen* because these two types of object are drawn in a different way. Outlined strokes are drawn as normal vector art, one straight line at a time; "actual" text, on the other hand, is drawn with super-optimized routines, both for efficiency and speed, and to render as legible as possible. (But -- usually -- the difference disappears when you are outputting on a device with a sufficiently high resolution.)
    Removing the outline strokes from the text will help immensely. Of course the text will look slightly different, but only when compared directly to the printed matter. On-screen display will be much better and your PDF size will be a lot smaller.
