Weird Symbols in my Tabs?

The Problem: There are weird symbols in my tabs that I don't know how to get rid of. They are highlighted in pink, which indicates to me that they are an unrecognized font or symbol. I cannot figure out how to get rid of them and return my tabs to normal display.
The Process: While adding tabs I decided that I wanted an unbroken line between columns, and tried to figure out how to do that. While messing around I right-clicked Leader>Insert Unicode Control Character and selected one of the options. (I don't know which) I think it was after that that the funny symbols appeared. Now I just want white space in between columns/on tabs and I can't figure out how to get rid of those pinked-out symbols.
Tenchical Info: InDesign CS4, Windows 7

Tried it. Found out it was the same font as text surrounding it. (Adobe Garamound Pro, Regular and Italic) Changed one segmant to Airal and instead of the pink text, it was replaced with this T-like symbols with arrows on top: (circled in blue)
Hopefully this will now clue someone in to what's going on.

  • Score printed with weird symbol helpp

the notes on the score turned to be some weird symbol, but the staff's still there
and the score's looking pretty fine on my macbk, it just went nuts when i printed it out
is it the prob of the pdf/preview setting or sth else?
    any thoughts?

I've heard of this issue with laser printers, and it usually involves fonts not being loaded correctly. This is the first I've heard of it being a problem with an inkjet. Hmmm...
Here are some thing to try (in order, test printing after each):
    1) Restart both printer and computer
2)Download and install the latest HP printer driver for your printer from HP's website
    3) Create a new (admin) user account and see if the problem exists there.
    4) Report back here

Can you identify the symbol using the above guide?

Just a friendly comment that the list described on this link is incomplete.  If you are a rep of the site, you should update it to include additional symbols, such as the personal hotspot icon, the LTE icon, and the bluetooth device battery level icon.

  • New itunes license agreement in weird symbols

i'm not going to accept a license agreement written in boxes and other weird symbols. is there a fix for this?

In the 'Apple Software Update' program, I'm also getting this little blurb below the availabe software list that describes the new iTunes as such:
'Rent and download your favorite movies with iTunes on your computer or directly to your living room on Apple TV. Enjoy rented movies in sizes up to 720p HD with surround sound on your Apple TV and sizes up to DVD-quality on your computer. Transfer your rented movies from iTunes to your iPod or iPhone and enjoy them on the go.
Also, purchase and download your favorite TV shows, music, and more directly on your Apple TV. Effortlessly transfer purchases made on Apple TV back to your computer with iTunes.'
Is this indeed the case for Canadians? (That would be sweet, of course, but I'm doubtful). I should just accept and find out, I suppose.

  • Weird Symbol On Cover Page

I have a new book in iPhoto 11 ready to order but there remains a weird symbol on the cover page outside the normal text box. I can't delete it and it shows up in the preview, pfd view, and slideshow view so I am not ready to pay for the book until I figure out how to remove it. It look like the bottom half of a capital "A". There doesn't seem to be any text box tho edit.
    Any thoughts?

Same here, but I'm stuck with a lowercase f on the cover. (lower right corner)
It seems to be part of the background.
When I change the layout to a full page image, even with a text field, the annoying f is hidden.
All other layouts show the unremovable f.
Every form of preview shows it as well.
    Help appreciated...

  • Macbook Keyboard Only Types Weird Symbols

Yesterday my macbook all of a sudden started typing only weird symbols. Every key pressed provides these weird symbols. I have searched for answers on how to fix this but none seem to work:
I have plugged in an external keyboard and that works, so it isn't the OS/software, it is the laptops keyboard.
I have cleaned the "alt keys" in case they were sticking.
I have checked my preferences and the US American Flag is selected.
I am completely open to starting from scratch and resetting the entire system but it doesn't appear to be a solution to this problem.
Any help would be appreciated. I can bring it into a apple store but was hoping I could figure it out through here first.
    Thank you.

    Odd!
Has anything been spilled on the computer at any point in time? Are you under warranty?
I missed the bit about the external keyboard working. You may have a hardware issue that needs repair or replacement.
If you computer has a removable battery, save your work, connect the AC adapter then remove the battery. Does the keyboard still act strangely with the keyboard removed?

All of my other key is fine but only 4 or 5 of them is acting this way. I look around and had try using the cap, control/option and all the f key but that does not seem to solve the problem. My macbook is no longer under warranty so I can't go there for help as it would be crazy expensive. Can someone please help. If I do take it to an professional either the apple store or any computer repair place, how much would you think it cost to fix this problem

  • Weird Symbol with Startup! Help!!

    Hello! I've got a 2005 iMac G5 (no iSight) and i'm running OSX 10.3.9.
For the past three days, when i try to start up my iMac, a weird symbol appears that resembles a gray square with a globe in the center of it. It will blink for about 10-15 seconds and then it will change to a blinking file with a question mark over it.
I've got a feeling this has something to do with my wireless network, but i'm not sure what? Is it possible that a setting that got changed on a PC in the network is causing this? Please let me know ASAP and thanks for your help!
    -Dave

You should press the X key as soon as you hear the startup chime; alternatively, you can hold down the Option key at the same time, select your hard disk in the list, and push the button with the straight arrow. In this case, you will need to reselect your hard disk as the startup disk from the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

  • Weird symbols appear in browser view? + FTP error + Personalising templates

    Hi there.
1/ I'm trying to get a small photography portfolio site set up to show potential clients but after uploading to my Karoo ISP 25mb free space, on the gallery page, there is a weird 'A' type symbol at the top and bottom of the albums? My site is : www.fluttershutter.me.uk
2/I was also trying to upload my site late last night and kept getting an error about my FTP not working (using built in iWEB publisher) and to contact my ISP or try again later. It would not upload the latest 'about me' page I added. Would this indicate I'd reached my 25mb limit, as I deleted some images and it then uploaded and worked ok... albeit font weirdness above and for the fact that when viewing on work PC's on internet explorer, only the home page had changed from the day before and all my new changes/pages hadn't updated and images were really low res on album display.
3/As I am personalising the templates to get a cleaner look for my portfolio, can anyone offer any good links to sites explaining ways to create my own style sheet (just for font type, colour) so I don't have to change every element on each new page as I experiment with my design, which is always evolving? I really don't have time with work commitments to learn Dreamweaver etc. Really appreciate input on the above?

Free hosting doesn't always provide the best in features and support. If you haven't decided on a host look at HostExcellence. Roddy uses it and has nothing but praise for it's customer support and available features. Last time I visited their site they had some pretty good deals going on with domain names and hosting services. I have my domain name with GoDaddy.com and they had some good deals recently.

  • Weird symbol in file name and images by pixel instead of size?

i my filenames i sometimes see a weird box with what looks like a script "x". is this some kind of default symbol that indicates i am using a non standard symbol in this file name? it sometimes happens after i drag and drop something say from my desktop to my laptop.
also, is there any chance of being able to see pixel size of images in a Finder window in addition to or instead of File size?
    Thanks.

    Some things about this.
    1. Ignore the back slash in front of the space.  That's the terminal shell convention for escaping (making significant) special characters that follow the back slash (in this case a space).
    2. A pathname like ~/foo/bar is another shell convention where the tilde is a shorthand for your home directory.
    3. I am not convinced that the weird stuff is not there in the Finder display.  I think it just doesn't show in the Finder's desktop font.
    4. I am going to use your example for the following discussion.  Extrapolate where needed.
The terminal shows a pathname like /Users/homename/Desktop/_evolute\ tutes, i.e. with some kind of garbage character(s) after tutes.
In terminal type cp followed by a space and drag that tutes file into the terminal window.  I think it will look something like this (don't hit return yet).
    cp /Users/homename/Desktop/_evolute\ tutes
Now type a space and add ~/Desktop/foobar on to the end of the line.  It should now look like the following:
    cp /Users/homename/Desktop/_evolute\ tutes  ~/Desktop/foobar
Hit return.  You should see a file called foobar on your desktop (unless you get an error because the shell didn't like those special characters at the end of the pathname, in which case we have to quote it, but ignore that for now and we can address that in a followup post).  All this did was copy your file to the desktop with a different name, foobar in this case.
Now I propose that the file foobar is named just that.  If you throw that in the trash, do a get info on it, or drag it back into the terminal window, it should still be just the name foobar.  Nothing else at the end of it.
If all this goes as I described, then the moral of all this is that however that original problematic file (or files) was created somehow something added those non-printable characters to the end of the name.  In some fonts it shows as best the font being used can show it.  In others they remain invisible because there is no representation in that particular font.
...on the other hand, I could just be wrong about all of this!
