Weird system crash when trying to install Photoshop CS2

It gets to "Running installer script" and then nothing. I only have a movable cursor at this point. I can't even force-quit. I'm left to force a shutdown with the power button.
I've tried Hardware test and the computer passed. I check the disk in disk utility - was fine. I even tried copying the photoshop disk to the HD and run it from there... crashed the same way.
Anyone have any ideas?

Frank, not sure if this is quite your problem, but there is a known issue with Photoshop CS2 and Intel based macs after the last security update. If you install Photoshop CS2 then the computer will no longer boot properly.
The solution is to start up in "safe" mode (by booting the Mac with the shift key held down - this may take a while as "safe mode" involves a full directory check and repair if necessary) . Once it has booted remove Adobe VersionCueCS2 from /Library/StartupItems.
If this is not done then the only way to boot the computer is by Netboot, CD boot or Safeboot.
Adobe are apparently promising a fix. see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2358601#2358601

  • "Shared Resources error" when trying to install Photoshop Elements 11

I keep getting installation error "Shared Resources error" when trying to install Photoshop Elements 11 (Windows 7).  Any advice will be appreciated..

    Welcome to the forum, Ted,
Here's an older "Shared Technologies" thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3155897#3155897
But, I am not sure that we were ever able to help the OP, and they never reported back with the responses from Adobe. Still, might be a tip that is useful.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
[Edit] I mis-spoke. The OP and another user with the same error WERE helped. What I saw initially was yet another poster, who was going to contact Adobe, but never came back to the thread. In the case of the OP and another users, the issue was caused by having Adobe Bridge, included with other Adobe programs, like Photoshop and Premiere Pro, running. When they killed that, the installation went well.

Delete the media_db.db in your Adobe caps folder.
use win explorer (win) or finder (mac) to locate your caps folder, or google with a reference to your os.

  • I have been trying to install Photoshop CS2 but it fails, why?

It is always at the same loading point, "control packet" and then it crashes, why?
I got the idea from here -> Grab Photoshop and CS2 For Absolutely Free Right Here And it is not a virus, promise
Anyway, I have installed Photoshop CS2 on my other computer so it could be that reason, but I don't think so.
    Please help

First off, the article you link to is WRONG. Adobe have absolutely NOT made CS2 "free" - the replacement download is only legally available to customers who already owned a copy of the CS2 applications and couldn't reinstall them because the activation servers were closed down. If you don't have a genuine paid-for license for CS2 from back in the day, you are not allowed to use it. Period.
Also, CS2 is old. It's not designed to run on modern operating systems.

  • Extension Manager 2.1 for Mac crashes when trying to install any extension

    Hi,
I have the Adobe Extension Manager 2.1 installed on a Mac running Mac OS X 10.5.6.  I updated all the latest Adobe and Apple software.
I tried to install MXP files for Adobe AIR, jQuery, and Drupal, but doing so crashes the Extension Manager.  I tried uninstalling it using the Photoshop installer (which is what installed the Manager initially), but this didn't help.
The Manager also crashes when I try to open the Help > About the dialogue, both from the main window and from the menu bar.
Can anyone help me with this?  Thanks in advance!
    Rémi

Reading the thread linked below resolved my problem.  I only had to uninstall Safari 4 Beta before I could use the Extension Manager.

  • Invalid signature when trying to install Photoshop CC extension using the Adobe Extension Manager CC and default installed Photoshop CC extensions won't load

I have a Creative Cloud subscription for Photoshop CC. All Creative Clouds products are updated to the latest versions. When I tried to install Tony Kuyper's TKActionv3 Photoshop extension using the Adobe Extension Manager CC on my PC desktop, I received an error message that the extension contained an invalid signature and wouldn't be installed. I had previously installed the extension on my laptop without any problems. At the same time, I also noticed the default installed Photoshop CC extensions (e.g., Adobe Exchange, Kuler, Mini Bridge, Behance) could not be loaded using the Windows/Extension command. I receive an error message that the command could not be completed because the extension could not be loaded. After contacting Tony Kuyper, he suggested that I try the steps mentioned in the following weblink: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6029768. The steps basically consist of uninstalling and reinstalling all the Creative Cloud apps associated with Photoshop CC. I tried the steps multiple times, but I am still having the same problems. I can find the default installed Photoshop CC extensions on my machine, so I don't know why they can't be loaded.
    Thanks for your assistance,
    Mark Curtis

    Hi Mark
You say everything is up to date?  And you have tried reinstalling all the CC apps?  Is Windows also fully up to date?  Hmmm...  That could be tricky.
What version of Windows are you using?  Have a look in Task Manager > Processes and see if 'CEPServiceManager.exe *32' is listed as running?
If not, I don't know where it would be installed from, and we'd need someone like Chris Cox to join the thread to tell us, but my guess is that it would install along with the CC Desktop Application Manager.  Windows 8.1 can be problematic, and a bit fussy about the order of things, and it is definitely worth adopting best practice when installing your CC apps.  That means restarting your computer, and right clicking the Desktop Application manager and running as Administrator.
How many CC apps are you running?  If just Photoshop, Bridge, Expansion manager etc. then - and I hate to say this - perhaps have another go at reinstalling, but run the Cleaning tool after uninstalling.
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Try some other Extensions before the Tony Kuyper's TKActionv3.  GuideGuide is a favourite of mine, as well as Dmonzon tools, and maybe Russell Brown's Flypaper Textures.
I have to say that I have had problems with the CC Extension Manager a while back, but simply reinstalling just the Extension Manager fixed it.  Perhaps CEPServiceManager.exe *32 installs with Extension Manager?  Heck, maybe start with just trying that before reinstalling all your CC apps.
If you are still stuck, I'd risk sending Chris Cox a PM, but not until you triple check that your video card driver is up to date from the card maker's website.
Good luck, and be sure to let us know how you get on.

  • System crashes when attempting to install 10.6.  Keeps asking to restart.  Computer is a Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor and 2 GB Memory.

I have tried to install 10.6 and when install is complete it says restart.  The computer restarts but keeps coming to a gray screen with a small black box that says to restart.  The processor is 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon with 2 GB of memory.  This should be more than adequate.  Any ideas?  Has anyone encountered this before?  I had to restore 10.5 from Time Machine.

Your sig line says iMac, but TMK no iMacs were ever made with 2x2.66 GHz processors. Is this a Mac Pro you are installing on? Are you using a retail Snow Leopaard DVD?

  • System freeze when trying to install 10.2 (Jaguar) on a biege G3

I'm trying to install 10.2 on a partition on my G3 hard drive. The machine specs are:
    400Mhz G3
    384 Meg RAM
    OS9.2.2
    ROM Id $77D.45F2
When I try to restart with the install CD, the machine freezes completely. The only way I've been able to recover is by removing the backup battery for about 45 minutes. Then the machine will restart in 9.2.
What am I missing? I'm following the 'read me' directions and the on-screen prompts.
    Thanks
G3   Mac OS 9.2.x   Desktops and powerbooks

    Andrew -
Guess I wasn't too clear as to what is happening.
But first, yes I am using a perfectly legal (purchased) copy of Jaguar. And I checked the update criteria - since I don't have an Apple SCSI card, there are no updates for a G3.
Now, as to what happens. When I insert disk 1 and click "install" I get a message that the computer will be restarted and the installation will begin. The screen goes blank. And nothing happens! No restart, no CD activity - nothing. And I can't restart into OS9!
The machine is dead until I remove the backup battery for a while. Then I can restart in OS9, and everything works.
Hope this clears up what my problem is.

  • System Crashes when trying to print or save a document

Since upgrading to OS10.6.5, our system crashes (usually the affected software becomes non-responsive, but sometimes the entire computer freezes) whenever trying to print, clicking on printers/faxes within the preferences panel, trying to save a "Pages" or "Word" document, and "Excel" doesn't work. I've run virus scans, but have not located any. Suggestions?

There is a strong likelihood that your virus scanner software is causing you problems.
There is no need for virus scanning software on a Mac.
I suggest you uninstalling it using the uninstall procedure from the vendor who wrote and see if that helps clear up any of your problems.

  • Crashes when trying to install

    Trying to install iWork 05:
When installer program trys to run I get:
"installer package needs to run a program" - -
then shuts down before I can click "continue"
    Please advise! MP

This doesn't appear to be a problem specific to iWork, but with Apple's installer program since it is quitting before it even gets to the iWork installer. Try the usually basic troubleshooting steps.
]Does it work if you try to install from another account on your Mac?
]Use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
]Start up from your eMac or Panther install disk & use Disk Utility to repair disk
]Use a maintenance utility to run the cron scripts & clean caches such as YASU or OnyX.

  • App Store on 3GS crashes when trying to install apps after iOS4

Is anyone experiencing this too? Every time it tries to install an app from the 3GS, it bombs out to home. Installing through syncing with iTunes on my iMac works fine however... no more installing free useless apps on the move for me... have to do it on the mac... stupid really!

Same problem here on 3GS with 4.01.
I can update apps, but if I try to buy/install a new one, the app store promptly crashes.
    Any ideas?

  • System crash when trying to connect IPod touch (blue screen)

    Hello all!
All of a sudden, my computer running on Windows XP doesn't recognize my iPod touch anymore. Changing the USB-Port and re-installing iTunes did not help. The actualization of the driver resulted in the system to recognize the iPod for a couple of seconds, but then the system crashed and a blue screen appeared, which made it necessary to restart the system. I had the same thing four times today now and have absoultely no idea what else I could do. Can anyone help?
    Thank you in advance!
