Weird telnet delay

I have mail on three different POP servers (let's call them P1,P2 and P3).
Mac Mail on my MacBook Air can access P1 & P2, but recently stopped working with P3 (about three weeks ago).
The Mail settings are all correct (i've checked many, many times).
To diagnose, I've tried to use telnet under Terminal.
I can connect immediately to P1 & P2, but P3 waits for exactly 60 seconds before I get the "OK ready" response from the server. I assume that Mail fails to connect because its timeout is less than 60 seconds?
I repeated the telnet test from my iMac on the same WiFi network and it works immediately with all three POP servers.
Also, Mac Mail works perfectly on the iMac.
I've contacted tech support at the relevant ISP, but all they could suggest was the usual - reboot the modem and the MacBook.
Does anybody out there have the remotest idea what could be causing this strange behaviour?
Barry,
Australia

The input is mono. All the other tracks recorded fine and still playback correctly. It just happend all of a sudded im asuming it could be a software monitoring problem as it doesnt happen when im not software monitoring but i need to so i can hear if what im plaing sounds ok. Its just really random it happend all of a sudden without me changing and settings....

  • I am getting weird delivery delayed notifications from postmaster@mac.***

When I send my wife an email to her icloud/me/mac.com address, recently I started getting notices from postmaster@mac.*** that say delivery has been delayed and that the email account I'm trying to reach is over quota. Yet, my wife gets the email and insists she's cleaning out her inbox.
The really weird thing is, the email notice contains a "recipient address" and an "original address." The "original address" is my wife's email, but the "recipient address" is a weird google address.
My father-in-law says he's getting the same strange notices, but no one else she's emailing with seems to be having the same problem.
I'm just concerned because of the weird google address.
    Help.
    <Email Edited By Host>

    It's not malware.
What's going on is one of two things. One possibility would be e-mail spoofing. Spammers almost never send messages from a legit address. They usually fake the From line, adding someone else's e-mail address there. You could be the lucky victim. Of course, that wouldn't explain those messages only going to people you have contacted, but as you haven't given us many details, I'm unsure that this isn't simply coincidence that you're misinterpreting.
The other possibility would be that a hacker still has access to your account. I'm not familiar with Hotmail, but some free e-mail services have features that can provide a hacker a back door. For example, on GMail, there is a setting that allows you to grant access to other people... so once a hacker has access to your GMail account, they can set it so that they can get back in any time, and changing your password will not help one bit. Hotmail may have some similar weakness.
It could also be that your account is getting hacked repeatedly. Hotmail accounts are known for being easily hacked, though I don't know whether this is an inherent weakness in Hotmail or just due to having a large population of unsavvy users who use weak passwords. In any case, it's a high-profile target. Are you using secure passwords or weak passwords? Are you frequently accessing your Hotmail account over an unsecured wireless network?

  • Weird "offset delay" on bounce after scissors

Bad title but need to explain scenario
Create new project, single instrument track (I use line-in)
Record something anything for e.g. 2 mins)
DON'T replay or listen to it
Use the scissors tool to chop e.gf. the last 5 seconds and delete the trailing chopped region
Bounce to e.g. M3 or AIF and the sound in the bounced track is slipped by 20 seconds in the media (resulting in losing the last 20 seconds as the length of the media is correct (as per region) so 20 second slip moved last 20 seconds outside bounce region
    Repeat and same, etc.
Play e.g last 10 seconds of region (to after end of region)
repeat bounce and it is all fine, no 20 second slip.
(The times are not critical and are just ballpark examples i.e. you don't need a 2 hr recording, but the "slip" is always 20 seconds).
Any ideas what I am doing wrong (I hesitate to accuse it if being a bug).
    Ian
All latest version of OS, Logic, etc.)

I've tried most of the ideas for resolving and none helped (but they did not seem to help others who had tried them either).
Got some of the work rounds to work - but then I had a work round already.
Having said it was probably my finger trouble rather than a bug, from what others have said sound like a bug and quite amazing how long it had been around without being fixed !! If its been there so long and not been fixed yet I suspect I/everybody will have to live with it for some time to come.
    Many thanks.

  • Preview of loops has effect on it (digital delay)??

Previewing my drum loops (all music loops actually) ... I'm picking up digital delay. Where is it coming from?
When I drag the loop to the arrange window the effect is still there ... even though there is no effect assigned to that particular audio track.
I'm just getting up to speed on this Logic update. So I'm at a loss. Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you.
    Ben

    Aha!!
This is only happening when I am using the beat mapping. I have a piece of audio I've 'beat-mapped'. Now I want to add a loop to it. But the loop previews, and the loops when I add them to the audio track, have some weird digital delay effect on them.
This isn't happening if I'm NOT doing a beat map. Everything is normal.

  • What do I have to do to get better latency

I'm using a Presonus Firebox with LS9.1.1 on an iMac Intel Core Duo @ 5.66GHz.
The lowest that I can get my I/O Buffer Size is 64 Samples.
    24 bit recording.
    Small Process Buffer Range.
    Software Monitoring is on.
    Latency compensation is on.
I could work at 64 samples but the latency when playing guitar and using software monitoring is a drag.
If I go down to 32 samples it gets all noisy and is unusable.
What do I have to do to get less latency on my system?
When I bought this iMac I thought it would be able to do the job.

If the only reason why you want to use software monitoring is because you want to be able to use plug in effect and hear them live, then there's a better way to do this. You use the built in latency-free monitoring offered by you audio interface. Then, in Logic, you keep software monitoring on, but you mute the input channel in Logic (so you don't hear the direct input signal, which will have a weird, slapback delay because it will be a fraction later than your interface's built-in monitoring). Then, using sends and busses (not inserts), you can send you guitar (or vocals or whatever) to as many plug in effects as you like. This way you could even work with a buffer setting of 128 or 256 which will put far less strain on your computer. The only thing is that the fx return will have a slight predelay to it, but this isn't necessarily undesirable, in fact it's a valid sound that is often intentionally created in a mix. In any case, it doesn't matter as it's only monitoring fx, to give you a nice sound to vibe with as you play, and it can be far more inspiring to be able to record with nice rich effects in monitoring (even if they are slightly pre-delayed), than having to put up with very distracting latency in your cans just because your computer can't give you the low buffer setting you want to use.
Seriously, make use of the zero latency function of your audio hardware and just use software monitoring to give yourself a bit of an effects return to help put yourself in the mood for recording.. it's a good compromise.

  • ProbLEMS! help!

Ok, so i have a few questions:
    1. The "do not disconnect" thing doesnt go away at all when its plugged into the computer.
    2. How do i transfer music/mp3 files already on my computer harddrive to my ipod?
    3. i download songs from other places too, and whenever i download something it goes straight to my itunes library, i dont want it to!
    thanks for all your help!!

    [qoute]-Ok, so i have a few questions:
Ok I have an answer to the 2nd and 3rd question but not the first becuase I have mine plugged in right now and for some reason it says the do not disconnect for no reason then when I unplug it, it goes into the weird "Windows- Delayed Write Failed" crud.
Answer to 2nd question is- Send your music file to itunes and open it from there and export it into your library, then drag it into your ipod.
Answer to 3rd question is- Set you music defualt settings as which one you like most (Ex. itunes, Rhapsody..)
You can do this by plugging in your Ipod and clicking on what action it should take when it opens, Take not Action, Open itunes, or open your other music programs. Choose the one you like best and your files you download should be located in that setting you chose.
    Hope this helped.

  • EAX has gone ballist

I downloaded all of the updates. When I am using just the desktop, EAX has full functionality. As soon as I go into a game or open up my TV card's program, EAX is inaccessible and adds some weird chorus/delay effect to every source. I can't turn it off, and I can't change EAX's settings. It just starts to have a mind of its own. Is there a setting I am missing? This is a pain the the butt when trying to play Second Life because I stream music li've into the game, but I can't be in the game while streaming to them. Someone please help!

I have the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum Pro. It doesn't only happen with the TV card, it happens with anything that utilizes my soundcard dependently. Ex: Games, TV tunes (Pinnacle PCTV PCI capture card). Winamp works fine with it, as does Cool Edit Pro, my recording software.

  • Weird delay reading shared variables

    Hello,
I'm working on a project were I'm monitoring some prodution lines. I'm using DSC module's OPC server to connect to PLCs on the production line and I've created bound variables on my labview project of the PLC's tags.
On my project I have one main VI were I show information about the production lines and were I can access several subVIs were I show other information about those lines. Then I have a VI that is running in background were I'm reading about 50 shared variables from the PLC and where I'm registering some data in a MySQL database, datalogging data on the Citadel database and registering alarms.
The problem I'm having is that on the VI that runs in background I noticed a delay reading the variables that are reading containers weights from the production line. It seems that all the other shared variables don't suffer any delay, only the weight variables start having some delay when the values are increasing. It also seems like that, when I'm only running that VI alone, without running the main VI, there isn't any kind of delay. I'm reading the shared variables as shared variable nodes.
Can anybody help me understand what's happening and how can I fix this delay? The VI that runs in background is time critical and a weird delay like that messes up my data.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Mateus23,
The shared variable has various buffering capabilites, including integration with the Real-Time FIFO feature in LabVIEW Real-Time.
I guess that the buffering settings are causing the unexpected behavior.
    Check these resources:

  • Weird issue with 10.0.1.0 on Linux - 5 mins delay in server start-up!!

    Hi ...
I am having some weird (and unique??) issue with WLS 10.0.1.0 on RHEL servers.
WLS installation on our DEV env works perfectly fine and the server starts up in 15-20 secs. for each of the two domains created on it.
But the QA server is another story all together ! ... It has the same OS and version, WSL installation and version, hardware configs, processes running at the time of start-up etc. But the problem is that when I try to start the server on the only domain on that server, it always gets delayed by 5-6 mins in between the startup at this point -

(Notice the 6 mins delay in the timestamps)
There are no logs getting generated within this time and it seems like the WLS 10.0.1.0 just spaces out
After the delay it starts up pretty fast .. within 10-15 secs!!
Anybody here seen such behavior with WLS
    thanks,

I recommend taking some thread dumps during this delay and contacting support to get some advice.
You can take the thread dumps by kill -3, JRockit Mission Control, etc.

This issue occurs whether or not I have "Documents & Data" selected for sync in iCloud preferences.
Interestingly enough, if I immediately open another file after this occurs, the issue does not happen again right away. However, if I wait about two minutes and open one, it does occur every time.
(Note: My acount name and email address have been replaced with "username" but the log is otherwise unaltered)

I have the exact same problem.  It's been driving me crazy ever since I "upgraded" to Lion.  I finally traced it to iCloud and the Mobile Documents folder using Console, which lead me here.
Any time I launch Pages, QuickTime, or TextEdit (TextEdit, really?), the first file I try to open gives me the spinning beachball of death for about 10 seconds before I can do anything.
I did numerous searches regarding the spinning beach ball of death in relation to those apps and found nothing germaine before I specifically searched for "collection does not match configured AppleID." This makes me think that a lot of other people are having this problem who just haven't discovered this thread.
I will try disabling "Documents & Data" but an actual fix would be greatly appreciated.  "It just works" has not applied to many aspects of iCloud.  I thought MobileMe had its issues, but iCloud is a mess in my personal experience, well beyond this issue.  I appreciate the potential and am clinging to some faith in Apple, but Lion and iCloud have been REALLY testing my patience.  Snow Leopard was a rock.  This all seems like beta software hastily ported from iOS.

  • Weird issue: application.onDisconnect delayed in Chrome

    Hi,
I have an application in which we use application.onDisconnect when a user logs out.
In all browsers, we can see in the FMS admin console that the user has indeed been disconnected, except when the user uses Chrome.
It can take minutes before the application.onDisconnect is fired.
    Known issue? Any work around?
    Thank you

    Hi,
Please take a look at this video, where we can clearly see the application.onDisconnect not immediately firing on Chrome like it does on FireFox, and it's the same application. It ALWAYS does that on Chrome.

  • Weird LOV behaviour - delay when go_block,go_item

    Hi,
I have a lov and after the user selects a value I go to another block and execute a query. Problem is that after I check the return value of show_lov and find it true, it takes some 3-4 secoonds for the code to execute if it had a go_item or go_block statement.
    To understand it better:
    a := SHOW_LOV('LOV_ALL_EMP');
         IF a = TRUE THEN
IF HERE I PUT A GO_ITEM OR GO_BLOCK STATEMENT (WHICH IS NEEDED TO EXECUTE QUERY THEN) I TAKE A 3 SECOND DELAY FOR SOME REASON (ONLY AT THE FIRST GO_BLOCK OR GO_ITEM IF I HAVE 2 OR MORE I GET THE DELAY ONLY AT THE FIRST. OTHER STATEMENTS DONT STUCK.
    ELSE
IF USER DOES NOT SELECT A VALUE DELAY DOES NOT OCCUR EVEN IF I USE GO_BLOCK
    END IF;
    To put it more generally:
When I execute a the first GO_ITEM or GO_BLOCK statement AFTER the call of a LOV it seems to stuck for a little.. Even if statement refers to the block already focused. Also for the delay to occur, user have to select a value from LOV i.e. if user does not select a value (and show_lov returns false) this delay does not happen. Why?
Any ideas on this strange behaviour please?
    regards,
    teo

    Well Steve,
seems it's something like that. What I did is to check if it is the same on other PCs in here and it is the same, but unfortunatelly I wouldnt have the opportunity to check it on an OS other than XP home. Laptop I use for testing over the Web has Win 2000 but I use PSTN there so speed is totally different and I can't tell if there's a difference.
Anyway I really don't have too much time to lose on that (it seems tricky) and moreover I don't think I'm using LOV in this case cause UI seems too poor for my requirements so I'll do a 'LOV' by myself.. So I will abandon this although its interesting. If later on I find anything else or be able to test it on another OS I'll get back on this post.
    I really appreciate your interest.
    For the history:
    Forms 9i on AS9i
Win XP Home on which lies the AS9i (same used as a client)
DB server 9i on other PC in the LAN

  • EXTREME delay then weird "fast-forward"

Okay --here's the problem upon initiating video chat, the computer (initiator) sees a very slowed down version of the incoming video which then is about 45 seconds behind (I'm not exaggerating here). Then suddenly a few minutes in, the video and sound "fast-forward" to catch up to realtime. Then everything is working normally . . . any ideas??
    Powerbook 17 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Still a little puzzling to me as I have done hundreds of chats from many lower speed connections to France and elsewhere. I've experienced terrible quality and insufficient bandwidth messages but never this.
These are both relatively high-speed connections (initiator on a partial T1 {850/850 Kbps} connecting to a business high speed cable connection {3Mbps/350Kbps}. Both computers are 1.2 Ghz eMacs running the latest version of 10.4 (my personal computer is a powerbook).
Furthermore, we have been using this exact connection and equipment on a weekly basis for over a year (since Dec. 04) and never had this happen once until this past week. Also, the machine on the cable connection has been used to video chat with other machines and never experienced this problem.
I just wonder if there isn't some other issue involved. Still open to suggestions.

  • [SOLVED] IBM Thinkpad 600E 3.6.11-1 rt73usb weird wireless issue.

    Hi guys and gals.
I have been researching this for 3 days now. I have also asked at the #Archlinux channel but they don't seem to know the answer and I cannot seem to find anything relevant... so here goes nothing.
I have this Belkin rt73usb card - it's connected to this SUPER OLD Thinkpad 600E machine and it's associated always with only 1 router - static IP setup - basically laptop is stationary / not moved. I had little problems with connecting it to the network at boot time but thanks to Boohbah from #Archlinux channel and a bit of research I got it to connect http://sparewotw.wordpress.com/2013/01/ … boot-time/ and to turn off power management and to keep the rate as "fixed" - works well BUT... I have a problem with it - the connection stays up - I can browse the internet from the thinkpad / I can access the sshfs share on my server (from thinkpad) and so on but after a while sshd port - 50505 in my case - goes from open into filtered and I cannot connect to it anymore. Example - rebooted thinkpad - i can connect - thinkpad was left alone for lets say sometimes 10 minutes - sometimes an hour - connection is active but I cannot ssh to the machine anymore.
I have been running shorewall as a firewall and I said maybe it's a shorewall bug but then I ran as root shorewall clear and it didn't solved it, disabling shorewall or restarting didn't help, restarting sshd service didn't help only restarting the wlan0 service / connection re-opens the port... Any ideas?
All I get is "No route to host" and when I nmap the port it's not open anymore... it says filtered without firewall enabled / active...
The connecting method has nothing to do with failures as netcfg (which started connecting at boot time after adding pci=noacpi to the boot time kernel parameters) is doing the exact same thing...
Also when powermanagement was on and the rate was not fixed the problem was still occuring...
Connection info is available at the link mentioned above.

    [ 11.538531] Adding

    Hi Dude.
I will try what You have suggested.
    Which channel do You "recommend"?
My router is set to G-only as the card is G-only, I have been using channel 1 but I will change it to 11 and see what happens.
I was using WPA2-Personal with AES but I will change it to WPA2-Mixed (AES + TKIP) and see if that changes anything.
I was hoping that the upgrade of the linux-firmware (linux-firmware-20130610-1) that I have found in the repo today fixes the issue.
    Installed it and typed in:
    [root@wishthinkpad andrzejl]# iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M fixed
    [root@wishthinkpad andrzejl]# ping go
and I have lost connection before I could even type in "ping google.com"...
Edit: Changing router's settings got me nowhere so far Dude:

  • Instead of "Mailbox busy", Mail asks for password, long delay

We're testing Mail as a replacement for Eudora at my place of work. There is a POP account (not .mac) that is checked by five people. Using Eudora 6.x, if one person was checking the account, anybody else trying to check would get a Mailbox Busy message. Using Mail, you'd get an alert symbol next to the mailbox in the mailbox list, but next time mail was checked and the mailbox wasn't busy, it would work fine.
We just switched to a new mail server yesterday (on a Vereo host?) and now, though Eudora is behaving as before if the account is busy, Mail will pop up a box saying the password wasn't recognized, asking for the correct password, and then there's a loooong delay while it times out.
I presume the new server is sending some kind of busy message that Mail interprets incorrectly, but it's a show-stopper for us. Currently our options are:
    1. Stop using a shared mailbox (my personal preference, but the actual users might not go for it)
    2. Find out from the provider why the new server is causing this behavior (fat chance--they're likely to blame it on our weird Apple software)
    3. Find out how to make Mail interpret the busy signal correctly.
    4. Forward the account's mail to all the users' own addresses, instead of having them check that account themselves (am doing this now, will see how it works out. It will require more storage space on the server, at a minimum.)
I'm trying to find out if the server supports IMAP but in any case that would not be a workable solution for us.
Any feedback or enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.

"More Like this" entry " Phantom Mail Account won't let go! Steven Shmerler SASNET Design, New York  Oct 10, 2011 7:56 PM" gave me a clue, which after 15 minutes without annoying message, seems to work.
Went to Mail Preferences/ Accounts/ Account Information/ Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)/ Edit SMTP Server List...
There were four (count them, 4) references to Earthlink. I deleted them, restarted Mail, and so far so good.
    Thanks
