Weird times in iCal

I'm using iCal 4.0.3 and when I create a new event, I can enter the hour of the start time, but the minute always defaults to some odd time like :03 or :08. I'm not able to put :30 or :00 as the start/end time. Is there a fix for this?

Alec,
1. Check for duplicate fonts, and resolve them using Font Book.
2. Refresh the the com.apple.iCal.plist file. You will find the com.apple.iCal.plist file in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. Quit iCal, drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to your Desktop.
3. Log out/in or restart. Before opening iCal, go to system Preferences...>Lanugrage & Text>Formats>Region:> set/re-set the appropriate region.
Your system profile shows OS X 10.4.11, but since you are using iCal 4.0.3 you must have updated your system.

  • How do I sync travel time from iCal to calendar on an iOS device?

Hi, I really like the feature travel time in iCal. Unfortunale it only works great on the Mac. Therefor I only get the correct time when to leave when I am at home.
    I have an example:
I made an apointment that is 2 hours and 3 minutes travel time away on my iMac. This is actually transferred to my iPhone correctly.
I also added an apointment with a lication in the same city. On the iMac it shows me that I will need 8 minutes from the first meeting to the second apointment and that it will remind me in time to leave. Everything seems fine. But when I look in calendar on my iPhone it will remind me 1 hour and 8 minutes before the meeting starts. That does not make any sense.
I thought that maybe iOS calendar adds the usual time set to remind me and adds the driving time. This is not the case since the usuall time is set to two hours. On the iMac the usuall time to remember me is set to one hour. It is probbably coming from here that it adds the hour but it does not make sense.
Does anynbody know how to use the travel time funktion properly for all devices?
I am also lokking for a way to set the reminder to travel time plus X minutes. It would make sence to get reminded when to get ready and not when you sit at your desk and are actually supposed to get out of the house...

    Ok, I found the answer.
iCal will push the travel time plus the standard reminder time to the iOS device. So I set the standard remeinder to 10 minutes and I know whenever I am reminded that I have 10 minutes to get going. We can only hope that Apple will work some kinks out of this feature and we will be able to set a standard reminder for all appointments with travel time like "Leave in 30 minutes" to finish up what your doing or wrap up a meeting and then "leave in 5 minutes" to really get going. If you have the same issue write to apple.com/feedback. Maybe they will work on it if the get more feedbacks...

  • Since Time Change, iCal and iPhone Calendar Time Are All Messed Up

Ever since the most recent daylight-savings time change, I noticed all events I created in iCal, when synced with my iPhone, became an hour off. If I edit the event on the iPhone, it stays the correct time on my iPhone, but when it syncs with iCal again, the time on iCal goes off by another hour, even though the time for the event on the iPhone stays correct. (Hopefully that makes sense) Has anyone else experienced this problem? It is incredibly annoying, because now I have no trust in any of my calendar entries as to what the correct time is.
As an example: I created an event for Sunday the 16th on iCal on my Mac for a 1-hour soccer game from 8:00PM - 9:00PM. When I synced my iPhone, I noticed a few days later that the event on my iPhone now said the event was from 9:00PM - 10:00PM...one hour off! I edited the event on my iPhone, and re-synced. Now my iPhone has the correct time (which I manually edited on the phone) but iCal now says the event goes from 7:00PM - 8:00PM. Again, an hour off, but in the reverse direction (an hour off early, rather than late). When I sync now, even though the times on the iPhone and the times on iCal don't match, they do not change...it's as if either the computer or the phone didn't recognize daylight savings time or something, and thinks it has the correct time for the event. Both my Mac and my iPhone's clocks do display the correct time and date, however, so it's not like the system clock is off. It is completely bizarre, and I entered my entire teams schedule this way, so ALL games were off, and now is completely screwed up. Please help.

Yes, I did. I posted an identical post in the iPhone forum since no one answered here. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1791145&tstart=0
The first reply solved the problem. It involved the Time Zone setting in iCal Advanced preferences for me.

  • How do you date and time stamp iCal entries?  We share an event calendar and need to know when a new event was entered into iCal.

    BKBK,
Thank you for your response. That does adequately cover the
client-originated sessions, but still leaves the ability I am
    looking for unavailable.
It did serve to definitively answer my most pressing
    question, however, with this statement:
Note: ColdFusion cannot create a session if an initiator
application uses a SendGatewayMessage method to start an
interaction with a client, such as an SMS user. In this case, the
sending code must keep track (for example, in a database) of the
messages it sends and their destinations. When a response event
arrives, it can look up the origniatorID to determine whether it
was in response to an outgoing message.
I will play around with the Application scope to see if there
might be a workable solution there.

  • I work nights. Can I switch Travel Time in iCal from work to home?

I work nights. Can I switch Travel Time in iCal from work to home? I really don't have any appointments from 11 pm to 7 am when I work, but I don't want to switch when my day starts in preferences as no one else in my family works nights.
    Any suggestions?

i haven't seen that option either, and it would be a great feature. (traveltime in a different colour...)
i do it like this: in the caption of the appointment i put the time that the gig starts. the actual time stretch of the appointment is the appointment including traveltime.
it's not the best way, but it works...
    good luck

  • Why is it impossible to see an appointment "time" in ical/maverick OS on macbook air?

Why is it impossible to see an appointment "time" in ical/maverick?  How could this be a good thing when looking at appointments at a glance in day view and you come to a screeching stop because the TIME is invisible, while in month view time isn't there at all!!
    Thanks,

This is actually a run-on sentence, so it's a little difficult to tell what you mean.
Time is visible in the appointments at a glance in day view.  I think you acknowledge this and agree.
Time is also visible in week view.  (You didn't mention week view.)
Time is not visible in month view.  You could see the time for a specific event by clicking on it.
Similarly, time is not visible in year view.
It makes sense that as you lose fidelity, you lose detail.

    CHRIS A123,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    1. Quit iCal, and open System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>Region:>reset/choose the appropriate region...also check what you have set in Dates/Times
    2. If that is unsuccessful, I also recommend using the Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update (Combo).

  • Time in iCal are US (EST) but sync to MobileMe and iPhone as UK (GMT)

Time in iCal are US (EST) but sync to MobileMe and iPhone as UK (GMT). How can I correct this? I thought I had changed all my settings after I got back from the UK.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks.

Sorry, I re-read this and realized that my explanation of the problem may not have been clear. (I need to get more sleep)
When I add a new event into iCal on my Mac it shows up at 1:45pm EST. When the event syncs via MobileMe it shows up as 6:45pm (18:45) on my iPhone and in MobileMe online. How can I get the events to shows up at the correct time (1:45pm) on my iPhone and online?
    Thanks

  • Weird View in iCal

In iCal, I have it set up in my preferences to display 7 days a week and to scroll in weeks. But It shows 6 days a week and changes views every time I select a different day of the same week. It's not affecting any of my data, but it's strange and it's making it difficult for me to set up my alendar the way I;m used to it.
It all started when I first installed Snow Leopard. At first when I would change the preferences around, things would change to the way I like the temporarily, and then if I moved two weeks forward, iCal would freeze and shut down. But know it's consistently in the wrong view.
Any ideas on what might fix this?

I have an odd one too. Yesterday I allowed an automatic update to OS 10.5.8 (Leopard) and thereafter iCal is acting strange. I open iCal in month view and all looks normal. I click a month ahead and that all looks normal....Thanksgiving is the third Thursday in November, etc. I then click the left (previous) arrow and nothing appears to happen. Still November. If I click "previous again it goes to September but Thankgiving is still showing. The oddest part is that it looks like two or more months are showing at once. I can sort of see through some of the appointments from November to a little more bold appointments that I had in September. Very strange.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers,
    Mac

  • Weird message in iCal "Error Locating Account Information"

    Hi,
I've a problem syncing iCal with Google calendar.
It works in the beginning very well, but sometimes I receive the message:
    Error Locating Account Information
Request encountered an unexpected error (domain CalDAV No Calendar Home Error / code 1).
    And the calendar stops syncing.
What is this message ? Why works well and then, suddenly, stops ?(without change any setting)
    Mac OS X - 10.6.7
    iCal 4.0.4
    Thanks

    Greetings,
That is an error message coming back from the Google CalDAV server when iCal requests an update of your calendars.
1.) First make a backup of your calendars by clicking on each one, one at a time and going to File > Export > Export and then saving the files somewhere for safekeeping.
2.) Delete the Google account from iCal > Preferences > Accounts
3.) Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical and / or "ical"
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
4.) Launch iCal and then go to iCal > Preferences > Accounts and re-add your Google account being very careful to type in the user name and password correctly.
    See if that helps.

  • Never ever ever ever change my appointment times in iCal!

I have read dozens of posts.  I have played with the settings and my behaviour until I am sick.
In >30 years of using both paper and electronic diaries, I HAVE NEVER ONCE SET A TIME FOR ANY OTHER TIME ZONE APART FROM THE RELEVANT ONE FOR MY MEETING!!
I just was late for another meeting having flown in from the UK to Prague.
I am running MacOS 10.6.8 on a MacBook Pro
Following recomendations from Apple itself, I turned off the hopelessly muddled and confusing 'Time Zone Support' (which never worked in practice as things that synch or when you add appts in a hurry you never see the dialog to set time zone for the specific event)
1/ The 'automatic time change' did NOT change my time zone.  (and yes, I WAS on the internet)  I had to do this manually
2/ In doing this manual change ONCE AGAIN ALL MY MEETINGS WERE CHANGED BY 1 HOUR!!
Imagine my embarassment when my client shows up 1 hour 'early' literally catching me with my pants down (I was in the toilet) and unprepared. Joked with him that he was quite keen - he takes offense that he was spot on time.
Put in a new option in Preferences: NEVER CHANGE TIME (or word it as "PRESERVE TIMES AS ENTERED")
    Turn it on by default
Just fix this. Obviously the programmers behind this 'feature' (a pain in the backside for many years) never had the real world experience of travelling between time zones.
Just fix this.  I cannot believe that the hundreds of complaints I have read about this asinine feature are groundless.
Just fix this. You have exacerbated the problem a hundred-fold by encouraging us all to use our iCal as the root to which we synch our iPads, iPhones, and 3rd party calendar systems.
    Just fix this.

  • Why do I have an 8-hour default time in ical 5.0.2?

I have upgraded to Lion and currently have iCal v 5.0.2. When I start a new event it shows as "All day." When I unclick this the default appointment length is 8 hours. How can I change the default settings to a 1- (or 2-) hour default time rather than all day or 8 hours?

  • The time in iCal is different from the time in iPhone Calendar

Why my appointments in iCal appear 1 hour later in iPhone's calendar?
For example, if I have an appointment to 11 AM in iCal, it appears as 12 in iPhone's calendar.
    Can anyone help me?

You might want to go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into your iCloud account, click on your name, then confirm that you have the correct time zone set for iCloud, and that on your phone in Settings>General>Date & Time that you have Set Automatically turned On.
