Weird transition between a video and still clip

I am working in iMovie 11 (10.0.5) and I have one video clip with a still clip to the right of it. I added a cross dissolve transition (as I have done for all the clips in my movie). All the other transitions are 1.0sec but for some reason this transition keeps going in as .1 sec. It will not allow me to change the duration of the transition. The clip to the right is 3 sec and the video clip to the left is 28.5 sec. The transition on the left is the correct 1.0 sec. I don't understand why this transition is so short and won't let me adjust. Any ideas? Help please!

Well, I did a test of this using a fresh Project and a still (at the beginning of the Timeline) and a video from other Projects. At first I got the same affect as you did — the transition (a Cross Dissolve) sat on the right side only of the Edit Point (the movie had adequate handles to allow the transition because I had set an In Point). I thought that the still was not providing a handle so I put the still in the Viewer, moved the Playhead (in the Viewer) away from the right hand end of it and set a new Out Point. That did not work.
I then opened a fresh Project and started again, again setting a new In Point for the video. This time the transition worked, being on both sides of the Edit Point!
With the Still again showing in the Viewer I noticed that when the Playhead in the Timeline was at the end of the still, (that is, at the Edit Point) the Playhead in the Viewer was just to the left of the Viewer's Out Point, so showing that a handle had been automatically created by FCE when the transition was inserted. (This is what I would expect because FCE should be able to do that automatically, a Still having of all its frames the same.) When I deleted the transition, the Outpoint in the Viewer moved to the left (in the direction towards the beginning of the Still) to coincide with the Playhead there. This proves that FCE created the necessary handle to allow a symmetrical transition.
But that does not explain why I had the same problem as you did when I started. Does anyone have any ideas, or were these two coincidental glitches on two computers thousands of miles apart?? (I know that the latest research in Quantum Physics states that two entangled protons separated by a huge distance can communicate with eachother, but computers? Scary!)

You can't use iMovie to create a video DVD - for that you need iDVD:

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

How would you like the feature to work?
Whether inside a multicam created sequence, or a multicam sequence that has been pasted into another layer on a separate sequence, I want the video and audio to remain linked together when a cut is made. Currently, when I make a cut, the audio and video become unlinked and I have to first a. make all the razor cuts, then b. go and relink the video and audio clips back together. Takes an extra 30 minutes every time now.
Why is this feature important to you?
To save time and stop the long redundant process of click selecting the video and audio and linking them, over and over and over, in a multicam sequence. Obviously if I can do it manually, it can also be done in-program.

When you create the multicam sequence manually (still the best way, I think), video and audio remain linked.

Very true ! My main point was to show how easy it was to sync. I still think apple has a way to go to make this a great tool. It was fast to edit but when I want to send somthing to AE 5.5 it was a nightmare. I do I love how it organizes keywords and the color correction tools are good if you want to do it your self (check out this site http://www.colorgradingcentral.com/final-cut-pro-x-color-grading-table-of-conten ts ) it will be a great program if apple listens to all the comments but does not make it too complicated the you cant create quickly.

Dragging video and still files into a atom strand template

How do I drag video and still files into an atom strand theme template in Motion 4? I am trying to do it but the opened file keeps snapping back to the file list.

The templates can be challenging to modify.
In that template, it's not the camera that's being animated, it's the group containing the camera. If you select that group, and set the Keyframe Editor to view animated keyframes, you'll see them.
To modify them, it may be easier to show them in the Timeline so that the keyframes at each frame are bundled into one object and therefore easier to move. But if you are new to Motion, you are diving into the deep end of the pool here.

Having read how one might be able to send a video that is too large, it seems that those videos and still pictures that are sent, well at least for me anyway, end up 90 degrees to the horizontal...how do i send a pic, or video that is the right way up???.

You can copy them to the TC.. do not expect Time Machine to keep something that you delete though..
And please recognise you are breaking the idea of Time Capsule.. it is primarily a backup target for TIme Machine.. once you move files to the TC and delete them on the computer.. the only copy of the file is now on the TC.. which has no automated backup.. no easy means of recovery if the drive fails. no parts even.. Apple do not fix.. they give you a replacement and chuck your old one.
You are hoping that the TC will preserve your files.. when it is well known to be a less than reliable device.
Think hard if this is really where you want to go.

Matching color between a video and a photo in PS CC

Hi,
I am trying to match the color between a Video and a photo in Photoshop CC.
This works ok with the color matching tool. Image > Adjustments > match color.
However, it only matches the color of the 1st frame and no the whole video.
Is there a way to use the color matching tool to apply the adjustments to the whole video?

I don’t think I explained myself very well.
I want the video to match the Photo. Not to apply adjustments to the video and photos at the same time.
The Photos (raw) and video were taken at the same time with the same camera.
I have worked on the photos in adobe camera raw and saved them as tiffs.
Now I have opened up the video and tiffs in Photoshop and would like to match the new colors from the tiffs to the Video file.
When I use the match color tool, the Video and Tiff are the same color.
However Photoshop only matches the 1st frame of the video, the rest of the video is left in the original color.
My question is, how can I get the Match color tool to apply the color setting to the whole video?
So that the whole video is the same color as the Tiffs, not just the 1st frame.

Lost 200+ pictures and many videos and sound clips

So, I wanted to update the iOS to iOS5, but something went wrong. It backed up (so I wasn't too worried), but it didn't restore properly. Error "-1". A pretty much unknown error. I tried again 2 day's later, and it worked like a charm.
BUT, in the 2 days, I went to a championship DTM race, about 600km (370 miles) away, shot over 200 pictures and many many videos and sound clips. We even stopped at the Nürenburgring Nordschleife before the DTM on the way and took the car to the track a few times. Awesome.
After the restore, I had all my previous stuff back, but lost all of the Nürenburgring Nordschleife and DTM pictures... Is there any way to get those back? iTunes restored my iPhone without asking me! So I lost everything as soon as I started up iTunes...

Cross dissolve transition between multiple video tracks?

I'm wanting to cross dissolve between 2 clips, with each clip consisting of 2 or 3 video tracks (one clip is a still image in track v2, sitting above a color matte in v1; the other clip is motion footage in v1, with another cropped motion image in v2 and v3). When I put cross dissolves between the 2 clips (ie 2 dissolves, one for video track v1 and one for v2), the dissolve is "messy", showing the cropped images in v2 and v3.
To make the dissolves "clean" I can render and export the multiple-track clips, but then I have to add handles to allow the dissolve, and then it takes time to resync each clip, which is very annoying!
Is there a technique for making cross dissolves between multiple-track video clips?

Practice and logical deconstruction.
If your original clip is 10 seconds and your nest is 10 seconds you must trim off 2 seconds of the nest to perform a 2-4 second dissolve. If that pulls too much of your original clip out of the timeline, you must add two seconds to the original clip so the nest is 12 seconds long so you can trim off the 2 seconds requried to perform the dissolve.
An easier way of accomplishing this is to stack the two nests and apply a keyframed opacity ramp to the upper track. This will help you visualize what you're doing wrong and how to add more handles to the upstream clips.

PRE8 - Transitioning between multiple video tracks

Hi,
I've been making Youtube vids for awhile with a web cam, and using a Microsoft app to sync my audio up with the webcam.
I now have a second camera, and have purchased PRE8 for some of the effects, and to try to sync the video closer to the audio (as well as adding multiple camera shots).
I've recorded all my video angles (5 in all) and have been trying to switch between video tracks.
I first set my audio track into PRE8, then the first video. I work to sync the two, then mute the audio track from the webcam video clip.
When I add a second video clip in, can I add it as a new video track, and then transition between them?
The book I have only uses separate video clips, all stacked onto one video track.
The problem with me doing that is, I need to pull all 5 video clips in, sync them to the audio track, and then change in between them.
Having to clip them duration wise for every transition is going to take awhile, and seems like it would be hard to get right.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, the Multi-cam feature would simplify life a bit, but there is a big difference in the cost of the two programs.
What I would do is look at a workflow, something like this:
Import your main footage, probably a Clip with a medium wide shot, and drag it to the Timeline. Now, does this Clip contain the full song, or was that recorded separately? Either way, check for the sync for the entire Clip. When you play this Clip, use the * key on the numberpad (with NumLock ON), to place Markers where you think you will want the "cut-away" shots. Don't worry if they are not exactly where you will end up placing the cut-aways, as they are just there to remind you. Now, with the cut-aways, Import one of those into Project. From the Project Panel, Dbl-click on it to open it in the Source Monitor. Set the In and Out Points to suit, and then from the Source Monitor, drag that Instance of the Clip onto an upper Video Track. Let any Audio go where ever PrPro wants it, because you will Alt-click on that Audio, and Delete it. Now, slide it along the Timeline, until it syncs up with the "master" Audio Track. You have the benefit of knowing which strings you are plucking, or which chords you are using, so it will be much easier for you. Were I doing that, I would not have a clue, and would have to use that Clip's Audio to try and match up the visuals.
Remember, that source Clip can have its In & Out Points set as many times as you wish, and you can add any number of Instances to the Timeline, where you wish, and repeat the process of visually syncing to the master Audio.
Repeat for the other desired angles.
When you are done, just add a Cross-Dissolve to each end of each of the additional Clips, as desired.
From an aesthetic standpoint, you might also want to think about doing some of those "different angles" as PiP (Picture in Picture). I have seen that treatment used very successfully with musical pieces, especially if they are instructional in nature.
Let me know if the above workflow seems logical for what you have, and what you want to do.
