Weird, Weird . . . and frustration.

Ok, ok. I've got FIVE Macs scattered in various locations. I have used iChat a lot over the last year and since the OS upgrade, I'm having mega-problems. Two machines work great; an MBP and a MB. Three no longer work on iChat at all; they are all Mac Minis (2 Intel, one G4 . . . all have OUTBOARD cameras!). I get my buddy list on the Minis, I click the little green camera icon next to my buddy, and then the problems begin. It looks like it is going to work, and then I get a blue box stating there has been a communication error or the other party has declined, or whatever.
What is the connection between using outboard cameras and this failure? When I used Firewire cameras I had less problems than when I switched to USB cameras. Also, I have raised and lowered the bandwidth maximums, changed this and that, all to no avail. I've also tried switching ports to 443 from 5190 and back again. No difference. The text chat works great, but the video just won't happen.
Any help would be appreciated.

If it worked in 10.5.1 then download and install the Combo 10.5.2 update
There is no connection between On-boar cameras and not.
There is a connection between Leopard and Tiger depending on how you opened the ports in your routing device.
We could do with knowing what "this and that" were.

  • Memory timings, weird bios behaviour, frustration...

    Hi.
    I recently bought a MSI 875P mobo, a P4c 2.4GHz to go with it and also 2x512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 memory.
    First thing I did was flash the bios to the newest version (1.8), which, after reading things from another thread might not have been such a great idea after all.
    Seems that the CAS latency setting in the bios does not do anything. No matter if its set to 2, 2.5 or 3, CPU-Z always shows 2. Also, im getting quite frustratign results when overclocking with this mobo, no matter how much voltage I give to the memory (I have tried as much as 3,2v) whenever the memory bus is over 200MHz the system wont be stable. It seems as if the memory voltage setting doesnt do anything, as it doesnt matter if its set to 2.5 or 3.2 it wont be any more or less stable. (I know over 200MHz is over spec for this memory but the mem is supposed to do alot better than that, especially when increasing the voltage.) Also even with low memory speeds im unable to get the CPU to go very high... it does 3GHz (250MHz FSB) fine with default core voltage, but anything above that wont be stable no matter what CPU core voltage I use. Could be my CPU, but I suspect the motherboard to be the reason with so many faults already.
    Theres also some weird behaviour by the bios I have seen. For example, sometimes the AGP/PCI divider has three settings (66,75,83MHz) and sometimes it allows me to set the frequencies by 1MHz steps, but still so that there is no 66MHz setting at all, just 67 - 83MHz and one extra setting which gets adjusted as I adjust the FSB. Also, sometimes when I try to go into the BIOS setup, I only get a black screen. This often happens if I press some other key (for example tab) before pressing del during POST. weird and extremely annoying.
    Is there any hope that issues such as these would be resolved in a future bios update? I'm a little frustrated after setting up this system with watercooling etc. and now being stuck with this motherboard doing weird things and certainly not being a good mobo for overclocking!
    In case these issues wont be solved in the near future, I will propably switch to another brand motherboard... Anyone reading these boards with good experience from other manufacturers, preferably similar boards as the 875P in terms of features (wanted ones)?

    Before you do upgrade to Snow Leopard, make sure your Mac meets the requirements.
    Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard - Technical Specifications
    Make sure the disc you tried using doesn't have any fingerprints or smudges on it. The optical drive can't read the disk otherwise.
    If your Mac won't read the disc, might be a good idea to rule out any problems with the startup disk BEFORE trying to upgrade the system.

    and now, when i tried to check again my network preference below the airport tab is showing a message that
    "my airport does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the internet!"
    then after seconds it will goes back to the first message that
    "airport has the self assigned IP address etc....."
    i don't know whats going on now!
    airport tab is not showing green color anyway! i'ts always in yellow!

  • Weird quit and restart!

    Hi,
    I've just started using MainStage, and plan on using it LIVE. I was building a concert today, with about 16 patches, when something very strange happened. After editing a patch, I hit full screen, and my computer restarted!
    Has this ever happened before to anyone of you guys?

    I've had that happen maybe once, in the over than 100 times I used it.
    Use the console application and look for the time and date that weird quit and restart occurred. The console application is in the Applications -> Utilities -> console, look thru the system log first, then console log after ( use file open ).
    If you see some error that did get reported to the console, which I bet you did, it will give some clue. Find and report back here a couple lines before and after that time period when MS quit.

    I had that happen with a MacBook. It turned out that the metal case above the slot was slightly bent down.
    Putting a flat blade screwdriver in the slot and gently twisting it to move the metal case up allowed it to eject. Don't put it in too far you only want to bend the case not the drive.
    The case can get bent down by picking it up with your thumb pressing down on the case above the slot.

  • HT4759 I want to use icloud mail on both iPhone 4s AND my pc. icloud mail on PC is mega glitchy and frustrating because my PC is ancient, I run XP, & these DO NOT MEET req's for iCloud.  Is there a email platform that will run well on both XP and iPhone?

    I NEED to use icloud mail on both iPhone 4s AND my PC. I need to use both. 
    Trying to use icloud mail on PC is mega glitchy (STOP SCRIPT WARNINGS EVERY FEW MINUTES) and frustrating because:
      1.  my PC is ancient (but nicely refurbished/fast)
      2.  I run XP  (with both Firefox and Chrome- newest versions)
      3.  thusly, I DO NOT MEET SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS for iCloud.
    In my passed attempts I found that
    1. Yahoo doesn't work well on iPhone
    2. Gmail doesnt work well on iPhone.
    I must be missing something... an app or... maybe a donated/ NEW FREE MAC!  (That would be sweet!  Ha.)
    Is there an email platform that will run well on both XP and iPhone?
    or... Please say it isn't true: I would love a Mac tablet or desktop. We have no money for a mac. SOL?   Is this iCloud apple tech only for wealthy middle class and above who can afford to have the newest and best of everything? 

    @Naiks, having suffered through unsuccessful synching attempts for Calendar and Contacts myself, l would suggest you try the following:
    UNINSTALL iCloud control panel from your PC. Seems silly, but do it.
    Go into Outlook, and look at the very top menu. Click FILE, then ACCOUNT SETTINGS, then click the popup box.
    You will see a list of all your email accounts. Make sure that ONE of them has a checkmark against it. If not, select the account your want as your default, and click "set as default.
    Exit out of Outlook and reboot your machine.
    Now reinstall iCloud, check CALENDAR and CONTACTS, and do as instructed when prompted.
    Reboot for good luck and now launch OUTLOOK. All that remains is to locate your iCloud Contacts and Calendar files, and make them your default.
    IMPORTANT: Don't panic if you can't find your contacts -- they're there. Click CONTACTS and you'll see you have several available contact files. Locate the one label "iCloud" in grey type. Right-click on it, select PROPERTIES, then click the Outlook Address Book tab. Check the box that says something like "Make this my default Outlook Address Book." Keep clicking "apply" and "okay" until you've exited out of the dialog box maze.
    You may have to do something similar with your Calendar files. I dd not, but if you need to, do it.
    Everything should now sync pretty seamlessly.
    I didn't have the exact same problem as you, but my dilemma was close enough. Good luck!

    1.I have been saving for weeks trying to buy this flat screen TV: the price has been $299.99

    Then finally this Tuesday I went there to buy, I checked the online price, it jumped to $329.99. I do have a mover coupon which is good for 10% off a single item. So I used, but I will have been really happy if I could have used it when the price is $299.99 instead. This mover coupon said any single item with some exclusions and I believe this Westinghouse 48" is not in the exclusion list.
    After I bought Tuesday, I checked the price online today, man, it went back to $299.99. Your price mathcing policy said if the price lowered within the return period, we could get the difference back. Then I went back to the Best Buy at Fairlawn, Ohio (Montrose) location where I bought my TV. But they refuse to return the difference saying I used that coupon.
    But key issue here is not using the coupon. That coupon DOES NOT SAY anything about not using on a sale item at all!!!!!
    If I return the TV today and they give me back that coupon, I would have been able to buy this one again at $299.99 AND using that coupon again!  So It is very UNFAIR they are doing that.
    Very disappointed and frustrated. Please help me to get this issue straightened out!! I follow all the rules, but that store clerk did not seem to understand that coupon is good for on sale items too and that TV is not on the exclusion list so they should follow the price matching promise and issue me the credit!!!!!!

    I recently updated to ios 5.1 but nothing has been done to rectify the audio app problems ie lyrics no longer shown,
    I am extremely disappointed and angrywith those responsible for the iOS 5 update, in regard to the way it hasaffected the music app in my iPad.
    I also own an iPhone 4, am an avid Apple fan, and up until now have beenextremely pleased with the devices, and have sung their praises to friends andassociates.
    I am a professional musician, and purchased an iPad primarily to use with theperformance of my music.
    The changes made to the music app affected my performances over the weekendextremely adversely – limiting my repertoire and causing confusion and delays.
    I have spent many hours talking withApple helpline assistants (who, incidentally have been very good and have triedto help), and I have also spent a lot of time on this letter.
    I greatly regret updating to iOS 5.
    There are two major problems with the music app.
    1. Lyrics no longer displayed
    2. Layout, and appearance and consequently performance have seriouslyregressed.
    I have a repertoire of around 500 song backing tracks, organised into about 20playlists, half of which featured lyrics / chords that I have spent monthsrecently entering into iTunes so that they could be used on my iPad.
    These were working fine up until the update - now they are gone.
    Previously, the app featured large icons for playlist, artists, songs etc. atbottom of page: Now there are small, grey, indistinct barely legible buttons.
    Previously, when playlist icon was selected - all the playlists were listedclearly in order on the left hand side in black on white (as in iTunes).
    Now they are scattered across the whole page in large squares (displayingnothing if there is no album art).
    The identifying wording below eachsquare is now small, grey, indistinct & barely legible.
    Previously, when a playlist was selected - the songs were displayed in adescending list in black & white: now they appear as small, grey indistinct & barely legible.
    Previously, when a song was selected - it appeared filling the page, and withaudio controls clearly positioned at top of screen. One tap would bring uplyrics.
    Now audio controls appear at top once again small, grey, indistinct &barely legible.
    A small square representsalbum art which if tapped fills page. A further tap fails to bring up lyrics.

    Lyrics aren't supported in the Music app on iOS 5 on the iPad. These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple (there are too many forums/threads/messages for that to happen).     You should take the time to familiarize yourself with the documentation that is available.  You can "uncheck" a song in iTunes, and then do a manual update.

    I do understand your frustration and respect the time taken in this regard.
    Let us try few troubleshooting steps, which will resolve this issue.
    Please do update the Adobe Application Manager before performing the below steps.
    1) Please click on License this software in Serial number screen and try activating the subscription.
    If you still prompt you to enter the serial number.
           2) Re-check have you used the email address to sign-in which is used to purchase the subscription, however please click on " I have a different email address" and sign-in again.
            Hopefully it will resolve the issue, if your still stuck in the same issue please reply back, will try my best to resolve this issue

  • I Feel Completely Helpless And Frustrated

    Hello everyone,
    I feel completely helpless and frustrated. A couple nights ago I worked in logic pro 9 with no problem, except some crashes, which I learned to live with. I turned off my computer and went to bed. The next day I turned on logic and the note heads were missing. The staves, Stems and ledger lines are visible but no note heads. I did not do anything out of the ordinary, nor did I download anything from the internet so I can't imagine that I got hit with a virus. I tried some troubleshooting like turning off fonts but that did not help. I posted myb problem on the Logic discussion page but I got no feedback. I have arranging and scoring deadline to meet and I am completely lost. Would an Apple Tech Support PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME. I consider the equipment I'm using (Mac Pro and Logic Pro 9) as top of the line and to be sitting here with my work tools being useless is extremely painful. Can apple PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me why this is happening, and help me with a solution??

    The problems you habe are probably a side effect of the crashes you had, and the song file could be corrupted. Maybe there's a problem with your hardware (memory, hard drive etc...) - knock wood, but Logic practially never (as in only once every few months) crashes here.
    My suggestion is that you look up the pdf-manual or help sysem and find out how you can import your data into a new song. If you do that, and find why Logic is crashing for you, your problems could be gon onc yoiu have imported the needed project data into a new, empty song.
    Alternatively – upload your problemtic project file so one of us can look at it for you.

  • Unexplained activation delay and frustration thank...

    I'm moving house on 6th August so made arrangements to change my line to my new address and in addition add a broadband connection. This was ordered nearly 2 weeks ago and was told that activation would take place on 5th August. Everything seemed to be fine until today when I received a voicemail message from BT telling me that there was going to be a delay in the activation and that I would be contacted again on 19th August.
    I rang BT and asked them to shed some light on why there was a delay. I was first told that there wasn't a delay; that everything was on track for the order to be completed and connection established on 5th August. So I then asked why I had received the message in first place, and was just told 'I don't know, it must have been a mistake.' When I then asked the member of staff if she could therefore guarentee that it would fine for the 5th Aug, she wouldn't commit and so I asked her to check with the suppliers department who left the message. 10 minutes later the member of staff returned and told me that there was already a broadband provider supplying the address and that I would have to get the code to allow BT to connect me. I know for certain that there is no supply to that address - I checked before I even rang BT to order the service - and said as much to the woman on the call. She then rang the suppliers department again (for another 5 minutes) and then returned and said 'It might be the 5th'. I asked her again for a conclusive answer and she could not provide me with one, and could not provide me with a reason for why it might not be the 5th.  I like to keep a record of customer service calls I make so I asked for the operatives name, and she was very reluctant to give it to me, something else I found frustrating. So I'm absolutely nowhere with getting an answer out of BT and frustrated with the very unhelpful nature of a 45 minute (in total) phone call.
    I need an answer on this ASAP - being internet-less until the 19th would be a major hassle and I would have to seriously consider cancelling my order and going with another company, especially considering the customer service I received today. I just hope that the dire level of care received today isn't indicative of the general level provided by BT - I would hope that I was just unlucky, but reading some of the posts on the forum doesn't really instill confidence...
    Would appreciate any suggestions of where to go next to get a resolution to this issue. Cheers!

    Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
    To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.

    I have no idea what I did. Things were going fine and now I cannot get the email to work on my blackberry torch. I even went to the AT& T store for them to help.  An email was sent that instructed me on how to change my password.  It said that my user name was my email address but when I put that in as a user name, I keep getting a message saying that is incorrect as it is an internet name.  I really wish there were a LIVE person that could help me.

    I am a real live person (well my wife does have doubts.)  Let's see what we can do.
    Is this an AT&T email address? Can you login via PC to the AT&T website where you get your email and is it valid? ? Did you delete the aborted setup on the Blackberry device? Unlike hand grenades and nuclear weapons you get another chance at this.
