Weirdness; No bash, no sudo, no locks to click, but lotsa smbd

I'm having a problem which is rendering my machine pretty unusable. After I first login in, everything is hunky dory. But after a few minutes programs just start getting unresponsive left right and centre. Symptoms also include that my terminal shell goes wonky. Starting a terminal window just shows the last login message and the blinking cursor, but no prompt. Typing commands in doesn't do anything.
If I run bash I get a prompt, but I can't use sudo.
If I need to authenticate anything, the lock from the "click on the lock to make changes" doesn't appear. I'm guessing this is related to my sudo problem.
Alo when I check the processes with top I find that there are something like 50 instances of the smbd daemon running. I added deadtime = 5 to the /etc/smbd.conf file, and it has culled the numbers somewhat. But I think this is a symptom, not the cause - those daemons aren't consuming any cpu or memory resources to speak of.
I think it might have something to do with recently installing Adobe CS4. It seemed to have started at the same time. Mind you I did have to throw away a lot of stuff to make room for it. Could I have inadvertantly thrown away some essential bit of system kit?

Have you done any Disk/OS maintenace lately?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
Reboot, test again.

I called Apple (no store near me) and the tech said because it does click, it can't be a harware issue. Thus, if I wanted him to tell me how to fix it I would have to pay up for tech support. Thought I'd try on the forums first.
I have updated to latest ios, restored, etc. Obviously I can work around with assistive touch, but would really like a six month old device to actually just work. (my common wish with apple products, as you can see from my screen name!)

The advisor is correct. Don't call a for-pay service to try to get free service.
if phone is under hardware wannanty it is an exception and customer does not have to pay anything.
if customer did restore and everything there is not much more troubleshooting that advisor can do.

Can't run bash or sudo commands

I have a Mac Pro with OS X 10.8.2 and also an older iMac running OS X 10.6.8. On neither Mac can I run any bash or sudo commands! I always get command not found.
Both Macs have fresh installs of OS X, did I forget to install something? Is X11 needed? or Xcode?

When I try connecting it to my computer itunes opens and says I cannot connect to the ipod because it is disabled, enter passcode on ipod. The ipod is locked and disabled and will not allow me to try and put in a passcode, which I wouldn't be able to do because I have no idea what it might have been.
I downloaded the newest version of Itunes, restarted computer, connected ipod, nothing, held every button down for what seems like forever, nothing. I think I have been screwed by the pawnshop. Is there anyway of restoring this thing or is now just a $60.00 paperweight?

torreto44. that does not work with a Disabled iPod. Jim's gave the correct answer for a Disabled iPod

User showing locked in SU01 but not in BP-Internet User and vice versa

Why is it when when a user is locked in their CRM SU01 it won't show that that same user is locked on their BP-Internet User Tab and vice versa. We are eexperiencing issues where our web users are getting locked out. Are support team only has access to the web users BP-Internet User tab. When the suport team goes to unlock the user the lock check box is not checked in the BP. But when you go to the SU01 the account is showing as locked and vice versa, we're seeing the BP lock box checked but on the SU01 it says the account isn't locked. Isn't the BP-Internet User tab reading off of the SU01 account?

Hi,
From your question, I infer that the BP and CRM are using multiple User Management Engines (UMEs). If you have a centralized UME, you should not experience this issue. Please post back with complete details.

- Charge the iPod for half an hour. Then reset the iPod:

Have you lost the iPhone, or are you just testing this feature?
If the device is offline it will not be able to recieve the remote lock request.
There is not much you can do if this is the case.

LSO- Lock a Course but still make it Visible in the Portal

Hello Experts,
Has anyone come across a scenario, where they had to lock the course but still make it visible in the Portal?
I know there is an option of Lock/Unlock in the Backend but that does not solve this requirement as it also disappears the course from the Portal.
We still want to show the course in the Portal but make it non bookable for the user.
Any Suggestions please?

Thanks for your response.
Its a business requirement as they want to lock the course 10-15 days before the due date but still make it visible to students.
All the standard fuctionalities like 'No Intranet Tab' and 'Lock/Unlock' does not solve this purpose.
Any advise on that please?

We have maintained enque parameters in ASCS80 profile and restarted SAP.
Still we are facing the same error.
The parameters which we have maintained are as below:
enque/table_size = 50000
rdisp/enqname = $(rdisp/myname)
rdisp/myname = SIDci_SID_00
The last parameter rdisp/myname = SIDci_SID_00 from above list is also maintained in instance profile of ci and application server as well as in default profile.
The parameter rdisp/enqname = $(rdisp/myname) is also present in SCS10 profile.
Please guide us on maintaining these parameters as it is maintained in almost all profiles.

Audio locked at playhead, but goes out of sync if video is cropped

Hi,
Using iMovie HD 6, I have the audio locked at playhead, but if I crop part of the video (beginning or ending), the audio goes out of sync.
Here's what I've done:
1) Extracted audio from video
2) Silenced this audio
3) Imported audio from audio recorder (Edirol R-09HR)
4) Synced the imported audio
*5) Attempted to crop part of the video footage in the timeline... goes out of sync
How do I keep the audio in sync when cropping video?

Hi JohnDoe2009 - firstly, extracting the audio is not necessary in your case. Simply mute the video's audio, by reducing its level to zero - that is what actually happens when you extract the audio, after all.
It is my experience also, that locking audio clips to particular video clips is not fail-safe if further cropping is done afterwards, especially if that cropping is fairly substantial. Where possible, do the syncing after all crop-editing has been completed.
As a last check I always review the syncing before finalising the movie.

Sounds like there's actually an issue with your Home button. Screenshots happen when you press both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons simultaneously.
