Welcome Email from Skype

I just received a welcome email from Skype indicating that somebody had used my email address to open an account. It has no use name as it states:
Hi there,
Congratulations on joining Skype! Now you can enjoy the magic of free face-to-face calls, instant messaging, screen sharing and so much more — all with Skype.
I have been a long time Skype user and already have a Skype account under the email address.

Spam email from Skype?

I am a long-time Skype user. Yesterday I started receiving email from what appears to be Skype from its [email protected] address. The email is fishy for several reasons: It is a welcome email addressed to Skype user "abdullah434771" but that is not my Skype username. The email is a welcome email despite the fact that I have been on Skype for ages. The email is in German (titled "Sagen Sie Hallo zur wundervollen Welt von Skype") but I do not speak German and have never listed it in any preferences. Lastly, it is coming to a legitmate gmail address of mine that is not the main email address linked to my Skype account. I have recevied this message twice now.
I am posting this here because there is clearly something wrong, even though the message visually appears to be a genuine Skype email. I do not want to keep hitting spam in my gmail settings as I did the first time as I do not want my gmail to start treating emails from Skype as spam. Has someone erroneously put my email as their own? What should I do?

Any person can create a Skype account and register any email address (valid or not) in it. I think this is one weakness of the Skype registration system. Moreover, you may need to report this to Skype Support and request to unlink that unknown account from your email address.

Is this email from Skype or is it a spoof email?

Hello Skype Community, i got this email this morning 23.May.2014 from hello8[at]emails[dot]skype[dot]com.
I'm from Norway and its sendt to me in Norwegian.
Is it legit?

On 17.May I registered a second skype account with samsung note tablet skype app for android with my second email account.
Second Email Account: 17.May - Get Started (Welcome[at]emails[dot]skype[dot]com).
Second Email Account: 20.May - Get to know skype (Welcome1[at]emails[dot]skype[dot]com).
Primary Email Account: 23.May - New group chat needs update (hello8[at]emails[dot]skype[dot]com).
Second Email Account: 24.May - 1 Month free call (Welcome[at]emails[dot]skype[dot]com).
I've seen others reports emails about this offer or update (alert/hello/welcome[at]emails[dot]skype[dot]com).

This link directs you to a website that may look like Skype; however, it is controlled by a third party and when you enter your Skype Name and password, the third party may store this information and use it for malicious purposes.

Nope, just a winner of a scam. There is no national contest or lottery. Beyond how unbelievable it is, there will be major grammar and spelling issues throughout the correspondence you received that gives it away.

As you recall your account was hijacked earlier this year and during that time some orders were made which we refunded. We are currently using the language that was used on the Skype account website while the last order was placed. Not receiving initial apple verification email - email address is known working and correct - Sent verification email muliple times - Actually got an welcome email from this community site using same email address - any ideas?

Trying to setup a new ipod touch for the first time - Setup apple ID and used an existing known working email address - Accepted terms and sent verification - never received the email. Email account is known working - (Note: actually received a welcome email from the apple community site when I posted this question). Resent the verification email multiple times from the IPOD - No luck - Logged into PC and attempt to resend the verification email and that did not work. Any one have any ideas?

Check the trash folder also. Spam could get deleted immediately, depending on how you configured your Comcast account.

Is this a phishing email from skype type address?

I have received an email, that looks like it came from Skype with the title like this: "Your desktop version of Skype is being retired. Update today." The email address is from: [email protected]
There's a button in the email that suggest me to click on it to update my skype for desktop.
Is this a real email from Skype, or is it a Phishing or Malware email using pseudo skype emails? This is the first time I've received an email like this so I don't know is this email really from skype or not.

This email is real. What is the version of Skype program installed on your computer? In Skype go to Help -> About Skype.
Skype versions older than 6.14 will soon be retired.

Hi! Two times so far that I received a strange email from Skype, in spanish or something!! I'm wondering what this is all about and why the heck spanish? I'm french canadian!
The email says something like :
Tu crédito quedará inactivo en 3 días.
Aparentemente, hace tiempo que no usas tu crédito de Skype. Recuerda que si no lo usas en un periodo de 180 días queda inactivo. Pero no te preocupes porque una vez que quede inactivo puedes reactivarlo cuando estés listo para usarlo. Simplemente inicia sesión en tu cuenta en Internet y sigue los pasos para reactivar el crédito. Detalles de tu cuenta:
Nombre de usuario: (myusername)
Saldo: CAD6,86
Plus, why is it talking about my account not being active and a balance of $6,86 I should have over $16...

That message translate to;
Your credit is inactive in 3 days.
Apparently you have not you use your Skype Credit. Remember that if you use it in a period of 180 days is inactive. But do not worry because once you reactivate it is idlewhen you are ready to use. Just log into your online account and follow the steps to revivecredit. Details of your account:

you may need to contact customer service, you can also ask them to change the language of the emails you are receiving.

Why am I getting emails from Skype in Chinese?

I am a resident of India, and my preferred language of communication is English. Strangely, all the official email (communication/alerts/notifications) that I'm receiving from Skype support is in Chinese (I translate them in google to read them)!
Does this indicate that my Skype account is compromised anyhow? I do not notice any suspicious activity in my account though. Just the fact that all official emails from Skype are in Chinese language

I had the same thing happen to me today as well. My account was locked between the time I logged off last night and logged back in again this morning. I reset my password and the confirmation e-mail came to me in Chinese. I do not have any stored payment information for Skype, but I checked all the purchase history and everything else on my account. Someone had linked my Skype account to their Microsoft account. I'm assuming that Microsoft account was setup for Chinese and that's where the setting came in from. In my Skype profile, all language settings are English. I've unlinked that Microsoft account, but Skype e-mails are still coming over in Chinese.
Makes me glad I don't have any saved payment information in my Skype account.

All my settings in Skype are for the english language, but I still cannot find where to inform you of my email notifications from YOU, Skype to be able to recive them in my own language, English. I have tried several months ago and was told to change my settings in my account to English, they where ALLWAYS English, I never changed them.
Please this could be just a few lines of code that can be added to ones profile that will make Skype better. Thank you for listening!

Have received a stange email from [email protected] offering you the chance to win a Virgin prepayment card if you join in the idealab on skype. Seems like an elaborate scam to obtain you personal detiails. Anyone know anything about it?

That is a scam, particularly if the "award" supposedly was sent to you from Skype. The scammers have become too polished at spoofing legitimate companies. You are right to be suspicious.
