Welcome screen is gone on startups

I always put the machine to sleep overnight but yesterday morning it was OFF. I hit the start button and the fans go wild but the Mac doesn't start. I force shut it down; I unplug it, and after plugging it in again and waiting a couple of minutes I Start the Mac again. I hear the chime; the grey screen comes on with a question mark very briefly and than recognizes the volume and the apple appears. It takes a long while but finally the blue screen comes up. The blue screen changes tone a couple of times and finally my desktop is visible but without first seeing the Welcome screen with the blue loading bar.
I did permissions; restarted several times and EVEN installed a clean copy of Leopard on an empty HD that I use as scratch. No more welcome screen and the startup process is taking longer...
Any ideas are very welcome!

Nobody had this ever happen? Just a blue screen after the gray screen without the welcome square with the loading bar?

Not inexpensive, you should decide whether it's worth doing, or upgrading to a new machine, yours is no longer supported, and neither are there any new apps that will work on it.  It may be time to bite the bullet and get a new one, you can look in the Apple Store refurbished section for good deals.

  • PSE 7 Welcome Screen startup options and turning off the advertising

The PSE 7 Welcome Screen no longer provides a start-up option for bypassing it and going directly to the Organizer or Editor. In addition, many people are annoyed by the advertising for Photoshop.com on the Welcome Screen and by the constant flashing tips in the lower right corner of the Organizer and Editor.
    Here are some workarounds:
Create shortcuts directly to the Organizer and Editor. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to
    > C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0
Find the file PhotoshopelementsEditor.exe, right-click it, and select Create Shortcut. You can then drag the shortcut to your desktop or the Start Menu. Alternatively, you can right click photoshopelementseditor.exe and click Pin To Start Menu, which will place a shortcut on the Windows Start menu. Do the same thing for the file PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe.
Turn off the advertising on the Welcome Screen. By turning off the advertising, you can still use the Welcome Screen to get to the Organizer, the Editor, Photoshop.com, and the tutorials. Use Windows Explorer to set the permissions of
    >C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US\Welcome Screen Pods
to deny Read & execute for Everyone (The path is a little different on XP.)
Turn off the flashing tips on the lower right corner of the Organizer and Editor. Use Windows Explorer to set the permissions of
    >C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US\Messaging Pods
to deny Read & execute for Everyone. (The path is a little different on XP.)

    You said -----------
Turn off the flashing tips on the lower right corner of the Organizer and Editor. Use Windows Explorer to set the permissions of
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US\Messaging Pods to deny Read & execute for Everyone. (The path is a little different on XP.)
I am using XP and the path to the folder is as follows:
    C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US\Messaging Pods
However, I can't figure out how to "set the permissions". Is this possible in XP? Could someone please elaborate.
I am only interested in changing the tips (in the lower right corner that lead you to photoshop.com) in the Editor, since I do not use the Welcome Screen or Organizer.
    Thanks,

  • Suppressing welcome screen at startup

I would like to suppress the welcome screen dialog from initially opening or preset the checkbox "Don't Show Again" checkbox. We have a customer with multiple users and they don't want the welcome screen to show up the first time a new user launches his copy of InDesign. I know you only need to click on the "Don't Show Again" checkbox and the dialog won't show up for subsequent launches. But this is too much for our customer and they want the default to be that it doesn't show up. I've found the kPMWSetScreenPrefsCmdBoss but there is no description of the interface for the IID_IPMWSCREENPREFSCMDDATA so I don't know if this might be an option. There are some other boss classes for the welcome screen plug-in (kPMWelcomeStartupShutdownBoss, kPMCloseWelcomeScreenCmdBoss, etc.) but it is unclear whether any of these offer a method of preventing or closing the dialog.
Any suggestions on how I can either preset something to prevent it from initially opening or force it to close should it open during launch?

    Hi
Easiest way to get rid of that dialog is to disable or remove plugin. Don't have access to machine with indesign at this moment, but in plugins folder, (PMPack, welcomescreen.pln ) - not sure about those names.

  • When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15", my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen.  How do I fix this??

    Hi Everyone,
This problem just started today.  When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version), my screen is light gray like normal, and then after a few seconds my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds, and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen (where I choose to login as myself or a guest user).  This suddenly started today and has not stopped since.  This keeps happening every single time I turn on or restart my computer.
Yesterday I installed all the Mavericks and other updates that were available in the App Store, so I'm wondering if this is related to that since this never happened prior to my doing those updates yesterday.  When I first installed the new OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) update, it went through the whole installation process (took about 10 minutes), and then during the installation I got an error message saying that it couldn't verify my iTunes application that was on my laptop, and then my laptop finished installing the updates.  Then once my laptop restarted, the App Store "Updates" section said that I had to do the whole OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) and iTunes (Version 11.2) updates all over again.  So my laptop did the whole installation again (took about 10 minutes, but this time I didn't get that "iTunes error message" during the installation process).
Now, when I go to the App Store "Updates" section, it says the following under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 days":
-Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update (Version 5.05) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -Security Update 2014-002 (Version 1.0) installed April 22, 2014
I'm wondering if this flashing bright yellow screen upon bootup is related to the fact that my laptop installed the OS X Update and the iTunes Update two times each?  Or is this new problem totally unrelated?  It's just that this problem started a day after these 2 updates were installed twice.
My Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version) is otherwise working fine at least as of now.  The only issue so far is this flashing bright yellow screen every time I turn on or restart my computer.
If anyone could please help me fix this so that my bootup screen doesn't flash completely bright yellow anymore, I would be forever grateful!
Thank you so much for reading this and for any help you can provide.
    hope everyone is well,
    Elaine

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

    Hi,
    at last known good configuration.
after you have access to the OS level. possible to click start > run > type eventvwr
check on the systems and application logs for errors.
have you try systems restore ? if not maybe you might want to check if you have any systems restore point ?
systems restore might be able to help u to get away with this problem.
But if u dont have any restore point. Then i will suggest you to back up all your data and do a clean setup, by reinstalling windows 7.

  • In Aperture 3.3.1, how do I open Welcome Screen?

In Aperture 3.3.1, how do I reopen Welcome to Aperture screen, that is supposed to open the first time Aperture is used?  Earlier responses to same question, including resetting the Reset al Warnings under General Preferences do not seem to work.  Also, does 3.3.1 have the same Welcome Screen that was previously available, and in which one could check a box and have it reopen each time Aperture was opened?

That "Welcome" screen seems to be gone.  There are several informative links listed under "Help".  What exactly are you looking for?

  • TV screen has gone black

The TV screen has gone blank, we were watching it and changed the channel and since then it has remained blank with no sound. It is still working as we can get all the menus up and can change channels but the screen remains black.
We've tried restarting the BT box but there's no change, we've tried re-scanning the channels but again no change.
    Please help!

Hi Jen_S, welcome to the BT forum!
You may be receiving a low freeview signal, if you have a booster fitted please ensure it is still switched on. Also could you please try removing the aerial from RF IN and rescanning, this will clear your channel list and allow a fresh scan. Once done, reconnect the aerial and rescan again. This should resolve the issue. If not can you let me know if you're receiving all channels you normally would.

You may have a failing memory module or a failing hard disk.
The first thing to try is a hard reset as follows:
    1) Remove the battery and unplug the DC power adapter.
    2) Press and hold the power button for more than fifteen seconds.
    3) Plug in the DC power adapter (leave the battery out for now)
    4) Press the power button
Please post your positive or negative results here in your thread.
If that does not produce results, then reseat the memory modules. Start by removing both modules. Put one memory module at a time in the slot that is nearer the center of the notebook and power on. If one module does not produce the positive results, then try the same with the other module.
If no joy with the memory modules then remove the hard disk and power on the notebook.
    What happens?
If it boots up and the BIOS reports that it can find no bootable OS, then there is a big chance that the hard disk has issues and needs to be replaced with a new one.

  • Photoshop CS5 Welcome Screen

    Hi all,
Since installing CS5 Web Premium, the Welcome Sceen does not display and I cannot find how to get it back.
I like having the Welcome Screen displayed at startup, and normally (all other CS5 programs) to get it back you go to the "Help" menu and select "Welcome Screen", but this is not the case in Photoshop CS5 (at least not with my software).
Has this been taken away from Photoshop, or has the process to get it to show again changed?

Photoshop Elements had a Welcome Screen.
For me Photoshop full version only has a splash screen, but I do not have the full suite.

  • PP CC 2014. All screens are gone. PPro seems to be running invisibly.

I very briefly tried to watch my project on my Apple TV. It has worked many times in the past, but not today. Immediately after the Apple TV started, all the Premiere Pro windows were gone from my computer display. I shut down the Apple TV and the computer, relaunched, deleted preferences, repaired permissions, but no project was visible. I deleted the entire app and reinstalled, same problem.
I borrowed my son's MacBook, installed Premiere Pro CC14, and the project (located on an external drive) is running fine on his machine.
On my machine, After Effects CC, Photoshop CC, and all other apps are working fine.
On my machine, it appears that the MacBook "thinks" the project is open. When I start the app, the welcome screen appears. Interestingly, the welcome screen usually appears off-center. I click on a project, a progress meter appears briefly, but the screen remains blank. The top menu bar remains intact, even allowing me to edit the current (invisible) project.
It behaves as if it's located on a separated monitor, but I can't find it anywhere. Getting desperate. I need to work on the project this weekend. Thanks!

It's definitely running. The top menu bar is still active. I even tried to reset the work space, to no avail.
The app seems to be working properly, even past the welcome screen. A progress meter says it's opening the app, then it suddenly stops with no windows appearing. The top menu bar remains, apparently, completely normal.

  • Toshiba Satellite won't go past Toshiba welcome screen.

Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop that was shut while running and sat overnight without power so it was basically sleeping.
In the morning, I turned it on and it froze on the Toshiba welcome screen which is the first thing you see when you start up the laptop.
The keyboard and mouse wouldn't work which didn't let me go into safe mode.
Also, the little cylinder light that indicates when the computer loads was completely on and stayed on.
    It runs on Windows XP.
And now it does this everytime I turn it on and won't go any further.
    Please help! Thanks!

The computer is not finding a boot device or files. Go into the Bios and check the Boot Priority. On most Toshiba Satellites, you either hit the Escape key or the F2 key to get into the Bios. Make sure that the first boot device is the hard drive. Often you will see this abreviated at HDD. Also make sure that the hard drive is being seen in the Bios. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios you are not going to boot into Windows. Guaranteed. If the hard drive is being seen in the Bios and is the first boot device in the Boot Priority and it is still not going beyond the Toshiba splash screen, then you have a major software problem. In that case the only option is run the Recovery CDs and see if you can reimage the hard drive. If the hard drive is not being seen in the Bios, this could indicate that the hard drive is not properly connected to the computer or has gone bad. In that case, you will be talking to your friendly Toshiba authorized repair center for diagnostics and repairs.

  • Windows 7 x32 freezing at welcome screen

    Hi,
I've got an image which is currently deployed around the workplace. Recently we updated the server to ZCM 11.1 and therefore I updated the agent on the previous image, recaptured and redeployed.
I've noticed after a few weeks there are random issues occurring such as the Welcome screen freezing up. Now this did not occur on the same image, different ZCM agent version, but it is occurring now with ZCM agent 11.1. I've got all the latest updates from MS and Novell (updated Novell Client as well) but when users log into a room of 30 computers, a third of the room's computers will freeze up. Powercycling the computer and then attempting to login a second time will generally work OK.
I've gone around and logged in myself to each computer and I had a few freezing up. Eventually I got to a point where it would log in without a hitch. Two days later, staff are complaining of the computers freezing up.
I've looked through Event Viewer but did not find anything out of the ordinary. The workstations do have a DLU applied but users are set to administrators so that doesn't seem to be affecting it I don't think.
Is anyone else experiencing these issues or something similar? Any ideas on what could be causing it?

    good to hear
We have 11.1 and i experience random "logon delays" - maybe not connected to the case you described:
    * happends very seldom (1 out of 20 or 30 logons)
the logon delay of ca. 30 seconds happens after succesful novell login and before windows logon takes over and shows the "[rotating circle] welcome"
it seems like a timeout with the Zen Agent. Hope i will not see it with 11.2
