Welcome Screen Woes

The basic issue: Dreamweaver/Flash hangs indefinitely at the
welcome screen after being opened and cannot be used/ must be
forced quit. I can’t click anything and certainly can use the
program.
My System:
Intel Mac Pro
Two 2.66 Ghz Intel Processors
2 GB Ram
ATI X1900 Card with 512 MB Memory
Internet Connection
Operating System: Mac OSX 10.4.9
How to produce the problem:
1. Ensure internet connection is enabled.
2. Open Dreamweaver
Results: Upon opening, Dreamweaver/Flash hangs indefinitely
at the welcome screen. All menus and tool bars load, but the
welcome screen displays a blank box at which point the cursor
spins, the program freezes and must be forced quit.
Normally the welcome screen should load quickly and display
the various document options as well as a link to adobe. (Assuming
an internet connection is available. If not, a static graphic
should be displayed in the lower right corner.) After extensive
trouble shooting I narrowed the problem down to the internet
connection. Without an internet connection (Ethernet cable
unplugged) the welcome screen loaded promptly and didn’t hang
however the link normally provided in the lower right hand corner
was missing since there was no internet available. The program then
ran normally.
When the internet was connected, the program would load up to
the welcome screen and then hang without displaying any options. No
menus were available and nothing could be done in the program. The
only solution at this point was to force quit.
I spoke with a tech support agent and worked through the
majority of the steps outlined here (
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=kb401096)
to no avail. As far as I can tell, the issue is caused by the
welcome screen failing to access the internet content necessary to
load. I was able to disable the welcome screen by disconnecting the
internet, opening Dreamweaver/Flash, disabling it via the options,
and then reconnecting the internet. However, this of course
prevents the use of the welcome screen, a feature I find useful.
Notes: The welcome screen for Illustrator and InDesign load
flawlessly and quickly and are not affected by the internet
connection.
Has anyone else experienced this? Adobe’s tech agent
told me it might be an issue with my internet, but I doubt that is
the case. I have submitted a bug report to adobe, but was curious
if anyone else had found a solution or had any idea why this is
happening. Why can Illustrator and InDesign load the web links and
not Flash and Dreamweaver.
I know the welcome screen is hardly a “necessary”
feature, but considering the price one pays for this software, it
would be nice if it worked.

I had this problem with both Photoshop and Illustrator. After several tries, I spoke with someone in Adobe tech Support who said it was a KNOWN ISSUE with the welcome screen and then took control of my computer, removed some files and now everything is fine. You have to talk to two different department, one for Illustrator and one for Photoshop for the fix. 6 phone calls and a total of about that many hours dealing with this BS. Epic, epic fail, Adobe.
The one thing I know for sure now, the Adobe staffers who work on these forums don't know what they're talking about.

  • Photoshop/Premiere Elements 10 installed but won't run past Welcome screen

I bought and downloaded Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 for Windows 7 - 64 bit on Dec.31/11.  There were no error messages in the download, although the Akamai downloader screen didn't seem to show 100% before proceeding to the next step.  Everything appeared to install correctly (it's  a long process!).
At first, clicking on the desktop icons or the Start Menu list would bring up the Welcome splash screen, where the broad options (Organize, Edit, New Project) were shown.  However, clicking on these options had no effect at all.  Eventually even the Welcome screen wouldn't appear. I checked the Windows task manager and no applications were running.
I checked the shortcut properties and noticed that there was a separate executable in the target directory (eg. existing link was to "Adobe Premiere Elements 10.exe", but there was also a file called "Adobe Premiere Elements.exe"), which did run...however, I couldn't launch the Organizer from that program, and the "Home" link to the Welcome screen didn't function either.
With thousands of these programs being downloaded, I'm surprised that this serious glitch hasn't surfaced before.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

There are three different programs -- Photoshop Elements (PSE) which is for editing bitmaps, Premiere Elements which is for video editing, and the PSE Organizer which is for cataloging your media.
I don't like the sound of that Akamai downloader not registering 100%.
Uninstall all the Adobe products, reboot, and download the installation package again.  Check the Properties on that downloaded file and "Unblock" it if Windows has flagged it as "possibley harmful and coming from another computer" before starting the installation.

  • Itunes 11 welcome screen every time I open the program.

    Yeah,
itunes 11 opens to welcome screen every time I open the programme.
    OS Win8
    very annoying
    help?

This is what worked for me!!!!!
    Close iTunes.
With Windows Explorer go to View in the top menu and allow Hidden Files.
    Navigate to:
    C:\Users\[which ever user is you]\Appdata\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete all files in this directory.
Start iTunes and see the Welcome Screen for hopefully the last time!
I am not an expert.  This was a stab in the dark based on the Mac ByHosts solution and it just happened to work for me.  Give it a try and let me know if it works.
    Good Luck!

  • When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15", my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen.  How do I fix this??

    Hi Everyone,
This problem just started today.  When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version), my screen is light gray like normal, and then after a few seconds my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds, and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen (where I choose to login as myself or a guest user).  This suddenly started today and has not stopped since.  This keeps happening every single time I turn on or restart my computer.
Yesterday I installed all the Mavericks and other updates that were available in the App Store, so I'm wondering if this is related to that since this never happened prior to my doing those updates yesterday.  When I first installed the new OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) update, it went through the whole installation process (took about 10 minutes), and then during the installation I got an error message saying that it couldn't verify my iTunes application that was on my laptop, and then my laptop finished installing the updates.  Then once my laptop restarted, the App Store "Updates" section said that I had to do the whole OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) and iTunes (Version 11.2) updates all over again.  So my laptop did the whole installation again (took about 10 minutes, but this time I didn't get that "iTunes error message" during the installation process).
Now, when I go to the App Store "Updates" section, it says the following under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 days":
-Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update (Version 5.05) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -Security Update 2014-002 (Version 1.0) installed April 22, 2014
I'm wondering if this flashing bright yellow screen upon bootup is related to the fact that my laptop installed the OS X Update and the iTunes Update two times each?  Or is this new problem totally unrelated?  It's just that this problem started a day after these 2 updates were installed twice.
My Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version) is otherwise working fine at least as of now.  The only issue so far is this flashing bright yellow screen every time I turn on or restart my computer.
If anyone could please help me fix this so that my bootup screen doesn't flash completely bright yellow anymore, I would be forever grateful!
Thank you so much for reading this and for any help you can provide.
    hope everyone is well,
    Elaine

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • How to delete file from DW welcome screen

Don't know much about CS3, but learning. Erased some files,
started over again, but noticed the name of the file/site is still
showing on the "welcome" screen when I open CS3. Can't find a way
    to delete it. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

i think you might just have to wait until you've
    opened/created enough
files to move the old ones down and off the list.
or you could just click the "don't show again" box on the
    Welcome
screen. it's not really necessary, because you can find all
    of those
options in the menu at the top as well. that welcome screen
    may seem
handy now, but you'll probably get sick of it eventually. i
    know i did!

  • Can't open web pdf document: Adobe Reader 10 stops at welcome screen

    I installed Adobe Reader X.
Now, when I open a pdf file from the web, the browser (either Google Chrome, Opera or Firefox) downloads the file and opens Adobe X.
Funny, I thought. Up to this date (using Adobe 9) the browser opened the file into a browser window, using the plugin.
Of course, I went into Reader Edit/Preferences/Internet and checked the "Display PDF in browser" to no avail: instead of opening the pdf inside the browser, the browser launches the Reader X program.
However, after downloading the pdf and opening Reader X, you find a nice gorram welcome screen.
As there is no way to close that screen (you have to choose one of the documents opened in the past or pick a document from the disk), Adobe Reader will not open the file I just picked in the browser. It just sits there waiting for me to pick one of the options of this welcoming screen.
Of course, the page with the files I'm trying to download uses an script or something similar to load them, so I cannot right click on any of the files to download them to a folder and then open them using Reader's "Open file" option.
The file I'm trying to open is this one: http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRTRV19.pdf
The page where the file resides is this one: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=DCRTRV19&template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=man uals#/manualsTab
So, how in heaven do I open this file from my browser? (as I said, Opera, Chrome and Firefox all display the same behaviour. I haven't tried IE and I refuse to do it).
To be sincere, in Firefox the file opened once. I read the first pages and then I made the mistake of indicating to the browser that it should use the Adobe X to open pdf files. (Firefox "offered" that option out of its "own free will").
Now I have the same problem in Firefox: I see a nice blue bar that indicates the percentage of the file downloaded and, when it reaches 100%, Adobe opens and "freezes" the browser, because Reader sits there at the welcome screen and the browser is waiting for the file to open.
Of course, the help for plug ins at Firefox and Opera (I haven't checked Chrome) says simply: download Adobe Reader and that's it.
I frankly hate this behaviour: up to this date Reader has been the source of simplicity, the example of a software that does only what it was made to do, sitting quietly in my PC, churning pdf files without the slightest complain, a veritable jewel among poorly designed software.
As this unclosable welcome screen seems to me a blatant attempt by Adobe to undercut the many web sites that offer to translate PDFs to Word documents, my only thoughts are: thanks, people at Adobe! You have managed to break the unbreakable.
Can anyone help me? This day has been a nice one up to this moment...

Please let me know the following details:
    1. The exact version of Adobe Reader on your system. You can get the same by clicking on Help > About Adobe Reader or getting the same information from the Add/Remove Programs section in the Conrol Panel. If its not the latest version of Reader i.e. 11.0.03, please download the same from: http://get.adobe.com/reader and see if it solves the issue.
    2. Does the issue also happen if you just launch the Reader application alone without launching any PDF.
    3. Are you using any 3rd party plugin for Adobe Reader. If so, please remove the same and see if it solves your problem.
In case you arent sure regarding the same, please follow the below steps and see if it helps:
         a. Navigate to the Reader installation folder. Usually its C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 11.0
         b. Ensure that Adobe Reader is not running and delete the entire "Reader" folder
         c. Initiate a Repair transaction for Adobe Reader from the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
    4. Try temporarily disabling the Anitivirus software, and see if it solves your issue.

  • Want to start PSE 12 in photo editor but it will only start in Orgaizer, can't get to welcome screen and the .exe file that Adobe said to look for does not exist on my files

Have tried to start PSE 12 in photo editor but it continues to start in Organizer.  I do not want my pictures loaded in Organizer at all.  Saw a page on the web that said to click on an .exe editor file but that is not on my files.  Also cannot get a welcome screen to come up, only an organizer even though I checked it the first time to come up in photo editor.  I'm now having Organizer crammed down my throat.  Tried online chat but was cut off with the statement that no support is offered for v12 any longer.

    Hi,
You failed to say which operating system you are running on so I'm assuming it is Windows of some type.
You should be able to find the following files, using explorer, depending on your system.
    64bit system: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
    32bit system: "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe"
Double clicking on that should start the editor - suggest to create a shortcut to it.
If you can't find one of those files, then you either installed it somewhere else or you need to re-install elements.

  • On Macbook pro how do I reset my premiere elements 12 welcome screen back as it was to ask if existing or new project.

Hi there, on my macbook pro, can anyone tell me please how I can reset the welcome screen in Premiere Elements 12 back to how it was, were it asks to open an existing project or a new one. I made the mistake of changing the settings to open Premiere Elements editor by default but now it opens straight into a new project each time. Many thanks.

I am strictly an Elements Windows user, but I think I am on common ground with this response. Please check it out.
Resetting of the Welcome Screen is done using the icon to which the arrow points in the screenshot.
If you cannot get to the Welcome Screen due to a prior set, then in the Open project, if you have a Window Menu, go to Window Menu/Welcome Screen.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
    Thanks.

  • After enabling the Built-in Administrator account, it is not shown on Welcome screen

    Hello,
    I have Windows 7 Starter SP1.
I have previously successfully enabled and then logged on, to the built-in administrator account,  and then when I had finished using it, disabled it again.
Unfortunately today, I found that when I enabled the built-in administrator account, it no longer appears on the Welcome screen.
I went through the process of enabling it by doing:
    Start/Search "CMD"/right-click CMD/Run as administrator.
    net user administrator active:yes
It confirms: "The command completed successfully."
However, when I log off and log back on (or do shut down and restart), the Welcome screen does not display any option for the Built-in Administrator account.
I have also tried doing the above in Safe mode, and also using Command Prompt from a Rescue disk.
    As background information:
The reason why I wanted to access this account today, was because I attempted to defrag a partition listed as "(1% fragmented)" and after Defrag appeared to complete while at "Pass 2",  the partition is still shown as 1% fragmented.
I would appreciate advice how to resolve the issue with the built-in administrator account.
    Regards,
    Robert339

    Hello Niki Han,
Thank you for your response. I have not yet had an opportunity to look into what you have written  but wish to thank you for that information.
Meanwhile, I would like to discuss the possible cause for this issue. I know the date when I last successfully accessed the built-in Administrator account, which was April 18, 2012.
Since I was last able to use that account on April 18, 2012, I have made no changes to the system other than install all Important Microsoft Updates through Windows Update.
A full scan with Windows Defender finds no threats.
A full scan with Avast finds no threats.
I beleive Microsoft may wish to ensure that this issue has not been caused by any of the following  30 updates. If it has been caused by one of these updates, then Microsoft should consider issuing a further update to correct this.

I recently restored my 2009 macbook to factory settings and now its stuck on the welcome screen where u choose your country. My trackpad allows me to move the arrow around but when I tap on it to select continue it does nothing at all. The only thing else it will allow me to do is go thru the voice over tutorial by pressing escape. Please help me fix this I need to use my computer.

    Hi, teezbreezy64.
I found a couple of resources to help troubleshoot the issue you are experiencing. The first is this article named Intel-based Mac notebooks: Troubleshooting unresponsive trackpad issues found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1248.
Try disconnecting the MagSafe connector from the computer and check the trackpad function. If the trackpad becomes responsive again, improper grounding may be the issue.
If a two-prong AC plug is being used with the power adapter, try using the three-prong power cable that shipped with your computer and plug it into a grounded outlet.
If the issue persists, make sure the third prong is present and do not use an adapter to enable the three-prong adapter to be used in a two-prong outlet. Note that the ground in the three-prong outlet may not be connected. This is common in older homes or buildings with replaced outlets. In these situations, the three-prong power cable will not improve trackpad responsiveness.
If a grounded outlet is not available, rest your palm on the palm rest when using the trackpad. This should enable the trackpad to function properly.
If that does not resolve the issue then I recommend resetting the SMC on your computer. Here is an article on how to do that:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

welcome screen.  In every instance I receive the following errors.  The number of errors is directly related to the amount of time it takes for the computer to log the user in which makes since with the 30 second timeout.

This morning the tech coordinator was stuck at the welcome screen for 30 minutes with 17 of the above messages until we forced the computer off and logged in successfully.  We rebooted immediately after logging into the computer and logged in a third
time without any issues.  I also checked the logs and didn't see or have any issues with the 2nd and 3rd login attempts.  The group policy client service also started successfully about 1 minute before the first error on the first attempt.
I also went through the Applications and Services Logs>Microsoft>Windows>GroupPolicy>Operational logs but didn't see any issues.  Here is the last entry in the log file until the reboot.  All 17 messages didn't generate any information
    in the GroupPolicy logs.

    Other Information
    1. Server OS - Windows 2008 R2 servers. ~20 servers with 7 DC's.
    2. Windows OS - Windows 7 x32 SP1 workstation. ~1200
    3. This happens on wireless and wired connections.
    4. This happens across all hardware and models of laptops and desktops.  Ranging from GX270 - Opti 760, Latitude D510 - Latitude E6410, Latitude 2100 - Latitude 2120's and all models in between.
    5. We are currently using SCCM 2012 to deploy images and applications.  The image was created through SCCM using Build and Capture so I never touched the image.
    6. The drivers were downloaded from Dell but this is happening on multiple machines so I don't think its driver related.
    7. We are using Forefront Antivirus.
    8. We upgraded the machines to 2Gig of ram and upgraded them from XP to Windows 7 this summer.
    9. We upgraded the servers from Windows 2003 R2 to Windows 2008 R2 this summer just before deploying Windows 7.
    10. This is only reported through the helpdesk on less than 10 computers each week but I'm told it happens more frequently when I'm in the buildings.
    11. We are using Group Policies to manage almost all aspects of the computer except for printers.  The printer drivers we are using are so slow that it added 60 to 180 seconds to the login time so I moved the printer mapping to a vbscript that
is launched through the logon script through a GPO.
Users are holding the power button in to shut down the machine as they can typically log in a second time without issues.  I have heard that a few people have issues logging into the computer the second time but it's normally running by the
    time I heard about it.
Are there any other logs that I can look at to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks for taking the time to read this issue.

Hmmm hard to say. If I was going to take a stab at it you might be hitting a DC in a remote site.

  • Premiere Elements 12 installed sign in cycle welcome screen no launch

For the last two days I have been trying to install and run Adobe Premiere Elements 12.
Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1
Dell Precision T5600, on an Intel Xeon CPU E5-2609 @ 2.40 GHz
    16 GB of RAM
    64-bit operating system
    NVIDIA Quadro 4000 graphics card
I selected the 64 bit version to install.  It launches the Install Wizard.  After several windows it asks for the serial number.  I enter the serial number and it completes the installation.  I restart my computer.
I launch the program and after a few moments the "welcome screen" pops up.  I select "new projects" under the video editor.  It then asks for me to "sign in" with my Adobe ID.  After a few seconds it seems to be verifying the serial number.  After sometime, nothing happens.  The program does not launch the video editor.  Instead, it goes back to the welcome window and continues the cycle over again.
No error messages.  It just continues in this loop.
After rebooting my computer and relaunching, it repeats this process, but it sometimes does not even return to the welcome window.  It just exits quietly to the desktop.  No error messages.  If I pull up the "task manager", I can see that the application is not running(therefore not listed) in the task manager.

  • How do I disable the welcome screen in iCloud

This may seem like a simple question but every time I attempt to access my iCloud account, I get the Welcome screen asking me if I want to activate Find Your device (whatever device I'm using) and if I want to activate Find my Friends (NO) etc.  Half the time I don't even know what the correct address is for iPad and get all kinds of other websites and I just give up.  Now I'm in a CRITICAL SITUATION in which I've gotten a Time Machine message that my WD Drive is no longer backing up and must be reformatted immediatly  - YIKES!  As you all can see I am very frustrated - I am still in the process of restoring data I lost from a hard drive failure in JUNE 2011 LOL How do I disable the Welcome screen in iCloud?  What exactly is the correct web address?  Sounds like a question for Watson.  I know others have had a similar problem with WD external drives; can I recover enough data to get me back up and running?  All my Time Machine back ups are on that drive. Awhile ago I bought Carbon Copy; it is apparently not functioning as it should (again back up on that drive) because I did the upgrade prior to getting the data off the WD drive, it installed a Trial Carbon Copy and is now asking me to reinstall what is sees as new software thus the last disc image is "lost.  HELP PLEASE

Where are you trying to access your iCloud account, and from what device?
If you are trying to access your iCloud account at http://www.icloud.com/ from an iOS device, you can't. The iCloud.com website is not designed to be accessed from iOS devices - access it on your Mac.
Your Time Machine and WD external backups and Carbon Copy backups are nothing to do with iCloud, so I don't know what you think accessing iCloud will achieve in your situation anyay.
