Welcome to IWeb 08 worldwide Bata

It is not proper to change the file structure without telling all the users in advance what those changes are and how they must update their websites. The bugs in this software should have been found before release and points to inadequate testing.
We expect more from Apple and are sadly disappointed. resolve the issues quickly and issue an update so that we can repair our crippled websites

looks like Apple found a solution:

great, now my Dad needs to buy OS X 10.4 to see my pictures from Ireland. if i knew that bevore, I would not have upgraded.

  • "Welcome" in iWeb page

When I do my initial design, the word "Welcome" appears in the upper left hand corner. When I go to web view, the word is above the layout, so seemingly it won't be in what I upload via Transmit X software (I don't have a dot Mac account). However, when I look at my web site, the "Welcome" is still there.
    How do I fix this?

If your page in the Site Organizer pane of iWeb is named Welcome that is what will display in the top of the window when published and viewed by a browser. If you want that to say something different, double click Welcome in the Site Organize pane and edit it to what you want the page to be called.
Here are some restrictions to what should and should not be used in site and page names. This is from iWeb's Help file:
    Renaming a website or webpage
You can rename a site or page at any time by double-clicking its name in the site organizer and typing the new name.
The page name appears at the top of the visitor's browser.
The site name is included in the website's address (URL):
    http://web.mac.com/[YourMemberName]/iWeb/[SiteName]
Renamed pages and sites (as well as the site's URL) change online the next time you publish.
IMPORTANT: If you rename a site, previously created links to your site won't work; be sure to notify your visitors, especially your blog or podcast subscribers.
Browsers convert spaces in site names to "%20." To avoid these symbols, use an underscore, hyphen, or some other character instead of a space. Also avoid non-Roman characters; many get converted to numbers when you publish.
Other characters aren't recommended for use in website names, including: forward and backward slashes (/ \), brackets ([ ]), tilde (~), exclamation point , question mark (?), "at" sign (@), number sign (#), dollar sign ($), ampersand (&), asterisk (*), colon (:), equal sign (=), comma (,), and double quotation marks ("). Using these characters may result in names with strange numbers in them.

  • Welcome to iWeb '09! 'This version requires updates...'

I was previously using iWeb 1.1 on a MBP running Leopard, and when I got a new Mac Mini, it came with iWeb 3.0.3. I placed the old domain file into the iWeb folder per the instructions here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iWeb/3.0/en/6925.html
And when I open iWeb, it says This version requires updates to your Domain file, which contains all of your website information."
When I choose "Update", it asks me to choose a style, and opens a new site page, instead of my previous one. Does this mean I have to rebuild my web site all over again, if I use the newer software?

    I tried that.
That is when iWeb tells me it needs to update the file before opening it, then opens a fresh page. It is also not opening on the laptop running iWeb 1.1.
I think it has lost the path to the web files. (I haven't moved them.)

  • IWeb 2.0.1 users are in deep trouble. APPLE please don't let us down!!!!!!!

The new iWeb version has a lot of cool new features. THANKS APPLE
But also has a lot of bug's.... but a lot of them
I will try to make a list.
If you post your findings we can make a big list and sent it to APPLEsomething like "UIUW" "United iWeb Users Worldwide". Instead of each one sending a separate feedback and clogging up their feedback pages and giving them a hard time.
    So the list starts.
    1. Disappearing Files from iweb package projects
iWeb keepscopys of images and linked files inside its package project.
I would think that it has a routine that checks the contents of the project package and deletes files that are not used any more. In that process it will also delete files that are needed.
This probably makes all the disappearing issues in the web pages.
    2.Localized support problems
iweb 2.0.1 like 1.2.1 have the same limitation.
There is only one input field for page title that will appear on your menu bar and also for the name of the html file and the folder that keeps its files
I am Greek so my menus would be something like "ΚΑΛΩΣ ΗΛΘΑΤΕ"
iWeb 1.2.1 would code this and the page would be something like
2F95ADFD-A15A-4636-B23D-084B06ABB756.html which is not so cool but it would work with the server.
Now iweb 2.0.1 would create ΚΑΛΩΣ_ΗΛΘΑΤΕ.html which it will not work on my server and i would think also in most servers. I am not sure what happens with .MAC
    3. problems with link menus and shadows and fonts
Not yet identified completely but completely different behaviour from 1.2.1 and surely a mess
So post your bugs and keep this post on top
I am in a big trouble because i have created some sites commercially and i cannot work
unfortunately i cannot also go back to iweb 1.2.1 so my destiny is in your hands apple people
I now that probably nobody is reading the forums but when this is complete will reach feedback and support.
Love to all of you troubled and unhappy for the moment iWeb users

If you post your findings we can make a big list and sent it to APPLEsomething like "UIUW" "United iWeb Users Worldwide". Instead of each one sending a separate feedback and clogging up their feedback pages and giving them a hard time.
You have it completely backwards. The way to get your message to Apple is via the feedback pages, not wasting everyone's time here in the technical support forum. The more people who send feedback, the better.
Now iweb 2.0.1 would create ΚΑΛΩΣ_ΗΛΘΑΤΕ.html which it will not work on my server and i would think also in most servers. I am not sure what happens with .MAC
.Mac and some other servers have no problems with this. Some people have reported that uploading with Cyberduck set to UTF-8 has helped them. See the paragraph on Accented Characters here:

  • Unexpected quit of iweb

i just installed iweb '08 and got the message listed below. When I click on update, the application quits without warning.
    Welcome to iWeb ’08!
To learn more about iWeb, read iWeb Getting Started and watch the online iWeb video tutorials.
This version of iWeb requires updates to your Domain file, which contains all of your website information.

Quit iWeb, delete the preference file Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist and drag the domain file from Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb into the trash.
Make sure that you have run the iWeb updates including the iLife Support update.
Restart your Mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.
When you relaunch iWeb it should offer to create a new domain file for you and you can start building your site.
If you want to keep your old domain file, create a new folder in your Home Folder and drag it out of the trash and into this folder.
Once you have got iWeb working, you could try launching your old domain file by going to the folder you created and double clicking the domain file.
Before doing this, make sure you save a backup of your new domain file to another folder in your Home folder as iWeb will overwrite this.
The last site that you launch in iWeb is the one whose data exists in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb.
For more information on handling multiple domain files go to....

  • IWeb not starting right

    Hey,
So I have been using iWeb successfully until today when I tried to edit the templates :S now my website has disappeared and everytime I open iWeb I get this message:
    Welcome to iWeb ’09!
This version of iWeb requires updates to your Domain file, which contains all of your website information.
When I input my domain file nothing happens can't add a new page or anything. What can I do to fix this?
Any help will be appreciated and I'm not very computer savvy so simplest explanation possible please?
    Thank you so much!

Have you tried going to your Home User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and opening your domain.sites file directly from there by double clicking it?
Try this, but remember to go to your Home User Library and not your System Library as iWeb is not stored there.

  • How do I publish to a folder? Help Menu doesn't say.

I have checked the iWeb Help menu, the "Welcome to iWeb" pages that I printed out, and the "iWeb 1.1 Help" that I printed out. No source answers the question that I have about publishing to a folder.
When I go to the iWeb File > Publish to a folder, I am told to write the URL of that folder. But, how do I get a folder with a URL? In the first place, I thought that publishing to a folder meant, a folder on my Desktop, away from the Internet, but if a URL is required, obviously I thought wrong.
    — Lorna in Southern California

    Hi Lorna,
All you have to do is to navigate to your desired folder in the file dialog window, like any other Mac application. You can even click on the "New Folder" button in the bottom of the window to create a new folder.
Don't worry about the URL text field. This field only needs to be filled out if you are going to be uploading your website to a 3rd party web host and is only important so that the RSS feeds and/or podcast URLs are generated correctly for 3rd party hosting purposes. You are going to be publishing your pages to .Mac, so all of this will be taken care of for you.
All you are using the "Publish to Folder" option for is to keep a local copy of your website so that you can preview it before putting it up on .Mac. Just select the folder where you want iWeb to save your website files and click OK. Again, just ignore the URL field.

  • Renamed Home page to "index," now my other pages' links to home won't work

I made a website on Iweb, bought a domain name from Hosting4less, and got an ftp client (cyberduck) to upload it. The Hosting4less support guy told me to rename my "home" page to "index" so that everything would actually show up once I'd uploaded it. This worked, and now, starting from home, I can go to any page. However, from the other pages, when I click back to the home link, I get this:
The requested URL /Home.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
I guess the renaming mixed up the other pages' links to the home page. How do I fix this? I don't know code, so I can't really go in and fix it that way. It seems like Iweb won't allow it either... help???

    Hi and welcome,
with iWeb you don't need to rename any page to "index" as publishing already creates a page called "index".
I guess you're publishing to a folder, the result of publishing is an index.html file and a folder named with the name you gave to the site in iWeb. You have to upload the folder and the index.html file.
Pages should never be renamed after you publish as that breaks the whole structure of the website (all the links that refer to this page).
Republish from iWeb and reupload (also don't name a page index in iWeb as that may conflict with iWeb already generating such files).
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • Deleting Corrupted Page

I created my Welcome page in IWeb and added a movie from Yahoo. Unfortunately, I think it may have corrupted the page. I want to delete the page and re-create it, but when I click on "Welcome" in IWeb, the program crashes. All other pages work properly. How can I delete this page?

Make a new site, File > New Site.
Drag all the pages from your old site to the new site.
Delete the original site with the bad page still in it.
    Hope that helps.

  • Mea culpa.. really messed something up this time...

Good day all. I was working through the document as to how to create your own iWeb template. Alas, at some point, I double clicked on an unmodified version of the Freestyle Welcome template. Of course, iWeb launched, and choked. Now I am no longer able to launch my original practice Blog, nor get past the iWeb complaint, nor even find my original practice Blog. Egads!
Any and all help ( I have already hit my head on the wall the requisite three times ) is welcome and appreciated.
    Al

I saved the practice 'site', however now I can no longer do anything - I get two messages,
    1) Welcome to iWeb '08... with the Update button highlighted. If clicked, I get the following:
2)"The document "Freestyle Welcome.webtemplate" cannot be saved " with OK.
I no longer have an Open file nor a New Page menu item available, thus even if I had backed up the practice sheets, I would not be able to move to a prior version.
So... how to reset the app or find my practice 'site' or some other assistance is still needed.
    Thanks

  • Two problems with iWeb welcome page

After some obvious struggling I was able to create a working welcome page with links to my homepages. I have two questions regarding the page:
    1. First, the page does not fit the full screen when seen in Safari. It seats too small in the middle of a white background.
    2. Second, more troubling, the page cannot be forwarded to my domain since the address:
///Volumes/frasecco8/Web/Sites/iWeb/Welcome%20page/Welcome.html, is not recognized by the domain.
What can I do about these two problems?
I feel I am very close to having a working website, with links, pictures, etc. but I am no quite there yet.
    Thanks for any suggestion, advice.
    Frank
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   PowerMac G4

    1) In iWeb, click on the inspector button (the blue cirle with an i) select the page tab. From there you can adjust the height and width of the page, as well as background colors. Keep in mind that screen sizes vary widely; try to choose a size that will work well on both smaller and larger screens.
    2) I presume you mean that you are publishing to .mac but have a purchased domain name and want to forward from your purchased domain name to your .mac site? In that case the problem is that you are using the wrong url for forwarding. Try entering http://web.mac.com/frasecco8.
If that doesn't work, then try:
    http://web.mac.com/frasecco8/iWeb/Welcome%20page/
    I hope this helps.

  • How can I stop the iWeb welcome movie from appearing

How can I stop the iWeb welcome movie from appearing every time iWeb starts up?
Oh yes and now that we are talking: when I plug in my ipod, I want iTunes to start, not iPhoto.
    Who knows these tricks?

iPhoto seems to be viewing the iPod as a camera.  Therefore go to iPhoto's General preference pane and select No application in the Connecting camera opens: menu.

  • Simple explanation of what is happening with iWeb and Mobile Me. Can anyone explain this simply and if our existing web site can be hosted elsewhere, if so can it still be updated using iWeb. Any advice very welcome

    We have a website that has run successfully using iWeb and Mobile me. We understand Mobile Me is being discontinued from June. From this forum it seems iWeb also is not being supported any more. So can the existing site be hosted successfully with another provider or is it best to start again. If so any advice on options would be very welcome;
    Thanks
    PB

For the most part if you just get a new webhost you can continue to run with iWeb. Since you are still running Tiger iWeb should work just fine for you. You will simply need to publish your website to a folder or with the built in FTP in iWeb. Apple has simply quit updating iWeb & there will come a day when iWeb quits working in the later OS's whatever kitty comes after Lion.

  • Adding Background music to welcome page on Iweb.. any ideas? instructions?

looking to add background music to my welcome page on iweb. any easy instructions? thanks daniel malibu

Take a look at my page "source" code for some clues.
Editing published pages is as easy as opening the "raw" html code in TextEdit (preferences set to "plain" text) and applying your edits (copy/paste simple).
But once you edit these pages any changes made by the iWeb application and a new "publish" would remove your hand edited code.
To change what appears in your "Title" would only require you edit that line of code. To add metatags is the same.
The "snippet" part of iWeb 2 is always in the "body" part of the page code. Title and custom icons are part of the "head" tag code. Javascript code could be in even more parts depending on its function.
None of this is for the faint of heart or for those that don't understand the basics of html page code.
Open your published iWeb 2 page with a text editor and edit the "title" tag code to change the displayed "name". To add a custom icon requires you upload a 16X16 image file (the size of the icon in the browser address bar), upload that file to your server and then use that URL in the edited html code for your page. These are part of the "head" tag code.
    Hope this helps.
