Welcome to the Lightroom 4 beta forum!

It's that time again!  Welcome to the beta forum.
You can read all about the new release at the Lightroom Team's blog, download the beta and then feel free to ask as many as questions (and report as many bugs!) as you like.  We're here to help.
Most importantly, enjoy it!

screenshot for reference. You might also see quite a few LR4 related posts on the LR3 forums. I guess the reason is the link in question.

  • Welcome to the Widget Browser Forum

    Hi,
    Thanks for visiting the Adobe Widget Browser forum.
    We hope you like the product so far!
    Post any questions or feedback you have here.
    As this forum begins, I just want to describe how the Widget Browser works so you can direct questions appropriately.
    The Widget Browser works by reading zip files and XML to generate the widget and it's editable properties.
    There are 3 parts to think of when looking at issues.
    --The Widget Browsr itself: The actual AIR app.
    --The zip and the OAM file. All the assets are delivered to the Widget Browser in a zip file. With this zip has an xml file (and the rest of the assets) that describes all the properties of the widget. We call this the OAM file (after Open Ajax Metadata, which is the spec we use to build the file.)
    --The widget itsetlf. The js, css and any assets needed to actual create the widget.
    Since widgets are free, usually with MIT or GPL licenses, and the OAM format is public, the person that wrote the OAM and packaged the file might not be the same person that wrote the actual widget.
    --If there is a problem with the WB itself, that is an Adobe issue.
    --If there is something wrong with how the properties in the Configuration Panel are working or assets are missing or incorrect, that is an issue with the OAM/zip file.
    --If something is not working correctly with the widget in the web browser, that could be an issue with the actual widget code. This might be the result of the Widget Browser generating bad code due to an error in the OAM or it just might be a bug in the widget itself.
    So now that we know a little bit about the behind-the-scenes, we can be more accurate when describing issues within the Widget Browser.
    And let me say a bit about the generated HTML code.
    Most widgets have js files, CSS files and maybe some image assets.
    When you Save Widget Files or insert the widget with Dreamweaver CS5, you will note perhaps a lot of CSS in the head of the document, depending on the widget.
    All the rules added to the <head> are rules that can be changed in the Configuration Panel. CSS rules are written to the <head> so that we don't edit the original CSS file that comes with the widget. The <head> rules are the rules for the specific instance of the widget and use the cascade to trump the external rules.
    This allows for multiple widgets on a page or site with differing styles.
    Once they are on the page, you can move/delete them as you like, following all the usual rules of order and cascade, like any other web page.
    Another note about code.
    These have been designed so when you Save Widget Files from the WB, it will write out a HTML copy of the widget with the dependent files in a folder next to it. Paths are written out document relative so it will work correctly.
    When inserting in Dreamweaver CS 5, the asset folders are added to the root of the site, no matter where you page is, and paths are written with site root relative paths so the assets will work from any location.
    We can generate a FAQ as we begin to get actual FAQs.
    Please provide feedback on the Widget Browser. We would love to know what you think.
    Thanks,
    Donald Booth

    I love Flash Catalyst!  I have always wondered why Adobe does not embed Spell check in any of their products to my knowledge ?  Also, I am building a site and I need to import word doc formatted text into the text box in Catalyst. Is their away to maintain the word formatting in Catalyst, if so, how? I am using a Mac. I would prefer not having to convert to text to a pic or vector format so the text can easily be updated in the future.
    Thanks

  • Re: iSetup and Oracle GRC. (Branch from thread: Welcome to the Oracle iSetup Forum)

    Hi Uma,
    Oracle iSetup, was untill last week unknown to me and it looks quit promising. But
    Oracle Configuration Controls Governor was mentioned in a sales presentation by Oracle GRC. I guess this is in line with Oracle iSetup, but it seems that Oracle Configuration Controls Governor is a bit more comprehensive. And as we read the 'Data Sheet' it seems to be quit appealing.
    We are currently looking at iSetup, which is 'standard' (with a patch) in EBS, but do you know if Oracle Configuration Controls Governor is already available? Or when would you expect it to be available? Because we would like to see how it works (and test it). And is that part of the special GRC suite, which has to be purchased separately?
    Hope you could help me with some information.
    Thanks in advance.
    Martin Blankendaal

    Hi Sreedar,
    As Anand mentioned in a previous post, we are in the process of finalizing a "Statement of Direction" that will articulate the differences between CCG and iSetup. We apologize for the delay in publishing this information.
    In short, iSetup would be the preferred tool for propogating configuration changes among instances, for several reasons: an extensive, supported offering of "solution sets" that span the application pillars, a robust tool and methodology that supports custom API's, solid reporting capabilities, and solid diagnostic capablities, and many more.
    CCG's strategic role going forward is to enhance Oracle's "Governance, Risk, and Compliance" offering. CCG's role would address the monitoring of many types of changes, including configuration data.
    There are many resouces to learn more about iSetup. You might start with Metalink, including note 395654.1, which links the the R12 iSetup User Guide and Release Content Document.
    Hope this helps. Please contact us if you require more information..

  • What happened to the Lightroom 5 Beta forum? Deleted, not archived or merged?

    What happened to the Lightroom 5 Beta forum? I understand that LR5.2 is now in full release, but it would be nice if the Beta forum was locked and archived for reference. It seems to have been completely deleted, along with some detailed feedback by myself and other Beta testers. (I can't find it if it is archived, anyway.) None of my many, many LR5Beta forum contributions are listed in my "Content" tab in my Adobe profile. All of the links to the LR5Beta discussion in which I contributed to (such as http://forums.adobe.com/message/5271729#5271729 ) lead me to this message:
    "Unauthorized
    It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake."

    Big thumbs up for Pete.Green and Daniel T! Thank you for this incredibly fast response! I worked very hard on explaining my "Advanced Adjustment Brush" proposal back in May 2013, and I am glad that it is again available for reference... in fact, even better, as it appears that the thread is now fully unlocked and availble to reply to. I still firmly believe this proposal is the way forward for Lightroom's local adjustment tools in the future.  I hope that the remainder of the LR5Beta forums will eventually be brought back for reference.

  • Welcome to the SQL Server Disaster Recovery and Availability Forum

    (Edited 8/14/2009 to correct links - Paul)
    Hello everyone and welcome to the SQL Server Disaster Recovery and Availability forum. The goal of this Forum is to offer a gathering place for SQL Server users to discuss:
    Using backup and restore
    Using DBCC, including interpreting output from CHECKDB and related commands
    Diagnosing and recovering from hardware issues
    Planning/executing a disaster recovery and/or high-availability strategy, including choosing technologies to use
    The forum will have Microsoft experts in all these areas and so we should be able to answer any question. Hopefully everyone on the forum will contribute not only questions, but opinions and answers as well. I’m looking forward to seeing this becoming a vibrant forum.
    This post has information to help you understand what questions to post here, and where to post questions about other technologies as well as some tips to help you find answers to your questions more quickly and how to ask a good question. See you in the group!

    What to post in this forum
    It seems obvious, but this forum is for discussion and questions around disaster recovery and availability using SQL Server. When you want to discuss something that is specific to those areas, this is the place to be. There are several other forums related to specific technologies you may be interested in, so if your question falls into one of these areas where there is a better batch of experts to answer your question, we’ll just move your post to that Forum so those experts can answer. Any alerts you set up will move with the post, so you’ll still get notification. Here are a few of the other forums that you might find interesting:
    SQL Server Setup & Upgrade – This is where to ask all your setup and upgrade related questions. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlsetupandupgrade/threads)
    Database Mirroring – This is the best place to ask Database Mirroring how-to questions. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqldatabasemirroring/threads)
    SQL Server Replication – If you’ve already decided to use Replication, check out this forum. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlreplication/threads)
    SQL Server Database Engine – Great forum for general information about engine issues such as performance, FTS, etc. (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqldatabaseengine/threads)
    How to find your answer faster
    There is a wealth of information already available to help you answer your questions. Finding an answer via a few quick searches is much quicker than posting a question and waiting for an answer. Here are some great places to start your research:
    SQL Server 2005 Books Onlinne
    Search it online at http://msdn2.microsoft.com
    Download the full version of the BOL from here
    Microsoft Support Knowledge Base:
    Search it online at http://support.microsoft.com
    Search the SQL Storage Engine PM Team Blog:
    The blog is located at https://blogs.msdn.com/sqlserverstorageengine/default.aspx
    Search other SQL Forums and Web Sites:
    MSN Search: http://www.bing.com/
    Or use your favorite search engine
    How to ask a good question
    Make sure to give all the pertinent information that people will need to answer your question. Questions like “I got an IO error, any ideas?” or “What’s the best technology for me to use?” will likely go unanswered, or at best just result in a request for more information. Here are some ideas of what to include:
    For the “I got an IO error, any ideas?” scenario:
    The exact error message. (The SQL Errorlog and Windows Event Logs can be a rich source of information. See the section on error logs below.)
    What were you doing when you got the error message?
    When did this start happening?
    Any troubleshooting you’ve already done. (e.g. “I’ve already checked all the firmware and it’s up-to-date” or "I've run SQLIOStress and everything looks OK" or "I ran DBCC CHECKDB and the output is <blah>")
    Any unusual occurrences before the error occurred (e.g. someone tripped the power switch, a disk in a RAID5 array died)
    If relevant, the output from ‘DBCC CHECKDB (yourdbname) WITH ALL_ERRORMSGS, NO_INFOMSGS’
    The SQL Server version and service pack level
    For the “What’s the best technology for me to use?” scenario:
    What exactly are you trying to do? Enable local hardware redundancy? Geo-clustering? Instance-level failover? Minimize downtime during recovery from IO errors with a single-system?
    What are the SLAs (Service Level Agreements) you must meet? (e.g. an uptime percentage requirement, a minimum data-loss in the event of a disaster requirement, a maximum downtime in the event of a disaster requirement)
    What hardware restrictions do you have? (e.g. “I’m limited to a single system” or “I have several worldwide mirror sites but the size of the pipe between them is limited to X Mbps”)
    What kind of workload does you application have? (or is it a mixture of applications consolidated on a single server, each with different SLAs) How much transaction log volume is generated?
    What kind of regular maintenance does your workload demand that you perform (e.g. “the update pattern of my main table is such that fragmentation increases in the clustered index, slowing down the most common queries so there’s a need to perform some fragmentation removal regularly”)
    Finding the Logs
    You will often find more information about an error by looking in the Error and Event logs. There are two sets of logs that are interesting:
    SQL Error Log: default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.#\MSSQL\LOG (Note: The # changes depending on the ID number for the installed Instance. This is 1 for the first installation of SQL Server, but if you have mulitple instances, you will need to determine the ID number you’re working with. See the BOL for more information about Instance ID numbers.)
    Windows Event Log: Go to the Event Viewer in the Administrative Tools section of the Start Menu. The System event log will show details of IO subsystem problems. The Application event log will show details of SQL Server problems.

    hi,I have a question on sql database high availability. I have tried using database mirroring, where I am using sql standard edition, in this database mirroring of synchronous mode is the only option available, and it is giving problem, like sql time out errors on my applicatons since i had put in the database mirroring, as asynchronous is only available on enterprise version, is there any suggestions on this. thanks ---vijay

    Hi,
    Thanks for the input, but I'm still not sure I've 'got it' at the moment. What I have now which works but seems extremely crude is:
    BEGIN
      UPDATE apex_collections
         SET c003 = 'N', c004 = 'N'
       WHERE collection_name = :P470_COLLECTION_NAME;
      FOR i IN 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F03.COUNT LOOP
        APEX_COLLECTION.UPDATE_MEMBER_ATTRIBUTE(
                         p_collection_name => :P470_COLLECTION_NAME
                       , p_seq => TO_NUMBER(APEX_APPLICATION.G_F03(i))
                       , p_attr_number => 3
                       , p_attr_value => 'Y');
      END LOOP;
      FOR i IN 1..APEX_APPLICATION.G_F04.COUNT LOOP
        APEX_COLLECTION.UPDATE_MEMBER_ATTRIBUTE(
                         p_collection_name => :P470_COLLECTION_NAME
                       , p_seq => TO_NUMBER(APEX_APPLICATION.G_F04(i))
                       , p_attr_number => 4
                       , p_attr_value => 'Y');
      END LOOP;
    END;Now this works... but it just seems so horribly inefficient and I still think there is a better way that I haven't cottoned onto yet. I guess I was hoping I could do the following:
    BEGIN
      UPDATE (SELECT c003 as c003
                   , CASE
                       WHEN APEX_APPLICATION.G_F03.EXISTS(seq_id) THEN 'Y'
                       ELSE 'N'
                     END as new_c003
                FROM apex_collections
               WHERE collection_name = :P470_COLLECTION_NAME) ac
         SET c003 = new_c003
       WHERE c003 != new_c003;
    END;But this gives me:
    ORA-06550: line 4, column 48: PL/SQL:
    ORA-01747: invalid user.table.column, table.column, or column specification
    ORA-06550: line 2, column 3: PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignoredI'd be grateful for any other ideas on check boxes...
    Best regards,
    Gareth.

    Welcome to the National Instruments NI VeriStand discussion forum. This group is intended to provide a discussion forum for developers and engineers
    using National Instruments NI VeriStand. Through the ni.com support site, this forum and other online tools, you have the opportunity to obtain
    information and examples about NI VeriStand and to ask question to help you in creating Real-Time test applications using NI VeriStand.
    In addition to answering current questions it provides a mechanism for recording this information and allowing new developers to browse the history
    of the group for information that has already been discussed.
    While this is not a direct support channel administrated by the NI Applications Engineering group, it gives you the tools to help and support each other (with some assistance from NI Applications Engineers if needed). You may also use this forum to provide feedback and information to NI about the needs for support and for new features.

    Hello Ravens Fan,
    I would definitely encourage you and others interested to check out ni.com/veristand which has some more detailed explanation, as this software does many things that are difficult to cover in a short post.
    NI VeriStand is a software which helps users to configure and run a Real-Time test application.  This includes Hardware-in-the-Loop testing and model based control in a more configuration based environment than if you were to program this directly, in LabVIEW for instance.  It has many built in features to control timing, data communication, setup your Real-Time target configuration and more.  It is a standalone application, but has many ways to be customized to extend the software capabilities.
    The Getting Started with NI VeriStand page has some demonstration videos which are a great way to get some more insight into this product.
    I hope this helps, feel free to try it out as that really is the best way to better understand the software.
    Regards,
    Angela M
