Welcome to the new FrameMaker scripting forum

As FM10 now has built-in scripting via ExtendScript, this sub-forum was set up as a venue for discussions related to the ins and out of using ExtendScript.
As well, questions on FrameScript and FDK programming are welcome here.
If you missed the kick-off webinar on May 26th by Rick Quatro on FM10 & Extendscript, the slides and sample scripts are available on Rick's blog here:

  • Welcome to the New NI Discussion Forums!

We are excited to present the NEW and IMPROVED NI Discussion Forums to you, our valued community members!
The community not only had a face-lift, it now offers a full set of advanced personalization features and it is available in seven languages!
Here are some tips to help you get around the new system:
What do the boxes next to the user names mean?
This is the new user ranking system. The three boxes represent the user’s score in the three performance metrics: ratings, posts, and logins. The darker the box is shaded, the higher the user has scored in that performance metric.
The box on the left is the average message rating the user has received.
The box in the center is the total number of posts the user has contributed to the community.
The box on the right is the number of times the user has logged into the community.
The blue boxes designate the user is an NI Employee while the gold boxes are reserved for NI Partners and customers.
How do I find a thread from the old system in the new system?
If you have the title of the thread, we recommend searching for it using the search bar at the top or bottom of the page.
If you do not have the title of thread or cannot find it with search, but you know that you posted to the thread, we recommend that you login and click on your Alias at the top of the page to view your profile. From your profile page, click on the Find All Posts by this User link and scroll through the results to find the thread.
If you do not have the title of the thread and you didn’t post to it, but you know the Alias of someone else who did post to the thread, conduct a User search to find that user. Click on their Alias to view their profile page and then use the Find All Posts by this User link to find the thread.
If you do not have the title of the thread and you don’t know the Alias of any user who posted to it, we recommend browsing the board that you believe it would be in until you find it.
How do I personalize the forums?
Once you login, click on the My Profile link at the top of the page. From the tabs on this page, you can modify your time zone, ratings preference, font size, emoticon style, etc to personalize your experience. As long as you remember to Save Changes before you leave the tabs, your forum will be personalized for you each time you login.
    What languages are supported?
The user interface is translated into the following languages:
    Chinese (Simplified)
    Chinese (Traditional)
    English
    French
    Korean
    Japanese
    Spanish
Note: The language in the My Preferences tab in the forums only controls the language for that session. As soon as you logout and login again, your language will be reset to the language that you have configured in your NI User Profile. To modify the language configured in your NI User Profile, visit www.ni.com/profile.

    What does Float mean?
You can choose to pin boards or threads to the top of the lists so that when you are logged in they are the first things you see. To do this, click on the up arrow to the right of the board or message you want to Float to the top of your lists. When you no longer want this message or board at the top of your lists, you can click the arrow again to UnFloat the board or message.
Why are there smiley faces in the sample code pieces?
There are times when the pieces of code include the same characters that are used to create an emoticon in the forums. To disable emoticons so that you can see the code correctly, follow these steps:
Sign In or Register to the forums if you are not already logged in
Click My Profile in the User Bar at the top of the page
Click My Preferences to view the My Preferences tab
Change the Emoticon Type to None in the My Preferences tab in your Profile
    Click Save Changes
Now when you browse to the thread, the code should be displayed correctly.
Emoticons will no longer be displayed in any messages you view in the forums until you change the Emoticon Type back to one of the other types.
If you have additional questions or feedback about the upgrade, refer to the Help or post to the Feedback on NI Discussion Forums board.

    Just a couple of comments:
    1. In the CVI forum, I couldn't post a message which included the C #include syntax with angle brackets. It interpreted the angle brakcets as HTML, gave me an HTML syntax error, and deleted the angle brackets as well as the .h file they enclosed. There may be a way in HTML to escape the angle brakcets so they can be included as text rather than interpreted as HTML, but I shouldn't have to do that in a C forum.
    2. When I got the HTML error message above, it also deleted the file I had attached so when I posted the message, there was no attachment.
    3. I don't get automatic hyperlinks in any posts I read or create. The text of the URL is there, but I can't just click to link to the new page. Am I missing some option?
    4. Older but updated messages don't come to the top. I like to see new activity even if I'm not subscribed to that thread.
    5. When reviewing the list of messages in the forums, I'd like to see the ratings of the author and of the reply (even before opening the message). In the old forums, the messages where tagged "Answered by Enthusiast" and/or "High rating".
    6. I'd like to see the buttons to rate an answer even if I'm not logged. If I try to rate an answer when I'm not logged on, it could prompt me to log on first. If the rating buttons are only available if you're logged on, I think the number of ratings will be drastically reduced.
    7. I miss the list of top contributors (formerly known as Enthusiasts). I think it was a good way to foster community and to get to know active members. It also generated some friendly competition to see who had more posts and who had higher ratings.
    8. I liked the old organization with two sections to show the newest answered questions separate from the newest unanswered questions.
    9. Some of the new search options are good additions. I'd like to combine the user search and the message search. For example, I might like to search for any message from Bilal on DLLs.
    10. I had to make this a Top 10 list. I'm impressed by the amount of work that went into the new forums. Keep it up!

  • FrameMaker Scripting forum?

I was hoping to start a discussion on the new FrameMaker Scripting board, but found I could neither start a new discussion nor reply to an existing one.
Is it locked for some reason? Would it be inappropriate to ask for input here? Is anyone aware of other forums where ExtendScript for FrameMaker is being discussed?

Sorry, but the nice (@$!%^*!!!!*@^!) Jive Software is misbehaving. It seems like only some accounts can start a discussion. I've paged the Adobe-admin and hopefully this will be cleared up shortly.

I'm not sure that it is actually possible to parameterize the DYNR. Anyway, it would still leave you the problem that the field descriptors in the command interface would all be wrong.
My suggestion for getting around this is to make several recordings using the SAPGUI command, creating a new command for each screen change. You can then edit the script so that the different cases between which you want to differentiate are separated by IF...ELSEIF...ENDIF  commands.
You might then have something that looks like this (pseudocode):
    * SAPGUI command for common "opening part" of transaction
    IF (subtype = 'LA').
    *SAPGUI covering screen 2001
    ELSEIF (subtype = 'LW').
    * SAGPGUI covering screen 2000
    ENDIF.
    * SAPGUI for common "closing part" of transaction - if relevant.

  • Welcome to the new Oracle User Group Community

Welcome to the new Oracle User Group Community. Whether you landed here via the redirect from the previous community site - IOUC.org - or navigated here directly, welcome. This new platform brings new community features to enhance the way you connect with user group peers and with Oracle, as well as make it easier for you to find information through a more intuitive interface. We invite you to provide your feedback on the new site. Log in using your OTN Forum credentials and join the discussion here. If you do not yet have OTN Forum log in credentials, navigate to http://community.oracle.com/community, click on the "Register" link in the upper right corner of the page and create your account.
We look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Kashif,
Glad you like the new Community. Communication among user group leaders works a little differently on this site than on the previous site. Rather than having communication focus around e-mail distribution lists, communication now is focused within the site itself. The intent is that this will provide users the one place to come for information, rather than having to sort through lots of e-mail threads. That doesn't mean that e-mail is completely out of the picture though. Users can opt-in to receive e-mail notifications when an individual piece of content is changed, or when content is posted to a space. Look for the "Receive email notifications" link under "Actions" to start receiving notices. To stop receiving notices, go back to the same content/space and click "Stop email notifications".
Your Relationship Manager will be talking with you and the other leaders in your region over the next few days and weeks regarding how you and your group of leaders want to communicate.
    Best regards,
    Oracle User Group Team

  • Anyone tried the new Weblogic Scripting Tool (WLST)?

Has anyone tried using the new WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) that was recently
posted on the dev2dev WebLogic Utilities site: http://dev2dev.bea.com/resourcelibrary/utilitiestools/adminmgmt.jsp
It looks to be a handy tool that is built upon jython and enables you to easily
navigate, inspect and manipulate the WebLogic MBean tree on a running server.
It also has a nice scripting tool which allows you to convert a config.xml file
into a script that can be run to recreate a domain or specific resources within
the domain. This is exactly something I have been looking for because we occasionally
recreate domains or subsets of a domain for testing and POC purposes.
The utility is fairly well documented and works well for the most part. The only
issue I have run into so far is that is does not seem to understand JMS Distributed
Destinations. When I try to convert a config.xml that contains a DD to a script
it throws a null pointer exception. I have not tried a cluster yet.
I noticed the utility was authored by someone at BEA. Is there potential that
BEA will support this in the future if it catches on? Has anyone had experience
with WLST or jython that would cause you to reccomend (or not) using it?
    Thanks.

    Darryl,
Thanks for the valuable feedback. My comments are inline.
    Darryl Stoflet wrote:
As a fairly long time wlshell user who recently started testing wlst there are
few features I have found lacking in wlst.
    1. For monitoring purposes I am frequently using the -g and -r options to wlshell's
get command for graphing and repeating respectivelyI haven't looked at -g and -r options in wlshell, but will do so.
Although there is no graphical monitoring of attributes in wlst, but
there is certainly some monitoring capability (which will be enhanced
further in the coming version). Please take a look at the
    monitorAttribute() function.
    wls:/(offline)> help('monitorAttribute')
    Description:
Monitors the specified attribute every by polling every interval.
    Syntax:
    monitorAttribute(attributeName, interval, monitorFile)
attributeName = Name of the attribue that you would like to monitor.
interval = Time (in seconds) to wait before the next fetch
monitorFile=[optional] File path where the monitored data will be
    written to.
    Example:
    wls:/mydomain/runtime/ServerRuntimes/myserver/ExecuteQueueRuntimes/weblogic.kernel.Default>
    monitorAttribute("ServicedRequestTotalCount",10)
    Press Return to quit monitoring
    Monitoring started for attribute ServicedRequestTotalCount
    wls:/(offline)>
    >
    2. wlshell 2.0 adds the option when connecting to the admin server to also connect
to all managed servers in that domain. This is a nice feature for monitoring because
you then have access to all the runtime mbeans in each managed serverYes, this indeed seems to be a very nice feature. We will consider this
    for our next release.
    >
    3. There is not a good way to pass cmd line options(variables) to wlst. In wlshell
I can send cmd line options via -v. I have tried something similar with wlst using
-loadProperties but this is a little laborious because I do not necessarily want
to create a properties file when a passing in only one or two variables. Also
I find loadProperties lacking somewhat (see 4 below)ok, I just realised that there is indeed a bug in wlst where the command
line arguments are not being honored. In Jython one can access the
command line arguments from the sys.argv variable. For example,
    java weblogic.WLST -i foo.py var1 var2 var3
Initializing WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) ...
Welcome to Weblogic Server Administration Scripting Shell
Type help() for help on available commands
    wls:/offline> print sys.argv
    ['foo.py', 'var1', 'var2', 'var3']
    wls:/offline>
But this isn't working properly, please keep using the loadProperties
    untill this has been fixed.
    >
    4) loadProperties treats all created variables as strings. While this is understandable
from the perspective that getProperty returns a string, it would be nice if wlst
was smart enough that when a property is numbers only its an int, otherwise a
    string etc.
wlshell does this logic/conversion for you which really simplifies calling methods
that expect the particular datatype. To get around this problem you can create a script file say,
    variables.py which would look like,
    # variables that will be used
    theInterpreter.set('var1',10)
    theInterpreter.set('var2','i am a string')
    java weblogic.WLST variables.py
Initializing WebLogic Scripting Tool (WLST) ...
Welcome to Weblogic Server Administration Scripting Shell
Type help() for help on available commands
    wls:/(offline)> print var1
    10
    wls:/(offline)> print var2
    'i am a string'
    >
    5. I'd like to be able to send cmd output etc to a file while running within wlst.
In wlshell its a simple as adding >> filename to the end of the command. In wlst it is not as simple as doing >>, it is more than that. You can
choose any output stream to direct your output to. In your case you can
create a FileOutputStream and route the output to this stream for any
    particular command.
    Example,
    # create a file output stream say fos
    from java.io import FileOutputStream
    fos = FileOutputStream("output.txt")
    # save the default output stream to a variable to
    # switch it back
    sys.stdout=fos
    # Now all output for any function will go to output.txt
    ls()
    cd('foo')
    # after done with your functions switch it back
    sys.stdout=origOutput
This is the right Jython way to do it. This works for all output streams
, very useful when you embed an interpreter in a servlet and would like
to display the output via a PrintStream etc.
    >
    >
All in all wlst is a nice tool. Personally if the above features were added it
would be much easier to transistion to wlst for good.
Also I really like the wlst offline tool. Its nice to be able to do the whole
create and configure domain process with one tool. Will this be supported. Yes indeed. We are working on merging both the tools into one.
    I do
not want to rely on it too much if it will not work in future weblogic versions. It will be supported in future release of weblogic.

    CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE
    1. CTRL E has never worked and I have always edited my site via a link that my web designer has given me ,I don't get an error message just nothing happens,  any ideas?
    2. When I go through the link given to me by my web designer to edit the site the site appears but everything is smaller, font boxes etc, and not the correct size, I can edit ,however when I then exit editing and  check to see if my site has changed nothing has .
Viewing the site outside of incontext editing all is normal, correct size etc , it is only when I'm in editing that the site appears different and not right. This is a recent problem and all  ( apart from CTRL E )  has been fine.
