"Welcome to your new phone" after every restart o...

Everytime I shut down my N79 and start it again, I get this "Welcome to your new phone"-screen, asking if I would like to know about it's new features. Is it normal that this keeps coming up every time?

Solved! It seems that I had to just walk through the wizard one time (formerly I just cancelled it ).
It doesn't pop up anymore.

Every time I plug in the new phone the "Welcome to your new phone" screen comes up instead of just going to the home page. Kind of annoying since it is already setup and running. Any idea on how to fix this?

  • "Welcome to your new iPhone" - every sync

This is a response to an old post on another discussion, but that discussion has now been archived and no longer permits replies.
    Issue in old post was:
*I just had my phone swapped out at an Apple store for a replacement.*
*Everthing backed up to the new phone OK but every time I plug in my phone, in iTunes, I get the "Welcome to your new iPhone" window with the "Continue" button. When I click it, it takes me to the normal iTunes window looking at the settings for my phone. It does this every time I plug in phone.*
I had the same issue with my replacement iPhone. Solution (for me anyway) is to quit iTunes with the iPhone connected, and then reopen iTunes. The same 'Welcome to your new iPhone' screen appears, however with two extra buttons 'Never Register' and 'Register Later'. Clicking on 'Never Register' solves the issue and the 'Welcome' screen no longer appears repeatedly.
Hope that helps anybody searching for a solution to this problem.

happened with me and was resolved automatically after re-connecting it 10-15 times..
when clicked on continue takes you to the registration page where you need to fill the details and it gets registered.
and the new iphone startup page doesn't show up anymore...

  • "Welcome to your new iPhone" screen for activated phone

Today I had to exchange my iPhone 3G for the second time. That isn't a gripe, I'm thrilled Apple has been so responsive and flexible in working with me. (The issue had to do with a short in the headphone jack that would cause the unit to begin to play music when headphones were plugged in and sometimes unplugged, even on a locked/sleeping phone. Apple swapped them out no problem. I love these guys!)
I'm on my third phone. However, every time I plug in my phone, in iTunes, I get the "Welcome to your new iPhone" window with the "Continue" button. When I click it, it takes me to the normal iTunes window looking at the settings for my phone. But the thing is, it does this every time I plug in phone.
Any ideas? Some kind of cache or pref to clear/reset?
Another odd thing. The Genius said that the OS on the phone he was giving me was a newer build than on the phone I had turned in. But when I look at the build number and the build number of the one you can download they are the same. Was there a different build preinstalled on some 3Gs than on others or what was downloaded via iTunes for a restore?

For whatever weird reason, updating iTunes to 7.7.1 did the trick. It must have been some pref or cache thing that was overwritten with the update. While the question wasn't answered I guess it is fixed.
I'd still be curious to know about that build version difference the Genius mentioned.

  • HT1766 getting a welcome to your new iphone message when I try to back up an old phone

    Hi,
My iPhone stopped working earlier this year and I got it replaced with a new one at the Apple store. I haven't backed it up since. So, I'm trying to back up from my iTunes now and it gives me two options: 1) Set up as new iPhone, and 2) Restore from this backup (MY NAME iPhone). The second option says last backed up 2/20/12. Thing is, I don't remember ever backing up this iPhone. More importantly, I've taken many pictures and added many phone numbers since 2/20/12 and am afraid restoring will erase this.
I've never been a savvy iPhone user so hopefully someone can help advise me on how best to proceed.

I have a very similar problem. I have an iPhone 4 running an old iOS 4.2.1. I very recently upgraded to iTunes 11. I am not sure which version of iTunes I was running before, but it probably was not the most recent. I did not sync or do a backup, before upgrading to iTunes 11. After upgrading to iTunes 11, when I plug in my iPhone 4, I get a "Welcome to your New iPhone" screen. I only am presented with two options. 1.) Set up as new iPhone, or 2.) Restore from this backup: Unknown. Last Backed Up: 12/31/2000 7:00PM. There is a radio button to choose either option, and a Continue button. I am afraid to choose either option, because I'm afraid it will wipe my iPhone 4 clean.
It's odd because I don't think they even made iPhones in 2000. So, I'm not sure where this unknown backup from December 2000 is coming form. Also, I am pretty sure I did not sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes, nor did I do a back up of my iPhone in iTunes, before upgrading to iTunes 11.
Now, there is not too much on my iPhone 4 I'm concerned about saving. I did manage to pull off all the photos using Windows Vista Autoplay. But, there are quite a few contacts on my iPhone that I would like to save. And I have some newer Apps that I would like to save.... these apps were free, but some of them are no longer available in the App Store.
Some other info.... after updgrading to iTunes 11, iTunes does show 50 Apps in the library. These appear to be apps from some much earlier sync prior to upgrading to iTunes 11.
My problem is I sync very rarely.... I also update my iOS very rarely.... and I also update the iTunes software very rarely. I got to a point where some newer apps I wanted would only run on a newer iOS. But it seems I got to a point where I could also no longer update my iOS without updating the iTunes version. So, my plan was to update to iTunes 11 (which I did), then update my iPhone iOS (which I haven't been able to accomplish yet), because I want to sync my iPhone with the new iTunes 11, to be able to get off my contacts and newer apps. But I can't to that because iTunes 11 will only show me the "Welome to Your New iPhone" screen.
Again, I'd like to get my contacts and newer apps off the phone into iTunes. If I then have to wipe the iPhone clean and restore, that would be OK.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Which carrier are you on?

  • ITunes will not go past "Welcome to Your New iPhone" screen after multiple attempts of restoring old data of iPhone 5s.

    Hello,
I'm really sorry if this is posted in the wrong place...
So just yesterday, I decided to update my iPhone 5s to the new iOS, 8.1.1 but I did not have any room on my phone due to most of the storage being taken up by "other". I backed up my phone onto iTunes and proceeded to restore the phone to its factory settings. Aftewards, the new iOS was presumably loaded onto my phone through iTunes. When my phone restarted, I clicked "Restore from this backup" and continued. It reloads again and I open my phone and went through the settings. When I got back to what I normally saw, all of the apps but one were gone. My backgrounds, contacts, and photos were there, but my music was gone. I looked back onto iTunes and the "Welcome to Your New iPhone" screen was there again. I restored it to my back up once again, but to no avail. I can't get past the Welcome screen. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm afraid that if I restore again I'll lose the apps I reloaded onto my phone once again.

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

  • ITunes saying 'Welcome to your new iPhone'.

I plug my 3 year old Iphone4 into my Mac's Itunes, and it says, 'Welcome to your new Iphone'.
I am given two options; 1] Set up as a new iphone, or 2] Restore from this back up.
I should add, on Saturday 22nd Feb to install the latest update the phone had to be restored to its factory settings but Itunes said I would be able to regain all my data from a backup. So I faced this same situation on Saturday after installing the latest software. The backup only returned my contacts, but not my apps, photos, notes etc. So over the past 2 days I have been adding all my apps again. The last backup option on the itunes is from Saturday.. which will mean I'll lose all my data again.
Any advice on how to back up what I've got right now?
And how to make Itunes realise my phone is not new, and I do not want to restore it, or return it to the previous backup?

Since owning my iPhone I’ve had this happen to me a couple of times now, I plug in my iPhone to do a sync and recharge and get a message telling me “An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer” and gives me the options of setting it up as a new phone, or restoring from a previous back up. Neither of these options describe what I want, as I don’t have it back up on every sync I would lose too much data, and I certainly don’t want to start fresh.
As it turns out, this screen is very misleading and not as threatening as it may appear. Selecting the option to set it up as a new phone does NOT revert your phone back to its starting point as the message may imply. The only change that is made is you will be prompted to rename the phone, after that your phone will sync and all of your settings and data will be preserved.

  • Welcome to your new iPhone...but I've already set it up, now what ?

    Hi,
I bought my iPhone 5 two days ago and set it up, registered it and loaded some apps, set up my email accounts, etc. all from the phone. Now I went to plug it in to iTunes (11) to back it up and load some pictures, tones, etc. however as soon as I plug it in iTunes shows "Welcome to your new iPhone, would you like to set up this iPHone as a new iPhone or restore all of your information from a previous backup?". I don't want to do either. If I select "Set up as new iPhone" won't it wipe out everything I've already set up and installed ? Is there away around this ?
    Thanks

    1. Plug your Iphone into your computers. Click ok on the message and let iTunessync
    2. Once sync is complete, right click on your phone (it is on the left side of itunes)
    3. Once you right click, select "reset warnings". Unplug it and replug to see if it still happens.
I found the solution above on another post forum and it worked for me, but only after I tinked with a few settings. Warning: What I descibe below may only be a solution for those of us who use the icloud backup feature.
I knew the data on my iphone 4 and on icloud was up to date so I went into the iTures preferences/devices and I deleted all of the old backups. With that I restarted iTunes and got a slightly different "Welcome to your new iphone" page. This welcome page only had a "continue" button as an option. After continuing I was given the summary page and was able to sync the phone. After syncing I "reset warnings". Ejected/unpluged then pluged back in and was back in business. No more welcome page.

  • I restored from iTunes backup but it goes back to 'welcome to your new iphone'

My iphone 5 was replaced today because of a faulty power button. I had done an iTunes backup this morning, choosing to backup iTunes purchases and the apps as well.
In order to restore the backup to my new phone I had to set it up as a new phone and update to 7.1.2. All good so far.
I then chose to restore from backup (dated today) and it all seemed fine until the restore was complete and the iphone restarted and I was taken back to the 'Welcome to Your New iPhone' screen. Thankfully my photos and contacts have come across but none of my iTunes library, emails or most of my apps. What I'd really like to retrieve are the notes I had in Notemaster...lots of important details about trip bookings, finances etc.
I suspect an incomplete/corrupt backup was made this morning as I think I'd used about 47gb on my phone and the backup file in my application support folder is 11.8gb (although I don't imagine that folder would include all the video & music from my iTunes library??). I thought I could go back to the backup I made in June but it looks like it was overwritten by the new backup I made today...is that right?
Can anyone please suggest a fix or am I going to have to set it up as a new phone in order to get past the 'welcome to your new iphone' screen. First I'd somehow have to back up all my photos and contacts or I'll probably lose them.
Actually, I've just downloaded iBackupBot and I can see all my notes in the backup I made this morning so they do still exist even though the app didn't download in the restore, in fact it looks like a lot of my user app files are there. What do I do now? My head hurts h e l p . . . p l e a s e

I don't think that you need to restore from the backup again. If you see nothing at all in the App Store. Try closing the app completely, reset your iPad and them try again.
In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Same bugs occuring after every restart

I'm using webOS 2.1.2 on an HP Veer 4G.  Every time I restart the phone, the following bugs happen:
    1) The Voice Dial shortcut that I put on the taskbar (wave) has been removed; also, the Voice Dial shortcut that I had moved to a custom location in the Applications panel is lost and the icon is moved to the last spot.  Every time, I have to move it back to where I want it in the Applications panel and then re-add it to the taskbar (wave) area.
    2) Even though I've already gone through the entire tutorial in hopes that it would never bother me again, a Gestures Tutorial notification comes up every single time the phone starts up.  I would just like to delete this application, if possible, but I don't see a way to do it like I can with custom apps.
Has anyone else experienced these or similar issues after a restart and know of any solutions or work-arounds?  Also, is there an official place that I can report bugs to Palm/HP?  Thanks!

    Thetreoguy:
Thanks for the reply!  I'll look forward to an update for the Voice Dial app soon.
Regarding the Gesture Tutorial, you are correct that it did not finish the first time I used it.  The tutorial actually locked up on me and I had to shut it down.  I've followed it through to completion a couple of times since then, but it still pops up after every restart.
What exactly will happen if I go to Reset Options and Erase apps and data?  Will it erase my personal data that I've spent a long time adding, or just the default apps?  Once it erases the apps, how do I get them back (with the exception of the Gesture Tutorial, of course)?  If it erases all my personal data too, is there a way to back them up and copy them back to the phone and still preserve all contact information and the link to the contact photos I've added?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • How to get past the Welcome to Your New iPhone Screen?

I recently locked myself out of my iPhone 4S. I decided to backup the phone and try to restore it in order to bypass the lock screen. Now that the iPhone has been wiped, I'm stuck at the Welcome to your new iPhone screen. I have the option to set up as a new iPhone, and restore from backup. After choosing restore from backup, it restores my phone, but the welcome to your new iPhone screen shows up again no matter what I do. Closing iTunes and turning the phone on and off has no results. I currently cannot add new apps, music, movies, anything....via iTunes. Help?

I also had this problem. Read these instructions CAREFULLY before taking action, or everything will be ruined. To get past this screen, select Set Up New iPhone.  After that, it will bring you to the iTunes store screen. At the top of the screen there will be a loading bar. At the end of the bar, there should be an x for cancel. Press it, and it will stop iTunes from deleting all of your data. It will no longer bring you back to the welcome screen once you have done this.

  • How to get your contacts to your new phone

These days, most of us live ane die by our mobile phones - our personal and business lives revolve around them; and yet technology moves so fast that our phones become outdated and are replaced so quickly. Luckily, the days when buying a new phone means that you have to laboriously re-enter all of your precious contact numbers are long gone.
There are a number of different ways that you can transfer contacts between your old and your new phone, including:
    1. SIM CARD
The original and simplest way to port your contacts is via the SIM card. This system sells itself on the ease of use and the fact that it guarantees universal compatibility, but this simplicity also brings with it the inflexibility - the SIM card can hold just one name and one number per contact, and a typical limit the number of contacts it 250, so it is rapidly ending its tenure as a medium for the storage and transfer of contact information.
    Advantages: Ultimate cross-device compatibility
    Disadvantages: Limited capacity
    2. BUSINESS CARDS VIA BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth connectivity allows data to be relayed between two phones within a range of about ten metres. All Bluetooth-enabled phones can send and receive contacts as vCard files, which allows you to transfer a complete contact to another phone with ease. Using the "Mark/Unmark" feature of your Nokia device, you can also send a batch of contacts at once - the phone still makes a separate transfer per contact, but provided the two devices are paired and set to automatically accept transmissions from each other, you can set things in motion and put the kettle on whilst the phones do most of the hard work - it's as easy as Options>Send business card>Via Bluetooth. The down side is that the vCards go into the Received Files folder of an S40 phone or the Messaging inbox of a Symbian smartphone, you will need to individually save each contact transferred to your address book, so it still isn't an ideal solution for large numbers of contacts.
Advantages: Quick and easy, wide compatibility, all contact information can be transferred
Disadvantages: Still laborious in the case of large numbers of contacts, bulk sending may not work correctly from a different brand of phone.
    3. DEVICE-TO-DEVICE SYNC
Many Nokia phones have a Synchronisation or Switch feature which allows you to transfer personal data such as contacts between compatible devices. This is an effective method to transfer data, but unfortunately different versions used in different phones (depending on age and OS) mean that even two different Nokia devices might not be compatible for this method.
Advantages: Easy to use and almost entirely automatic
Disadvantages: Not a reliable cross-platform method
    4. SERVER SYNCHRONISATION
A growing feature of the mobile internet is the ability to transfer your phone's personal data with a remote server, which is not necessarily the ideal way to transfer between devices but gives the added functionality that you can recover your data wherever you are in the world as long as you have internet access through your phone, so if you lose your data (or even your entire phone) on a business trip abroad, you don't have to wait to get home to recover it. An example of a server synchronisation service can be found at www.ovi.com
Avantages: Remote storage of data means you can use anywhere
Disadvantages: System still in its infancy for personal consumers
    5. PC SYNCHRONISATION
Using Nokia PC Suite, N-Series PC Sutie or Ovi Suite you can synchronise your PIM (Personal Information Management) data with your PC (Outlook, Outlook Express, Vista Contacts, Lotus Notes etc.), allowing it to be subsequently transferred to another Nokia device. For Mac users, there is Apple's iSync software which does the same thing, though whilst it makes transfer between different brands of phone possible it does not guarantee compatibility with all phones from any manufacturer.
Advantages: Any PC-connectivity-enabled Nokia phone is compatibile (PC only), cross-brand support (Mac only)
Disadvantages: Synchronisation software not always reliable
    6. CONTENT COPIER
Using Nokia Content Copier from any of the three PC Suites mentioned above, you can copy all or a selection of personal data from your phone into a backup file that can be restored to your phone after a repair or update, or transferred to another compatible phone. This gives ultimate protection as almost all of your phone contents can be saved, but the big downside is that this method is no use to you if you are coming to Nokia from another brand. Wise users back up their phones with Content Copier regularly to ensure that nothing is lost if the phone is lost, stolen or broken. Me, I remember to do it now and again
Advantages: All data can be backed up, and most data can be restored to most Nokia phones
Disadvantages: All of the big manufacturers have their own version, but they are not inter-compatible
