"Well, this is embarrassing" on desktop login

Still happens on Linux / KDE, and I think that 'other' OS.
Come on guys, its 2014 and this is still going on.... years and years now. I know it has something to do with an indirect application exit because firefox exec on linux is usually implemented as a shell script. I don't care if it is Linus's fault, A.Seigo, or you guys. Just fix it man

Just make sure the Firefox process is finished running completely before shutting down OS and mare sure "'''Show my windows and tabs from last time'''" is selected in Edit > Preferences > General.
If you close Firefox by way of File->Quit and open Firefox is should then start with all windows and tabs you you had open when you closed Firefox before. No need to purposely crash Firefox in order to resume where you left off.
If Firefox is running when I want to shut down I exit Firefox first and then go about closing other things as Firefox can sometimes take the longest to finish running especially if it has been up running for a good while and I have been viewing Flash videos.

As previously stated, I choose to start a new session every time I receive the "Well this is embarrassing" error message. When I choose this option, I am brought to a fresh tab with no information regarding work, articles, or entertainment from yesterday or some time in the past. I wish to have an explanation as to why this happens. I do not go on any malicious web sites or anything of the sort. This happens every single day. The automatic error message that appears is "Well this is embarrassing." For Firefox to say "Well this is embarrassing" is not close to the response it should give.

This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

When will the "Well, this is embarrassing..." problem going to be fixed? A lot of folks are having the problem. Do I need to just switch back to Safari?

When I log onto Moz., get an error message starting with, Well this is embarrassing... I don't have any clue what to do about it except to switch to a browser that is working.

I upgraded to FF Ver 20.0 a couple of months ago, and that is when this "Well, this is embarrassing" nonsense started. I've been using Firefox for many years on my several Mac computers, and it is only with this LAST upgrade that I have been getting this "error" message every time I start Firefox. YES, I have figured out how to avoid this problem by simply making sure that the particular window I want to START with is on the screen before I click the "Quit Firefox" tab under the "Firefox" word on the top menu. BUT HAVING TO DO THAT EVERY TIME I CLOSE FIREFOX IS NONSENSICAL !! Why do I have to do that now, when I've never had to do that before? It makes no sense. To avoid desktop clutter, I have always closed the open Firefox windows on the screen, but leave Firefox running in the background; then, when I want to get back on the internet an hour later and re-open Firefox (as I have done thousands of times in the past), now I get that nonsensical "Well, this is embarrassing" message again. It is extremely irritating, and totally unnecessary.
MOZILLA/FIREFOX Team ---- whatever you did, you must FIX this irritating problem which so MANY of us faithful Firefox users are now facing.

I have had this problem before and had to reinstall an earlier version of firefox.
The error console has a long list of errors, many of them end with: does not implement nsIObserver. Is there a way to send the information on the error console to firefox support?
Redownloading Firefox 4.0 will fix my problem until I either close firefox or turn off my computer. The problem recurs when I open firefox again.

Firefox 18.0 running on Mac 10.6.8: Error message "Well, this is embarrassing."

My computer recently upgraded to Firefox 18.0, and since then Firefox has been usable. With every link, I get a revolving, multi-colored wheel and, eventually, the following error message:

I started the same problem after upgrading to firefox 20 and I use no
extensions. It happens everytime I start up. I tried safe mode - no good.
I am not sure what to do next. I am a senior citizen and I would love

I am now getting the 'well this is embarrassing...' message EVERY time I open Firefox; I have my Home page set to always open 9 tabs - these are the SAME tabs I have opened at start-up for about 2 years - WHY this annoying message now?! When I click 'close' the Home page opens with all the tabs with no problem, but the message is really irritating & doesn't seem to be telling me anything, as there isn't a problem with any of the tabs? NB: In case you ask 'why 9 tabs'?; these are essential websites I use every time I am browsing/working; I cannot keep opening them manually every time. Please advise why this message comes up as here seems to be no problem, & how I can get rid of it? Thanks.

Thanks for the workaround. However what's missing here is some acknowledgement of a new problem? This error message on start-up is affecting every laptop and Mac in our house. It wasn't happening before the last upgrade so what's been broken and what else is damaged? Firefox has been running so clunky and slow of late that I'm considering abandoning it until I read things have been fixed.

Please also note that plugins may cause a slight delay in the shutdown sequence of Firefox. So it could be that Windows shuts down before Firefox completely exits. You can check if '''firefox.exe''' is still running by right-clicking on the Windows Taskbar and '''Start Task manager''', click the '''Processes''' tab. Also, check for '''plugincontainer.exe'''. Why did "Well, this is embarrassing" window open when no saved tabs?

No saved tabs when I closed yesterday, opened today:
"Well, this is embarrassing. Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. ..." window appeared but only "Window 1" & "about:blank" (my preferred opening) on the list.
-- i.e. there were no tabs to recover.
Why? Is there a problem?

You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website.

I have asked for help re this many, many times and I get:
1. no answers
2. answers only a guru tech with 100 years could understand
3. instructions that meet criteria of #2
4. tell me to do maintenance, cache, etc etc etc I do all this weekly at a minimum and my computer guru cleans my computer weekly.
5. this happens at a minimum of 3 per day....today, so far the number is 8! No it is not me, my computer, my system, my ISP, my browser, my addons and extensions, and all the other stuff

Hello rysueenter, just a temporary solution till the bug fixed, is to go to [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] find(or copied/paste from there) the '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash''' and double-click on it to make it FALSE.

hello, this is currently a problem in firefox when you first close all open firefox windows and then close the application afterwards - the bug should be addressed in a later version of firefox.
as a workaround in the meanwhile you could close firefox (through firefox > quit) while the browser window is still running or try this: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.
