Went fot it....got the new Macbook

Hey everyone,
After much debate i decided to go for the new macbook and boy did i make the right decision!
If any of you are thinking about it dont just do think, do it! you will NOT regret it!
I decided to go for the 1.83ghz with the standard stuff on it, might upgrade the RAM at a later date. I picked this model because i already have a powerbook 17" for my editing etc and a mac mini whcih i use for playing DVDs with the 23" display so it seemed the most logical.
When i 1st took it out of the box i was impressed with the clean lines of it, the built iSight is a great bonus and as always Apples packaging is top standards!
After getting all of my music library on it, photos etc there was some heat but nothing compared to what the macbook pros were described like. It feeld weird after looking my 23" display and my 17" to look at something that is only 13" but i'm sure i will get used to it lol.
I don't think i will be installing boot camp and windows etc because it took me years to save up and get away from windows so i dont want it back again lol. Already having an external DVD burner i was happy with the standard combo drive. The magsafe connector fascinates me! lol i think it was the best idea Apple every had,
Oh well time for me to keep playing with it!
Danny

Congrats on the new baby
How do you rate it fo colour when viewing say the same image on the 23" and the 17"
I have a 17" and a 20" and a G4 iBook 12"
And I find the 12" OK but washed out, 17" a lot better and 20" rich and super for colour seems to have a wider spectrum than the other two.
I'm thinking of selling my 12" for one

Try doing it without a cable!
    Use AirDrop, described here:

UPDATE - Oh, sorry, I see the article points out the MacBook is too old for AirDrop.

I'm in the same position, the store said they didn't know of any new release, so i bought my macbook pro to find out about mountain lion. I really hope that i'm not going to pay for the upgrade. New to apple, also last month bought my Ipad 3, really thought that Airplay would have been on my book pro, nope, waste of time.........need that update to use it. Back i the box then, get the windows 7 ultimate pro back out until then.

  • My dad just got the new MacBook for Christmas. His friends all use PC's....

My dad just got the new MacBook for Christmas. His friends all use PC's and they keep sending him these joke email attatchment files that he can't open on his Mac. One was a .wma audio file, presumably some were video files. Is it possible for him to read these files on his Mac with some aditional software or not? I haven't used Mac's predomanatly before so I'm unsure. What software should he download?

Playing video files from your computer is completely independent of the optical drive. You could play say a Windows Media file even if you didn't have a drive as long as that file is on your computer.
That said some report problems using VLC to play DVD's (hence using your optical drive).
But to the original poster..... Flip4Mac and/or VLC that was suggested should do the trick. About the only thing that would stop those would be a WM10 file that have DRM attached and there's nothing you can use at this point. It's highly unlikely that a bunch of jokes being sent around (great way to get a virus by the way, I know you probably won't and that's why you have a Mac but you get the idea) is using WM10 though.

  • Got the new MAcBook Air with Lion, and would like to sell the previous model. How do I delete everything?

    Hi guys.
I got the all new MacBook Air 11" with Lion yesterday, and would like to sell the previous model (it was with SnowLeopard).
What do I have to do to delete everything, including my account? Do I need the SuperDrive or is it possibile without one?
    Thanks!

Erase and Install OSX Snow Leopard http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
And yes, you need the SuperDrive for this.

  • Can I turn off the retina display feature on the new MacBook Pro?

    Hello,
I recently got the new MacBook Pro with Retina display. I love how fast this machine performs, it's weight and thickness.
However, working in Advertisement, this machine's made my line of work a bit too pixelated. There are no websites optimized for this new display, making portfolios hard to see as the retina screen makes things blurry and fussy looking. Not only that, but non of the Adobe products are ready for this technology either. It's hard to open a piece of software you'd like to design with and work with pixelated tools (photoshop among others).
I can do without the Ethernet port, optical drive and the lack of a locking system for this machine. But, making things uglier on the web isn't something I'm willing to sacrifice since is my line of work. Any idea of a third party that can turn this feature off?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, this beauty is going back to the Apple store.

sorry, but the 2880x1800 is hardware; in fact what makes non-optimized sites look (relativly) ugly is that to upscale the graphics to the apparent resolution of everything else each pixel is represented by 4 pixels, and as you know being in graphics, upscaling pictures is generally results in ugly.
Back to my point, there's no software to make the display lose 75% of its pixels; you'll either have to use another machine and/or wait for sites to optomize their graphics for the retina displays...which may or may never happen depending on the sites awareness/closeness with Apple's technology

  • Anyone See any protective sleeves/cases for the New macbook alum.?

Hey. I just got the new macbook alum. and i want to get a protective sleeve or case before it gets its first scratch.. The person at the apple store said that the old macbook cases and sleeves wouldnt work that great because the new macbook is much thinner than the old one. I just ordered a suede sleeve from Watefield Designs but thats because it was the only thing i could find.. Anyone see anything else that would help??
    thanks

Has anyone checked this company out - http://www.simonandcleo.com? They have lots of sizes available (even for some older models if you have any). They just added the new macbook aluminum last week. Im really liking their stuff! Even their wallets are cool. I am thinking of getting the 'Red & Republic' (http://www.simonandcleo.com/product_p/cbr002.nb.htm).
If anyone knows anything about them or have tried them out, please let me know. I am thinking of ordering next week.

  • Extra plug with the new macbook pro

I got the new macbook pro 13inch.
Along with the charger I also got a small plug with it like an extra piece.
    What is that

It replaces the cord itself, you can plug the Magsafe directly into a socket using that (localised) adapter - be warned though that most of them don't have an earth connection and so you might get some 'tingle' when you move your palms over the front of your MacBook Pro.

    Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

I would like to eventually delete the old profile so that I have more space on my hard drive.

I'm relatively new to Mac and want to try and get the most out of the new MacBook Air.
My wife and I have been sharing the same Apple ID. We both have iPhones - she has a 5 and I've got a 4S.
We only have one copy of iTunes and we have been sharing the account. (She doesn't really use the computer for anything beyond writing the odd weekend assignment.)
Would I be better off setting her up with her own and making her as a separate user on the computer? Would this require much work?
In recent times with updates, we have a few problems with the duplication of texts and that sort of thing. Both of our texts are stored on the computer and that sort of thing. Also, sometimes texts I send her are sent through to me  from her, if that makes any sense.
Anyway, I don't really want to overly complicate matters when it comes to accounts etc, but I wanted to know if a fresh Apple ID would be the best thing or even a new user?
Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks in advance

I have this question too (0) Reply

Your question is almost too much a personal one, begging the question "do we (husband and wife) feel comfy sharing one account on the Mac"   maybe thats why nobody answered you.
It doesnt complicate anything, but it adds steps for switching accounts on the Mac/ purchases etc. of course
since your question is mostly personal, ..I wont answer THAT part of it, but creating a new account is easy.....messing with switching back and forth is also a personal preference 'issue' as well.   I prefer to keep things simple, but...........you and yours,  I dont know.......

    LizMaddock,
you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.

  • I just got a new MacBook Pro, and I tried to bring across my files from my last mac using time machine. After it was done copying I can't find my files anywhere but the space (about 130gb) has been used on my hard drive. Help please!!

I just got a new MacBook Pro, and I tried to bring across my files from my last mac using time machine. After it was done copying I can't find my files anywhere but the space (about 130gb) has been used on my hard drive. Does anyone know how I can get to them? I did change my user name from 'user' while it was copying, could this have something to do with it?

You don't want to do that by copying.
Your best bet, by far, is to use Setup Assistant.  If your Mac is running Snow Leopard, see Using Setup Assistant on Snow Leopard or Leopard.
If it came with Lion, it's a bit different: Using Setup Assistant on Lion

You don't need to delete anything from your phone or you old computer.
Copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer or backup to /Music/ on new computer.
If you cannot use the old computer or don't have a backup...
-> Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
Then immediately make a backup of your new computer.
Get an external drive and plug it in and use -> Time Machine
