Went to show off iPad today - iPad was dead.
Today, I thought I would take the iPad 2 into my local violin shop to show my friends there how cool the Smule violin app is on the iPad, there is even a video online with a quartet of string players playing the iPad 2 with the Smule violin app to play a Bach concerto. Cool stuff.
When I get to the violin shop and try to start the app the iPad was deader than a doornail. After sitting unused for no more than two weeks on a full charge, the charge was entirely gone. So, no bragging rights and not a good day for the iPad 2.
So what is the story on battery life after a full charge? Shouldn't it hold for a few weeks without going down too much? I had the iPad on, it was not turned completely off, just sleeping. How can I avoid this in the future. I think there will be plenty of times where I won't want to use the iPad for days or even a few weeks. What is the recommended way to keep it fresh and not drained?
TIA,
Ken

A few weeks? I don't know that the battery should last that long in sleep mode even with a full charge. I've read on this site that some users claim that the battery should last 30 days on a charge but I can't document it anywhere in Apple's web site. I may be missing it but I've never read that myself. Here is Apple's take on the battery.

If you are going to go a couple of weeks without using it why let the power be on? Shut it off and then restart when you are ready to use it again. A few days is one thing, but a few weeks may be asking too much - IMHO.

My iPad just died. The gear symbol came up and then the screen went blank (turned off). It was fully charged so that wan't the issue.
That is indicating that the device has gone into recovery mode. Press just the Power button until the red Power Off slider appears and slide to turn it off. Then power it back up to see if it has exited Recovery Mode. If it has, then you should be good to go.
If it has not, then the issue you had that caused the iPad to turn off was one that put your device into Recovery mode requiring that you go through the recovery process (i.e., the reset did not process since the issue required a recovery to resolve). Here is a link that explains what you need to do to get out of Recovery Mode in that case:

My other iPad is only 5 months old. It was working fine but after I turned it off - now it will not turn back on.
If you are using iTunes 11 - it helps if you enable the sidebars if its not visible. From the iTunes menu at the top go to View>Show Sidebar. If iTunes does recognize the iPad, it should appear under the devices heading in the sidebar.
If it does not appear in the sidebar, you can try restoring using recovery mode. Recovery mode will totally erase the device so I hope that you have a backup that you can restore from. If you sync with iTunes, you will be able to sync all of your content back to the iPad after the backup is restored.
You can read about recovery mode here.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Here are the Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.

My Ipad was working on the internet but it now won't connect. I have tried resetting the network and turning Wifi on and off. When trying to connect it is continuously buffering. Can anyone please help?? Thanks in advance
Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

My iPad was stolen at the house yesterday. I have reported the matter to law enforcement. I have tried to track it using find my iPhone from my iPhone and it shows that the iPad is off. My work and important documents are there. Anyone who can assist on how I can trace it?
You cannot trace it if it is offline.
Hopefully you have a passcode on your iPad and you have backups of these documents. -

Try resetting the Winsock key. You will have to locate Command Prompt in Windows 8 (in Windows 7 its in Start>All Programs>Accessories), then right-click on it and choose Run as Administrator.** Once in command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then restart your PC and see if you can sign in now.
** I saw in another post that to run Command Prompt as an administrator in Windows 8 you do the following:
Go to the Start menu
Press the Windows logo key + Z to open the app commands.
Press Enter to select 'All apps'.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to the 'Command Prompt' tile.
Press the Application key to bring up the app commands.
Use the arrow keys to navigate to 'Run as administrator' and press Enter. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. -
I am trying to link coc between a new ipod and my iPad. The iPad was the old device. I did as I was supposed to by logging in the Game Center, then opening coc, and went thru the tutorial. The Game Center keeps trying to load the new village on my iPad and not the other way around. It basically is trying to make my old village the new village, meaning I lose a lot of progress. How do make it combine the 2? If I cannot, is there a way to remove the new village off the Game Center and add the one I want to be saved? Thank you.
You'll have to contact the app developer for help with this.

Last month I put a hold on my Amex card until a dispute I had regarding iTunes (on my iPad 4) was resolved. Today it was resolved, the hold was lifted, but now iTunes (iPad 4?) will not accept my Amex card and my Apple ID is locked. What can I do about this?
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
Thus, if you get it to work restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

My iPad was lost today. I am using the Find My iPhone app, but it is not showing on the device list or the map (though my iPhones, even one that is not iCloud enabled, is). What can I do?
The only thing you might do is enable Lost Mode, which will allow you to set a passcode on it (as well as a message and phone number where you can be reached) so it will be locked when and if it does go online. You can also receive an email informing you if it goes online so you can track it on icloud.com. See http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmfc0f0165.
In the meantime, you may want to change your passwords. -

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

It could have powered off. Try holding the sleep button down for a few seconds until the apple logo appears to restart it

Have to say, I've been messing with this for 30 minutes just trying to figure out how to post a question. Very frustrated.
How do I get back the bar that iTunes used to have which showed me what content on my iPad was eating up memory? The iPad itself doesn't seem to show that, I had to hook to iTunes to see it. Now that's gone.I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone. Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.
