WEP disables internet

I have setup a linksys BEFW411s4v4 wireless b router. when i have the network open, no WEP required the wirless works perfectly. when i enable WEP, i can no longer connect to the internet. i have verified the correct WEP password, i am using 128-bit hexidecimal key. i have no idea how to resolve this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Hi and welcome to the Discussions.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless.

  • Disable Internet Connection on LAN computers on Linksys E2500

    Hi,
I am new here, and going to setting up my router in my small office.
I have a Linksys E2500, and going to disable internet connection on computers that connected via LAN cable.
So, this is how I am going to set my office.
                                                                          Internet
                                                                                 |
                                                                          modem
                                                                                 |
                                                                   Linksys E2500
                                                                    (192.168.1.1)
                              |                                                                                                   |
                       Hub A                                                                                            Hub B
         PC 1                     PC 2                                                                PC 3                        PC 4
Hub A and Hub B are in different floor.
Do these Hub A and Hub B still give the same range of IP Address from linksys (192.168.1.x) to the PCs below them, like PC 1 got 192.168.1.2, PC 2 got 192.168.1.3 and go on? Can I reserve an static IP Address to each PCs, and disable internet only on PCs below Hub B (PC 3 and PC 4)? I cannot find any controls for disabling internet connection on LAN interface from the E2500 Setup Interface. There are only Wireless MAC Filtering and no LAN MAC Filtering.
If this thing sounds stupid, I am sorry but I have no experience in setting network here. I hope someone can help me out.
    Thanks a lot.

I agree with FurryNutz. You will need an IP-enabled device for the router block it via Parental Controls. If you have wireless bridge or a manageable switch, you can block that and all the devices connected to it should also be blocked from internet access.
I think you can set Static DNS on the computers under Hub B to 0.0.0.0 which will not allow them to access the internet but are still within the router's local network.

  • Disabling Internet Explorer

I'm not able to find anything in regards to disabling Internet Explorer 10 on a 2008r2 standard server running remote desktop services.
I figured it would be as simple as stripping the defaults and denying access through the control panel option, but apparently it's a little more complication than that.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

  • I want to disable Internet access to user using GPO

I am using Win Server 2008 R2, I want to disable the users from accessing Internet which are in that OU. Can anyone tell me how is it possible ?

    Hi,
Disabling Internet access using software on the client is inherently difficult. The client isn't aware of what is an internal resource (like an Intranet page for example) as opposed to an Internet resource. You can use GPOs to disable specific programs
(like browsers) or to change how traffic is routed by the client but in order to effectively control who can and can't access the Internet, your best bet is a perimeter device like a proxy or firewall that sits between your clients and the Internet and is
integrated with AD so it can manage access to the Internet based on users, groups, IP addresses, etc.
The closest you can come without a proxy is to configure a proxy server address for those users using the Internet Explorer Maintenance component (found under User Configuration\Windows Settings). This proxy can either be a non existent address or
if you want more control over the error messages users get, it can be an internal web server with a page that provide a custom message. The same configuration will allow you to list specific URLs that are exempt in case you have specific web sites, internal
or external that must be available.
Note that this option will apply to all browsing, internal and Internet based, but will only impact IE. Internet access using other browsers or other software will not be impacted unless that software leverages the IE proxy configuration (which many
    applications do).
    Hope this helps,
    Guy

  • Disable internet but not MMS, is it possible?

    Hi guys,
my girlfriend has an iPhone 4, the "stable" situation was that she was able to send and receive MMS, but not to browse in internet (but through WiFi of course). She liked the situation, because in Italy rates to go in internet are not very convenient...
Then Vodafone decided to provide her (as gift) with one month of free internet. She accepted and her iPhone "got configured"... somehow...
Now that the month is expired, now and then some application connects and she pay quite a lot of money to Vodafone... The only way in which she can avoid the problem is by disabling 3G and GPRS data, however with this she can't send and receive MMS...
Vodafone said that it is not in their services configuration the problem, but in her phone, and that she should find proper way to disable internet. Any idea of how to do it, without losing MMS?
    THANKS!!
    Marco

I have an iPhone 3GS, and I live happily without being connected... Or better, I have WiFi in office and at home and I don't need more... Indeed my iPhone can send MMS, but it cannot browse internet without Vodafone configuring my phone somehow...
The same situation applied to my girlfriend with her iPhone 4G, but after Vodafone "promotion", now the phone is configured and we cannot do anything about it...
The question was if it was possible to configure iPhone 4G to go back to the previous situation... In 3GS, I have Settings -> General -> Network, I have options to configure APN connection data, while iPhone 4G doesn't seem to have it... Does anyone know how to configure the phone?
    Thanks,
    Marco

  • Disable internet on clients with ARD?

A good friend of me is teacher and he use Apple Remote Desktop to manage all his iBooks from his students. There are times when it's alowed for them to use the internet, but also times when they are requested to listen to the teacher and don't send e-mails to friends.
Is there a possibility to use ARD to disable internet access for the students client machines?
    -nico

Well, other than making a script of some sort that will lock out port 80 (basic web) and turn it back on the easiest solution is just to have the class list up and sort the list by Application. When the students are supposed to be working in word and you see little Steven is running Safari, all you have to do is monitor their screen and see if what they are doing is what they should be doing. We have the preferences set on student machines that they never know when we are watching, it makes the good ones less paranoid and doesn't warn the bad one that you have ARD active. Most students will often change their behavior when caught, knowing that you can see all that they do, even when your not standing beside them.

  • Cannot disable internet connection and use wlan co...

hi i have download skype and i cant use it with my wlan connection because its already connected with internet and i might get charge for using this service could you please tell me how to disable internet and use wlan connection when i am in home
    my handset details are
its made in hungary  software version is v 11.0.0.029 software date 11-08-10 rm612
and there is no update availabe for my handset at the moment

It sounds like you are using an unsupported App like "Jailbreak" which technically voids the warranty on your iPhone. Your call on that.
If so, the app creates an "ad hoc" wireless network which the Airport Express cannot join or participate in. So, you cannot use both the AirPort Express and the "modem" function of your iPhone at the same time.
You should be able to turn the app off and log off the internet, and then setup another separate wireless network to run AirTunes, or AirPlay. But, you'll have to "switch" wireless networks to be able to do this and the network will of course not have access to the Internet.

  • Force sleep without disabling Internet Sharing

    Hi,
Now that Mountain Lion includes WPA2 Personal encryption for Internet Sharing over Wireless, I've decided to try using it instead of my Airport Extreme Base Station to shre my internet access with my iPhone and notebook.  One of the benefits I hoped to gain was the ability to simply put my Mac mini to sleep to turn off my network when, for example, sleeping or at work.  That way I reduce opportunity for unauthorized attempts at access and save energy.
The only flaw appears to be that the Mac mini doesn't want to sleep when Internet Sharing is on.  I've tried using the menu item and the keystroke (Option-Command-Eject), but neither will send the Mac to sleep.  To get around this, I could simply turn off Internet Sharing when I don't need it; but:
    1) This means launching System Preferences and authenticating to the Sharing pane, which is cumbersome and slow
    2) Internet Sharing forgets my wifi settings when it's disabled
Does anyone know of a way to force my Mac to sleep even when Internet Sharing is enabled?

    Hello Scotch,
I'm working on my MBP 15' late 2011. I use it at school (Wifi network) and at home (Ethernet cable).
I also like to turn on the internet sharing for my iphone as my room is to far from our hotspot @ home... (**** you concrete walls)
But i'm also one of the jerks that abuses his mac by almost never shutting it down and just closing the lid (same as putting it to sleep).
i found out that when i close the lid with the ethernet plugged in (& sharing turned on), my macbook does not sleep. This can be handy, but can be annoying for noises at night.
If you turn off the airport on your computer, or remove the wired internet connection, the internet sharing will stop without changing your pref's.
when you turn it back on, or plug the cable back in; the sharing starts again with the same settings automaticly.
It's not 100% what you're asking for, but it does the job in 2 clicks...
    i hope it helped.
    Greetings,
    Wouter, Belgium.

  • I WANT to disable internet with a password

I have teenagers in the house sometimes and a particular issue within the home that requires me to completely disable the internet, while I am not home. I want the computer to be able to be accessed but not the internet. Is this possible and how?? Thank you.

You may want to enable parental control on Mac OS X accounts dedicated for your children.
    1. Go to System Preferences > Accounts
    2. Create a new account for your children, one for all or one for each
    3. Enable parental controls
    4. In Content, check "Allow only access to these websites"
    5. Eventually remove those you don't want listed.
    6. You may want to use "Time Limits" to restrict usage based on time.
You may want to look at other options here to simplify computer usage, etc.

  • Is there any Apple software or app that can disable internet in a lab?

I manage a computer lab of 28 computers and just need SOMETHING that can remotely disable the internet temporarily. I am going out of my mind trying to find something that will work. Its a wireless lab, used by HS students. I have no control over the wireless hub/ "airport"/ whatev settings,  parental controls are not a viable option. ARD seems to have been a bust.
    Suggestions?

The easiest thing to do is use ARD to set the proxies to a non-existant proxy server (127.0.0.1)  when you want to disable www.
There is a template in Send UNIX Command>Templates>Network Setup>Web Proxy
Replace the last line of the template with these two and send to clients (test one Mac first):
    networksetup -setwebproxy "Wi-Fi" 127.0.0.1 8080 Off
    networksetup -setsecurewebproxy "Wi-Fi" 127.0.0.1 8080 Off
Replace "Wi-Fi" with whatever their active Network conenction is named in System Prefs>Network, as sometimes it has a custom name if Wi-Fi has been retrofitted.
To turn internet ON, repeat the above with commands to disable proxies..
    networksetup -setsecurewebproxystate "Wi-Fi" off
    networksetup -setwebproxystate "Wi-Fi" off
You can save these Tasks in the sidebar or in the Send UNIX Command>Templates menu and name them "Internet OFF" & "Internet ON".
Then in future, you can just Right-click and choose Run Task.

Computer B  win 98   ip 192.168.2.232 with pci network card
Router Linksys WRT54GS, with ip 192.168.2.230, but i use it just like a hub because i don't have here internet connection
both computers connected with cable and all work nice.
Then i added a wireless/USB Planet because i want to connect it to another router in another building to get internet connection, so i connected this Planet wireless/USB to computer A, all work nice, i get signal internet connection and ip 192.168.1.102
but ..... and that is the problem, when i connect computer B win local area it disable my internet connection, i try to ping some domain name from computer A, where Planet adaptor is installed, but it try to find this domain name in local area instead to route in internet connection, if i deactivate local area ..... internet connection work like a charm.
I tried to change several ip groups, all in 192.168.1.x, tried to disable, enable DHCP server in router, tried to change subnet mask, tried to use proxy, to play with router configuration...... nothing it not work.

  • How do i disable internet plug ins?

My laptop is telling me that if i want to watch anything on netflix i have to disable an internet plug in, i dont know where to locate the library to be able to do this though, can someone help me out please?

Under the Safari Help menu (furtherest to right) select "Installed plug-ins." You'll open a page that lists your installed Internet plug-ins. Netflix requires Microsoft's Silverlight plug-in to view content so make sure that it shows as installed.
If you need to remove a plug-in, see -> http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11931?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US.
    Good luck,

  • How to disable internet at a certain time for certain computers?? (kinda like a parental control)

We have a WRT54G and we all connect to the router wirelessly. The router has to be downstairs because our modem also has to be downstairs. We have digital phone so our phone has to be connected to the modem, which is why i cannot connect physically with an ethernet cable.
I have a little brother and a little sister and i have to control their internet because i see them awake in their rooms surfing the net. I see that i can disable "wireless internet connection" or create a policy disabling the internet at certain days and times at 192.168.blah.blah. But i just want to create a policy for my sister and brother's connection and not mine. I'm afraid if i create a policy, it may also disable my connection to.
    Help please.
    Thanks.

You will need the IP addresses and MAC address for the computers you want to block.  You will find this information under DHCP table.
In Access Restrictions set a policy name and set status to enable. Input your computers info in Edit lists of PCs.  Now set your days and times.
The system works between 12 am to 11:59 pm  You can allow Internet from say 6 am to 11 pm but you cannot deny from 11 pm to 6 am.
If you have any problems download userguide for your router.
