WEP password for Windows machine

Hi to all,
Okay, got two refurbed airport express units from apple yesterday. I set them up in WDS mode and both my iMac and ibook are connected and working well. My wife tries to connect to the wireless network and it asks for the WEP password. I enter the password that I set up for the connection but this does not work. It is prompting me for a much larger password. Where can I find this password?
Thanks!
Greg

Glenn900, et al,
Thanks for your prompt response, but unfortunately I am not following these instructions very well. I am using WDS, which means that I have two basestation choices within the Airport Admin utility. One is the basestation, the other is the relay basestation. Which one do I double click? Assuming I click on the basestation, I get a large window that comes up with different categories:
Airport, internet, network, port mapping, access control, WDS, music. I do not see any lock icons in any of these sections. However, in looking into the button entitled "airport" there are several buttons that seem to be relevant: change password, base station options, change wireless security and wireless options. When I look at "change wireless security" I do get a window that addresses wireless security and has a box for the WEP passwords. This password is not shown however all I have is ••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I am thinking that I need to have that 128bit WEP password revealed to me so that I can input it into my wife's windows machine. How do I get that password?

Maybe. What kind of other computer are you talking about? What operating system is it running? What kind of wireless router are you using?
Your best bet may be to just reset the router and set it up again.
Just so you know, WEP is a very old security system for wireless and is considered insecure. If you have it available, use WPA2.

  • For printer LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC

    Dear All
for printer  LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC?please help?

What Windows OS are you using?  Are you networked?
If you are networked, you have to setup your file and print sharing options in order to require password assess.  If you are just trying to control specific files from being printed, you can do that, too.
If you are just trying to control the amount of printing off of a single PC with a printer, you could setup different accounts for each user and limit their access.
Some of the commercial printers can have password options, but I do not find any password options for the CM 1410, other than what I provided earlier.
If I have been helpful, a Kudo is always appreciated.

  • Username and password for Windows doesn't work for Safari

I just installed Safari 3.0.3 for windows under WindowsXP on local machine. But I have problem access local IIS.
    Here is what I did:
    1. type http://localhost in Safari
    2. I get a pop up login window says "To view this page, you need to log in to area localhost on localhost:80",
    3. I entered my username and password to Windows, then "Enter"
    4. The pop up window comes back, it says "the name and password entered for are localhost on localhost:80 is incorrect."
I don't see this problem in IE or Firefox on the same machine. In Firefox, it pops a similar window ask for username and password, I entered the same username and password to Windows, it works. But in Safari, it doesn't.
I am wondering if anyone knows how to solve this problem. thanks.

    Hi,
i've couple of ideas that might help...
    1:
just wandering are either of you guys accessing the internet via a proxy server? if so i suspect that Safari is not by bypassing local addresses and hitting the proxy server first.
if this is the case, Safari should respect the same settings that IE does, so try setting IE and/or FF to bypass the proxy for local address/servers - and see if Safari now works...
    2:
also, the text box that ask's you for your password, does it say on it somewhere, something like, "password will be sent clear" or "password will be sent encrypted"
i seem to get a similar problem, but with accessing our work ISA server, my localhost is fine btw. Anyway it might be the case the safari is trying to send a clear text password to an encrpyted password request or vica-verca (sp?) - soooo try setting your IIS to accept clear/basic authentation as well at NT Auth/Encrypted
ok, hope that helps, and make sense

  • Where can I find the WEP password for my older airport extreme?

I have a log-in password for my home network, but my HP printer wants a "WEP Password."  I don't know where to find that.  Any ideas?

It's a brand new printer, just out of the box.  It should connect via wireless, but it doesn't recognize the network security password.  The router is an old Airport Extreme, the kind that looks like a big white chocolate chip.  I tried through the airport utility to check on its security settings, but the dialog box said this version of airport utility didn't support the router and to download airport utility 5.6.  I did that, but it wouldn't let me do anything, not even update to 5.7, which it recommended, because it didn't recognize the password.  The password works to access the network from other devices, though.
I suppose the next thing to try is to reset the router completely, but I hesitate to do that because I am not sure it will let me back into my network after I do that.  Since it only recognizes its password sometimes.

  • Is the APEX 2.2 hosted on the oracle site only for windows machine

    Hi,
Is the APEX 2.2 hosted on the oracle website only for the windows machine.
Can I download the APEX 2.2 s/w for a linux box as well. Kindly let me know
if a linux version is available anywhere else.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
ApEx is running inside the database, so there is only one version of it, which can be downloaded here - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/download.html
The database itself can be run on Linux. You can see all the available versions in here - http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html

  • Password for Time machine backup

Anyone can help with security issue for time machine backup?
-I want my time machine disk to be password protected
since it is very easy for everyone accessing backup disk from time machine, it is really not secure, or any other backup application have password protection?

    vernonstreet wrote:
If I have misplaced my password for the time capsule, how do I reset?
That's a different password. Do a "soft reset" per [Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728].

  • How can I reset/override a forgotten password for Time Machine back up hard drive?

I have a g-drive slim but can't remember the password because I haven't used it in a long time. Checked g-drive website and it wasn't very helpful:
    http://support.g-technology.com/phpbb3/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=132146&sid=88d7393f2 f66e67581b8143e9b30f8ef
Also checked Apple Support for Time Machine and nothing on how to reset/override.

    Hi Vitamin A,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of the issue you are describing. If you are talking about an issue with an encrypted backup, there may not be a way to override the password:
You need your backup password to restore files from Time Machine backups. If you forget your backup password, Time Machine can’t use the backups.

If you are less concerned about the backup or other information and would like to continue using the disk, you may need to delete the existing volume or partition:

  • Reformat external hard drive for Windows machine using disk utility

I have a Maxtor 160GB dual-interface external HD. I used it for my Mac OS X. I erased and reformated the hard drive on my Mac to MS-DOS using Disk Utility for use on my fathers Windows XP. I hooked the hard drive up to the Windows machine and the hard drive was visible in both Windows Explorer and on the task bar. I right clicked on the hard drive and selected Format. The formatting takes a while but at the end an error appears indicating the hard drive was not formattable. How can I get a MS-DOS formatted hard drive (from a Mac) to be used on a Windows XP machine with a NTFS format?

    Turns out it is possible:
    Maxtor Support..
I would use your Disk Management utility within Windows to repartition and reformat the drive. To access Disk Management, right click on My Computer, go to Manage, and then choose Disk Management. Within Disk Management the drive should show in your list of disks (Disk 0,1,2 etc etc). I would delete any partitions that are on the drive. To delete a partition, just right-click on the partition and choose delete. Make sure you’re deleting the correct drive. Once the entire drive says unallocated then the drive should be ready to partition and format. Just right click within the Unallocated Space on the drive and choose the New Partition or New Volume option to set up the drive.
I followed the instructions and everything worked.

  • What is the default password for Windows server r2?

What is the default password for the evaluation copy of Windows 2012 R2?
You can't log on and it wants to change the password , yet nothing works .
This is the non gui version.  About to format it and install the GUI version to see if it doesn't have this bug.
    Thanks

I downloaded from MS on Friday.
It refuses to let me set a password or log on. Tomorrow I will blow it off and try the gui version to see if it's any better.

  • Password for time machine backups

I have a 250 GB WD external hard drive that I use for my Time machine backups.
I do not want to encrypt the backups on the external HD.
I only want to create a password for the HD so that when mounted it requires a password.
Is there a way I can do this.

    No.

  • Wep password for ibook G4

I have a G4 and had to change the password on my Linksys router, I am trying to change the wep password and I know I am entering the correct password. But if my memory is correct, when I initially set up the wep password, I had to enter a single number or symbol BEFORE the password. Has anyone done this? If so,what is that "missing" character?

I believe it's the $ symbol that you need.
On a related note, if at all possible, at least use WPA encryption as any WEP password is very easily cracked, which puts your network--and any information you're sending out--at risk.

  • File Vault not accepting password for Time Machine external HD

After installing OSX Lion on my wife's MB and encrypting her Time Machine backup (in the Time Machine control panel), my wife and I were both able to successfully mount our external drive using our computers (I have a MBP running Lion).
Recently my machine wouldn't load the external drive even though I had entered the correct password, but her machine would still load it fine.
Now neither of our machines will load the external drive - despite entering the correct password, File Vault doesn't accept it.
Are there any known issues with File Vault 2 encrypted external drives?
    Thanks

Are you absolutely sure you're entering the right password, and the caps-lock key is not down? If you are sure, then the drive may be failing. The first thing to do is make another backup to a different drive, if you don't already have one.

  • Password for time machine

Okay, I super new at all of this and I was trying to free up some hard drive space so I followed this website
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/maintscripts.html
And followed the instructions below which I thought would help clean up some unnecessary files, but now I can't type my password when I try to delete a file in time machine.... please help!
    The Terminal way
Using your Admin account, you can run all three maintenance scripts at once:
    1. Open Terminal, located in the Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities folder.
    2. At the Terminal prompt, type the following, exactly as written:
    1. sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
    3. Press Return.
    4. Type your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
All three scripts will run in sequence. There is no visual feedback while the scripts execute. You will know they are completed when the Terminal prompt returns.

There's no correlation between what you did and your inability to enter a password WRT Time Machine. The maintenance scripts only remove outdated log files and not much more. Have you quit the Terminal app? Have you restarted?

  • Retrieving password for Time Machine

    Hi all!
For some time now, when I turn my computer on I get a pop up window asking me to log onto my Time Machine so my iMac can back up to it.
The time Machine window has my name in it but every password I try does not work.  I can see where you can change your password but if you dont know your existing one, you cant change it.  How do I retrieve my password?  At the moment the name in the window is my name - i.e. not my Apple ID - which I have tried also.
Any suggestions to show me how to retrieve my password will be appreciated.
    Lorraine

How do I retrieve my password?
You cannot retrieve your password. The Mac encrypts it as it is entered, and only the encrypted version is stored. Your Mac does not even know how many characters are in your password. All it can tell is, if you enter it again and it encrypts what you enter, was that It?
You can forcibly RESET your password, but then the old password is lost. so everywhere else that requires a password will then require the new password.
