WEP setup with Airport network

Greetings,
Hopefully this will not be a difficult question. I have an Apple Airport network that I have been using to connect a Playstation 2 to the internet with using a WGA11b Game Adapter. Being in a rural area I had not worried about using any security on the network.
But now that situation has changed causing me to activate WEP security on the network. I am unable to figure out how to modify the settings in the Game Adapter to recognize the new security. Is there a way I can "talk" to the Adapter with one of my Macs to fix this?
Matt Bowerman

You will require a windows based PC as the setup disk that comes with the GA will only run on windows...and that';s the only method to configure teh WGA11b since it does not have a web interface.

  • Telephone interference with Airport network

I have read in several places both here and elsewhere that there is potential for interference by a 2.4 GHz cordless phone with my Airport network. Is it fair to assume that a 5.8 GHz cordless phone system would be okay? I am currently having no problems with Airport networking, and would like to keep it that way as I upgrade my old phone system.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

That potential exists for any 802.11b or g wireless network as both use the same frequency spectrum. If you find a phone that uses a different spectrum, you should not have any problems. For example I have an old 900Mhz phone that does not interfere.
    Good luck.

  • Bluetooth interfere with airport network?

I have had my share of interference issues with my airport network....thinking about buying bluetooth speakers....will they interfere with my wifi network......ie streaming from a touch to speakers?

According to this thread, bluetooth can interfere with WiFi on the 2.4GHz band, but not on the 5Gz band.

  • Mac Mini Server setup with airport express

I have had issues trying to setting up mac mini server on my network. I wonder if my current hardware is the problem? At present I have a Thomson Router plugged into an airport express which broadcasts wifi for my house. I have been connecting to my wifi with my mac mini server. Despite running server assistant and setting up a DNS server in Mac Mini server no clients are able to connect to the DNS server (i.e. dig command works on server but not on clients). I found reference somewhere on the internet to the fact that the mac mini server must be plugged into the router via ethernet for it to be setup properly.
Could this be the cause of my problems? Is it true?

Just to clarify this is an airport express and not airport extreme therefore I am reliant on a wireless connection between my mac mini server and the airport express.
The model of the Airport device here is largely irrelevant.
Currently my Thomson router serves out an address of 192.168.1.67 to airport express router.
Do you have any control over the gateway router?
The airport express is configured to share out a single IP address
Double NAT (which is what you have here) will cause you problems. Get rid of one layer of NAT.
The airport express gives out addresses in range of 10.0.1.2-10.0.1.202 with 10.0.1.1 being the address for the airport express and 10.0,1.201 being assigned via DHCP to the mac mini server (using its MAC address to reserve the address)
Within the private blocks, the IP addressing organization is your decision.
The DNS server is set on the airport express to 10.0.1.201 (i.e. my server).
OK. (I usually pick smaller numbers for more important boxes, because I tend to type addresses for those boxes more than the addresses of the boxes over in DHCP-land. But again, this is your call.)
I guess I wondered if something funky was going on with server assistant during the setup. A post I read somewhere (I've lost the link) was someone in an identical situation who had issues and said that apple had stated that he need to be directly connected to the router by ethernet cable to get things working. I wondered if this is the issue. An airport express does not have a spare ethernet port to plug into so I wonder if I need to buy a wireless router with built-in ports i.e. airport extreme (expense+) or something similar.
I'd probably switch the box to access point, but that presumes you can get (more) control over the gateway router.
I can access by Thomson router but I able unable to change the DNS servers that it provides (set by my ISP) from the GUI. I'm sure you could probably do it from the commandline but I think this is beyond me. I did wonder if that is what is causing problems
Talk with the ISP. You'd prefer to have the device switched to a bridge, if that's feasible. If not, then you're going to have to work within the confines of the particular model.

  • WDS setup with Airport Express and other(non-Apple) wireless router

    Hi,
I am trying to configure a wireless network with one airport express and one Planex Wireless access point. Can anyone please point me to the settings to be made for such a scenario? I can use either of them as the main WDS device, and have a (wired)router provided by the ISP in the network.(so total 3 devices : airport, planex a/p , ISP router)
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, both with a Linksys WRVS4400Nv2, and a WRT54G. I've not put much effort into the WRT, but the WRVS was such a pain that I don't think I can get it to work at all.
The WRT doesn't have a section on WDS, but I've read that it's supported anyways, and nothing needs to be enabled on it. Is there a good step-by-step available here or elsewhere that uses close to the same router and Airport Express units, on the latest Airport setup software?
Basically, I'm trying to set this up for a guy in an ~8000 sq. foot house so he has wireless throughout it, and he wants itunes streaming from the AX. Has anyone done this?

  • PLEASE HELP ME, Problems with airport/network set up all of a sudden.

Ok here goes. Saturday Aug. 19 I was on the internet, everythings fine. Then all of a sudden my airport drops/disconnects. I went into assistant, internet connect, preferences and so on. My computer tells me in Network Diagnostics that the airport is green, airport settings is green, network setting is green, isp is green, but internet and server are red. Ive messed around with it to no prevail, in fact I believe I think I have made it worse. Now only the airport is green. I have know idea. My roommate also has an Apple and his wireless/airport is fine, nothings changed. As I have "messed" with it, I have come across a section where it tells me my internet set up/preferences or something has been changed by another application, if that makes any sense. This is not so much a problem as it is a hassel. Now I must sit at the coffee table to get on the internet.
Is there a way to start over or is this a serious problem needing an Apple store tec? Can someone walk me through what I need to do to fix this, as I have no idea what Im doing.
If there is any more information needed... Please ask.

No the password isn't your apple id password.
You encrypted your backup with a password, if you don't remember the password, then i'm sorry you won't be able to use it.

  • Netgear DG834G setup with Airport Extreme Base

Until yeseterday my home network consisted of an ADLS modem connected by ethernet to an Airport Extreme base, to get additional range I have an additional Airport Extreme Base downstairs ( life before ap express). I also have a USB printer in the 1st base - all was good and life was wonderful.
Then..... the adsl modem/router died. It was recommended that I get the Netgear DG834G as it was easy to setup blah blah blah... Long story short it is set up and I do have internet access wirelessly to part of my house - the range is terrible. I would like to use the two airport base stations I have to get acceptable coverage and also to use my printer via the USB again.
Can anyone please tell me how to make the airport bases talk to the Netgear. BTW ... Base #1 is sitting next to the Netgear box so if it needs to be connected by ethernet it is no problem.
    Thanks much Susan

You can connect your AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to the Netgear via Ethernet. Configure the AEBS so that the option to distribute IP addresses is disabled.

  • Foscam setup with airport express

Hey all I am stuck with my new Foscam.  Has anyone set up a foscam using ethernet from iMac to camera directly?  I can't seem to access the camera setup via browser because I get a short generic IP adress 10.0.1.*** etc.  I also just found out that airport express does not set up via browser.

Are you able to find the camera when you connect it to your imac? if you are able to find it you should be able to login and configure it so that on reboot it goes directly to the wireless. Are you using "IP Camera Tool.app"?

  • Help needed with Airport network G5 Quad & MBP

    Hello,
I need some advice on Airport. I hope these aren't simple stupid questions...
I have a G5 Quad (Dec 2005) attached to a cable modem. I just ordered a 15" MBP 2.2. I am wondering if all I need to network them wirelessly is an Airport card for the G5 where the G5 will act as the base station? Do I need to purchase a base station? I want to be able to connect wireless with the MBP to access the internet, files on the G5 which also has two external hd's attached and a printer.
Then in regards to the base station, it seems as if the Express actually does more than the Extreme in that you are able to listen to iTunes wirelessly as well and it is more portable. Why would someone opt to spend more on the Extreme? Are there any performance differences?
Any help or advice is appreciated...

Yes, this is totally possible. To share files and your printers, simply go into System Preferences > Sharing > Check both "Personal File Sharing" and "Printer Sharing". Now when you go to print on your MBP, you'll see under the printer drop down box a section called "Shard Printers" – simply pick the one you want to print to and you're good to go.
As for accessing files, once Personal File Sharing is turned on, from your MBP, go to Network in a Finder window and you should see the name of your Quad in there. Double click on it, then enter the user name and password of the QUAD (not the MBP) and hit Connect. You'll then be presented with a list of drives which you can then choose from. You'll have to repeat the procedure for each drive you want to connect to, so I personally just save the username and pass to the Keychain so I don't have to re-enter it everytime.
As for sharing internet from your Quad, go back into the Sharing pane in System Preferences and under the "Internet" tab, you can choose to share your connection via Airport. So, for example, you can say "Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet 1" then check "AirPort" under the "To computers using:" box.
    Hope this helps!

  • Lots of problems with Airport Network???

    Hi,
My experience with the Airport Extreme wireless network has not been positive at all. I don't know about other brands of wireless networks - maybe they are all like this? Maybe it is a wireless thing. The problems range from base stations just dropping out and going "orange" for no apparent reason, randomly - they will work for weeks at a time, they just drop out - to extremely slow local area network access, with relatively little or no other network traffic going on - remote desktop in particular sometimes slows to an absolute crawl and it's very frustrating, then I have to traverse to the other end of the building to access the machine I'm working on directly just to get that work done. I'm not a WIFI expert, but I've tried reassigning the base stations to other channels, tried the interference option, and a few other things. I just find it's very unreliable, coverage is very poor in this building, and no matter what I do it seems to have the same below average result. I like Apple a lot, but these systems and their lacklustre "we help you set up one WDS system and that's it further support costs $xx.xx " telephone support was disappointing. I was surprised to be honest, most of my other dealings with apple support and hardware has been good or excellent.
Anyone know what I can do? They all have the latest firmware / software updates, and I have 3 stations, one main hooked up to broadband, and two remotes.
    M.

I can not help you other then to say I have experienced some of what you have. I live with it because I love it and to solve my issue all I have to do is unplug the base unit and re-plug it in. It works, sorry if this is not satisfy or works for you. I have same issue with cable TV, with internet and with IVOP but I live I use and it works.

  • Recommended modem to work with airport network?

I have Time Warner internet and need to get a modem to work with an Airport Express, Extreme and Time Capsule. Can anyone please recommend one?
    Thanks.

We recommend a modem that is compatible with your Internet service and one that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will support.
We could recommend the "best" modem in the world, but it would be of little value if you have connection difficulties and then find out that your ISP does not support that modem.
It might be a better stategy to check with your ISP first, to see what they offer....or....if they do not offer a modem, to see if they have a list of compatible models that they will support.
Often, the ISP will provide you with a modem free of charge of you commit to year or more of service.
If you cannot decide among compatible models, then post back a list of what your ISP is offering.....to see if other users will respond with some opinions.

  • Problem with 2 computers Airport network

While long time comfortable with Mac, I am novice with Airport/network.
I have a MacMini (with Airport card) and a new PowerBookPro (15" 2.2 Intel Core 2 Duo and Airport card). I have new Airport Extreme Base device and I have successfully set up wireless internet connection for both computers.
I have also successfully through Airport set up so my mini connects with MBP/sees the MBP on the Mini desktop, etc..
My problem is that I haven't done the +correct rain dance+ so that the MBP connects to see my Mac mini on the MBP.
No clue what is being done wrong, except: In Finder of Mini under Go --> Network the MBP is listed and I then connect through steps of that window.
However, on the MBP Finder under Go --> Network, I just get a "flash" and no menu window is displayed at all.
Strange to me that computer network gods are so easily accommodating one way (Mini connects with MBP via Go/Network) and totally absent in reverse (no connect of MBP via Go/Network with Mini).
I hope someone can guide me through the correct ritual so that the 2 computers can go both ways. TIA.

    I solved my problem!
Looking in other discussion forums, I found workaround for the fact that when on MBP/Finder/Go/Network all I got was a flash and no window.
The recommended solution worked! To simply logout and then login on that MBP. This restored the Go windows and Network window showing my MacMini to connect with.
So now both computer go both ways.

  • Connecting 802.11b/g devices to an 802.11n AirPort network

I have a Time Capsule with an iMac and a MacBook connected to it. I want to add a Windows laptop to the setup, but it only has 802.11 b/g networking built in. As I understand it, adding an 802.11b or g device to an 802.11n network will slow the network down to the speed of the slower b or g device. What kind of 802.11n device, that is compatible with the AirPort (Broadcom?) chipset, should I get to connect this computer to the network? (The PC does not have a card slot.)
Would an AirPort Express work in WDS mode, with its Ethernet port connected to the laptop's Ethernet port?

As I understand it, adding an 802.11b or g device to an 802.11n network will slow the network down to the speed of the slower b or g device.
Not quite all the way down to 802.11b or g, but there will be a bandwidth degradation for 802.11n clients.
What kind of 802.11n device, that is compatible with the AirPort (Broadcom?) chipset, should I get to connect this computer to the network?
A number of vendors, specializing in networking equipment, offer 802.11n USB wireless adapters. I have used a number of Cisco/Linksys products that work just fine with AirPort networking.
Would an AirPort Express work in WDS mode, with its Ethernet port connected to the laptop's Ethernet port?
If this AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is a 802.11b/g version, then it would have the same affect as any other 802.11b/g client. In fact, in a WDS, the network will only operate in the 802.11g mode, so you really don't to go that route either. Another option, would be to use a newer 802.11n AX; reconfigure it as a ProxySTA, and use its Ethernet port for the connection to the PC.

  • Connect two Apples with Airport??

have a new Airport Extreme to take on the road.
    (Never used airport before)
While I have it at home I would like to connect the airport
to my Mac G4 desktop/Powerbook via Ethernet and dial into
the Internet and use that net connection for my Mac Book
via Airport. I have setup an airport network using the Ethernet connection and my Mac Book sees it.
My question is how can I get the Mac Book to 'see' the other computer and get control of the internet access????
    (remote desktop??? Apple server????)
    What's the setup???
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply.
    Actually you had the answer.
I turned on sharing on the internet computer (host)
for the internet dial as the input and ethernet as the output.
Than connected ethernet to Airport Extreme and setup an Airport network entry.
Any computer logged on to that Airport entry can access the
    internet via the host computer.

  • Setup wireless network for mac and pc with Airport Express?

    Mac Mini/OSX/10.8.2/Airport Express
    Question,
I have my AIrPort Express setup for my Mac Mini and I have dell computer that I want to share the wireless network. Is it possible to setup a wireless network with my mini and the pc using only the AirPort Express? Is the Airport Express a wireless router?
    Thanks,

If your Mac Mini is connecting to the Express using wireless, then this confirms that the device is working correctly.
The Express is a wireless router that can support up to 10 wireless connections, so your Dell computer should be able to connect assuming that its wireless card is working correctly, and the Dell indentifies the network and enters the correct wireless network password.
If you are having difficulty with the Dell PC connecting, this Windows troubleshooting document might help:
