Were are iweb templates stored?

Were are iweb templates stored? And how editable are they?

The iWeb templates are stored in XML files which can be edited, but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. Thankfully, starting with iWeb 1.1, Apple at the very least started including "blank" templates, which probably satisfied a lot of people wishing for the ultimate in flexibility. Suzanne Boben's work is very good, though...you should take a look.
One poor man's way of making a template page is to start with a blank template, customize it to your specifications, and then save it as a custom template in your site organizer window. By that, I mean keep it as a "page" in your site organizer, but don't display it in your navigation menu by unchecking the box "Include in navigation menu" in the Inspector Page tab. Keep this "template" clean. Whenever you want to make a real page out of this template, just select it and Control-click, then select "Duplicate" from the menu. THen you can add unique information to this copy and still keep the "template" clean and safe. See how this is the poor man's custom template?

  • Where are Word templates stored?

I cannot locate the Templates directory to store a new Word template. A search of the Mac shows the templates themselves, BUT does not indicate where they are located.

While this is very helpful because it does indicate where the templates should be stored, this was not my problem. I am very familiar with Word & other Office templates, creating them, using templates provided by others, and storing them. I have worked with Office on a Mac for about 5 years.
The templates are stored under /Users/username/Library/App... The problem turned out to be upgrading to Mavericks. During the upgrade, the ability to see "Library" directories was removed. Once I found that and how to turn it back on, I was able to easily store the template.
So thanks baltwo....I just wish Apple didn't arbitrarily turn things off with out supplying a long list of Installation Notes that explained how the things they changed affect other apps, etc.  Or just leave well enough alone. Sigh...

  • Where are iWeb pages stored/saved?

Hi all. I'm building my first website using iweb. there is one (of only 3 so far) page that is apparently corrupted. whenever i click on that page name in the sidebar, iweb crashes, so i can't delete it using the edit/delete page dialogue.
if i can find where my iweb pages are saved, i'll just go there and then drag the page to the trash....
    thanks

The pages do not exist until you publish them. The elements that comprise the pages are stored in the Domain.sites2 file/package that's located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
Are there any messages in the Console regarding iWeb that might indicate what's causing the problem.
Aside from the above you can try the following: create a new site and drag the two working pages to it. Then click on the first site's folder icon and see if you can delete the entire site. If that works then all you need to do is recreate that one page.
Also be sure to make a backup of the domain file frequently. Saves a lot of rebuilding in case something goes south in that domain file.

  • Where are My Templates stored?

Had to do a clean install and want to copy forward my Numbers and Pages templates from a Time Machine back-up.

Thanks for the reply. I need to clarify that I was running Yosemite prior to performing the clean install. I followed the file hierarchy you describe but there is no Library folder within my User folder, as I navigate through my Time Machine back-up. There is a Library folder inside the icon for my internal hard drive that contains an Application Support folder. Inside that folder, I have iWork '08 and iWork '09 sub-folders but no subfolder within for Numbers (and hence no Templates folder).
Could it be that these folders are hidden or in some other location or possibly the file hierarchy in Time Machine is different than in an active directory?

  • Where on my MAC are "PAGES" Templates Stored

This question has been asked before - but there was NEVER a good answer.
I created a new "Template" using PAGES. I want to find this "Template" that was supposedly stored in "My Templates" - which cannot be found using "FINDER". I need to capture a copy of this template to share with another Mac user.
Can anyone tell me how to find this "Template" and email it to my friend ... and then how to capture it on his Mac and install it in his PAGES TEMPLATES?

I reread the answers given to one of the other questions and I have to admit that I'm not ready to use 'Finder' to find the Templates in the way it was described. And, I'm also not ready to try to import it back into my friend's Mac.
I'll do what the other fellow suggested and save the Template as a Pages document and then share that with my friend and import it to his 'Templates' on his version of Pages because he may not have the same version that I do.
    I'm humbled by your answer.

  • Where  are iWeb files stored?

I can't seem to locate directory and folder where iWeb 'hides' its' pages.

  • WHERE ARE TEMPLATES STORED ON MAC

Where are Captivate templates stored on Macs?  I have an ongoing issue that still isn't resolved i.e. I can't access captivate after installing it and I'm wondering if this may be connected.  I cannot find any templates on my Mac for captivate, when I try and open a new project 'From Template' it simply opens the my documents folder and even though I've looked for a '.cptl' I cannot find any.
Am I being simple or should there be some file in this format somewhere on my hard drive if Captivate has installed properly
Any help on this and of course my original posting would be greatly appreciated
    Kind regards
    Martyn

I have not found any .cptl files installed on my Mac. I did create one that I had someone helping me use. Unfortunately, she keep saving it as a template and in doing such, create a bigger mess down the road.
The issues I had with using them created such 'challenges' i have steered away from using them. The potential for goodness was there, but it made more work for me in the long run.
The template made 'ghost' slides in our projects and were a pain to find to remove. I basically looked for images or video in the library that had duplicates and then it deleted it from the library. In doing such, it showed the template slide. I was then able to hit the delete key to remove it. And then 50 or so others. Doing this, it dropped the Captivate file down to a third of the size since I was able to finally get rid of all the hidden stuff.

  • Where templates stored for Pages 5.0?

Where are my Templates stored in Pages 5.0?  Previous versions of Pages stored Templates in Application Support/iWork/pages.   Not so for version 5!!   NBut where?
    Thanks.

Do not double click.. right click and then choose view package content
from my post in a similar thread
In ~/Library/Containers/ you will find a file called com.apple.Iwork.Pages
It's a container. If your right click and choose view package you will find a folder structure. Follow that structure to Data->Library/Application Support/User Templates and "voilá" there are your templates."

  • Confirmation Please - How are templates stored in XMLP?

    Hi All,
I have a very quick question about how different template formats are stored when they are uploaded into Template Manager.
I know RTF, XLS etc are all converted in XSL:FO when they are uploaded and they are stored in this way within template manager.
However I was under the impression the PDF templates are not converted in this way at all, and are infact always stored as PDF files.
Does anyone know if this is correct, or have I just completely fabricated this!! ;)
I am only asking this as I am building a training course for XMLP and want to make sure I have this fact correct before I quote it.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
    Many Thanks

Do you mean complete themes or Personas (lightweight themes) that only give the toolbar a background image?
    *https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/themes/
Installed complete themes are stored just like other extensions in the extensions folder in the Firefox profile folder.
If this is about Personas then only the images of the currently installed Persona are stored in the Firefox profile folder.<br />
The background images of the other installed Personas are downloaded once you select them.
The list of installed Personas is stored as one of the user set prefs in the prefs.js file in the Firefox Profile Folder in the lightweightThemes.usedThemes pref in JSON object format ({"id":"#","name":"xxx",...}).
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
The first entry of that pref is the currently used Persona.
The images of the currently selected Persona are stored in the lightweighttheme-header and lightweighttheme-footer files in the Firefox profile folder.<br />
So you would have to select all Personas one by one and make a backup copy of those two files.

  • Installing Iweb templates

    Hi,
I have Iweb on an Apple Ibook G4 1.33Ghz 512MB RAM laptop. It came with ILife installed and I'm guessing it's version 6. Can anyone please guide me as to how to install the Iweb templates please?
    Thanks Much,
    Napster16

You guessed wrong. The latest version is 3.0.4
You can see it in the iWeb menu > About iWeb. Or select iWeb and do Command-I (Info).
The iWeb themes are stored inside iWeb. To go there, copy the line below :
    /Applications/iWeb.app/Contents/Resources/Themes/
In the Finder, do Command-Shift-G and paste the line. Hit Return.
Right-click any theme and choose Show Package content. Open the Shared folder.
You can buy themes, or get them for free :
    http://www.iwebthemespark.com/Gifts.html
Or search for it : http://www.google.com/search?q=free+iWeb+themes
And here's a dated explanation how to make them yourself :

  • The cool little features in iWeb templates

    Hi all,
I was just wondering how to get the cool little add-ons that the iWeb templates have on my site?
For example, iWeb has scissors on one of the sites. Their are also others like.. doodles, post its, "hello, my name is" I know I can simply cut and paste, but I'm looking for additional add ons. is there a stock pile of these somewhere on the web or maybe on my mac?

You can add scrolling banner text, blinking text, mouse rollover, Fancy Zoom, Show and Hide text and many other enhancements.

  • Free iWeb Templates and other goodies?

    Hey, it's me again!
I was looking for FREE iWeb templates but I haven't been able to any find free ones or great ones.
Do you know where to get them?
I was also looking for other free goodies that are on iweb, such as little doodles and pieces of paper. You know what I mean?
Do you know where to get them?
    You're always appreciated :)

Always nice to hear from you.
As you, I did an extensive search (3 months ago) on Google and Ask, only to find out that there is a poor choice of great / free templates for iWeb '08.
There are 1 or 2 "user understandable" manuals on how to make your own templates, but I found it less time consuming to choose the "blank" template from a theme, adapt it myself with the tools provided in iWeb and then copy this "custom adapted" template.
I know this is not the answer you are looking for but it is the best I can provide.
Hopefully, someone else has found the gold somewhere...

  • Using iWeb Templates

I have found not only iWeb templates difficult to deal with, but also iPhotos.
Whenever I try to delete a certain saved area - a most important one - I cannot. If I select to utilize a photo template I cannot delete the photo area and when
I login to the website the slideshow puts up the template photos. This is very disturbing.
Also in iPhoto I cannot create a new folder or copy to an existing folder except the Library. If this is the case then why cannot I move photos to a newly created directory or folder after copying them to the library,
I am extremely new to MAC but totally competent with UNIX, LINUX, DOS, and all versions of WINDOWS, ( SADLY )!!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ron

    Ron:
Can you give us some information about what you're using: iPhoto an iWeb version, Quicktime version, the theme and page layout in iWeb, etc.
As far as dragging a photo into an album, where are you dragging from? If you're creating "folders" in the Source pane then yes, you can't drag a photo into them. Then will only take albums, slideshows, books, calendars, cards and other albums.
So instead of creating folders in the Source pane, create an album and put the photos into it. You can use folders to further organize the albums. But albums are the primary photo container (except for rolls of course).
What saved area are you referring to? If you've selected a photo page then yes, you can't delete the section that is used to house the photos for the slideshow. If you don't want that, create a new page with a different layout, Welcome, About me, or blank. Whichever works best for you. The blank lets you completely customize the page, background, etc.

    guys!
I'm not sure what has happened to your iWeb installation, but it sounds like a reinstall of iWeb might be in order. I don't think you would have accidentally deleted the templates on your own. Though, I have actually heard of people losing their templates after updates, especially from iWeb 1.1 to 1.1.1.
The straightforward, no-nonsense recommendation from me would be to do a reinstall of the iWeb application itself. You DO NOT need to reinstall the whole OS X system. If you have the iLife'06 disc, then use that. If iWeb came preinstalled on your computer, then use your OS X install/recovery disk. But don't select to reinstall the whole system...just select "Install Bundled Software Only" and then customize for iWeb only. This will reinstall iWeb 1.0 in all likelihood.
Then download the iWeb 1.1.1 update dmg directly from Apple and apply it immediately after installation of iWeb...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/iweb111.html
Hopefully after this process, your iWeb templates will reappear.
