Were do I put my iTunes files if I want 2 users to have access?
Hi,
I have a question. If I have 2 users on one computer and I want us both to be able to use the music, should I put my iTunes music on the Mac HD/Shared folder? I would guess we can both then access that folder from iTunes? Is this right, or am I way off here?
Thanks

error writing to file: C:\Program Files\iPod\Acknowledgements.rtf Verify that you have access to that directory
How do I go about doing this?*I'd be happy if I could reinstall iTunes 7.3. Does Apple make older versions of iTunes available for download? I haven't been able to find them.*

I have found a lot of frustration around this topic but no answers.
I have a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Version 10.7.4.
I have a video I made with iMovie. I want to burn it to a DVD for commercial DVD playback. It's as simple as that.
Things I've tried.
1. Using iMovie, I saved an HD version of the project to my desktop as a .MOV file. I know I can just burn that to a DVD. It won't play. I need a utility/program to put the necessary files on the DVD so a commercial namebrand DVD player will have what it needs.
2. I heard iDVD used to do this but it's not on my MacBook Pro (Lion OS). I've researched things like "What replaced iDVD" but found nothing but a but of complaining. (and I can see why).
3. I have looked for freeware. It all looks fishy.
Other options I'm looking into.
Use my Mac and connect a cable to the big TV screen. Play the movie using this screen as a secondary monitor. Problem - I have a dozen cables but none for this combo.
Move the .MOV file to a PC and play it using QuickTime. The cables I have will work for a PC to TV. Sad option.Have you tried... Burn 2.5.1 (FREE)

Give it a try, it may just serve as the temporary fix you are looking for. Make sure to download the 64-bit version.

The itunes library file cannot be saved. you do not have access privileges for this operation
Help, I just cant get rid of this error message:
The itunes library file cannot be saved. you do not have enough access privileges for this operation. The location of the iTunes Library file may be read-only or owned by a different user.
Default locations:
XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<login>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
Vista: C:\Users\<login>\Music\iTunes
Windows 7: C:\Users\My Music\itunes
Right click the iTunes folder and choose Properties
Look at the Attributes and see if Read-Only is checked.
Uncheck it and click OK, at the apply to all subfolders and files prompt, make sure all subfolders and files is selected and click OK.
If your iTunes library saves now you are done.
If it does not you will need to try on each directory above the iTunes directory.
Of course if you are not using the default locations you'll have to alter the path to the one you find in iTunes Edit->Preferences, Advanced tab. -
I have had an iPod Nano for several years and had an iTunes account. I no longer have access to the email address connected to that account. I just bought an iPhone4s and set up a new account with my current email address as user id. How can i get these 2 accounts combined so I can sync music from my iPod to my iPhone?
You cannot combine accounts at all.
Why did you create a new one?
Just change the e-mail address associated with the old one. -
Cannot sycn iTunes using my new laptop (home sharing is turned on). I no longer have access to the old HP desktop that iTunes was originally on. How can I get all the songs in iTunes on my iPhone?

Hi
My system is running Win 7 Professional 32 bit with 4gig RAM
I am experiencing a problem installing a piece of software - Laplink PC Mover - I need to migrate to my new machine.
The installer starts and the grinds to a halt with the error message:
"Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Laplink PCMover Professional\Visit Laplink.com.url. Verify that you have access to that directory"
I understand from Laplink Tech Support that this is a generic Windows Installer problem, and searching the web it seems to crop up a lot.
I have done a lot of searching, including this site.
I have tried the solutions I have found so far:
Run as Administrator [my user profile has administrator rights but I tried that anyway]
Run from the Administrator user account
Install in Safe Mode - Windows tells me the installer is not available in safe mode!!!
Un-registering and re-registering the installer via msiexec
Using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions
After all of this, I get the same result - the installer halts with the same message.
Can anybody help? I am desperate to avoid two days solid re-installing all my expensive software, finding product keys etc.Hi,
You can test in Clean Boot mode to avoid the software conflicts, in experience, some anti-virus program would lead this corruption.

Currently, one windows 7 pc is upstairs in common area and is used most frequently. Father's (me) windows 7 pc is downstairs and has 200gb music collection on internal hardrive. PCs are networked together. Wife and kids would like to buy and listen to itunes music upstairs. They would be ok sharing a music library and it would not need to be huge. They generally, but not exclusively don't care for my music. I am eclectic and like their music as well as mine and would like access to it to be able to easily put it on my devices for family trips, etc and update playlists.
Ideally, I would like to be able to keep all of the music together on the same hard drive for managament purposes (organizing, replacing a computer, etc). I don't trust them not to screw up my library (too many hours invovled in it already), so I'm assuming that they should have their own libraries. These they would access upstairs and would also sync their devices on the upstairs computer. I think both their libraries could be pointed to the harddrive on the downstairs computer where the music files currently reside. When they played music from the upstairs computer, it would play from the downstairs computer across the network. If they purchase music on the upstairs computer, I would like it to get downloaded on the downstairs computer with the other music files and not be downloaded onto the upstairs computer. I would like to be able to rely on my library and the music files not getting messed up. If friends and babysitters come over, they use the upstairs computer. We've had a disaster before when it was just one computer, but the music was on an external hard drive and my wife launched itunes without turning on the external hard drive first and fried my library.
The best I can come up with is their having their own libraries, on the upstairs computer, that reference all music files on the downstairs computer over the network. Am I on the right track here? How do I make sure their purchases go into and only into the music file downstairs? Is there some other better option of having a separate itunes on the upstairs computer and storing their music separately upstairs? How would I make sure to get copies of their music files from the upstairs computer also into my large music file downstairs, so I can keep one comprehensive collection of music all in one file. This seems like it shouldn't be so very difficult in the 21st century. I ought to be able to keep one comprehensive music file and one comprehensive library, even though my wife and child, who are less computer literate than me would like smaller, more personalized libraries and to purchase music on the convenient upstairs computer and even store their music on the upstairs computer accross a network. I the old days, you could just dupe some of the CDs. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife is tired of waiting on me to resolve.Anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

my daughter and i share the same i tunes account but want to have our own now. how can i set up a new account just for me and still move or transfer my existing apps, contacts etc?
Yes, with the credentials of the account that the media/content was purchased with.
Content is permanently tied to the account it is purchased with and cannot be merged, moved, or transferred to another account. -

I am trying to free up space on my pc and moving itunes files to external hard drive. I have followed instructions and believe I have file copied to new drive, but I am having trouble moving file to recycle bin as the instructions say. I am getting the following error message: cannot delete ituneshelper.dll:access denied, make sure disk is not full or write protected and file not in use. I know the file is not in use when trying to move. Any help would be most appreciated. I am on Windows XP.
Yes. And you should not have moved that folder. Put it back. To move your iTunes library move the folder from User's Music.

Removing the CORRECT iTunes files from a hard drive
Help! Does anyone have any idea how to remove the old iTunes files. I want to delete them to free up space on my computer. I tried to move my library from this computer to a laptop. See below. I went through all the steps to move my iTunes library using my iPod. It didn't work. So now I have 2 versions of my iTunes library. I am afraid to delete the wrong one. I think it's just great(not) that iTunes will tell one how to "do something" but no one at Apple can tell one me how to undo it. This is an excerpt from "How to use your Ipod to move music to a new computer:
Click OK. Note: Clicking OK will cause iTunes to copy all of your music files to another location on your computer. You will need to manually remove the files from their previous locations if you are concerned about space_. If your computer does not have enough hard-drive space this process will not work correctly. Please speak to your computer manufacturer or Microsoft for more information on how to obtain more space to perform this action.I downloaded audio files from a CD to an external
hard drive. Now I would like to put those files in
Itunes. I tried click and drag and cut and paste, no
luck.
What EXACTLY do you mean by you "downloaded" the files?
Did you transcode them into a form iTunes knows about? (e.g., MP3)
If you ripped them to MP3 or other compatible file format you should hust be able to drag and drop them onto the Music portion of your iTunes display. I do this hundreds of times a day - it's the logical equivalent of Add File or Add Folder to Library. -
I cannot share itune files on the same laptop. I have two users on my laptop using windows 7.file sharing is turned on,when i click on the itune startup screen-find music files, nothing happens. the instructions in the help section must be from an earlier version of itunes because the edit folder is not laid out like it describes.
Have you rendered both iOS 7 and iOS 8 (both of which will work on your iPhone 5) out of the question entirely without trying every possible configuration? The animations can be disabled entirely, if that's the problem. And if the whiter-brighter user interface is the problem, there's reverse-contrast modes that darken everything. You can expose accessibility controls to gain immediate access to these functions to toggle them on and off. I guess my point is you may have decided against upgrading the OS based on an early experience with iOS 7 when Apple has since made changes in later revisions to address some of the usability complaints.
Now, Apple's instructions for downloading older versions of apps is to do so from the Purchased list, not from the app's product page.
