Westell 327W as main wireless base and AE as WDS wired to Mac mini

I'm trying to get internet access to my non-airport-ready mini, without having my Westell 327W wireless router in the same room, and no cat5 cables stretched across my house.
Does anyone know if it's possible to use AE to pick up the 327W's signal and feed it wired to the mini? I've read about WDS mode in AE, but I've heard there may be issues with that Westell router. Are there any wireless routers that could definitely work with AE in the manner I've described?
FYI, I use Verizon DSL

Are there any wireless routers that could definitely work with AE in the manner I've described?
Another AirPort Express (AX) or an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).

Unless your HP printer is an AirPrint-ready device, just connecting it to the USB port of the AirPort Express base station will not make it so.
On the other hand, connecting a non-AirPrint printer to the base station's USB port it can be shared out by the base station's print server. Please see the following Apple Support article for details.

why is my mac so slow i have cleansed and cleaned it is a 2010 mac mini i5 but it runs like a 20 year old pc i have only had it for a few months and it was straight out of the box

I'm thinking that you have a > Mac mini (Mid 2011) - Technical Specifications because the 2010 model's only have Core 2 Duo processors and the 2011 had the first i5 processor.
2 GB of RAM is the minimum requirement for Mountain Lion, but it's hardly enough to really enjoy doing anything else.
see > Memory and Free Installation Guides for Apple Mac Mini
Plus I don't have any problems running Mountain Lion and a load of App's on my 2010 Mac Mini with 8GB of RAM.

  • HT5628 Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?

Is it possible to format entire hard disk and install windows 8 only in mac mini?

You can, but it's not recommended. If you are going to use Windows all the time, at least give some GBs to OS X, because you will need it to install firmware updates.
Use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition. You can find it in /Applications/Utilities. Then, follow Apple's steps to install Windows 8 > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.8.pdf You must use a 64-bit version, and note that not all Mac minis support Windows 8. Check if yours is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Boot Camp Assistant will ask you to download the Windows support software onto a USB drive. You will need to install it in Windows, so it's very important to download it. If not, you will have problems in Windows.
If your Mac doesn't support Windows 8, install the Windows version the site gives you

  • IPad and pc laptop downloads @ 24 mbps, Mac mini downloads @ 6  mbps. What the problem?

All 3 devices in same location, why is the Mac mini so slow on download from wireless network?

I too was experiencing very slow surfin with my intl mac mini.
I have had it for 4 days now. My windows desktop was running ok and my PB 12" was okay too but I did find it running abit slow tho.
The mini was so slow that it did begin to annoy me. I was pretty sure is wasn't the mini's fault. I went out today with the intentions of picking up some memory but when I got to the counter the sales guy new about Mac's too and we chatted abit and he agreed it was probably the internet connection or the 6 month old router. So to isolate it, I should connect the mini by wire to see if there is a difference. The memory can wait for now.
While out shopping, I decided to pick up an indoor antenna for my Dlink router. The sales guy said it should help. I figured I'd try it.
I know my connection at home has been up and down, meaning fast to slow to annoying slow. When I got home, I hooked up the antenna and I'm just flying along! We'll see later this evening if things slow down.
The gadget I got is made by DLink, a Omni-Directional 7 dBi, High-Gain indoor Antenna. Came with a SMA to TNS adapter to use on other routers. Also came with an extension cable and mounting screws. The bottom of the base has magnets on it.
I used the extension cable. Kinda neat!
I'll have to get my daughter to check her PC upstairs as she was complaining about the slowness.....hopefully there is improvmement.
If the improvment doesn't stay the same, my next plan is to move the cable modem and wireless router back to my desk area and run a cable under the carpet to hook up both the Windows PC and Mini by wire. Hubby won't notice!! LOL
Well we'll see how it goes later this evening.
    Cheers!

  • Running Photoshop CS4 (and probably CS5) on the 2010 Mac Mini

I'm looking to buy the new Mac Mini 2010 for use in my work as digital graphics designer. I already considered the base iMac but since I already have a good LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse, all I really need is a good desktop.
I'd like to know if the new setup can handle the load of a 600ppi multi-layered file. I also do digital coloring for comic books in Painter 11 so I'd also like to know if the machine can handle such a load.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.

It can, but a huge thing is how much RAM you have. You will want to get 8 GB if you are dealing with huge files like that. Even with CS5 there is very little real GPU acceleration in anything other then Premiere, so having a midlevel GPU won't really hurt you. The 2nd biggest bottleneck is the HDD. The mini has a 5,400 RPM HDD so loading files will be slower then an iMac with a 7,200 RPM HD. You can upgrade the Mini's HDD to something faster but the iMac being a 3.5" drive vs the 2.5" in the mini will be faster even if both machines have a 7,200 RPM HD. Given all of this if I were you I'd get a mid/high end iMac and if you would rather use your current KB/mouse then sell the new wireless ones that come with the iMac to recoup some of the cost difference. Then hook up your current display as a 2nd. Its so nice to have 2+ displays on a system.
You will spend $1350 or so on a Mini configured this way, and for $1500 you get double the HDD space, faster drive, faster CPU, faster GPU, KB/mouse you can sell, monitor so why not get the iMac. After selling the KB/mouse you will be almost identical price.

  • Apple TV won't load or play movies from my MBP library (through both airplay and homesharing), but will from my mac mini. Help!

I have been using my apple TV seamlessly with all my apple products (Mac Mini, iphone, MBP, ipad). Everything worked perfectly until recently (I noticed the issue about 3 weeks ago), when the apple TV won't load and play any movies from my iTunes library located on my MBP. The Library loads, and I can see everything, but as soon as I press play, the spinning load icon appears and doesn't stop. Same when I play movie from itunes directly and send it via airplay. Desktop mirroring no problem.
I have checked, and films are being played perfectly from my other devices, as does airplay and mirroring

    Hello Tourneurm,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.

Section 8 seems to be most applicable.
    8. Cannot access my library when my computer is asleep
For Apple TV to access your library while the host computer is asleep, "Wake for network access" must be turned on.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and select (enable) the "Wake for network access" option.
In addition, the network that the host computer and the Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) is connected to must support Wake on Demand feature. This works by partnering with a service running on your AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule called Bonjour Sleep Proxy.

  • Wired (Ethernet) Mac Mini file sharing with wireless Windows 7 PC

    Hi Guys,
I'm new to the Mac experience having just bought a Mac Mini so be gentle please. I have the Mini connected to my router & internet the via Cat5 Ethernet cable. I also have a Dell Notebook running Windows 7 connecting wirelessly to that router. How do I get these 2 power-houses of the home computer industry to share files?

Well with 10.6 and windows file sharing follow these steps:
    1. First in windows 7 go to Control Panel. Then in the File sharing panel don't do a Home Group because this is for Windows 7 networks ONLY!. Use the Advanced file sharing to share files.
    2. While still on Windows 7 go to Control Panel-System and get the workgroup name or change it to you want. Also while still in 7 click on the start button in the search box type: cmd . The command line will come up and on the first line type: ipconfig /all . Then write down the Windows 7 IP address (you will need to know this info).
    3. Now in 10.6.x open System Preferences->Network pane, Advanced button. In the drop-down click on the WINS tab and put in the name of the Workgroup name and at the bottom of the pane hit the + button and add the IP address of the Windows 7 machine.
    4. Now click on OS X desktop and click on the Go menu name. In the drop-down select "Connect to Server" . When the panel opens up put in your Windows 7 IP address and connect. The keyboard shortcut for the Connect to Server is the Command key+k. Then log in the Windows 7 with the Windows 7 username and password.
    Any questions?
One more thing: read the how to File Sharing: Snow Leopard And Windows 7.

  • Adding RAM and making room/trying to upgrade Mac Mini

I have a 2007 Mac Mini on Tiger and wanted to upgrade to Snow Leopard but even taking the machine down to base with erase and install, it still says the RAM is not enough. Where and how can RAM be added?

your mini has 1GB of memory, with maximum 2GB. SL requires minimum 2GB ram.
If you decide to add ram, use good reputation supplier like Crucial or OWC. Be sure to buy compatible ram.
In OWC sites you find the way how to do it.

  • Wireless keyboard does not auto setup with a mac mini

I have just bought a mac mini and am trying to set it up, the only keyboard I have is the apple wireless keyboard. I have switched the Mac on and it finds the "magictrack pad" but does not seem to find the key board. The keyboard light flashes for the the 3 minutes looking for something to pair with - I have managed to pair it with my iPad (and remove the pairing - afterwards) but it does not auto-pair with the "new" Mac. The problem is that I cannot go any further (to allow me to complete the full setup procedure) without filling in the information that is required and I cannot fill in the information required without a keyboard. I do not have a USB (or any other keyboard) so I seem to be a little stuck. - Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Is there any way of connecting a PC laptop to the Mac Mini and use the keyboard on the PC?

Not sure what your process was but try this.
Make sure the Mini is off. Hold down the button
on the keyboard to make sure it is off.   Next
start the Mini and as soon as you hear the
start up chime, press the power button on the
keyboard.  Be sure not to press any other keys.
For what ever reason, timing is critical with the
keyboard pairing at boot time.  This is only an
issue when doing things that require a keyboard
at boot.  Once paired, it connects fine when normally
    booting.

  • What RAM and SSDs will go in a Mac Mini? ...

Getting ready to snag a new Mac Mini after the announcement tomorrow.
Assuming the new ones accept the same RAM and HDs and the existing ones ...
What kinds/sizes of RAM go in the Mini?
What kind of SSD specs will fit in the Mini?
    Thanks very much in advance,

That is just what is in the rumor mill.  Would really
be suprised to see the Mini updated before the iMacs.
Not the usual path.  But perhaps an iMac refresh will
be announced as well.  Need to wait and see what
    really is going to happen.
If a refresh is announced, it could be a while before
    it is available.
As a note, the recently updated Macbook Pros use
DDR3 1600 RAM where the previous versions and
the current Minis use DDR3 1333.  So, one would
suspect that a new Mini or iMac would be using the
    faster RAM.
