Westell 7500

I see a few people ask, but no answer that works.  How the heck do you change the time and date on the thing?  I log into the router, and it is exactly two hours behind the time on my computer.  I have checked and unchecked the Daylight savings time feature. no change
I checked and uncheked the automatic time update setting.  No change.  I added the Local NYC time server to the list.  no change.
The Time Zone line is blank and cannot be edited.
This is getting very frustrating.  Any help is appreciated.

Have you already tried holding the reset pin hold for ~ 15 seconds?
Note you will lose any custom setting if you do this. Also please post what version of Firmware you are running (do not update it yourself it should happen automatically).

  • How to use a Westell 7500 as a router-switch ?

I have an extra Verizon Westell 7500 DSL modem router (A90-750015-07). How do I turn it into a router-switch that will take an ethernet (not DSL) network feed (with internet access) and distribute it among a few devices and put those devices into some kind of sub-network so they see each other? I'm not using technical terms here - please teach me.
My wife is going to rent a small temporary office that provides internet access via a socket in the wall. Let's assume it's a typical RJ-45 ethernet socket. The internet speed might actually be pretty good - maybe 30Mbs down and very fast up. The total internet capacity is shared with other temporary offices in the facility, but let's assume we'll have enough for our needs.
If the only thing I bring is a single computer, I could use a J-45 ethernet cable to plug its network card directly into this socket and be done. But I'll be bringing at least two computers and a small printer/scanner. Both computers will need to share the internet access, and both computers and the printer/scanner will need to "see" each other. (Just like at home.)
So, if I plug the extra Westell 7500 into the network wall socket and then my PCs and printer into the Westell, I should get what I need here, yes? How do I do this exactly, step-by-step?
I have experimented at home and have maybe 10% success. At home, I don't have an ethernet socket in the wall, but I do have my current (not Westell) modem-router, and it has an unused LAN socket, which I am pretending is the office's ethernet socket. I connected a test computer to the Westell 7500 and logged onto the Westell 7500's embedded server (192.168.1.1), changed its VersaPort from "LAN ethernet port" to "WAN uplink port", connected the newer modem-router's unused LAN socket to the Westell 7500's E1/Uplink socket with a J45 cable, went to the Westell 7500's "Advanced" page and ran "Detect WAN Configuration". That changed the Westell 7500's "WAN uplink port Settings Protocal" from PPPoE to Routed IP. The Westell 7500 now also says its "Broadband Connection Type" is "Routed Bridge".
The test computer connected to the Westell 7500 shows it is connected to the Westell 7500, but it cannot connect all the way through to the internet. At the start, the newer modem-router shows the Westell is connected to it, and the newer modem-router has given the Westell a DHCP address of 192.168.1.5. But after a few minutes, the newer modem-router doesn't show the Westell any more. If I re-run Detect WAN Configuration on the Westell 7500, it says "Automatic Protocol Detecion is in progress" but then "DHCP server was found ... PPPoE server not found", and then the newer modem-router shows the Westell 7500 again as 192.168.1.5. But the test computer does not have internet access.
What exactly should I do with the additional settings in the Westell 7500 to make this work?
If there's a great web site to explain this to me, please point me there.
    Thanks.

  • Problems with Westell 7500 Gateway

Hi guys I have a problem with a westell 7500 series wireless gateway. Having recently upgraded to the gateway from an old 6100 series modem, I am having some issues keeping computers synced with the gateway. Every time I restart my computer connected to the ethernet portion of the gateway, I must re-enter my default gateway on my computer's ipv4 settings. I have dedicated ip's set up for every computer on the network and all of them have problems recognizing the gateway. Even setting the ipv4 to autodetect the settings, it locks me out of the internet saying it is a public network. I have verified all my settings in the gateway and it is set up for private connections only. Any help that someone could give would be appreciated. Thanks

When you are online, is an IP Address on computer the same IP Address that is on http://www.whatismyip.com/ ?

  • Westell 7500 Traffic Shaping

    Kage,
You can mess with the QoS settings in the Advanced section of your Westell 7500.  You can prioritize the traffic based on IP so that you can maintain a certain amount of bandwidth at all times.

  • No Connectivity on line - rebooting Westell 7500 does not help

    Hi All,
We've been having sync issues for well over 2 weeks now. Sometimes hard rebooting the Westell 7500 (Model:A90-750015-07 - firmware ver: 5.01.00.02) will allow the line to stay up for a day or so.
But since yesterday, nothing has helped. The line will come up and stay up for maybe 5-10minutes and then drop again.
Calling the VZ support line is very frustrating since the "robot" menus do not help to get us to actual support personnel. The one time we got past the automated system, the lady said we had reached the wrong dept. and dropped us back to the robot
I am working from home, so all of this is total time and monely loss. Currently a different internet connection helped to manage post this.
Anyway, here are some "all event" logs we could collect today - (we are in an apartment and do not have access to any NID).

  • NAT Type - Xbox - Westell 7500

    Hello,
I have the Westell 7500(750045) modem/router.  I have 2 Xbox's that I would like to open that NAT for.  Those 2 xbox's are on the same network.  It will let me port forward to one xbox, but I am having trouble for the second one.
What I've read, I'm supposed to enable UPnP since I am using more than 1 xbox - however I have tried that, and it doesn't seem to work.  I've tried it many times, many different ways, and it never seems to work.
I don't know any more ways to try this, seeing that I've failed on every solution I try.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Decker

  • How can I extend the range of my WESTELL 7500? Please help.

I installed a security camera outsite of my house and unfortunately the modem/router is on the opposite end. The camera would connect on and off as opposed to on all the time when it was mounted inside.
I am researching around and it looks like I can get an extender? Are there certain ones to look for in terms of compatibility issues?
Or can I upgrade the modem/router? The Westell 7500 was provided by Verizon at start of service.
    Thanks in advance.

If you want a wireless extender, it must support 802.11b and 802.11g.

  • Westel 7500 DSL Router/Modem: Cannot connect to PPPOE server

Westel 7500 DSL Router/Modem: Cannot connect to PPPOE server
My DSL connection periodically slows down to a crawl [less than 56kbps actual transfer rate].
When I reset my DSL Modem it takes 30 MINUTES to 4 HOURS to reconnect.
The Main status screen shows DSL connected at 1700/448 kbps.
Advanced status WAN Status shows DSL connected but PPPOE not connected.
I cannot ping the ISP router or the DNS Server.

Margin (dB) - Signal to noise margin. 6 is pretty bad possibly unusable at times, 20 is very good. You normally want 12dB or better IIRC from back in my DSL days. The higher the number, the better to a point.
Line Attenuation - Measure the amount the signal has degraded. Below 20dB is excellent, above 50 is poor, fill in the dots for anything in between.
    Hmm...
#1 Did you try connecting your modem directly to the NID?
    Points to: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1317
#2 If not, please do and retest those margins and Line Attenuation.

  • DSL - Westell 7500 Gateway - PLEASE HELP!

I recently moved my DSL service from one house to another and had my service upgraded from 1 to 3 mbps. I ordered a new modem (Westell 7500 Gateway) as well. I am unable to connect to the internet. I connected the new modem, the lights are all correct but I am unable to connect to the internet at all. Tech support has been no help at all. Now, when I go back to the older modem, I cannot connect with that one either. Tech support had me do a ip config/release several times but nothing works. Please help.

Since you just told me you originally had the wrong phone number I'm thinking you might be hooked up to the wrong split bank at the Verizon Office. Give them a call and have them check out out your line. Ask if they can send a ticket to the frame to co-op test at the split bank.

  • Turning off the wireless aspect of the westell 7500

I have a westell 7500 modem/router. I have been using it for wireless connection for the past year. I have recently found out that the connection using  WEP and even the WPA security codes are not safe or rather those codes are easy to crack. I would now like to connect to my computer using only a hardline connection. My question is about the westell 7500 modem/router.  Is there a way to disable the wireless signal so it is not active while still using the hardline connection to the modem ? Or do I need to buy a different modem altogether without wireless capabilities?
    Thank you for your help.

I am not sure, but I believe so.
#1 In the router go to Wireless Setup.
#2 Check Disable Wireless and press Apply.

  • Can I use Airport Extreme with a westell 7500

I have Verizon DSL with a Westell 7500.  Can I connect the Airport Exreme as the router and
use the 7500 as a modem only?

When you configure the Westell device for simple bridge mode operation, it will no longer provide the PPPoE connection credentials, so you will need to setup the PPPoE connection on the AirPort Extreme.
    AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
    Click the Internet icon
    Click the Internet Connection tab
    Connect Using = PPPoE
Enter your ISP user name...(probably your email address).... and password
Leave the Service Area name completely blank
    Connection = Always On
    Disconnet if Idle= Never
    Update to save settings
    Power down the entire network
    Wait a moment or two
Start the modem first, let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
Continue starting devices one at a time about a minutes apart until everything is powered back up

  • Westel 7500 / fortigate / multiple IP

Recently activated business dsl with verizon, purchased 5 ip addresses. Verizon provided westel 7500 modem. Replaced old Westel 2200 with new 7500. I have a fortigate router in place and configured to provide all protection, screening, routing that our company requires. Connection through the fortigate, through the old 2200, to internet worked flawlessly for past 4 years. Dsl circuit has always been through verizon, but through a second party ISP. Had ethic issues with old ISP and switched to Verizon as ISP, they offered multiple IP addresses, I accepted,  hence the new 7500 was sent to replace my 2200. With westel tech support step by step help, set 7500 to bridge mode. With pc testing internet connectivity through fortigate, through 7500, could never connect to internet. Switched back to old 2200, no problem except could only handle 1 ip address. Tech support attempted on 5 occasions to resolve, no luck. Tech folks ranged from somewhat incompetent ( probably perfectly suited to help a residential customer with a standard tech issue) to seemingly knowledgeable .....but were ultimately unable to get the 7500 to function in front of fortigate. Last attempt tech said I should have a 6110, straight bridge modem, so I swapped out the 7500 for a 6110. She failed to mention that the 6110 could only handle 1 ip address. Yikes!!! I'm pulling my hair out, anybody have any input on this. I simply can't be the only business owner who wants to use multiple IP's on a single circuit from verizon and use my own firewall router. Help please if you have any ideas.

  • Westell 7500 Makes My Head Want to Explode

I posted on here before about a problem I was having with my Westell 7500 modem/router always dropping its connection at night. This is the first time I have been able to get on here for a while (for one reason or another) so I thought I would re-do my post and see if I can fix this one way or another.
    My problem is this:
At night -- starting at various times -- my internet connection will constantly drop. And by constant, I mean as often as every 10 seconds. Most of the time when my connection drops it will not come back on its own, requiring me to shut the modem off for 30 seconds then restart it.
I have had DSL for a couple years and have had this problem almost the whole time. The strange part is that for seven months my connection was flawless. It never dropped. Ever.
I have tried calling Verizon's customer support, but we all know how worthless they are. They had me do something to reset the gateway that they obviously got off of some flip chart checklist. It did nothing. It seems my only options are trying to see if one of you will be able to help me out, calling Verizon and upgrading to a different, more expensive, service (which is probably what they want you to do anyway), or dropping Verizon all together and moving on to something else. Cable, perhaps.
So, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you login into your modem and go to Advanced/Advanced Status/System Logging when your connection is down and post it here then we can try to see if there is anything pointing toward your problem.

  • Laptop can't access Internet through Westell 7500 router

My son came home from college with a laptop that is running Tiger 10.4.10. If he takes his laptop to the local library and uses the wireless network there, he can access the Internet. But, his laptop does not appear to work with our Westell 7500 router. He is getting an error message that says "There was an error in joining the airport network..."
The router works fine with our 10.5.2 (Leopard) iMac and it also works with PC laptops.
I checked System Preferences-Network- Show - Airport, under the TCP/IP settings. The IP address is set to 192.168.1.1, which is the address of our gateway. The router and DNS server fields are blank. The iPv4 field is set to configure manually.
I have tried putting the IP address into both the router and DNS server fields but this does not work.
I have searched the Discussions but there does not appear to be anyone with this problem who has this type of router. Does anyone know what the settings should be for the laptop and router to communicate?

It won't work if you try to give it the same ip as the router.

The easiest way is to get the settings from the iMac and put the same settings into the laptop. At least, that is a good start. How is your router configured? It is quite unusual to use "configure manually". Are you sure this is correct? If you're not sure, try "Using DHCP" instead. Leave everything else blank. See if that works.
It isn't really a question of which particular router but more of how the router is configured. That's why looking at the iMac which does work with your set up may be a good place to start.
Try those two strategies. If that doesn't work, let me know what settings the iMac is using.

  • Range extender compatable with Westell 7500

I want to extend my DSL wireless to my garage/shop, about 150 feet from the house where my Westell 7500 router is located.  In doing a search I saw that a Verizon rep recommended the Linksys Range Expander, WRE54G.  However, there was no mention of the wireless router being used.  Is that expander compatable with the Westell 7500 or is there another alternative that will work so I can use my laptop in the shop?

Just spoke with Linksys tech support and they said 'no' to a G range extender with an N network. (I have WRT150N router and WUSB300 adapter.) Wanted to boost the signal, but they said the router already has a built-in range extender and the WRE54G wouldn't help.
