Western Digital Duo and TM locking up.

I have a Western Digital Duo.  I use it as a network storage, backup, and itunes library.  When I access itunes, all future timed TM backups are rejected with the message that the disk is in use even if I am out of itunes.  I have to reset the storage device (rebooting does not work) by powering off to clear the error.  Any ides how to get itunes cleared out of memory so that the backup will continue?

  • What is the problem with Western Digital HDD and OS X.9?

I received an email from Western Digital saying that OS X.9 could cause my files on my WD drives to be erased and to unplug all my WD drives until a fix is done. Is this a real problem and if so when will Apple get the fix out. I have joibs I have to get out to clients and this is a major problem for me.

Western Digital has found that their applications have got serious compatibility problems with OS X Mavericks, and they have to be updated to make them compatible with Mavericks.
Until then, keep the OS X version you have got. This is a Western Digital problem and this is why your main computer shouldn't be upgraded just after the release of a new Mac OS X version

  • Western Digital Passport and itunes.

I recently got a Western Digital Passport external hard drive in order to put my itunes music onto it, so it would not take up so much space on my macbook. I found it relatively easy to move all my files the first time, but then as soon as I downloaded something from the itunes store, it put it onto my computer. Since the artist was the same as some music I already had, it did not recognize that I did not already have it, so I could not simply move the new music onto the Passport.
I was wondering if there was some kind of sync feature for the Passport to macs, because I know there is for windows. All I want is for my music to continually go to my Passport, and not take up space on my laptop.
    Thanks!

If the WD drive isn't plugged in, iTunes doesn't know where your library is, and hence can't properly add the new music files where they should go. The passport MUST be plugged in to the mac before you start iTunes or a new library will be created and your new music files will go in to THAT library.
The simple way to correct this is to take the files you added that did not go where you wanted them and put them on your desktop from the folder they are residing in (if you're not sure where they are, just click 'Get Info' on the tracks in iTunes and it will tell you where the real files are). From there, close iTunes and plug in your WD drive.
Reopen iTunes now and make sure in your preferences that the music folder on the WD drive is selected as your music library location. Then make sure 'Copy files to iTunes Music Folder' is checked. Now drag your music files on your desktop in to the iTunes window. iTunes will then copy those files over to the WD drive music folder and add them to the iTunes database.

  • Interactive Form - digital signature and fields locked

    Hi everyone,
Lets say we have 2 input fields in the Interactive Form.
In addition, we have a digital signature field that locks.
How can I specify which fields I want to lock ?
    Thanks
    Regards.

    Hi David,
Lets say you have a digital signature field. What you could do is on the click event of the Signature field, you could Lock the 2 input fields.
Say Text1 & Text2 (Names of the Inputfields respectively) by using the following Commands.
    Text1.access = "readOnly";
    Text2.access = "readOnly";
Note : Before adding the code set the Language to "Java Script".

  • Format a Western Digital Elements for MAC and PC

I have a new Western Digital Elements and I need to format it for Mac and PC. I have a G-Tech drive (which has content from an FCP edit) and I need to make a duplicate of the content onto the Western Digital so that the client who has a PC can open the files.
Any help? I tried searching in Disk Utility for FAT-32 but couldn't find it and didn't want to do something to harm the drive.
    Thanks!

I have numerous external drives all formatted as FAT 32 on the Mac which transfer Quicktime back and forth between Windows and Mac machines.
As an additional note, check that the CODEC used for these files is available on the PC or they wont play.
We encode our client previews as H264 for playback only.
    Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Partition >
in volume scheme select 1 partition
    format: MS DOS FAT
    options > Master Boot Record
apply and it will partition and format the drive

  • Time machine backup fails; error creating folder. Western Digital drive requires password which is perhaps/likely the issue. I can't eliminate the password/encryption.

Time Machine backup fails on new WD external drive (My Passport Studio); error creating folder (after several hours of Time Machine apparently working).
Background: I purchased a Western Digital drive from an Apple Store to use for Time Machine backup.  I followed the Western Digital instructions that came with the drive for Mac. I didn't get the Time Machine prompt which the instructions indicated I would receive--namely to select whether I want to encrypt my Time Macine backups. (I already have a Time Machine backup I use at another location, which is perhaps why I didn't receive a prompt.)
I decided to install the Western Digital utilities and security software that comes on the disk--with a view to potentially encrypting the disk (since I still wanted to have an encrypted backup since I was mobile). I forgot that (from experience 2-years previous) that I shouldn't install Western Digital software because it just makes life really complicated.
I tried several times to do a Time Machine backup with failures each time (error creating the backup folder). I tried to get help from WD but I don't think the technicians were following what my issue was. Potentially I was not helpful in explaining it. I deleted the WD applications from my system after the first contact with WD. However the problem persisted--I still had an encrypted hard drive. After three phone sessions with three different WD techs I still could not get a solution. (By the second call I was not at all interested in having an encrypted drive--I just wanted to format and restore the drive to an unencrypted state so that I could have SOME kind of Time Machine backup.)
I still don't have a solution--either to get Time Machine working with the WD encryption/password on the drive, or to remove the encryption so I can backup. Right now my options are to return the drive to the Apple Store -- or get a return authorization from WD. Seems crazy since the drive is fine and I have the working password.

Never install "helpful software" provided by WD and Seagate (or any HD mfg.)
All such stuff is fluff and nonsense that interferes with normal HD operation.
Always when you buy a new HD, format it for Mac and then use it to TM backup or clone a HD, or archive data.
Less is more on HD new out of box.  A "blank brick", no fluff and cotton candy software

  • Problems with the WD2GO app from Western Digital

I have a Western Digital Mybooklive and have downloaded the WDPhoto and WD2Go apps.
The WDPhto app works perfectly, however the WD2Go app doesnt.
I have been in discusson with WD and they have put forward numerous suggestions but I have found nothing that works.
They belive the proble is with the Ipad, although I am not convinced.
When I launch the app, I get a Mybooklive icon to sekect.
After selecting the mybooklive I can see all my public shares.
If I click on one I see the next level in the folder structure but after this when I click on a folder the Ipad gives the busy circle and eventaually I get the message
    "Device Offline".
If I the come out of the app and go back in I get the "Device offline " message when I click on the Mybooklive icon.
I can get access to the Mybooklive from my andcroid phone both within my own wifi neetwork and using 3G.
So I know that port forwarding on the Mybooklive is working properly as the android phone and router and mybooklive all talk to each other.
Has anyone got a reason why the Ipad has these issues.

I had exactely the same problems you have described! No useful help from WD assistance but the problem is quite well known between the users and not so rare.
I have found the solution of my problems following the suggestions you can find here http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-Mobile-Apps/WD-2Go-App-iPad-amp-iPhone/m-p/538735# M2125
    Now everything is OK!
    Bye

  • Finder does not see my Western Digital Hard drive?

I have been using a Western digital to back my macbook, but since upgrading to OS X 9 maverick it is no longer visible in the finder window?
I've used the Western digital utility and the drive passes all tests and it sees it?
    updated the driver
view hard drives is turned on in preferences
Why isn't the macbook seeing it to do a backup?

Disregard, I guess it takes a while? It is finally there.

  • Western Digital woes... please help!

I have been doing research for the past hour on various postings, but I can't seem to find an answer or solution.
I am a filmmaker/editor, with my documentary film on 2 Western Digital 750 gig Pro Edition drives. Last night, as I passed by my iMac, I noticed there was a "Disk Cannot Be Read" error message that popped up on the screen. The one Western Digital drive that I had plugged in was no longer mounted. The message instructed me to "ignore" "eject" or "initialize." I clicked on initialize, it brought me to disk utility, I tried to run repair disk, and I got all crazy kinds of error messages. So, I tried this with the other Western Digital drive, and got the same message. And then I started to freak out.
I tried to mount the disks on my G4 PowerBook, but-- same thing. If I tried to connect via USB 2.0 (there's no regular USB on these drives), I could find the drives in Disk Utility, but they'd be grayed out, so I couldn't click on them.
To add more of a headache, I purchased a 1TB Western Digital Studio Edition Drive to use as a Time Machine backup, about a month ago. I haven't opened the box yet because I've been busy, but now I'm reading all these posts saying that people are having a problem with this model, as well. I purchased it from MicroCenter, which states that it has to be returned within 30 days. Today is 11/23, and I bought the drive on 10/19. Of COURSE!!
Anyway, is there ANY solution to this?? My drives have never been dropped or subjected to a power outage. I'm pretty neurotic about always safely ejecting the drives, so I know that's not a problem. I just want to have my hard drives back, and most of all-- my film footage!!
Any advice/tips would be GREATLY appreciated!!
    Nicole

    Hi Nerowolfe,
Thanks for your quick response. The drives are indeed Firewire 800/400 drives, but they also have USB 2.0 on there. I always use Firewire 800 to transfer data, but in reading other people's postings about Western Digital drive issues, they suggested that the only way to "read" the drive after receiving one of these error messages is to connect through the USB port, rather than FireWire. My disk was still not mounted when I tried USB, but it was able to see it on Disk Utility, where I then performed "repair disk" and then received the disk error message.
What I'd like is for there to be some kind of software update on Western Digital to fix this-- they seem to have made an update for the Studio edition (that's what my 1TB is), but not for the Pro Editions (what I have), and that's where all of my media, unfortunately, is stored.

  • HT6114 western digital My Net n900 print share not supported by 10.9.2 ? how do I go back?

I upgraged to OS 10.9.2 now print share won't work, they say it is compatible with 10.8 not 10.9
    how do I un-do 10.9?

    Thanks for the reply.
    Here's their reply:
    Thank you for your reply.
After reviewing the error message displayed, the reason for the error message is due to a incompatibility between the WD Print share software and Mac latest OS installment.
The WD Print share software is currently support only up to Mac OSx 10.8, for which on Mac 10.9 it would create some issues as the software is not supported.
If you have any further questions, please reply to this email and we will be happy to assist you further.
    Sincerely,
Eduardo

  • OS X MAVERICKS 10.9.1, Late 2013 iMac i7 and Western Digital 4TB  My Book Live Duo External Drive

How do I properly configure the external hard drive and Time Machine (TM) to be sure that TM backup are performed properly and the backups can be used to either restore my iMac fully or certain files can be restored in the future, if required.
I would like to know the drivers and software I need to install on the iMac to support the external hard drive, step by step instructions for correctly setting up the external drive would be useful.  Should I use the external drive as RAID 0 ( the drive is actually two-2TB drives in a case), or use its 4TB capacity without RAID?
Additionally, is there a way to test the restoration of files from the external drive to the iMac.  I do not want to render the iMac to an unusable state.

Be aware that Western Digital drives have had issues with Mavericks. http://wd-mavericks-data-loss.com/#!
I would format using Apple's Disk Utility rather than the drive software.

I'm not sure if this is the right communities to ask but there go...
Just bought a Western Digital ThunderBolt Duo 8TB , the problem is...i cant seems to connect it to 2 mac book pro at the same time. Contacted WD support, they told me it's not possible...but apple support told me it can be done in a unique way ?!?!?!?
Something that requires MBPR B to reboot and push the T button to direct it to MBPR A which is connected to the thunderbolt storage , its like so confusing...is there any guide somewhere here ??
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I had a 640GB HDD in my Early 2008 Macbook and it was just too much it would always freeze up the computer a bit for only a few seconds but ya. Then I realized that it was the size of the HDD that was causing it since the Early 2008 Macbook models can only handle a MAX od 500GB while the Early 2008 Macbook Pros could have a MAX of 640GB (Lucked out there!) lol But ya the Early 2008 Mocbooks can only handle a MAX HDD size of 500GB and that's it!! lol

I hope that someone is able to help in this matter , as i have to restore 12000 photos !

    Hallo  Kieth ,
I am not quite ready to restore the full iphoto library , as I have days of work re - imputting titles, descriptions and enhancement . I hope that your suggestion works , as I use my Macbook basically to work with digital photography. Through time , I will need to delete my library to recover more disc space and I would hate to have to spend more time re - imputting titles and descriptions all over again .
Thanks for your interest and advice.

  • I have a 250GB western digital external hard drive for my time machine backups. if i just want to backup and recover my photos and movies how do i do that with time machine?

I have a 250GB western digital external hard drive for my time machine backups. I did not download the software that came with the external HD. If I only want to backup my photos and movies from my Macbook how do I do that in Tme Machine with my external HD?

Format the HDD in Disk Utility>Erase to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and the open System Preferences>Time Machine and set up the external disk as the Time Machine HDD.  Then look at the Options, and exclude what you do not want backed up.
