Westinghouse

I purchased a 42" Westinghouse last January after the store associate said it was a pretty good television and now 7 months later the set would not turn on. We called Westinghouse and started the lengthy warranty process and after 2inquiring weeks we finally received an email stating the set could not be fixed and we would be receiving a new one but we would not get any tracking or shipping information for another 2 weeks. When I called to speak with someone and tell them I just want my money back, the situation fell on deaf ears. I and asked for the name of the General Manager and they would not give me a last name. After I finally found the corporate phone number and called them I found that they were just as juvenile in taking care of the customer. I asked the individual in refunds to escalate this to a manager and gave him my cell phone number to follow up on Friday. I called first thing Monday and the individual did not remember the situation. Finally on Wednesday he said that he was typing up the claim for his manager to review? If this is how Westinghouse treats the customer and takes care of their crappy products, then why is Best Buy selling them and why are the associates selling customers to them?

I agree with the pain it is for warranty issues.
But I will say that per their warranty it is their lone discretion to replace, repair and (rarely ever) refund money. I honestly have never heard of a manufacturer's warranty refunding the purchase price back unless it is a largely known defect with a public recall. Not saying that it never happened, but I would think it would be a No.
That said I agree you shouldn't have that CS. It should have been better. On the other hand you realize you bought a lower end set (price wise) and the less money paid means the less that can go to other areas normally, like hiring good CS.
Either way I hope you get a good working tv this time around. Or possibly a refund.
Just to be clear I put the probable no to the refund up there just to help set realistic expectations. I assume you probably knew that, but I try not to assume on these boards anymore

  • Radeon 9600 Pro and Westinghouse 19" Widescreen Mon.  1440 X 900 Possible?

I have a G4 MDD with a Radeon 9600 Pro, 256 Mb card with dual DVI outs. I just got two Westinghouse 19' widescreen monitors which have a max res of 1440 X 900. Problem is when I try to set the res of the two monitors in the Displays pane, there is no selection for 1440 x 900. In fact all the settings appear to be 4:3 aspect ratios..... The card seems to have enough juice to drive both monitors as they look fairly decent at a res that is close to the 1440 x 900 but the image is obviously stretched. How do I get a 1440 x 900 selection in my Display pane in System Preferences? Please tell me this res can be driven by this card......
    Thanks.
    j....

Problem solved.....I used a little shareware program called SwitchResX:
    http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/About.html
Fabulous little problem solver. You can set up custom resolutions of just about any dimension, although I only tested my needed resolution, and magically once you restart the machine, the resolutions are available in the Display preferences pane. If the display doesn't look right at first, i.e. shifted to the left or right, keep playing with it and perhaps switch back to a different resolution and then back to your custom res and all should be well. 75 Mhz as a refresh rate seemed to make my video card and the monitor happiest.
    Cheers.

  • Mac Mini Duo Core 2 + Westinghouse LCM-19w4 using DVI-d

Had been running my Mac Mini using the dvi-to-vga adapter into the vga port of the Westinghouse monitor. No issues. Today I purchased a Dynex DVI-d adapter and changed the connection to use the DVI-d connector on the monitor. These are 'single-path' cables.
On power up there was no signal recorded to the monitor. Subsequent attempts to startup in 'safe mode' produced nothing either. I tried something different, I put the Mac Mini to sleep (light touch of the power switch) and then woke it up again. Upon waking it up the monitor came to life showing the screen properly via the DVI-d cable. I reviewed "System Preferences" but could see nothing about DVI-d only generic monitor and screen resolution settings.
I powered down, then back up again, no screen was seen on boot-up. This time I simply put the unit to sleep again, then woke it up and presto, there was the screen perfectly displayed. So I've disabled my screen power off until I can figure this out.
Should I re-install the Mac OS X so it picks up the new DVI-d/monitor settings? or is there a change I can make to the OS manually?
    thoughts?

So you are no longer using adapters, correct? The Dynex is a full length DVI-D cable?
It might have something to do with the input select on the Westinghouse. It may be set to be looking for video primarily on the VGA input. Or it may be in some kind of auto port scan mode where it is trying to look for active video on it's inputs and maybe this is failing somehow. If that is the case, see if there is a way to turn off auto port scanning, or else if there is a way to set the input to be permanently DVI on the Westinghouse.

  • Getting Audio from Macbook to Westinghouse TV

I have a Westinghouse LCD 32" Flat Screen TV (Model # SK-32H240S), and I am trying to hook my Macbook up to the TV to watch videos from my laptop. I have an HDMI cable and the video works perfectly; however, I cannot get the audio to come through for the life of me. I bought a standard stereo audio cable (3.5mm to 2 RCAs), which I ran from the headphone jack on the Macbook to the audio ports on the back of the TV. I tried every audio port available, and could not get sound to come through with any of them. I went into the settings on the TV and told it that the device using the HDMI input was a PC. Still got nothing. Can anyone help???

These are probably silly questions, but I tend to go from easy solution to more difficult.
    1. Is the volume on the Mac turned up?
    2. Have you tried you're output jack with a pair of headphones to verify the port is working?
    3. Make sure you are using the headphone port and not the microphone port?
    4. Check System Preferences>Sound>Output and see what you have listed there.
    5. If you have one of the later MacBooks with the headphone/microphone combo port, you may need a different cable.

  • Connect Macbook to Westinghouse Monitor - ?

I am looking to buy a cable to connect my Macbook to an lcd monitor to get an extended display. I have a Macbook I bought in 2008 running on Mac OSX 10.5.8 and I want to connect it to a Westinghouse LCD Monitor model L1928NV. What cable/adaptor should I buy?

Depends on whether you have a model 4,1 or 5,1. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody has a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2008 model 4,1 has a Mini-DVI port. Each would take a different adapter

  • G4 problems with Westinghouse monitor

My husband just bought a Westinghouse 17" monitor(LCM-17w7) to hook up to his G4 mac last night.
He hooked it up and since then, we cannot get the computer to shut down. when you click shut down, the computer restarts. He could never get it to shut down, so he ended up unplugging it (a big no-no). He went to start it up again this morning, and it would not. His stepfather told him to reset it. My husband tried this and it did nothing.
I came home after he went to work, he'd told me about the computer. I came on here and was looking around. I tried unplugging the monitor to see if it would start up. It started up, but again i cannot get it to shut down. It just restarts again.
Does anyone have any hints or suggestions?
Also, when you go to shut it down, the it sounds like the fan speeds up A LOT... it gets really loud.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.0.x)   It's my husband's computer.

Since I originally posted, I have now talked to Apple, CompUSA and Westinghouse. I think the problem is in the cable. My husband is using a really old monitor cable from my first ever PC(circa1996) with adapters to make it hook to the DVI port on the MAC but connecting it to the VCA port. The tech guy from westinghouse told me that the cable is probably not communicating to shut down the monitor and the computer at the same time so the computer restarts itself. He told me to have my husband get a DVI cable.
Thanks for your advice. I will keep that in mind if the cable doesn't work.

  • Westinghouse monitor problem

So I just bought my G4 the other day, but it didn't come with a monitor so I headed over to best buy. I bought the cheapest one they had that they said would be compatible. I got a 17" lcd Westinghouse display..It has vga and dvi connections, but only came with the vga cable. I plug it in to the dvi-vga adapter, turn the system on and everything is pink and slightly blurry with a 3D glasses kind of effect. It looks awful and only allows me the resolution of 800x600, yet the monitor says its capable of 1280x1024. Is all of this a resolution problem? should I just return it or get a dvi cable? If I do return it what might be a better option?

I hope you didn't put with the VGA distortion all this time. If you haven't, by all means go to a DVI connection and you'll generally get a great full screen image. I have LCD's with both VGA and DVI- DVI clearly superior.

  • Westinghouse LCD Monitors?

Hi: I have a 1st gen Dual 4gigs ram. all PCI slot full.
Has anybody out there ever used one or know of someone who is using one on their MAC?
I now have 3 19in. ViewSonic CRT monitors hanging off of the ATE Radeon 9600 Pro (64 MB Vram) in the AGP slot and 2 ATI 7000s (32 MB Vram). The plan would be a Westinghouse 22in LCD on the 9600 and a 19in LCD on one of the 7000s opening up a PCI slot for myself. They have both VGA and DVI connectors.
I've seen them in Target and the color seems quite accurate on the dedicated stream they were both displaying and that's under blinding levels of fluorescent light. Can't beat the price of $499.98 total for both. I am a bit cautious about off name products and MACS, any words would be appreciated.

Okay, well this is interesting. If I take the brightness down too much, I see "ghosting" on EVERYTHING, including text. Also, when I shut down the Mac with monitor 2 plugged in, the one that when I plug in the LCD it turns the Mac on, it restarts the computer. I did this twice to insure I wasn't just hitting restart by accident. I'm calling tech support Monday (Westinghouse) and I think I'm taking these "good on paper" 16x9 LCDs back to Best Buy for a full refund. Then, I'll buy something different. I'm bummed out...

  • FIOS remote can turn TV off but not on? (Westinghouse LCD TV)

Westinghouse model  CW26S3CW 26" LCD HDTV.  Weirdest thing happening and that is I am able to get the FIOS remote to do everything but turn the TV on.  I have contacted Westinghouse and they are saying to use the Sanyo or Samsung codes but they don't work. I have different types of FIOS remotes and have tried them all to no avail.  I'm just dumbfounded how a FIOS remote can turn the TV off but not on.... Westinghouse must have some real whacked out technology that on and off are done differently.  Anybody have a solution to this problem?

I'm having this problem, started about a week ago.  I tried a factory reset and it did not help.  I have model 46G300U1.  Unplugging the TV is the only way that I know it will stay off.
TV will randomly turn itself back on. It does not always happen after a few seconds.  For example, last night I turned off the TV and sat in the same room for a few minutes and it did not turn back on.  However, when I checked this morning, it was back on.
    I'm running the latest firmware.

  • Problem with MSI Geforce FX 5200 & Westinghouse LCM-22W2

I've tried a bunch of different drivers and the highest resolution I can get displayed on this monitor is 1440x900. it's native resolution is one step higher, 1680x1050. Anyone have any ideas as to why my card refuses to display anything higher than this, even tho the latest drivers i have and all MSI's information specifically states that it should be capable of doing so?
    Thanks,
    -John

here's my specs - if i'm missing anything important let me know.
    MSI KT3 Ultra ARU
Athlon XP 2100+ (overclocked, recognized as 2700+)
    MSI Geforce FX 5200 VTD128
    1 GB RAM
Win XP Home, SP2 completely up to date
The Nvidia drivers are version 6.14.10.9371 released on 10/22/06 - I had a newer version but they didn't fix any problems, at this point i'm honestly not sure why I went back to this version :P - I had the absolute latest version from Nvidia's site, which the release notes specifically stated supported the Non-traditional 1680x1050 resolution, and that the FX5200 was supported by these drivers. Still didn't work.
    The GPU Bios is 4.34.20.23.08
Also, upon startup my system was kinda hanging and I would get a notice that SW20.exe had crashed. I disabled sw20.exe and sw24.exe from starting up when the PC did and have no problems. It's not liek I miss them, cus I never used the overclocking functions of the graphics card anyway.
Originally XP was recognizing my monitor as a "Plug and play" monitor. The manual says this:
"VESA Plug and Play eliminates the complicated and time-consuming installation process. Your computer system will identify and automatically adjust the LCD monitor. The LCD monitor uses Display Data Channel (DDC) to send Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) to the computer system, so the computer system can automatically adjust the LCD monitor."
Right now the monitor is running with a custom inf file that PowerStrip (Which I downloaded from a link I found here) created for it. Westinghouse has no drivers or anything remotely helpful on their website.
Also, I'm using a Dual-link DVI cable, the monitor also has a VGA input.

  • Mirroring not working on ipad2 with Westinghouse tv

I connected my ipad2 to my Westinghouse TV using the new adapter and an hdmi cable. It sends my tv into cycle of detecting screens but then just gives up and no mirroring. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there settings I need to change on the iPad or the tv to make this work?

Ok... That makes sense. However I sent a message to a fiend it said message send figure on the iPad but I guess went though my phone cause she was able to answer it and the response went to the iPad.

  • Westinghouse 20" LCD TV

    Hi,
I just bought a 20" Westinghouse LCD TV with HD but I'm using the mac mini with an DVI apple adapter for the mini port and the other end for the TV is VGA
I'm not getting anything just a blue screen. Is there any settings that I need to use in order for this to work? I'm new with using a mac so I don't know if I'm messing up my files by powering off and on with out doing it through the interface. If someone could give me some guidance I would appreciate it. The manual doesn't tell me anything for hooking up to a mac or pc.

Do the following, and see what happens:
Switch everything off (Mini and LCD)
Make sure the connectors are tight (Mini-DVI-VGA-Cable-DVI-LCD)
Start-up the mini (leaving the LCD off!)
Once you are sure the mini has started, switch on the LCD. Without a monitor connected, the mini SHOULD start-up rendering at 800 x 600 @ 60 (32 deep).
You should have a pretty small, pretty bland but pretty real OS X rendition on your LCD. Now you can start trying to get the resolution you desire. Your LCD monitor would most likely have a list of the resolutions it supports. Try the one you want via System Preferences -> Displays.
So many people post similar problems. I have recommended CSCREEN because its free BUT the problem is that it requires a little (very limited) skill in the terminal.
Others use DisplayConfigX or SwitchResX, both sharewares costing $10. All three can be found at the usual places (versiontracker.com and macupdate.com). Searching these forums, you will find posts by myself describing how to use CScreen.
