Wet iphone

HEllo ,
my iphone hone went for a hand wash spin. Totally devasted ! Plugged phone in after 4 days it's working but now I can't put SIM card in and close the tray. Seems like something's blocking it. What can I do? Will Apple help?
how much would the screen cost to replace?

after it got wet, did you power off the phone and place it in a bag of uncook rice for 4 days?
If you're having issues with the phone, then it probably damaged.
YOu can buy an out of warranty at the apple store.

  • Any suggestions for a wet iPhone? It's dried out, but all I get is a black screen, even when hooked up to charger. You think the apple people could  actually fix this?

I got a wet iPhone. It's dried out now, but still dark screen, even when plugged in

Hence the term "OUT OF WARRANTY EXCHANGE".

  • Wet iPhone Question and Applecare Issue

Hello! Sorry to post another topic about a wet iPhone, but I have a specific question.
Yesterday while fishing, I bent over to get something and my iPhone fell out of my pocket into the lake. I grabbed it out right away. It spent the night in a back of rice ... it works 90%. The home button is a little finicky (doesn't always want to click back to the next screen), Facebook updates are popping up, and I can call out an hear the other person - but they can't hear me. Is there hope if I leave it in a bag of rice for the weekend? Any other ideas?
The main reason I am mad is that I stopped at the AT&T store yesterday right after it happened. I was informed that the Applecare plan I purchased doesn't cover water damage. But I am 99% sure when I bought the plan that I was told it DID cover water damage. When I decided to purchase the extra coverage I used the example of a couple years ago when I unfortunately ran a Blackberry through the washing machine and asked if that would be covered. I KNOW he said that would be covered ... or in the least, strongly led me to believe it would be covered to the point where I decided to purchase the Applecare plan. Do I have any recourse if I feel I was mislead into buying the Applecare coverage???
    Thanks for any advice! Kris

Don't let those replies get to you .... I find these the Apple forums very rude.
I have no doubt that the AT&T person led you to believe that water damage would be covered. Best case scenario, they were simply uneducated about the plan and accidently gave you misleading verbal information. More likely, they wanted the commission.
I live in Canada, and when I called Bell for satellite TV, I specifically asked twice if I would be locked into a contract and I was told no, twice. I called back and the second person ran around the issue, but finally admitted yes there was a two year contract. Moral of the story and despite the rude reply, gdgmacguy is right ... read it for yourself in writing before committing.
Did you happen to pay for the iPhone with a credit card? A lot of credit cards have built in insurance that includes extended warranties accidental loss or breakage?
As for the rice, try the weekend or even a week. I have dropped a cell phone in the water before (not an iPhone). I ended up replacing it, but took it apart and let it dry anyway. After I dropped my replacement in the water (I know shut up) I reassembled the first one and it worked. Using the iPhone while still wet inside may damage it further. Give it a very good chance to dry before trying again.

  • Wet iPhone - Please Help!

My iPhone 4 was in the pocket of my GoreTex jacket on a rainy walk, and somehow got wet!  When I pulled it out after the walk, the phone was hot, the LED flash was on, but the phone was unresponsive.  I noticed moisture in the camera lens, so immediately went online to see how to clear the moisture and revive my iPhone.  It has been sitting in a bag of rice for about 5 days now (with a few silica packs I pulled from vitamin bottles), with no signs of life.  Plugging it in, the LED flash comes on, but that's it.  When unplugged, the LED stays on for about 5 minutes, but eventually dies.  The phone is past warranty, so no hope of getting it replaced by Apple, but I'm not ready to give up on it yet... Any ideas on (a) what to do... keep waiting? or (b) what might be wrong... what parts might I need to order for a DIY fix?  Thanks!

Thanks... I've gone 10 days in the rice now, and the good news is that iTunes will recognize the phone, and I was able to do a complete software/firmware restore.  The bad news, is that the LED light is still permanently on, and the phone still won't boot.  Holding the home button and power button together for about 10 seconds will get the Apple logo to flash on screen for an instant... but then that's it.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • Wet iPhone/ Hard Reset

My iPhone got wet on Thursday, from then on the sound wouldn't work other than calls, text tones, lock/unlock sounds, and keypad sounds didn't work at all. Then today it told me my phone has to be restored because i can't make or receive calls now. I tried to do a hard reset myself, and now it takes me thru the first 3 steps of setting up your iphone. Language>Country>Wi-Fi and then it says activating and it doesn't do anything. There is an option for iTunes sync, but i don't have a computer that i can download it on. I am at work and it wont allow me to download iTunes.

There's a good chance your circuitry was damaged by the water.

  • Wet iPhone Speakers

My iPhone 5s got wet recently and the speakers stopped working. It's too expensive to replace my phone so I was wondering if the phone would work well in the long run regardless of if the speakers don't work.

There is only one speaker - the other that looks the same is a microphone.
If you can live with the speaker and/or the microphone not working, yes unless the water penetrated more than just the speakers.

  • How do I fix my wet iphone 5?

I recently dropped my brand new iphone in some water.  I pulled it out in a couple of seconds, dried it off thoroughly, then placed it in a bowl of rice for three days.  I did not intentionally turn on my phone after I got it wet, all I remember is seeing a distorted home screen before I shut it off right away and started drying it.  I pulled it out of the rice today and tried to turn it on with no luck.  I tried pressing the home and off/on button together which didn't work either.  Finally, I plugged it into my wall charger and lo and behold after a couple minutes the apple icon came up.  Unfortunetly, now it just keeps flashing on and off.  I've read almost every article online about this problem and none of them metion a blinking screen.  Most of them mention some form of response when turning it on.  Is my phone dead?  Is there anyway I can keep myself from loosing a $600 phone?  PLEASE HELP.

  • Wet iPhone 6

I got my iPhone 6 wet and it doesn't work anymore. I don't have any insurance or apple care. What is my best course of action?

Your options? New phone at full price. Of course they are on back order, so you'll have to do without until mid October unless you have an old phone you can reactivate.
You usually have 14 days to buy a protection plan; I suggest you do so next time. I think with square trade, it may even be 30 days.

  • Wet iPhone - now nearly black screen

    Hi Everyone,
I hope you can help me. Unfortunatly I've sent my iPhone swimming yesterda. After I pulled it out I towled it down and let it dry. Afterwards, it appeared to be working fine with a bit of flickering. A few hours later the screen turned nearly all black. It looks like the phone is working just the screen is only 3-5% bright. Very hard to see something. Furthermore when someone calls the phone only vibrates but doesnt ring. Is there anything is can do? Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Wet Iphone 5

My phone got wet and won't turn on even if I plug it in to the original charger. I have tried putting it in rice and blowing it with a hair dryer although neither of those solutions have worked. Any suggestions?

Get a new iphone or buy an out of warranty replacement

  • Wet iphone 3g

I have an Iphone 3g and it got wet. I have had it in rice for about a month now but it still wont turn on. Is there something I can do? Could there be something little wrong with it like the water fried the battery? I just really want to get my phone working due to the fact I can not afford to buy a new phone right now. I appericate all the advise in advance.

Take it to the Apple store and get it replaced for $149 or get a new phone. That's about it.
There is no magic that will make it work again. You've already done all you can.
You might be able to find a 3rd party repair shop that will quote you a lower price, but that can be iffy at best.
If you're in the US, you can get a new iPhone 3Gs on AT&T for free with a 2 year contract.

  • Wet iphone recovery

My iphone got wet with ocean water.  I dried it in a bag with rice.  It seems to work fine except for the radios.  It is "searching" for the cellular carrier.  Any suggestions for next step?  Should I soak in isopropanol and dry again?

Since your iPhone was in seawater which has a high salt content and is highly corrosive, my suggestion is to take it start to apple for an out of warranty replacement for which you will be charged. Any attempts ate drying it are doomed to failure after immersion in seawater.
Your attempts to dry it might remove the moisture but the salt will stay behind to cause corrosion in the future.

  • Wet iphone...now dim screen

My iphone got wet in the hurricane...just wet, not submerged.  Now the screen is extremely dim.  I can barely see anything on it.  I tried putting the phone in rice for a day but no luck. Have also checked Brightness under Settings. Any suggestions?

You can try to let the phone dry for a few more days.  If it still doesn't work, it's hosed.  You can try to fix it yourself or via an iPhone repair shop, or you can take it into an Apple Store for out of warranty exchange.  The cost varies from country to country.  In the US it is $199.00

  • Wet Iphone Warranty

ok so i got my iphone wet due to a waterbottle exploading in my bag
i know my warranty doesnt cover water damage but ive read somewhere that this voids my warranty is that true?!!?!?!?!

The "exposed" Apple memo was a so called leaked internal memo which tweaks the existing iPod liquid damage assessment procedure. At this point it is a rumour, and no where in the picture does it say iPhone, so I would take that rumour with a grain of salt. Since we are not supposed to speculate I would not count on that tweaked document on being the truth.
There is an internal moisture sensor that should be located on the logic board (or atleast there is on the Original iPhone). Apple had been just inspecting the two moisture sensors found on most iPhones (ear jack & dock port) to determine if the iPhone had been exposed to unacceptable moisture. So potentially Apple may take the iPhone in for further examination which would require disassembly to see the internal sensor.
Since it is free it is always a good idea to make a genius appointment at an Apple Store to see about getting the iPhone inspected even if it is out of warranty.
How long has it been since the iPhone hasn't worked? If it hasn't been too long stick the iPhone in a bag of rice and wait (1-2 weeks) then see if it does anything. If its been a while and you've tried an excessive number of times to turn the unit on or charge it, it could be too late.

  • HT1476 Wet iPhone 5 Cord!

My iPhone 5 cord got wet on the side that plugs into the wall, it wasn't much water though. I quickly dried it off and left it out to air dry. I'm a bit apprehensive to use it on my phone, should it be okay to use or will it damage my phone?

It's been about two or three days, if that matters.
