Wet MacBook

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro that recently got wet while closed. The display, keyboard, and trackpad now do not work. Usb mouse and keyboard work, and external display works. Can boot and use computer with externals. Is this most likely a logic board issue or separate problem?

What's most likely wrong is that your logic board is dead. As has been stated - water and electronics do not mix well. If you'd prefer guesses over a technical diagnosis, you've come to the right place...

  • Wet MacBook Air... running very slow

Recently my 11" MacBook Air (mid 2010) had some wine spilled on it. The screen went black immediately and the power would not turn on. Put it in a giant bag of rice over night which did nothing except get rice stuck in the hinge. A friend took it all apart and did watever he did and it works now but it runs really slow, slower than a PC... you can't watch streaming video and applications take what seems like forever to open.
So my questions are: Do you know what part of the macbook is damaged to make it run that slow? And how much would Apple charge to fix it?
    Thanks

These laptops are not very repairable - they only have a few major components and they would be swapped rather than trying any sort of component level repair. As a first guess I would say that Apple would probably swap the main logic board and maybe the SSD. Depending on the screen they may also suggest swapping that. The cost of doing that would be a significant portion of the cost of a new machine.
If you have household insurance you may be covered for the accident. Depending on your policy it may be worth exploring that avenue.

  • Wet macbook pro value

Hi. Someone in my family recently soaked a mid-2014 retina MBP then turned it on and the screen "made pretty rainbows" and the computer wouldn't work.
Well, it seems to run fine now, except the battery charge shows 99% and states that it should be replaced immediately.
    Two questions:
    1. Are there any diagnostic tests I can run that would indicate how much damage (if any) was done?
    2. Any idea what it would be worth on ebay? $600?

Actually, as soon as I unplug it the computer shuts off. I'm guessing that if I replace the battery it will work the same with a power source or without.
    Thoughts?

  • My MacBook Pro got wet and I need help?

We just had a different air conditioner installed above my computer desk. Even though my MacBook Pro was not on top of the desk it still got wet. It soaked through the desk straight on to the pullout computer shelf onto my laptop. We soaked it in rice for a week. We just pulled it out and nothing. The light on the battery won't even light up. Any suggestions?? Is there somewhere I can go for a miracle fix (I'm in Salt Lake City, UT) or am I totally screwed???

The only thing you can do is take the MBP to an Apple store genius bar or Apple Authorized Service Provider for diagnostics to see what damage the water did.  There is nothing more a user can do than you have already tried.
Note: it is not a good idea to publish hardware serial numbers on an open, public forum.

I assume these photos, or at least not all of them weren't in photo stream.
You should be able to recover your photos from a back up.

  • Macbook Pro got wet with Coke

Hi everyone, first sorry for my bad english.
So a few days ago I wet my mid 2009 MacBook pro with coke and thats's when the problems started. the coke spilled on the right side of the notebook where is the hard drive and the optical drive, but I guess it doesnt matter because when I opened it up everything was very messy. First I cleaned everything and waited a couple of days and then booted it up. Everything was ok until I saw the question mark folder ( my HD is dead, im sure) I tried to boot up with another hard drive with windows 7 installed, it started to a point where a mistake was found and it couldnt repair it. I tried to put the original mac os x dvd and hit the option key at start up, the mouse appears but the mac os install disk doesnt. I tried with bootable usb and thw results are the same, long story short my macbook cant regocnize any bootable image..:( I will appreciate any ideas and advices to help to give life again to this macbook.  :)
BTW I also tried to start it up without RAM I and thw usual beebs appeared, I thing this kind of a good sign

You're simply going to have to bite the bullet and take your MacBook Pro into your local Apple Store/AASP and have them evaluate the damage. Corrosion is going to set in and your Mac will - sooner or later - simply fail.
You may want to see if you have accidental damage on your computer equipment on your renter's/homeowner's insurance. 'Fixing' the problem is going to be expensive - you may want to put the money you'd spend having your machine repaired towards the purchase of a new unit.

  • Why does my macbook shock me occasionally even if my hands aren't wet?

why does my macbook shock me occasionally even if my hands aren't wet?

It shouldn't. Take it in for service as there is definitely something amiss.

  • Unibody macbook caps lock stuck on sound not working got wet.

My Macbook got wet due to a flower vase tipping over (cats)  I have replaced the keyboard and the backlight, im thinking it needs a logic board.  The sound dose not work and the computer comes on when its closed, caps lock stuck on. External keyboard works ok.  thanks for your time

I've also installed Onyx and performed maintenance and cleaning tasks. No difference...

  • Macbook got wet...

A soda spilled near my macbook causing the top plastic with the glowing apple to get wet, along with the side with my USB ports. It was off when the spill occurred, and the battery was taken out immediately. Do you think it will still work? My brother said it will most likely work. Right now its sitting on a dry table drying. It was never turned on after the spill.

Immediately make a Genius Appointment and take it in for a check. Improperly treated liquid spills may seem innocuous, but in time can damage your computer.

  • My  macbook air got wet and now it doesn't have any sound

My macbook air just got a little wet but then air was coming out of it and now it works and i can use it but sound doesnt come out of it. Should i bring it in ? Is there anything that Apple can do to bring the sound back ?

Leave it turned off.  Leave it unplgeed from the wall.
Take it into Genius Bar for a repair estimate (estimates are free).  Water damage is not covered by warranty, so the repair bill may be small or may be large.  Genius Bar will know far beter than any users in this forum just guessing.
    Good luck.

  • My macbook air got wet and won't start up.  Is it toast?

my macbook air got wet and won't start up.  Is it toast?

most likely. take it to an Apple store or AASP for a correct diagnosis. Expect a large extimate.

  • My macbook pro got wet and the battery light is still on but my macbook won't turn on. What's the problem?

My mabook pro got wet the other night, the battery light still works but my macbook won't turn on and should i just wait for it to completely dry up? Or what should i do to solve this problem?

Just face facts - if water (or any other liquid) reached you logic board or any other electronic components, you're going to be the victim of corrosion.
Eventually, you'll need to have the logic board replaced. There are liquid sensors all over your MBP and the techs can tell if these have been activated. I wouldn't turn the computer on at all - if it were me, I would take it to your local Apple Store/AASP and get an estimate for repair. Rice & other desiccates may 'dry up' the liquid, but it won't undo the damage already done.

  • Macbook wont turn on at all, I suspect it got wet

but I really dont know! water spilled on the table and I grabbed my ibook and thought I saved it from the water touching it, I saw no water on the macbook and I moved to another table and worked for a minute more and then closed it (sleep mode) and put it away. I really did not think it was wet until I openned it back up the next day and it would not turn on. I took out the baterry and let it sit for 2 days but still nothing.
I took it to the repair shop on Thursday. If i did get wet I am wondering if the apple center will be able to fix it and how much it might be? Anyone btdt?
I want to repeat that I really didnt think it got wet but it is a strange coincidence. If it did get wet I think the water may have come in thru the vent in the back and not from the keyboard. I did use it for about 2-3 more minutes after I moved to a different table so this is why I thought it did not get wet. I figure if it did get wet I probably fried it because I did not turn it off..
please someone give me some hope

  • Wet my macbook with milk and screen turned white.

Yesterday I spilled skim milk on my macbook pro. (newer version) I panicked and wiped the milk with a towel. Then wiped it with a damp napkin. The macbook worked fine and none of the features inside were damaged, keys worked too. I searched what to do and some of the comment I read was to spray the macbook with a spray-water can. So I sprayed the macbook a little bit and put it upside down to dry. Today I took it to an apple store, I told them my situation and turned on my macbook in front of the assistant. She checked it and fined me 565$. She said something in the computer could be damaged. I am pretty sure my macbook works fine, its just the keys and that they stick to the bottom. So I took the macbook home and charged it(since it had only 9 min left when assistant checked). Then a white screen showed up with a gray apple in the middle. and a loading bar on the bottom. Then the loading bar faded and instead of the bar, there was a circle which was going round (like when loading). Ive waited for 20 min and still no luck. What do I do????

Oh, please. No one in the world can "fine" you for damaging your own computer. They can charge you for repairing it, but they can't charge you without doing anything. When you paid your "fine," did you think you had committed a crime? Did you wonder why you hadn't been tried for it, but had been summarily declared guilty and punished with a large fine? Did you actually pay?
Turn your computer off and leave it off. Disconnect the AC adapter. If your machine has a user-removable battery, remove it. Lay the machine with its keyboard face down on a towel overnight (hang the screen off the edge of a tabletop so the keyboard can be level and in contact with the towel). After a night of that, stand the computer up on its front edges with the screen open 45°, like an A-frame house, and set up a household fan to blow room-temperature air through it for a minimum of 48 hours to dry all the remaining moisture out of it. Do not try to start it up during this time. If at the end of this treatment your MBP won't start up or any of its keys fail to operate normally, it will have to be repaired. You have voided its warranty with the original spill and the additional water spray, and whatever repairs it needs, you will have to pay for. Whatever you pay, it will be a fee for repair work, not a "fine."
