WFii password is asked everytime Mac mini is turned on.

When I turn on my Mac mini it asks WiFi connection password eveytime.  İt does not save the password. I tried everything. İt is too annoying and my children do not want to use it. Even worse when wakes up from energy saving mode asks both passwords.

Hello, this info is for previous OS versions, but would vary only slightly in 10.7.x.
Go to System Preferences
Click Network
Highlight AirPort and click Configure...
Choose “By default, join: Preferred networks”
Select your access point and Remove your access point with the minus button.
Launch your keychain access in Utilities and delete your access point keychain entry.
Reboot
Go back to the “By default, join:” page and click the plus this time to add your access point. Enter the correct password, save, reboot.
Instead of joining it from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Or See if this helps...
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Keychain Menu item, then either check the Password under that item, change it, or delete it and start over.
Keychain Access asks for keychain "login" after changing login password...

  • My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad

My mac mini wont turn on but there is power to it as the usb port charges my iPad. My monitor uses a HDMI cable when the mac mini is off it says no input received which it does not say so it is receiving some signal from the mac mini. I have tried a different cable and a different monitor/ hdmi cable. The fan isnt running there is no start up noise but the little light on the front blinks every 4-5 seconds. Im booked in to see a GENIUS on sunday but I was wondering if there is anything I can do in the mean time. The mac mini is only 8 months old if that. Any ideas people? Oh the mac is also running mountain lion and has been since the day of release i've never had a problem up until this.

The following table lists the new tones and their meaning:
    Tone(s)          Description
1 tone, a 5-second pause, repeat          No RAM installed
3 successive tones, a 5-second pause, 3 successive tones          RAM does not pass data integrity check
1 long tone when holding down the power button          Firmware upgrade in process. See About firmware updates for Intel-based Macs for more details.
3 long tones, 3 short tones, 3 long tones          Firmware restoration from CD in process. See About the Firmware Restoration CD (Intel-based Macs) for more details.

Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Firmware Password Protection For Apple Mac Mini running Mac Os X Server10.6

Did any one Know How to install
Apple Firmware password to my Mac mini Server (1.83 ghz macmini)
    please help

To confirm, you have booted the DVD, selected the language, then looked under the Utilities menu item up to the menu bar? (That's where it's expected to be, but I don't have a way to test that right now.)
And FWIW, when posting, it can be very helpful to post what you've looked at or what you've tried or what's confused you. With that background, you can get an answer to your question more quickly. With that, you're not going to get (for instance) me posting a pointer to something you've already tried.

  • Mac Mini Casing Turning Yellow / Beige

I have three Mac Mini Intels, two at work and one at home.
The one at home which was from march 2006 is white, the brand new one at work is white, but mine at work which is from around May has turned Yellow, an ugly ivory colour on the top, when the white remote is put on top, it is a totally different colour. Has anyone else got this?
I can only assume it is the daylight or flourescent tube on the ceiling above affecting the plastic.
    Not very pleased about this.

I haven't noticed any significant discoloration in my mini's, though when compared to a 3rd generation iPod, both look slightly yellowish. I have one in my office under fluorescent lighting, and one at home in daylight/partial sunlight but both look the same color, and both match a brand new mini I set up for a user.
The only mini I have seen show any real sign of discoloration was used in a smoking environment, where not surprisingly it turned a rather unpleasant shade of yellow.
Is it possible that there are trace chemicals or impurities in the air in your office that may have affected just that system?

  • Internet wifi connetion password is asked everytime

My ipad2 does not connect to wifi automatically. Everytime i switch it on i need to enter userid and password of the internet service provider. Can somebody help.Thanks.

If you have to not only enter your password, but user id as well, it is going to be hard/impossible to help you. Usually that happens on certain networks that are set up, before connecting to those to request that info. If network/router is set that way there is no way to bypass that.

  • Firmware password for G4 PowerPc Mac Mini

    Hi,
I need to set a firmware password for an older mini using a G4 processor. Open Firmware Password does not support this model. Internet searches have given some answers, but wanted to hear from other sources before taking any action. Please advise if anyone has experience in this area.

It may not support it officially, but it certainly works. I have three minis with this installed.

  • MAC Mini wont turn on but the fan is constantly running loudly.

Hey, I'm new to MAC's and apple etc, I mostly use PC's and such but had to get a MAC for work purposes. Up to now it has been great and I can see why they are brill machines but last night when it wasn't even switched on the fan started up and now I can't even turn the Mini on. The only way to stop the fan (which sounds like a hair dryer - the only way I can describe it) is to unplug it at the mains. I'm worried that someone is going to tell me its bust and will cost a small fortune to repair but hey I gotta know.
    Thanks.
Also I have tried pressing down the button to restart it etc but it just doesn't respond.

I am also having the same problem.
I came home after a long business trip to find that my computer was unplugged by my wife. After plugging it back in, fan on high, and no LED light.
I was quoted 500-600 to get it fixed. I bought the darn thing for only $450.
SMC reset has absolutely no effect what so ever.

  • My mac mini keeps turning off

I have a 1.5 ghz macmini with 512mb of ram, and it randomly shuts off, if i turn it on right away the power led starts making this weird flash as if it were in sleep mode but not exactly, see in sleep mode the led dims out as if it were going to turn off and then makes it slef brighter but when i have this issue it doesnt dim all the way down it satys in the middle as if it were operating normally and then it gets really bright, the computer boots fine and in the login window shuts down, i have to wait a couple of minutes to turn it on again and then it works fine.
this is happened like four times already.
    can anyone help please?

I'm having the same problem - but don't believe its a power strip problem. See my posts at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1644933&#1644933
My mini's at the apple store being evaluated now.
I suggest calling apple support - if its within a year of purchase, my experience was that they'll talk to you if you tell them its a hardware problem.
Also, try to note what time the problem happened (as exactly as possible) and then check out the system logs, (To see them, go the the Utilities folder and open up the Console app). Try to find the time the problem happened and see if there are any error codes printed in the log - especially for the PMU (Power Management Unit). If you see any tell that to the support person - it might help them figure out the problem.

  • Mac Mini will NOT Load

    Hello Happy Mac People.
I am currently having issues with my Mac Mini.
Currently, in it's Superdrive Slot rests a disc that was meant to install a Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse combo that was wireless.
I know what you are going to say. Microsoft equipment. Yes, I know.
Anyway. After it asked me to restart said Mini to install the software, I do so....to a grey screen. No apple logo, no spindle. No nothing.
So I turn to my trusty Mac Mini guidebook!
Method 1: Restart. Tried. Didn't work.
Method 2: Restart while pressing Option and Apple and P and R. Tried. Restarted the mac with the second chime. Didn't work.
Method 3: Restart while pressing Option. Tried. Gave me the Macintosh HD to choose. Mouse happy to regain control of facilities. Pressed button under HD logo. Mouse hisses at me for being frozen again. No go.
Method 4: Unplug power cord. Press power. Replug power cord. Fan within Mac Mini becomes angry and goes full tilt. Turn off Mac Mini. Turn on Mac Mini. Fan still having words of anger with me. Turn off Mac Mini, unplug, turn on Mac Mini. Fan has reconciled it's differences, but still receiving grey screen at every step.
Please help. Need Mac. Windows Bad.
    Lovingly,
    John Martin
    Mac Mini Intel Duo model.

Was the software for windows or OSX?
Software was for OSX. Was even in a .dmg
where you in Boot camp when this all occured, or are you trying to load the drivers for OSX?
    Drivers for OSX
Sounds like something really crapped out. Did you try booting into single user mode
Never heard of. Will try. Rebooted. Pressed Command and S. Nothing. Pressed option and S just to make sure. Nothing. Mac Mini has appearantly become box that is silver and white that just so happens to be labeled with the apple logo. Not happy that computer has just become paperweight.
Here's the KB article that tells you how (basically hold the S key down when it boots up.
If you succesfully get into single user mode try running fsck (/sbin/fsck -fy)
Also try running the disk utility from the install disc, and/or the Apple Hardware Test also on the install disc.
To start AHT, reboot the computer and hold the option key down and select The Apple Hardware Test.
Something may have hosed your system, if that is the case you may need to reinstall OSX, if that is the case (I cannot imagine it is) just do an archive and install. This will preserve your home folder and user settings so you shouldn't lose anything. This of course should be your last resort.
This would work, if the install disc were not still in. Tried restarting to click mouse button to release prisoner disc. Mac Mini would not agree to terms. Install disc misses it's family.

  • No QE/CI on Mid 2010 Mac Mini

I recently purchased a Mid 2010 Mac Mini and have it connected to a 32" Insignia NS-L32X 1080p television via HDMI. I've upgraded it to Lion and noticed that QE/CI are not enabled. In fact they aren't listed at all under Graphics/Displays in System Information. Unfortunately I didn't check the setting before the upgrade so I don't know if they were enabled under Snow Leopard. Has anyone else experienced this?

OK, I've got my Firewire connection working again! Yay!
It turns out that I'm an idiot. A smaller man would not own up to his stupidity, but I'm not that guy.
Here's how I solved my problem.
I did a Google search on "mac min 2010 owners manual". I found the PDF file for the manual and started looking through it:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Mac_mini_Mid2010_User_Guide.pdf
On page 11, there is a drawing of the *BACK* of the Mac Mini. This is important because I had been plugging in the cables blindly, while facing the *FRONT* of the box.
Turns out that I was jamming the Firewire plug into the Ethernet port! The port is big enough to accomodate the male end of the Firewire plug, and it seemed to fit snugly.
Once I saw the drawing in the manual, I realized what was up. I spun the Mac Mini around, turned the Firewire plug sideways, and inserted it where it belongs: right between the Ethernet and HDMI ports! Voila! Everything worked as expected.
I wish there were a lesson in here somewhere, other than the fact that I am an idiot. "But when in doubt, try asking yourself: 'Did I plug everything in the right way?'"

  • What is mac mini

Hi, I have seen mac mini but never understood what it was, can you please tell me, thanks.

Store blurb is fine, but doesn't really explain what was asked.
Mac Mini is a compact desktop Mac. It is sold without peripherals; no monitor, no keyboard, no mouse.
The idea is you can use any monitor you may have been using for a PC, say, and choose your own input devices.
Being such a small computer, it's not as powerful as an iMac, or even some of the MacBook Pro range, but it will do most thinks well, and is often used as a media centre for streaming to a TV or HiFi.

  • Mac mini as archive server: do any big disks work??

I'm proposing purchase of a mini (I have one on another project, works flawlessly) and lots (4-8 TB at least) of disk. I've heard of problems with the mini talking to RAID storage. I've also been through reviews on amazon and newegg and gather many brands of big disks (1-2 TB) are having problems - with macs on firewire, if not all PCs - with going to sleep and having to be removed/reconnected before they are visible again.
So I'm wondering if any in the mac mini community have had success with 2 TB or larger drives talking to their mac without difficulty over FW800. I'm leaning toward purchasing separate enclosures and putting better internal drives in there (e.g. OWC enclosures, Hitachi deskstar drives).
Any comments would be much appreciated.

So how were you thinking of providing a username/password system on the Mac mini or are you just planning to use un-authenticated (guest) access? Without a clear security system in place interally you will not be able to protect your data from the outside world.
In actual fact I'm intending to re-task my Mac mini into a server as well although I'm waiting for Mac OS X Server to be brought to Intel before taking my current server, an old PowerBook G4 500MHz, offline and replace it with the mini.
My preferred security method is to send all inbound traffic from our DSL connection to our server (placing it into the DMZ), close all ports on the server except the absolute minimum (server admin etc) and provide VPN access. Once a VPN connection is established you can do what you like with the network with your username and password. All other traffic is simply denied as you require the VPN conection.
You may just want to buy youself a hardware VPN server to handle the security until Mac OS X Server.

  • Mac mini VPN headless, slow graphics performance when no monitor plugged in

I am using a Mac mini, headless, with no monitor, keyboard or mouse, via VPN from a Windows machine over a LAN. Everything works fine and setting everything up was a breeze. However, something very odd I noticed was that if my Mac mini does not have a monitor plugged in to its video output, the rendering of the graphics over the VPN is very slow. It is most noticable when hovering over the dock and activating the animations etc, though it is noticable all the time. It's so bad that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to watch a video clip or simple animation. It's as though frames are being dropped. Now, this can be immediately fixed if a monitor is plugged into the Mac mini and turned on, and the VPN to the Mac mini from my Windows machine works flawlessly and the graphics are rendered perfectly, with little to no delay or frame skipping.
I have a hunch that the Mac could be disabling some kind of graphics acceleration when the monitor is not plugged in, but I am not a Mac expert by far, this is my first Mac experience. It was purchased solely for the VPN and headless use, so if I can't get it working properly, it's a waste.
Note, I have tried several VPN client/viewer combinations and they do not change the situation.
    Thanks in advance.

Also, when I try to use the remote with the Mac mini (pressing the menu button), over VPN with no monitor attached to the machine, I simply get a white blank screen until I press the menu button again.

I must have been HALF ASLEEP when I wrote this.
I do not mean VPN, I mean VNC!!. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Daisy chain two display port monitors (Dell U2913WM) to new Mac mini Thunderbolt?

Everything I read said that I could hook up a display port monitor to a Thunderbolt port on the mac mini.  I purchased two display port monitors (Dell U2913WM) that can be daisy chained, and hooked them up.  All I get is mirroring.  Does anyone know how to turn off mirroring with this setup?  I did not get the "uncheck mirroring" option in preferences until I hooked up the second via the HDMI port instead of a daisy chain.  The problem with that is, I cannot take advantage of the full resolution through the HDMI.  It seems I have wasted my money on two monitors.
    Looking for advice on:
    1) How to daisy chain these two Dell monitors to the mac mini and turn off mirroring and use an extended desktop, or
    2) How to take advantage of the full resolution through HDMI port?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

So re-reading this thread, I now realize you did exactly what I wanted to do but your issue was having a cloned vs. extended desktop. Oops!
I believe your "nothing plugged in" issue is the cable. I'm not sure that TB cables are backwards compatible with DP - I think it's only the ports. Do you see multiple monitors in "System Preferences > Displays" if you hook the monitors up like you described in your OP?
My Dell U2713H arrived today and it works like a charm with the supplied Mini-DP to DP cable. The built-in display on my 13" mid 2009 MBP still works if not in clamshell mode, although I will mostly use mine in my HengeDock. In the OSD of the monitor, you can access "Display Settings > Display Info" and it will show you the DP capability. Mine is only DP 1.1a and I believe to run 2 of these at full resolution you will need the bandwidth in DP 1.2 which includes MST (daisy-chaining). This could be your problem.
Can you access the same menu in your OSD and report back what your DP compatability is?
    Thanks!

  • Mac Mini won't boot loud fan.

I left my office only to return to find that my Mac mini had turned off. I tried to turn it on, the light comes on, and the fan comes on (very loud). But that is it.
I have had it less than a year with no trouble.
Anyway I have tried resetting the PRAM. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Reset the SMC, as per > Resetting the System Management Controller
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
If that does not resolve the problem..?
Run the Extended Hardware Test, as per > Using Apple Hardware Test
If that does not work or you encounter a hardware problem, contact your local Apple Store or AASP using > Apple - Find Locations and have the Mac Mini checked out.
