WGPS606 Print Server

I have just purchased a wireless print server (Netgear WGPS606) and have configured it correctly with my HP Photosmart 8050 on a PC. I am trying to connect my Mac to the print server but for some reason, I am having no success. I have read some of the other questions and they all seem to need the same thing. Could it be a driver I need? Been to printfab.com and there is nothing there for my printer.
Any ideas?

The Photosmart P1100 Gimp-Print driver included in OS X is a generic Photosmart driver that should work for network printing. (HP's driver won't work for network printing)
According to this:

In printer Setup, click Add, then IP printer > LPD. Enter the IP address and enter L1 for first printer or L2 for 2nd printer.

  • WRT54G and a Netgear WGPS606 Print Server

    Hi,
Am having some issues that I hoping someone can help me with.  First I have a broadband modem which is connect to my Linksys WRT54G.  I recently bought a netgear print server (WGPS606) to allow for wireless printing.
In going through the setup of the print server I assigned it a static IP (192.168.1.150) address which is outside of the DHCP pool on the Linksys router (pool of DHCP address is 192.168.1.100 - 109).  The issue is that the print when it first starts up is assigned the IP address specified however after about 5-10 minutes...the Linksys router seems to reassign its IP address to something within the DHCP pool.
I cannot seem to figure out where in the setup for the router you set up specific devices with static ip addresses.
Any help or insight into this is greatly appreciated.
    M

With Linksys routers, a fixed (static) LAN IP addresses must be assigned in the device that is using the address. So you need to enter the fixed address in the computer or print server, not in the router.
Also, in the computer or print server, when you set up a static LAN IP address, you would need to set the "Subnet mask" to 255.255.255.0 and the "Default Gateway" to 192.168.1.1 and "DNS server" to 192.168.1.1
It is also important that no two devices on your network be set to the same static LAN IP address.
The Linksys DHCP server does not "give out" an address unless an address is requested.  Therefore I would be suspicious that somehow the print server is requesting an address.   Usually "DHCP automatic" is automatically turned off when you setup your print server with a fixed address, but maybe, somehow, this is not happening in your print server.  If the print server has any kind of "DHCP automatic" setting, make sure it is off.  This could be a setting that you access through buttons on the print server, or through the print server setup software or setup pages.
Also, I assume you are connecting your printer to the print server using a USB cable.  If you are instead using an ethernet cable to connect your printer to the print server, then it is probably your printer that is requesting the address.   In this case, either use a USB cable, or setup the printer itself with an address outside the DHCP server range, such as 192.168.1.151
    Hope this helps.

  • IPad printing to net gear print server

Is there a app available for printing to a net gear WGPS606 print server?

    Rogers-4-
I doubt the iPad's AirPrint system will work through a print server, even if it is serving an AirPrint printer.  There could be a problem communicating Bonjour data between the printer and the iPad.  Contact the server manufacturer for their opinion/advice.
The iPad prints over WiFi.  If there is a WiFi path to the print server, one of the printing Apps like Print n Share may work for you.  You can contact EuroSmartz and ask if their Apps would work, but the only way to be sure may be to try it.
Search the iTunes App Store to see if your printer's manufacturer has a free printing App.  If so, you can give it a try.

  • Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server and HP1006

I have been trying to setup the Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server with my HP1006.  The setup runs fine, finds the printer etc but when it comes to try to print a test page it is "unable to create a print job".  When trying to print from Word etc I get similar message suggesting print test page/turn printer on/reinstall print drivers
I have spent hours with Netgear support who eventually said it MIGHT not be compatible
Before I bin it does anyone have any suggestions?  I read somewhere it might be the USB drivers only work when connected directly to the PC (they're loaded up real time or something?) and to try using a serial driver instead?
Might that work, and if so does anyone know where I might find a suitable driver?
    Thanks
    J

I spent a month chasing my print server last year.   Save yourself a month.  The pad will find and print to airprint enabled printers. Period.  It will not find a network print server.

Hi there, having a spot of bother, lol
I have a pc laptop and 2 mac laptops.
set the print server up with pc laptop, and it works a treat, no problems! thou i did conenct 1printer and its in port 2, but following the instructions on the web i changed everything where necessary and pc lappy works a treat.
    Now the macs.
1stly i installed the printer to work with a usb lead and it works on them both fine.
    Then
I followed the instructions available from http://kbserver.netgear.com/kbwebfiles/N101570.asp
and when i get to select the printer type and model, the one i'm wanting to setup isnt listed, even thou its installed, and when you use the autodetect it comes up with a generic somet or other that doesnt work.
How do i get my printer listed or where do i find the file containing the driver info?
Ive seen a few of these problems crop up, but never the answers,
any help would be greatly apreciated!

Do you have a postscript printer? - otherwise this is going to be a two-step problem.
Driver - Only CUPS drivers can use OS X's built-in network printing protocols. (postscript printers don't need a driver, just a PPD) Of all the non-postscript manufacturers, only Brother is making CUPS drivers available at this time. (Apple included Gimp-Print drivers because they are CUPS drivers - a limited number of printers are supported)
For the others, you need a third-party CUPS driver from these sources:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/
    http://www.printfab.net/
    http:/www.easysw.com/printpro/
Next - print server setup. Since the Windows setup software doesn't work on OS X, we need to find the setup details ourselves. Your print server probably supports a couple of protocols- LPD, maybe IPP, and HP Jetdirect (called TCP/IP raw in most manuals). LPD and IPP require that you enter the print server's queue name in Printer Setup. Find the Queue name in the manual. L1, P1 and lp are common queue names.
    Good luck.

    Hi, G.
Have you enabled AppleTalk in the System Preferences > Network > Show: AirPort > AppleTalk tab?
I'd recommend posting your question on one of the AirPort & AirPort Express Discussions as that's where the experts on third-party wireless routers tend to be found. Try searching that Discussion first as it is very likely someone has already asked about the Linksys device you cited.
I agree with sig that you should provide complete details about your Mac, AirPort card, the printer, and the exact model of the Linksys device.
    Good luck!

I don't think you can trace the printer's log from the Windows print server but you can setup Windows Audit Policy to see who printed the document when.
You can also check on the printer's log on the printer's web interface ( most of the network printer have this feature) to see the complete logs.

  • Laserjet 5P to wireless print server

I have Laserjet 5P. I want to connect to this wirelessly from my new HP laptop. Wireless print server (e.g. Netgear WGPS606) has only USB or ethernet sockets. Is it possible to connect 5P via an adaptor? Or is parallel port connection incompatible? I don't mind if print speed is reduced, just so long as I can make the connection. Please help.

I too had this problem. I'm posting this because the technique described didn't work for me. This may help someone else. I could login to the print server's admin page through Safari using its IP address. However, I could not get a straight answer from Linksys "we don't get trained on Mac" on how to make it print. Here is what I did:
Problem: difficulty printing from an iMac (wireless Airport) to a USB printer connected to a Linksys WPS54G v2.0 print server:
Under the Apple Menu, go to System Preferences>Print & Fax
Click + to add a new printer
Select IP from the top list of printer types
Under Protocol select Internet Printing Protocol - IPP
Under Address type in the IP address of the print server (e.g. 192.168.1.12)
    Under Queue - leave blank
Under name - type in IP address of the print server (if not already filled in)
    Under Location - leave blank
Under Print Using - select "select a driver to use" and choose the make and model of the printer connected to the print server.
    Click Add
The printer should now be visible in the Print & Fax dialog box on the left hand side. Now test it by opening an application like TextEdit, type something and hit print. If the pages come out with little text or blank, you've got the wrong driver.
This worked for me, however I still don't have the functionality I had with printing from my PC based laptop (i.e. duplex, draft, normal, best, etc, B&w only). I'll probably find a way to do this later. For now I can at least be productive at work again.
    Cheers,

  • CM1015 on wireless print server; ToolboxFX Can't access

(This is crossposted at the Business Support forum as well).
I have the CM1015 connected via a Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server. Using the Netgear installation util, the IP connection and printing to it work fine. Success there.
However, ToolboxFX can't access the printer, taking a v-e-r-y- long time to respond before throwing an error msg: The server could not find the request. (404) ...Please cycle power bla bla... Of course cycling power doesn't help.
    The topic at
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=115&prodSeriesId=1846080&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=1846080&objectID=c00785211
seems almost relevant, but not really, as the only IP I have is for the print server, not the CM1015 itself. Needless to say, scan-to-remote computer does not work. Disabling the OS firewall does not solve the problem.
Anybody run across a solution for what should be a common problem?
The drift from other frustrated users here seems to be that using a CM1017 connected to a wireless router might get you there. But, like other midrange printers (eg certain Canons), the CM1015 was never really meant to be networked. HP seem mute on the subject...

I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet Website
    now has the same name.
This ends up with a split-DNS stup for internal and external resolution which requires extra administration tasks and attention from the administrators.
When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view
this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
I should also mention, the website is hosted by an ISP and not locally.
I added a "www" Host record in the Forward Lookup Zone, I have added the url and ip address to the Hosts file on a client pc (Windows 7) and even tried setting up Split-Brains DNS. Nothing seems to work.
Running a Tracert takes me to the correct public ip address of the website, but I keep getting this 403 error.
This means that you are able to reach the Website but it is responding with the access denied error message. That should be checked on the middleware level so if this is IIS running then I would recommend asking them in IIS forum: http://forums.iis.net/
If this is a Website that is completely managed by your ISP then I would recommend checking with them.

  • Wireless Print Server Compatibility

I have a Netgear WGPS606 wireless print server and I was wondering if anyone knows if I can connect to it with OS X. Netgears site didn't say anything about it. Anyone know?

I had the same problem with my Netgear Print Server and there is no help directly on the Netgear website. However, a search on Google revealed the following link from one of the Netgear forums:
    http://kbserver.netgear.com/kbwebfiles/N101570.asp
After following all the instructions I still wasn't able to get it to work until I did the following:
    1. I use Netgear's WNR854T wireless router (RangeMax) and it doesn't seem to recognize the default IP (192.168.0.102) of the Print Server (PS). In my case, I had to change the PS's IP address so that it fell within the range set on my router; in my case it was 192.168.1.102.
    2. Next you need to set the new IP address for the PS as a static address in your wireless router. Do not rely on the router's DHCP settings (if you have your router set-up this way) to properly route the printing information.
Check to make sure your Mac can now ping the PS with its new IP address. The terminal screen will show the PS continually being pinged, so once it successfully transmits its few bytes of data you can close the terminal.
    3. Now follow the directions as stated in Netgear's document noting the change in the PS's new IP address. Make sure you don't input the IP address stated in the document as it was your old default address.
You should now be able to print documents.

  • Wireless Printing with Netgear Print Server and HP Officejet 6110

Setting up my wife's iMac for wireless printing (Mac is in Kitchen, printer in home office).
We have a Netgear router and her internet connection (wireless) is fine.
I configured the WGPS606 via a Vista laptop and have effectively printed through to the server wirelessly from the laptop.
I downloaded and installed the drivers for the HP printer to the mac and have successfully printed when connected via USB (brought the printer to the kitchen to test)
In adding the IP printer, I am able to set up an IP printer fine, but the HP driver does not appear in the dropdown menu.
I have been able to get the iMac to ping the Print Server and choosing another HP driver does spool, but with gibberish of course.
I believe the problem is that I can't figure out how to get the new driver to appear in the dropdown in the printer settings, which should solve the problem, I think.
    Advice?
    Thank you.

Unfortunately, there are two kinds of driver on OS X (not like Windows), Carbon and CUPS. To use the CUPS standard network protocols like IP printing, you have to use CUPS drivers. HP doesn't provide CUPS drivers (yet). Install the hpijs 3-part set:

  • CP1217 vs. Network Print Server

    Hi,
I'm trying (and failing) to get my CP1217 (colour lasjet) working with my network print server (Netgear WGPS606).
The CP1217 works fine connected directly (USB) to the computer, and the WGPS606 works fine (otherwise I wouldn't be typing this - and it worked fine with my previous (HP) printer).
When the CP1217 is hooked up to the WGPS606 (and after the printer/software setup is done so that the printer is setup on the IP printer port), the HP print monitor (prnstatusmx.exe) reports that it isn't connected, and nothing prints.  The WGPS606 status/diagnostics however report that it is connected (although it is clearly true that the printer is no longer locally connected.)
I  have three questions - all help appreciated:
Has anyone got the CP1217 (or a printer from the same series) working with a WGPS606?  (If so, how?)
Is the CP1217 compatible with a network print server (apart from the HP wireless kit thing which wouldn't do what I need)?
Does the print monitor (prnstatusmx.exe) only "see" locally connected printers, regardless of what port settings are set for the printer?
    Thanks in advance...

I've been using a CP1217 with a Sitecom LN308 print server (which is cabled to my switch) since late March and it's fine, so the answer to your question whether it works with anything other than the HP print server is a resounding 'Yes'. Initially I just installed drivers as I was in the middle of an Open University assignment and wanted to print a.s.a.p (my poor old DJ840C was struggling). Today I decided to install the Toolbox so I can monitor the toner levels etc, as I'm about to start another block in my OU course and have lots of course text to print.  That's where the problem started as the Toolbox is seeing the printer via the Sitecom but there's a big cross beside it and I can't access the status monitors etc. I've posted this as I'm hoping someone can tellme if/how this can be made to work.
You don't say if your print server is wired or wireless - if the latter, might this be an issue?
You said you've installed it using IP (I take it you've used a local TCP/IP port with the print server IP no?) - have you tried installing it as a local crown port using \\<print server name>\Printer name? Might be worth a go.
    Good luck.

I have a Netgear Wireless Print Server that works fine with my HP desktop. I have installed the Mac drivers for my Macbook Pro and I can print fine when I am hooked up directly to the Epson printer. But I cannot get the Mac to print through the wireless print server. HELP!

I recently bought HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 m551 dn color laser printer with HP jetdirect 2700w wireless print server ( one day old at this time).
I was able to configure the device and enable/ use eprint services using the embedded server with a wired connection.
However when I attach a the mentioned wireless print server, the "Webservices" tab disappears from the configuration website, the printer reports that the eprint services are not enabled and ofcourse hp eprint or google cloud print do not work. The printer appears offline at eprintcenter. Everything else works fine.
On the product website for the wireless server, it clearly states that this is compatible with eprint services.

  • Resolution - Printing HP LaserJet & Linksys Wireless Print Server WPS54GU2

    Hello Guys:
After trying to figure out for 10 days and calling HP, Applet and Linksys support, i finally am able to print to my printer.
I have iMac running Tiger 10.4.8. I have a HP LaserJet 1012 Printer connected in a USB Port to the Wireless Print Server WPS54GU2. This is what I did to get it working.
    First install the following drivers:
    1) Go to http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/ and download hpijs-foomatic-2.0.2.ppc.dmg and espgs-7.07.1.ppc.dmg file. Install hpijs first and espgs second.
    2) After that Go to Server Preferences, Double click on Print/Fax.
    3) Click on the "+" sign, select Line Printer Daemon - LPD
    4) In the Address field, enter the IP address of your print server.
    5) In the Queue name (This is very important). I used L2 for USB. You can try P1, L1 as well. Not sure how you have connected to the print server. For me L2 worked. I had tried using L1 and P1 and it didn't work for me.
    6) The Name field should automatically be populated.
    7) In the Print Using, select HP and then select "HP LaserJet 1012 Foomatic/hpijs" as the printer or whatever driver you have for your printer.
    8) Click on Add
And now open up text edit or something and you should be able to print.
let me know if there are any questions.

Try Repairing permissions (Disk Utility). Then restart, then add again.
What do you mean by the printer doesn't show up - the driver (print using:)?
You can try the generic HP Photosmart P1100 Gimp-Print driver that comes in OS X.
