What 100MB Network Cards will Solaris 2.5.1 auto-detect

I need a PCI network card that Sow-lrais 2.5.1 will recognize. It must be 100baseT. The ones it enumerates at install time are aincient -- SMC/Western Digital, etc. Any modern cards that will work?
Please help me move on -- I've wasted days digging for old cards and trying them.
Thanks
Daniel

elxl comes from the elxl driver. I am afraid that you probably can't just change this behavior. Why would your vendor do such a thing though? To me that seems incredibly stupid.

  • Network cards for Solaris 8 x86

Which network cards are supported by Solaris 8 x86 ?
    Thank you !
    dorin.

Are you considering any particular cards ?
    I have had good luck with DEC21040 (10baseT) and DEC21140 (100baseT) cards
in Solaris 7 through Solaris 10 on x86.
The same can be said for 3Com 3C905C-TX cards.
Solaris 8x86 will recognize many chipsets natively,
and a number of third party developers have created working driver packages.
Most of their driver packages are free, but a few are not free.
Solaris 9 works with a few more, and Solaris 10 works with yet more adapters.
The Solaris 8x86 HCL list has the native cards.
This other Sun web page can direct you toward 3rd party sites.

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • Installing network card in solaris 7 intel version

    hai,
i installed solaris 7 in a intel platform. but the network card is not getting recoganised. the card is Compex Readlink RL2000 pci card. how i will configure it. please help me.
    shibin

If the card is not recognized, then it's probably unsupported by solaris.
Either you can get a solaris 7 driver from the card's vendor, or you
get a new nic that is support under solaris 7.

    Hi
how can I install my netwoek card on solaris 8 x86
    Thank a lot

In the same way you install any other card. Plug the card in
the slot., and install the appropriate solaris driver for that
network card. May be you want to detail the problem, if this
is not you are looking for.

  • When install printer driver via Bonjour, what information OS/CUPS communicate with printer firmware to auto-detect and find correct PPD to install?

    Hi guys,
We are developing printer driver/firmware for Mac OS X 10.5 and up. Right now we have problem that  printer firmware fail to be auto detected by Mac OS 10.5 during installation via Bonjour. Could anyone teach me how the communication works between OS/CUPS and printer F/W during the installation via Bonjour? What kind information the two sides exchange?
    Any input will be appreciated!

Sorry for the incorrect information. The OS should be Mac OS X 10.4 instead of 10.5

  • Recommend a network card?

    Hi all,
What PCI network card would people recommend that is compatible with OS X? It will be going in a G4 tower running either 10.3 or 10.4 (I haven't checked with the person who this is for yet). Something that will be a quick and easy install. Thanks!

    Hi, Matt.
Well, I was wondering if either that was the case or you just didn't know Macs. If you had stated in your initial post that the Ethernet port was dead, I'd have answered differently. Unfortunately, my powers of clairvoyance are somewhat limited today.
Take a look at the cards in the XLR8YourMac "OS X PCI Ethernet Card Compatibility reports."

  • Network Card Installation problem

    Hi All,
I have HCL LX INIFINITY POWERLITE 6010 G1 laptop which Marvel Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller . I tried lot of time to install the driver of it on Sun Solaris but I am not able to install it. I have done add_drv -i and give device id and vendor id . Still gives error softwares is partially install but not able to connect hardware. This lan driver is installed on Windows and Linux . Can anybody help me to sort out my problem or some pkg to download .
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think your network card is Solaris compatible. A good stable choice is 3C905 by 3Com and Intel eepro100.
    2) I have got a no name brand network card with
Realtek RTL8029 chip. At the begining of the
installation, the hardware detection software does
detect the card and assign resources to it. Later on
during the installation, the program ask me what IP
address to assign to the system, so I enter an IP
address. AS soon as, I click OK. I got a messange
like the IP address can not be assigned to the network
card. Does this mean my network card is not

  • Installation of wireless pci network card

In all the research I have gone through in order to decide what wireless network card I would use, I keep seeing from time to time a reference to which mac operating system version should be in place prior to installation of card. This I found was particularly for NIC(PCI cards) that had 802.11B,G
protocol. There was a caution to use mac osx version 10? is this correct (am I reading this correctly?)or can These NIC(PCI Cards) still run correctly with any version of mac osx?
    apple g4 powermac G4   Mac OS X (10.0.x)

    Are you really using 10.0.X?
I remember having about zero success with networking anything with 10.0.X, ethernet or wireless.
Yeah, I think you'll have variable results depending on which version of OS X you're running.
    Back to subject:
I just bought a Buffalo WCI2-PCI-G54S at BestBuy tonight for $39.99
    I have 10.3.9 on a G4 466Mhz machine.
Put it in a PCI slot, attached the antenna and restarted.
OS X 10.3.9 found it pretty quickly and auto-configured the Network settings for; I was not expecting this and am still really impressed. I wtched my network status indicator as it turned GREEN.
All I had to do was turn-on Airport at the top of my screen and select my Base Station, that was it!
Works great. Not sure if I can print to my Old Trusty Laserwriter since it needs AppleTalk, but we'll see.
By the way; this is a low-profile(half-height) PCI card and using a BroadCom Chip set.
    Good Luck!

  • How to config network card to detect router?

    Hi everyone,
I am newbie to solaris, I installed solaris on my old PC, and it has the Netgear FA311 card. It is supported by Solaris according to HCL.
however, it doesn't seem like it is auto-detecting the router.. as result, there is not internet connection.
So, may I ask for your help ?
1.) how do I know my existing network card is detected and installed probably in Solaris? is it auto detect?
2.) how do I manually config to detect my router?
    Thanks

Are you trying to get an IP using dhcp or static IP.
If your trying to use dhcp then make sure your hostname is in /etc/nodename
and do a "touch /etc/dhcp.<int>" where <int> is the name of the driver for your interface.
If your trying to do static then put the IP of the router in /etc/defaultrouter
    And your hostname in /etc/hostname.<int>
And make sure you have an entry for your hostname in /etc/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes

  • Network Card Configuration

    Hi,
Could anybody tell me the command for configuring network card in Solaris 10. I installed Solaris 10 and my network card does not work any more. Thank you
    OC.

The commands (logged in as root) are:
    ifconfig network_card_name plumb
(Add the network card to the system if it has not been added to the system yet.)
    ifconfig network_card_name ip_addr up
    (Start the network card)
The configuration gets lost after re-booting the system.
To permanently add a network card to the system create the file
    /etc/hostname.network_card_name
    for example:
    /etc/hostname.hme0
This file contains just one line. This line is a host name from /etc/hosts that corresponds to the IP address of the card.
The use of DHCP is a bit more complex:
    Use DHCP once:
    ifconfig network_card_name plumb
    ifconfig network_card_name dhcp up
    Use DHCP after re-boot:
    Create /etc/hostname.network_card_name
    Create /etc/dhcp.network_card_name
    Leave both files empty.

  • Which network cards works with Solaris 8?

    Hi,
I am installing Solaris 8 on a PC but I am having a problem finding a network card that the system will recognise.
I have tried HP and Intel cards but always see the error message "iprb: iline value out of range: 255"
Is there a particular brand/model of card that I should get?
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • I believe iMac is freezing because of interference between my Wifi/router combo unit and my Network Card.  What should I do?

My mid-2010 iMac (Snow Leopard) has been freezing with a spinning wheel within 10 minutes of startup for about a week.  I can only force it to shut down by holding the power button - nothing else functions at that point.
I've been to the Genius Bar 3 times, with no findings.  They did an overnight diagnostic, and found nothing wrong.  They reinstalled Mac OS X, and before I even restored, it was still misbehaving.  I can't recreate it at the Apple Store, but it does it without fail at home.  At length, I believe I've narrowed it down to the Wifi/router combo unit and the iMac network card.  When I turn off the router (entirely or just "turn off" the wifi), it oeprates normally.  If I turn off the ethernet (BOTH en 0 and en 1 - if either of them is on, I have problems), it operates normally.  If I have them both on, it will freeze.  What on earth?
It doesn't matter whether the iMac is actually CONNECTED by wifi or ethernet.  Merely having them both TURNED ON is enough to cause the freezing.  Has anyone heard of this?  I can't seem to find anything on it.  My only recourse seems to be asking my DSL provider for a new router and seeing if that helps.
    Any other suggestions?  Thanks!

I can't recreate it at the Apple Store, but it does it without fail at home.
That's because when troubleshooting no devices should be connected except for the keyboard.
You seem to have narrowed it down to your router.  Suggest that you call the router manufacturer to find out what the problem is.  If the router came from your ISP, call their tech support dept.

  • What API i can see network card driver name

    Dear all
in java i/o evirnment what API I can use to call current machine network card driver name?

Well the first step for you is to look through your Windows documentation to see what the library call is to get the information you want. Can you find that and post what you find, and post the full signature of that library call (ie, arguments and return type)?
In other words, here's what you should do: Write a simple C program that gets just the information you are looking for. How that works is outside the scope of JNI, so it's outside the scope of this forum, but once you get that working, post some info about it and I'll explain how to get that linked in with JNI. The good news is, it's easy to do.
