What about current Security updaters with 10.4.9?

I am presently staying with 10.4.9 because I had SO MUCH TROUBLE trying to update to 10.4.10 that I'm not ready to ruin my life trying to get ti there again. But, there is a new Security update showing in my Software Update app and I'm wondering should I go there or will it bite me?
How far do we go with updates for such other apps as QT and iTunes?

Get a bootable, external FireWire HD, and make a bootable backup/clone before updating. That allows you to revert to the previous good state without having to reinstall everything. Then, peruse these
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106941
http://www.macmaps.com/upgradefaq.html
http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/installswupdates.html
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/backuprecovery.html
and adopt the necessary habits to mitigate what happened to you when you tried to update to 10.4.10..
BTW, which security update? I have the latest of everything Apple's put out the past month or so.

  • What about mac security! anything a beginner should know?

what i trying to say is that where can i find more info on osx security and latest threats and stuff?
    thanks alot for any help

    Read this:
Do You Need Anti-Virus Protection for Your Mac?
According to Rich Mogull's article, Should Mac Users Run Antivirus Software?,
"The reality is that today the Mac platform is relatively safe. There are hundreds of thousands of viruses and other malicious software programs floating around for Windows, but less than 200 are known to target the Mac, and many of those are aimed at versions of the Mac OS prior to Mac OS X (and thus have no effect on a modern Mac).
It's not that Mac OS X is inherently more secure against viruses than current versions of Windows (although it was clearly more secure than Windows prior to XP SP2); the numerous vulnerabilities reported and patched in recent years are just as exploitable as their Windows equivalents. But most security experts agree that malicious software these days is driven by financial incentives, and it's far more profitable to target the most dominant platform."
Mr. Mogull is a computer security expert. I recommend reading the entire article as it is quite informative.
For additional information on viruses, trojans, and spyware visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on viruses and spyware.
As for firewalls if you are behind a hardware router in your home there should be no need for a firewall unless you open your machine to the world via web sharing, ftp access, etc. The OS X firewall is pretty configurable, but if you want more you can find it at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Previous month is easy, what about most recent date WITH data?

As the topic suggests, I've seen many posts with the following solution for returning the last date of the previous month: TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_DAY,DAYOFMONTH(CURRENT_DATE) * -1 , TIMESTAMPADD(SQL_TSI_MONTH, 1, CURRENT_DATE)).
However, for at least the first few days of the current month, no data will be available for the previous month. How can I tell OBIEE to return the date for the most recent month where data exists?
Another part of this puzzle, is that this request needs to play nicely with query rewrite in the view. the TIMESTAMPADD doesn't seem to use query rewrite well. Any suggestions?

Another part of this puzzle, is that this request needs to play nicely with query rewrite in the view. the TIMESTAMPADD doesn't seem to use query rewrite well. Any suggestions? For what you presented, the answer is simple. However, I suspect that your need is not as simple as you described. You describe your scenario as "there are no data for the previous month for the first few days of the current month." There are two inherent assumptions which if true, makes the problem not that difficult:
    1) Only the first few days of the current month, there are no data for the previous month (i.e., for the rest of the month, the data are there.)
    2) Data exists for every month.
With these two assumptions, here is how you build your dashboard.
    1) Create a simple report with the key data fields run with the filter for "current month."
For the "first few days" of the current month, this report will yield no records. (It doesn't matter how many days "a few days" is as you will see.) For the "rest of the month," this small report will always yield at least one record.
    2) Create your main report (call this Report A) that has a filter for "previous month."
    3) Place Report A on your dashboard in a Section.
    4) Click on the Properties of the Section and select "Guided Navigation" and have it point to the small report you built in step 1) that will display the section "if the request returns rows."
    5) Build another report (call this Report B) that has a filter for "two months ago."
    6) Place Report B in a separate Section on your dashboard, below the Section in step 3).
    7) Click on the Properties of this Section and again select "Guided Navigation," have it point to the small report from step 1), but this time have it display "if the request returns no rows."
So here's what happens. For the first few days of "this month," the small report will return no rows. The top Section will not display, but the bottom one will, which has as its filter "two months ago." The assumption is that by the end of each month, there will always be data. This therefore meets your criteria of displaying "the most recent month where data exists." Once data for "this month" is available, the top Section will display with the current month's filter. The bottom section will not appear until the "first few days" of the next month.
    That's how you do it.

Anyone who spends any time here knows who you are. As do I. I wasted 15 bucks on your video.
You can't go thru very many threads here without seeing a post from you.
I'm not a photographer by trade, so I come here for insight into LR and help from those who are supposed to be in the know - NOT ABUSE!.
Further, 95% of this forum is PISSING AND MOANING. I haven't posted since April because I haven't seen anything worth posting about till last nights train wreck with the mistaken 1.1 release. If LR were actually useful to me at this point I'd post useful content and I sure wouldn't insult people in the process.
A look at posts from YOUR profile backs up my point. There's always a little snip, insult or put down with almost every post. YOU would be hard pressed to find one where there wasn't some sort of quip at another poster.

  • HT5228 What about a security fix for Java under Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5?

Apple recognized and offered a fix for the Flashback trojan here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5228?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
But it is only for OS 10.7 and 10.6.  Presumably, users of 10.5 and 10.4 are still vulnerable.  Because Apple insisted on providing Java support, rather than Oracle, the fix that was released in February doesn't work unless Apple were to make it work.
If Apple is unwilling to support Java for 10.5 and 10.4, they need to hand over whatever documentation Oracle would need so they can keep the Java environment (and security) up to date.  10.5 and 10.4 are still viable OSes and to not patch obvious security flaws in one way or another is irresponsible, at best.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ - Apple products feedback links
I wouldn't expect anything to come of it.
I have disabled Java on my browsers.  It isn't really neded all that often.

  • What about Homeland Security warning about Java?

How does one disable Java from Oracle, and what will that do to operation of the Mac?

You turn off the Java plugin in the web browsers. See:
    https://krebsonsecurity.com/how-to-unplug-java-from-the-browser/
Operating of the Mac itself will not be affected at all. The only consequence will be an inability to use any web site that requires Java to function unless you re-enable it.

  • HT3946 What about RAW file compatibility with Nikon D4?

Having trouble with RAW files from Nikon D4, didnt have issues before update, any help?

My apologies for the vague question.  To be more specific after installing the latest update to Aperture, RAW files from my D4 after being transfered into Aperture cannot be opened.  Message saying Aperture does not support these files.  Not sure if it has anything to do with XQD card, all formatted as usual.  Stumped.
thank you kindly for your time.

  • What about numbers that start with Zero

When I enter numbers that start with Zero (EX: 08794) in a cell, Numbers automatically drops the zero. I WANT THE ZERO. How can I do that. I've tried changing the formula to numerals and automatic. Same thing.

Numbers starting with zeros are usually "labels" rather than "numbers" used in further calculations. If that's the case with yours, the easiest solution is to set the format of the cells where the 'numbers' will be inserted to Text.
An alternate, useful only if all of the 'numbers' are the same length (eg. five digit zip codes) is to set a Custom format for the cell(s).
Use the Cell Format Inspector ("42" button in the Inspector) to apply either of these settings.

    Barry

Now U must unistall everthing from creative I mean everything use for it driver sweeper & driver cleaner.Net in safe mode when U will be sure that no creative drivers soft ect. remember to delete creative folder as well from programdata also and from install info to.
Remove your card from PC boot your bios load default settings go to windows and run the cleaners just to be sure if nothing have showed up, off your PC, install card again boot PC up make sure you don't let Windows to install it as HD audio device thats sometimes happen or don't let windows to install anything if Windows will atempt something U will get proper info just chose no don't install now. Install driver 2.8.0004, after reboot install consoles staff reboot and then install from CD things like THX console etc. you should be good

  • What about sites NOT created with Dreamweaver templates

I am using Dreamweaver CS3 (no templates), and code most everything by hand (html, javascript and CSS). Would it work to have people in my office adding content to these existing sites with Contribute CS5 since there are NO Dreamweaver templates in place?

Html webpages are editable in Contribute.

  • What about security in adf faces application ?

It seem that the documentation has a little bit changed about security for adf faces application.
SRDemo J2EE sample application only implemented the security at the web container and may be for the session beans (don't remember) by using security-role and security-constraint in web.xml configuration file.
It seem that the documentation recommand now to implement adf security and didn't find anymore the reference to the standard j2ee security implementation.
We found also that the security constraints checked by the web container was sometimes ignored and the container didn't ask us to login before displaying a page.
Is ADF security a clear Oracle recommandation for ADF Faces application ?
What about j2ee security for this type of application (why it is not recommended to use it) ?

    Hi,
there is no single recommedation about security because security ideally is applied on several levels to implement security in depth. Container managed security with J2EE is a good option to secure page access and - if using EJB - to propagate the user identity for method level access control.
Using ADF Security, which is security added to the binding layer based on JAAS, a second layer of the security onion becomes available that allows you to define which user is allowed to perform which operation on an iterator or attribute binding. This goes beyond of what container managed security can do for you.
The thrid layer is business layer security and eventually database security.
For Oracle Open World we will have a developmengt track and one of the presentation I am giving with Ric Smith from our team is about end-to-end application security for ADF Faces, ADF, ADF BCor TopLink/EJB and the Oracle database.
The plan is to also write this up in a paper, but this would come late because of other priorities I have on my plate. So attending OOW probably is the best option for you to get the big picture

Hi. Dear users. What about Web Browsers for Mac and IPhone 4S devices?
Test Labs: THG and something else.

I have an iMac purchased new about 5 years ago with OS 10.4.11. I would like to upgrade to Lion. I currently have a 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of ram. Can I upgrade to Lion, and what is the best way to do so?

    From what I read here:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2011/06/06/lion-...u-2-gb-of-ram/
s long as they already have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed in it.All a person needs to do with that type of iMac is to upgrade/max out their Ram. They claim that an Interl iMac with Core 2 Duo is all that is needed, as long as it has OS 10.6.8 installed. They say you don`t need  the "Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor"
But I wonder about the RAM speed, the iMac 2.33Ghz uses DDR2 SDRAM,  which I believe is rated at 667Mhz. Lion maybe installed but it might be problems running smoothly or not?
Did some quick checking and the iMacs apple is selling this year use 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM.
The only thing to do is to make sure you have a good back-up, Install your RAM and install Snow Leo, then wait a couple of hours and install Lion.
    Good Luck
