What about interlacing when using Flip video in a DV sequence?

Hi, I want to include 720p 30fps Flip camera shots in a 50i 25fps DV PAL sequence that needs to remain interlaced for broadcast. I've seen info how to convert Flip for use in FCP7 but what are the interlacing issues - if any - when I'm combining Flip and DV shots in a timeline when I come to export a quicktime file?

The only real issue is how you're going to match the aspect ratio of the downscaled 720p material with that of the PAL. Letterbox the PAL, crop the 720p?
The conversion is easy enough in compressor with Frame Controls on. Just set the Output Fields to match those of the PAL, Better or Best Deinterlace quality.
Change the frame rate in the encoder panel, and the resolution in the Geometry Panel. Back in Frame Controls, set the Resize filter to Best.
All of this should be done with a ProRes LT setting on the clips.
In FCP, be sure your Sequence Settings match your clips.
You can also convert the PAL material to ProRes, or just let it render to that when exporting the sequence to Quicktime.

  • What is better when converting analog video for FCE, Canopus100/110/300/or5

    All,
What is better when converting analog video for FCE, Canopus100/110/300/or500? I have a new MACPRO with FCE HD and I wanted to convert some of my older video that was recorded on a HI8 Camcorder... Thanks.

I have the ADVC-100 (older model) and ADVC-110. They are identical except that the ADVC-110 does not come with an AC power adapter. Currently sells for about $220USD. If all you need to do is convert from HI8 tapes, the ADVC100/110 will do the job quite nicely.
The ADVC300 adds some enhancements for video signal cleanup, but at a higher price. Currently sells for about $450USD. The ADVC500 is overkill for home use.

What is required to use the video composite out on the iPhone 4   The left and right audio works ok

Please not that the iPhone uses mono channel for internal speakers, the other path that you see is not the speaker per say. It is the phone microphone. Try using headphones, you will hear both channels. If the problem still persists when using headphones, check your sound balancing in the settings. Go to setting-general-accessibility scroll down and check the slide under mono audio. It should be put at the centre for you to hear both channels ON YOUR HEADPHONES

  • 2012 macbook pro retina display artifacts on screen when using onboard video

2012 Macbook Pro Retina Display artifacts on screen when using onboard video.
About a month ago I've noticed these strange artifacts (blocky pixelated looking) running vertically down the screen. It first started when using Safari. Then it started to happen all the time. I turned off the auto switch video in preferences, which I'm assuming forces the computer to use the separate video card and the artifacts go away.
On top of that issue I also have had the ghosting issue.
    Anyone else have this problem?

artifacts onscreen could mean a faulty gpu. You said by forcing it on inbuilt gpu you do not find this issue highlights that. Do take it in to apple for service and also tell them of your ghosting issue.
There are a few retina owners who have faulty gpus.

  • Want to hear about vCAC when used with Cisco UCS Director... How are you seeing this done?

I have a client that has both VMware vCloud Automation Center, and Cisco UCS Director.
They wish to constuct a net-new (Greenfield) data center and are hearing from both VMware and Cisco.
I have researched, and found little regarding the merger of the two.
I realize that very likely vCAC is teh "main" management platform, while Cisco UCSD will handle the more "physical hardware" tasks.
REST API's will be leveraged as well.
What have you seen written and done in this space when using BOTH?
Please send me any thoughts or links to relevant data.
I am having a hard time locating good data so that I an advise the client in a good way.

    Bahi,
just to illustrate what mess this is, I tested for you on Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) using the same wide gamut monitor. Here are two screenshots from that experiment. I converted the screenshots from my display profile to sRGB to show you what I see and scaled down 50% (this is a 30" behemoth). First Leopard.
You see they are all the same, but different from the sRGB export you provided. The GB sticker is too blue and the tint on the car is wrong. I doubt anybody but a photographer would notice though.
    Next is Snow Leopard:
Here the 320 pixel, the 480 pixel and the 960 pixel image are different from the 720 pixel, the 720p and the 1080p ones. Neither is strictly correct as they are all different from the sRGB display. This is consistent with their being no real color management, just gamma corrections and color space transforms (video is usually not stored as RGB but as YUV, necessitating a transform for display). Annoying, but not much you can do about it.
Just doing some quick googling I came across many mentions of issues such as this. It clearly is just a big mess.

  • IMac G5 iSight - Resolution problems when using s-video output.

    Good afternoon all.
I have an iMac G5 and the only video output it has is a mini VGA socket. I have used this with a mini VGA to S-Video converter cable from Apple and am getting some odd results.
The Mac is running Leopard 1.5.7 and I'm outputting to a fairly old Panasonic CRT TV.
The problem I find is that when I plug in my mini VGA adaptor to the Mac it reduces the resolution on the Mac screen down to 1024x768 (stretched). The TV outputted TV image looks great, but I can't seem to keep my native resolution of 1440x900 on the Mac display.
If I do go and change the resolution in "displays" in the sys' prefs' then it just seems to keep the 1024x768 resolution on the Mac but this time without stretching it.
Does anyone know how I can keep my Mac at its native resolution of 1440x900 while still outputting to s-video to the TV?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you again in advance.
    Stuart

    Hi
I have the same config as you: I have been using it for years to view on my tv dvds or videos from the web.
To my knowledge there is no way to acheive what you wish: when you plug the adaptor in the mac adjust to your output source and its main display (the g5 display) will reflect that with the result that it becomes very difficult to use.
Maybe there is a way to try changing the resolution in a middlle"configuration" which would give an acceptable viewing on the tv as well as on the g5.
Personally I keep plugging and unplugging the adaptor as needed.

  • AC Power stops when using s-video output

This only happens when using the s-video output. It usually takes about an hour before the ac power adapter stops working then the powerbook switches to battery power.
For all other times when not using the video output, it would work normally [ i could leave the ac power plugged in for weeks without this problem occuring ].
Is there a way to fix this when using the s-video output.
    Powerbook G4 1.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

If you know someone with another 65W power adapter I would try using it to see if it does the same thing. If it doesn't then you know to buy a new power adapter.

  • What setting for .MP4 using Magic Video Converter?...

What setting do you use for best video when converting video files to .MP4 using Magic Video Converter?? To play on Nokia N95 8gb.
After you have chose to convert to MP4, you can chose a load of diffrent "setting/format" for the MP4 file. But what would be best?

    Here we go again.
    Best for what?
Video quality, smallest size, TV-out, etc.
The best for TV-out is not the same than the best for watching in phone.
If you want the best size to quality compromise then a different setting may be better.
For example best quality to size compromise would be something like:
    Container : MP4
    Res: 320x240
Codec: Mpeg4 AVC h264 Baseline profile
    Bitrate: 256 kbps
    Framerate: as per source
    Audio: AAC 44100 Hz @ 64 kbps

  • Using Flip Video Power Adaptor to charge an iPod Touch

Is it possible to use a Flip Video Power Adaptor to charge my iPod Touch without damaging it?
The Flip Adaptor says: Output +5VDC 1A (5W)
    Thanks

With this sort of thing you have a choice. You can take your chances with the cheap option, or possibly pay more than is necessary, but have what is pretty much a sure thing.
If we were talking maybe a $100 or less MP3 player, I'd say go with the cheap option because the worst that happens is you have to buy a new MP3 player for around $100. Annoying, but generally doable.
With expensive electronics, I'd suggest the sure thing. If you go cheap, and it fries the logic board on the MBP, then you're looking at like $1200 minimum. Probably around $200+ for the iPod, and around $500 for the iPhone. If Apple's gear ends up frying the various devices, Apple would be pretty much obliged to replace them. You buy some third party stuff, they'll just say the fault must have been with the third party adapters, and that you're SOL unless you cough up the cash for a repair/replacement.
So, at the end of the day, is it worth risking around $2,000 worth of equipment just to save a few bucks on a travel adapter? Only you can answer that.

  • Blank Video to .Mac using Flip Video AVI

Imported video clips from my flip video camera just fine. Manipulated the clips in iMovie. But when I published it to .mac all you can see are the transitions and opening text. You can can the song I put in the background and I think you can hear the sound from the video, but no video images can be seen. Any ideas?

Video content that imports to iMovie '08/edits in a normal fashion but exports as a "screen" is normally in the Apple Animation (or Apple Video) compression format. Check the QT Player "Inspector" window with the clip loaded to determine the actual format in your case. The is a well known "bug" that has been present since iMovie '08 was initially released. The solution to the problem is to convert the video to one of the fully compatible compression formats -- e.g., DV, AIC, M_JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG-4, or H.264.
How can I export to show at a conference from a PC?
By ensuring your source file is in an iMovie '08 fully compatible compression format.
    Can support post a reply?
These forums are, for the most part, just user-to-user. Apple does not officially monitor or make responses here.

  • What's disadvantages when using bind variables always in java?

Hello everyone .. Could someone tell me what's the disadvantage when using bind variable in java ? I heard it somecases since before.. Thanks in advance!

99% of the time, you should be using bind variables. If you have columns which are highly skewed, however, you may want to consider using literals (assuming CURSOR_SHARING=EXACT), since that may allow the CBO to make a better decision.
If you have an orders table, for example, you may have a status column that specifies whether the order is complete, in transit, or new. If you've been running for a while, 99% of your orders will be complete, so
    SELECT COUNT(*)
      FROM orders
WHERE status = :1should do a full table scan if you specify 'COMPLETE'. If you passed in 'IN TRANSIT', though, an index scan might be more appropriate. If you want to pass in different values and get different query plans, you need to use literals. 99% of the time, though, you want the same plan, so you want to use bind variables.

  • Why is the video so dark when using 'Hello' video calls?

    HI,
I have used 'Hello' on 4 computers this week to trial it. For each of them the video is very dark. When I open AnyMeeting on the same computers the video output is might lighter. Can anyone tell me why this is and/or how to change the Hello settings?

    Hello Laine,
Please try refreshing your Mozilla Firefox using its refresh feature.
The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]] article for more information.
    To Refresh Firefox:
    # Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
#Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

  • Firefox crashes when using Flash video (and Chrome does too); having uninstalled Flash, it won't reinstall

Going to youtube crashes my browser; going to youtube with noscript on, and allowing the videos, does the same - as does using google talk's built-in video chat. I assumed something was wrong with Flash, but checking via about:crashes gives me nothing. I downloaded the flash uninstaller from adobe's website but now, when I try to get flash again, the program crashes. Maybe something's wrong with my PC, not with Firefox...but I simply have no idea.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== this morning I started up my computer after a supposed crash (although I suspect it was the Vista automatic updater/restarter cropping up while I was asleep). Skype's exe was corrupted and I had to reinstall; then FF wouldn't work with flash.

As it turns out, Skype also crashes if I try to use video - so I'm forced to confront the possibility that the problem is actually with my PC, or the updates windows has just installed.
